hello everyone I have a problem with my g2 when i try to use usb tehering with my computer I have a problem with the ( device drive not install on this computer ) I try more than one computer but it cam up the sam error message ? and I have window 7 on both of the computer, any solution I can do ? thx
What app are you using to tether and have you installed the drivers.

I have update with the manual update. the wifi hotspot work except the usb tether, it keep said the device not install, do I have to install some app on my coputer, thx for the reply
I have searched all over the place for a solution to this and haven't found a solution. Everything I find says Windows 7 has a generic RNDIS driver preinstalled, but it doesn't seem to be the case on my install.

I used the drivers that came with PDANet Desktop application

I found a solution. Download the HTC Sync software from the link on this page: http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/wiki/FAQ
Then when you connect your G2 and turn USB tethering on, search for drivers and locate the HTC Sync directory. It should then find the driver and install it.
Now, for a little twist probably related to the tethering plan, I notice this entry in logcat after turning off USB tethering and making sure my adb connection still works:
Code:
D/DataConnectionTracker( 1431): disableApnType(hipri)
I don't know if this DataConnectionTracker was around before, but I've never seen it. This might have something to do with how T-Mobile plans to know if we're tethering.
Edit: DataConnectionTracker triggers when using both USB and wifi tethering provided by the OTA, but not when using the Wireless Tether for Root application.

I plugged my incredible into my windows 7 x64 laptop and set it to run as mobile broadband connect and my computer found and installed all the drivers except HTC DIAG and HTC modem, does anybody know if there are just no drivers available for it yet or is there a specific sit to download them from. the old HTC usb modem drivers arent working that I had from all my other HTC phones. easy tether works but I just want to plug it in and hit connect.
Go to vzam.net to download the Verizon Access Manager for the mobile broadband. I iinstalled and successfully connected but, I need to change my plan around to unlock the mobile broadband. If you try to go anywhere in a web browser once you're connected you'll be taken to a Verizon page stating that your plan needs the mobile broadband option.
You can also snag the HTC Sync software for the Eris on HTC website. Drivers there work fine for the incredible.
I plugged by 8GB Micro SD card into the incredible and it loaded HTCSYNC on the card. When plugged in I selected Hard Drive instead of Sync and opened up the Drive to the SD and the software was there. I installed it and the drivers all worked.
Waste of money. They want an additional $25/mo on-top of the $30/mo you already need to pay.
Verizon = Profiteering Gluttons
Yeah Pdanet right now till others root this bad boy
and then back to wired/wireless tether again
HTC DIAG Drivers
I looked a lot at many places for the HTC DIAG drivers. Finally found them. Thanks to those who uploaded them originally.

Hope this helps!!!

Unless you're paying for their service, which is crazy, just use EasyTether if unrooted. If you are rooted then use WiFi tether.
Both incur no monthly charge.
hi all, this topic drew me into the boards.
i am looking for a modem driver for my eris, win7 64bit. anybody know where i can find one? i do have the My HTC driver showing up in the AndroidUSB Devices category, but i need to pull the device through a modem slot, so i can connect a com port to be specific.
note, i tried in install the vista64 driver above, but i didnt get far. the nearest i got was to right click on the computer in the top of the device list, and add legacy hardware, go to have disk, select the driver, but nothing showed up in the list. i can try to install it with the command prompt rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:\Temp_Folder_Path\driverXXX.inf, assuming it will work for this type of driver, but i wanted to consult here first to see if i can find the proper driver, and a recommened method.
link no good
Heres a good link to all the drivers for ADB, HTC Modem, HTC Diag, and Qualcom Diag. http://dinc.does-it.net/Drivers/ADB_Modem_HTC-Diag_Qualcom-Diag_DRIVERS.zip
So i tried to do some USB tethering today.. and it would not work.. because I am running windows xp on my laptop....
with the OTA it states i need to run Vista, or higher..
anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks
It runs on XP just fine. Make sure you downloaded the CORRECT pc app, there are flavors for all the operating systems. I have XP running and it works fine on my system. There is a wireless app that also works with the G2 now and if all else fails you could do that, too...
Good Luck!
make sure you have HTC sync on your comp and it will work np
HTC sync.. just download it from HTC site?
should be nice and easy..
yep just install it and restart
plug the phone in and on the phone turn on usb tether
Is there a specific one for the g2.. or does any touch sync work for it?
yea there is hold on
err. if i find it ill post the link
try this

G2 tethering
You got the OTA update that enables wifi calling and usb/wireless tethering, right?
On your G2 Go to Settings, Wireless & networks, Tethering & portable hotspots, Help.
Under this help guide, go to the website link for USB listed there.
Go to this website and choose "USB Tethering with Windows XP"
Download the INF file "tetherxp.inf"
On your G2 check the "USB tethering" option, and connect your G2 via USB cable to your computer. Instead of using windows to automatically seach for drivers, direct the wizard to the "tetherxp.inf" file.
This will also work for Windows 7 if your having problems tethering there.
Thanks, this worked like a charm. Hopefully it's better than PDANet, which seems to slow down my phone like crazy (whenever I run it Launcher Pro becomes unresponsive at times).
I'm having problems with USB tether. I've kept up with the CM7 nightly's and so far none work with me when it comes down to USB tether.
I think I'm missing the drivers on my computer.
I'm running windows 7, from what I've researched, windows 7 should install the drivers automatically. When USB tether is activated on my inc, my device manager shows the driver as RNDIS. I've tried downloading countless driver updates but to no success.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the drivers needed for USB tether are different from the regular USB drivers needed to use your phone as a drive on your computer right?
Some people have had the same problem but no solution has worked for me.
HELP PLEASE!!

+1 I have the same issues with USB Tether in CM7 Nightlies. Im thinking its the new kernel?? But it will NOT recognize any driver that b4 worked for the RNIS Adapter it finds to connect. It fails to install and stays with a yellow error logo Im using PdaNet and/or easytether in the meantime.

Yeah PDANet works fine. I think it may have something to do with the kernel. Hopefully they get a fix for this.
Na its something with windows 7 XP installs the drivers just fine. Pdanet always cuts out for me after awhile.

PDAnet is rock solid for me. CM7 RC1 on DINC. Windows 7 x64 on my PC. I use PDA net for hours at a time with no problems. 14gig data last month on Verizon.
Must be something on your phone or PC if you are having problems with PDAnet.
Hi,
you just need to download Active Sync (by me it was ActiveSync 4.5) and this will automaticly install the generic rndis driver. After installing just connect your phone via USB and activate USB - tethering. (- for XP - Win7 install the driver automaticly)
Ibwished activesync worked for windows 7

Hey all,
I am having a problem sharing my evos internet with my HP pc using W7 via usb connection. I plug phone in and choose usb tethering than a pop up comes up asking to install drivers. I try but than it asks for the cd that came with the phone (which I dont have). I tried to search for the drivers online but it doesn't work. It won't let me connect to the web. We tried it on my friends pc using my phone and it worked fine even though the same pop up showed up on hers. Chose option to ask me later and it connected to the web right away! Any ideas? Btw my evo is rooted ruining myn's rls5.
Try installing HTC Sync on your computer . . once installed, you can remove the HTC Sync program itself, leaving behind the drivers and driver install program . . . see if that fixes it for you . . .
I'm pretty sure I already had HTC sync installed but but I will check after work today......

Just went thru this 2 days ago trying to setup my laptop.
1.Plug your phone in and turn on USB Tethering
2.Then right click on my computer then manage and see what drivers it is looking for
3.See if it is looking for Remote NDIS Internet Sharing Drivers
4.Go to this webpage and download these drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445436
5.Unzip and update drivers
Hopefully this works for you. The only problem I have had is on AOSP kernels ending in .8 there are no drivers for RNDIS so USB Tethering is a problem.
Secondly if that does not work then download PDANet its free for 30 days and has all the drivers you need. Also works better than stock USB Tethering
Thanks a lot, will try it out.......

Easiest way I found is to turn on USB debugging, plug in to computer and go into Control panel>device manager and under whatever phone connects as (usually Samsung Android) and choose Update Drivers from Windows Media and leave it connected for the half hour or so to find all the drivers.

Does it make the connection sound? It may be a bad cable.

I also use Windows 7 64-bit. I only installed this package from Samsung's website: hxxp://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=US&CttFileID=3185503&CDCttType=SW&ModelType=C&ModelName=SPH-D700ZKASPR&VPath=SW/201009/20100901010102890/Samsung_Mobile_Driver_V1.3.800_For_SPH-d700_Epic_4G.zip
[replace hxxp with http in the address, the forum won't let me post links]
USB debugging and download mode work for me with these drivers.
