[APP][Q] Facebook 1.4.0 - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so Facebook updated their Android app. When i try to update, installation was unsuccessful.
Having had to deal with this before....i backup'd w/ TB, uninstalled, restarted, and trying to update again. Same issue (installation was unsuccessful). Now, TB won't let me restore my backup for some reason
Has anyone else experienced this yet or know how to fix it??
Worst case, could someone upload the 1.4 .apk for me?
Thanks guys.

Some ROMs will not allow the update...for instance I'm running Ultimate Droid and launcher pro fails for done reason.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App

*Fixed*
I had to uninstall w/ TB and Reboot. Clear cache/data from market (restart) in order to install.
Then had to fix permissions with rom manager in order to run the app.
Seems like quite a hassle...wonder if anyone else is going through troubles

Market told me there was an update available, I went in and did the manual update and it d/l and installed with no problem. See device info below. We finally get to catch up with the iPhone zombies with "Places"....cant say that I missed it too much.

I'm running Uncommon Sense and I can't update to FB 1.4.0 either. It just says installation unsuccessful. If anyone finds a solution please post.

after it fails in the market, go to astro sdcard/download and instal from there. Thats what i do with all the fail installs. Always works.

Ugh I'm on uncommon sense to, no fix yet guys?

If your facebook apk is in the system/app directory, you may need to manually delete the apk (use Root Explorer), reboot, then try installing Facebook from the market.
(This worked for me with Uncommon Sense)

[Q] Installing Issues

I have CM 6.1 Stable - And it has been working great except for the loss of signal that happens rarely. Now I am having issues with either updating or Installing Apps. They will download but every time the Installation Fails? Any ideas on why or how to fix it other than performing a Nandroid restore?
This is actually a common issue. I'm not sure what causes it exactly. The best advice I can give you is get Root Explorer (file manager), after you download something - got to sdcard, then download (that's the folders' name). The files from Market will be listed as download.apk, download-1.apk and so on. Just click on it and install. To attach it to the market (so you can update) use titanium backup and use it to attack the app to the market.
Sometimes if you delete the .apk in the download folder then re-download it and sometimes it will let it install. Sorry this answer probably isn't what you're looking for but it's the best I have, maybe some one else has a fix for this. Will buy a six pack for a working solution
I just posted something and one of the issues I was having was this. Thanks for the answer! Hopefully a full fix is coming!
Yeah I saw that. Never thought to move it to the phone before updating I'll test it out and see how often it works, you might have found a fix Thanks!
So I have tried doing a factory reset and installing cyanmogen 6.1 but it hasn't fixed it completely. Some aps will install some won't, I'm not sure how it chooses. Can't install Angry Birds do you all think Unrooting and Rerooting? That might fix it probably? Any way you guys could provide me with a link on how to unroot? Thanks

That has nothing to do with it. I tried the method listed but it doesn't always work. The best I can tell you is try again. Go to the 'download' folder on your sdcard and either click on the apk and install it or delete it and try to DL and install it with the market again.
You also might try flashing the new market, see if it's a market issue, I had some serious stability issues with the froyo market before they pushed the huge update.

Not able to download from market on evo

Does anyone have an issue with the market? I can not download anything. In catlog it shows can't find pathname for completed download uri.
Any ideas?
tried a battery pull? Just checked mine, works fine.
YES tried this.. I did have a problem with the latest market where I had to uninstall the market update to revert back to the ORIG market (before the update) to get it to download anything.. BUT since I did a ROM update, I dont have the old version anymore .. so NOW the latest version of the market does not download at all....
Any ideas??
If google voice came on your rom, make sure you haven't killed or uninstalled it. That will mess up market downloads sometimes.

I dont think it came with the ROM but I did install it. Anyway, its there and running fine so I guess that isnt the issue with the market...
HMMM
You could try installing an older version of the market. Has it worked at all since the rom update? Or it just isn't working right now?

SO I believe this is a GOOGLE MARKET ISSUE.. where can I find the previous market that WILL install on the EVO?
If you want, you can pm me with your email & I'll email you the vending.apk that came with cm6 for the Evo. I'm not sure if you can simply replace the apk in system/app or how to go about installing, but if you want it I'll send it to you.

When I click insert, it only gives the option to insert from gallery, camera, or URL. This may be because I'm on my phone, not sure.
And second, I just remembered that my market is themed. I don't think this will cause problems but the op may not want a matted blues market. If not I could pull it out of the original rom download.

Yea, that's just cause you're on the mobile app. And it wouldn't make a difference, just his preference, but yea the original apk could be pulled.

[Q] Can't install SOME non market apks

I have the option checked to install non market apps, but if I download wifi tether, for instance, from the dev's website, my phone will not even let me click on "install," though I can hit "cancel." I've tried this with a free other apks, such a Swype, volume+, etc. Some allow me to hit install and some do not.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions? Btw, rooted gnex, stock 4.0.2, vzw.

First, I want to thank you for posting your question in the appropriate place. By chance, are you running JuiceDefender? If so, there is a bug that sometimes does not allow a user to install non-market applications without a workaround (you will find it in settings when configuring JuiceDefender). If you're not running JuiceDefender, then I am not sure, sorry .
bennettm89 said:

I'm not. And since my original post, while my phone was laying on the couch, something changed and now I'm able to install those apks I've downloaded. Someone at AndroidForums suggested I side-load apks from my computer, but my only means of wifi is from my phone and wifi-tether was one of those apks that wouldn't install, until just an hour ago. I've had this issue rooted, unrooted, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, and it seems to come and go.
It seems no one else is posting about it anywhere that I can find, so if nothing else I wanted others to know that it is happening.

[Fix]Unknown error code during application install: "-24"

I don't know the cause. I have noticed that it has happened on different devices, there have been assumptions if it's because of a specific kernel or rom, although it may be, I beg to differ. I feel it is happening during the Android Upgrading Apps # of # process.
I noticed that this error pops up on most of the apps that I had installed, but are not there after my update. So far with me, it happened only to my paid apps, but not all of them.
When the app disappears, android thinks it's missing, but some files think it is still installed.
Regularly when you install an app over itself, there is a notice telling you that the application info will remain. That's where the problem lies once an app mysteriously disappears. Because part of it is still installed.
Go to
/data/data/
and search for your
com.application-address.whatever-it-may-be
Some of them you can tell what they are just by the names, the others, google-em.
If you wish to keep the information that it contains for the app, I recommend making a copy of it first.:good:
Delete it
Install the application, it'll work, trust me. :fingers-crossed:
Now replace it with your copy.
Done.
Stop factoring resetting if you don't want to. Of course, if you have a lot missing, it might be better. :crying:
If someone can automate this process by making something check the com.address to installed apps, that would be awesome. :highfive:
This totally worked. Thanks bro!
I was setting up my Nexus 4, and this was Tune In Radio Pro was the last app and wouldn't install, I kept getting that stupid -24 error.
Saved me from doing a factory reset!
Works!

I have this issue with Swiftkey and there is no 'data/data/' folder, checked both root and sdcard and hidden files are shown ...

Worked for me as well.
You need to use something like ES File Browser with Root access to get to /Data/Data
I'm running into this issue with a bunch of apps that got lost when flashing a newer CM10.1 nightly. I can't access those folders in data/data since ES File Manager is one of the apps that gets this error!
Is there any other way to fix this? I can't install anything, not even Chrome :crying:

Someone maybe didn't understand the meaning of the thread creater. You must have the root access. Then, open Root Explore and go to "data/data" NOT "sdcard/data/data"

I booted into recovery and found the com.speed.... file for root explorer that way and deleted it and then rebooted. I then was able to load and install root explorer from the play store and now I can sit back and delete all the rest of the apps that won't install correctly...
I guess I could have done it from recovery also but I forgot to write them all down before I rebooted!

Screen rotation not working.

Tried the slap fix. Checked cpu z and my sensors look normal but I'm not sure really what they should look like. Tried turning rotation off then rebooting then turning back on. I have xposed, I saw another forum where someone said they disabled something in xposed to fix it but they didn't say what. Any help is greatly appreciated. I've done the dev conversion and rooted.
Have you uninstalled any apps (especially using Titanium Backup)?
Trying to uninstall Facebook or Instagram using Titanium Backup broke screen rotation for me. Manually deleting the app folders in /system/app/ was fine, though.

I did uninstall both of them with tb. And like the smart person I am I made no backup. Help?
Edit: Would installing from the app store fix it?
Edit:Edit: I tried, it didn't work. What can I do?
Is there a place I can download the apks from the stock image? I have the stock incremented one installed from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...nt/firmware-safe-upgrade-to-lollipop-t3313224
Would that even fix this issue?
It's not so much the apps themselves that's the issue, apparently TB deletes some system libraries that affect screen rotation.
The easiest/safest thing to do would be to reflash one of the safe upgrade options and re-root the phone. Deleting most apps with TB seems to be safe, but manually delete Facebook & Instagram.
Glad to hear the cause of this issue has been narrowed down to the uninstall of Insta and Facebook from system apps. Do you know if it's still safe to disable these apps by using something like Root App Disabler?
This worked for me. Dont flash , just copy the file in the zip to where it needs to go and reboot. It should be fine. Ofcourse make a backup in case.

I have disabled Facebook and Instagram using Titanium Backup and later manually deleted the apps from /system without affecting screen rotation.
The only issue appears to be using Titanium Backup to uninstall them.
I, too, have this problem with Jasmine v7.0. I have deinstalled facebook via TB and now screen rotation no longer works. I tried the libgnustl_shared.so fix but that does not seem to work for me as screen rotation is still broken. If anyone has another idea I am willing to give it a try. Otherwise I think I may re-flash Jasmine and manually remove facebook.

I would try a dirty flash of the exact version of the ROM you're using. It should reinstall the missing programs without messing much else up.

If you can't find anything else that works, wiping and re-flashing with Jasmine 7.0 definitely does. I flashed + deleted facebook quite a few times before I realized it was causing the screen rotation bug. It's tedious, but it will get rid of the problem.
Seems like facebook deletion via TB is not the only way to break screen rotation. I did a test and deleted several apps via TB (but left facebook installed) and I cannot pinpoint exactly which one broke rotation I can confirm that screen rotation did stop working. Therefore it seems that the best route altogether would be to delete apps manually instead of using TB to do so.

Then, battery out/ reboot -didn't work. Other Note: I don't think I can dirty flash my ROM in the traditional sense as Jasmine V7 was only released in backup form. I would have wipe and to do fresh install. (This would suck as it mine is heavily modified) -THX!
