Angry birds keeps deleting from my phone, CM6.1rc2 - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know others are having this problem with this app and a few others as well. want to see how many, and what ROM you're running. I think its something in cm6.1, but im not 100%.
when i try and reinstall it sometimes from the market, it will download, but it wont install sometimes. i just tried 4 times to download and install from market, no go. i unplugged my usb cable from the pc (no, i didnt have the sd card mounted) and then it installed. not sure what the deal was there.
either way, it seems to work fine if i make a backup with TB, and restore it if the app goes missing. it actually doesnt go missing, the icon will just change, and the app name will change from Angry Birds to com.rovio.angrybirds, and if you click it, it just FC's. so i uninstall that and restore it from TB, and all is good, until this happens again. so basically everytime i play and beat levels, when im done i have to back up that app to save my ish.
EDIT: i now see it seems to only uninstall itself when i mount my sd card. if its mounted, it wont reinstall either. im going to try this on my friends Inc (non rooted) and see what happens.

Angry birds installs to your SD card by default. Move it to your phone and your problems will go away. Same thing happened to me

Issue with apps on SD after reboot

Hi all,
I have as strange issue in regards to apps on the SD card. I'm rooted, S-off on 3.29 stock. I installed installLocationMod, which enabled me to move any apps, even those not necessarily programmed, to be moved on 2.2 to the SD card. I basically moved everything that's not system, gapp, or widget related.
Everything works great, until I have to reboot, or I attach the phone to a PC as a hard drive. Basically, the apps don't come back after the phone comes back up, or its disconnected from the PC. I have to spend many hours doing reboots, battery pulls, dalvic cache wipes, etc, and then seemingly randomly, they pop back up.
When they're missing in the app list, the settings / app manager shows that they're there, but they're always "computing" when I select one to read the properties. Also, the market installer gets stuck, and I can't uninstall anything either.
Recently, I've read threads about partitioning the card before moving apps to SD.. is that still necessary with 2.2? Is that why this is such a pain? I'm thinking maybe the only solution is to move everything back to where they came from, and only move those apps that are specifically programmed to be moved on a non-rooted phone, and get rid of the modlocationinstall program altogether. That's a drag because I don't have room for all the apps, so I'll have to lose some... which is one of the reasons I rooted to begin with.
Any ideas? BTW, this is the second SD card that does this. The card is good.
Thanks,
Mike
Hey, I found this elsewhere on the forums in the LimeMOD rom in regards to mod install location:
"important !!! after a reboot you need to stop LauncherPro in the running applications menu to reload all sd installed apps !!! "
Could Sense be the reason for the missing apps issue? Is there a way to 'postpone' it on reboot?
Thx,
Mike

I'm thinking I might try stopping the Sense service after the reboot and letting it restart and see if they come back. I'll try it if I have to reboot again.. I'm actually avoiding rebooting at all cost now since it takes hours of frustration to get back to working order again.
Another thing I noticed.. alot of programs have that I moved have hidden services that are listed in a start-up auditor I installed just to see what the system was doing on boot up. I originally thought I'd be safe moving them since I didn't have widgets associated with them, or they didn't seem system related. Now I'm beginning to realize that I might have to be more careful what is moved, since I don't always know how they'll behave on boot. I suppose that's another reason why its best for non-techies just to rely on devs to build the default 2.2 a2sd behaviour into their programs, rather than forcing them there with stuff like mod install location.
Oh well... I'll keep you all updated when I know more. I'm rather surprised though, that more people aren't experiencing this...
Restarting Sense doesn't do anything. It seems still to be completely random.. usually after 4 or 5 hours of me continually manual rebooting. Nobody has any input at all?

update:
After several unsuccessful reboots, I was able to get back the apps by going into settings / phone storage and unmounting the card, and remounting it, with no reboot. I've tried that in the past and just had the phone lock up, but this time it worked. FWIW, modinstalllocation was set to auto, and debug was off. I don't know if its repeatable, since I don't relish having half my phone unavailable for half the day to test it, but next time I lose everyting, I'll try it again and update the thread. I realize that judging from the lack of responses, most of you all don't really care, but since one guy did say he had the same problem, and to prevent someone in the future from going through all this aggravation, I'll keep on top of this. It will be my little contribution to the forum...
UPDATE: Had to finally do a reboot, and all the SD apps came back! I'm thinking the card dismount/remount did the trick

[Q] sd card problem? i can see it in Astro, but not in Gallery...

Hello,
weird question, i can see a folder in Astro that has wallpapers, but I can't see the wallpapers when looking at the same folder in Gallery.
In fact, i can ONLY see 1 file in that specific folder when in Gallery.
If I go to Astro, I can see all hundred files...
I tried to set wallpaper (i have launcher pro plus) and it gives me the option of Astro or the Gallery. When I try Astro, and I see the wallpaper, it doesn't change the wallpaper. it's the same one i already have. When I choose gallery, i can only see that 1 file....
could this be because I disconnected it before the computer was finished ejecting it? How do I fix this?
I wold go to settings>manage applications>all> click on the gallery.apk and clear cache.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Thanks for the suggestion, I cleared a good 5mb of cache, but I still have the problem. I see like a fraction of the items in folders I know should be full...really frustrating.
Is there a way to copy everything on my card to my computer? I mean, Everything?
Last time I switched cards, I noticed that my copy was less mb than my original, and all the apps that I had moved onto my storage card, I had to download.....
Have you tried clicking on the photo while in Astro, then getting the prompt to view in gallery?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Hey, I just tried it, but when the prompt comes up, the options are " astro" and" view picture" , doesn't say view in gallery....
Do permissions not totally get copied over when copying files from sd card to computer and back? Thinking the solution might be to wipe my card and try again...
Ok, this is weird, I have no idea what is happening. So now, even while looking around on my computer, files are missing in folders where I know there should be files.
Could this be a virus? Something I downloaded?
AND, now, like, hundreds of pictures are missing that i took...like 1gb worth, maybe over a thousand...
could this have happened when i unplugged my phone prematurely?
is there a way i can recover them???
Connect device to pc, as a drive, use pc search function to search sd for *.jpg
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
it's not good, i'm missing it, i think. i went from like, 14gb filled on my sd card to 2 filled....
on my mac i'm using the search function for .jpg, and so many things are missing. wallpaper's i've downloaded, etc.
i dont' mind trying to find the wallpapers again, but i dont' know if ther'es a way to recover those pictures that i've taken. mostly because they're of my kids, etc. i know they're just pictures, but if it's possible, like the info is hidden on the card somehow...
i used this command to show hidden files...
"defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE"
so i can see everything i think.
1. if i format my sd card, how can i ensure that my apps that have transferred to sd stay?
2. if it's a virus, should i not recopy everything back over to my sd card when finished? could it even be a virus, or more likely cuz i pulled it out before done...
Abnormal termination before completion is likely what made it wonky. If you reformat sd, all contents will be gone, but apps can be d/l again. Search for *.jpg yields nothing? Idk how search works on mac - you certain you are searching sd and not internal memory?
Download and run Lookout if concerned about virus, however unlikely.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
the weird part is that i wasn't transferring some of the files that were erased...
and also, it was acting weird, like i ejected it, but wasn't responding, or something, so i pulled it, and then got the "your device wasn't removed properly,..."
thanks for the help;.
i do have lookout, so i guess if lookout didn't see it, then i should be okay...
yes, i'm certain i'm searching teh sd card....i can't believe so MUCH has gone, but oh well, i can't take it w/ me when i'm dead, it's just a thing.
(was reminded about Japan and the Tsunami at church today, made me realize my big huge sd card problem (while it has its importance) wasn't so important after all...)
if it's gone, it's gone, right? do you think i should reformat? i feel like stuff goes in a black hole on the card, now.
thanks again for your help!
oh, btw, what about my apps that are on sd? when i reformat my card, i think the apps will be gone...
well, rather than try and figure out how to copy my sd card w/ hidden partitions, i just moved my apps onto my phone manually, and now i'm reformatting my card and moving what was left back onto my sd card.
hope it's not wonky now... will let you guys know if everything shows up.
SO FRUSTRATING.
okay, went through and formatted everything, etc., (even formatted phone storage by accident, doh) but i put stuff back onto the card, and stuff is still not showing up!
why would it be available to be seen from the computer, but it doesn't show up in gallerY?
Could your SD be near the end of its life? Sorry about your loss on the pics.
DINC // CM7 RC2 // SLAYHER#9
thanks, i appreciate it.
i don't know what happened, but i think i was reading my gallery wrong, as well. what's happening is that it's not quite updating to what's on the card, and i'll put something on my card, but it's not reflected right away.
maybe i'll do a hard reset, anyways... might help.
Sounds like you have a defective card. The same thing happened to me a while back. You can try to reinstall everything but it will most likely die again shortly after.

[Q] Phone Freezing Over Night

Apologies if this has been posted before, I did look but couldn't seem to find the exact same issue.
I've had my phone for just under a year, no real problems. But late last month it restarted over night and since then it started freezing every night when I left it charging. At first I thought it was crashing but the charge light would still be on but all buttons would be unresponsive. The only thing I could do to regain control of my phone was to remove the battery.
I contacted HTC who suggested factory reset...which I don't really want to do. As my phone was only freezing once a day (over night) it wasn't all that bad. To be honest I thought it was an issue with it charging.
For reasons I can't remember, I removed an app that I never used; it was using 2mb space and couldn't be put on the SD. Once removed, the freezing stopped happening and there was much rejoicing...until last night.
I decided to download another app and the freezing happened again over night. I've since removed that app but here's the rub, why is this happening?
The fact it's happening whenever I download more apps to my phone seems to point to a memory issue but my phone has 1.6GB on the SD and 53mb on the phone itself.
I still haven't tried a factory reset and as I've had it less than a year, HTC said I can return it; but there's no guarantee this will fix it and I like my little phone, so if there's a way I can resolve this issue I'll rather do that before trying more drastic measures.
I hope someone can help.
Are you rooted? If that's the case, and, you are charging the phone when it is switched off, what you are experiencing is a known bug.
Also, although unrelated, it is really not recommended to charge your battery overnight or for extended periods. Charge only till it is full.
Nope, not rooted. Just a plain, bog-standard out the box Wildfire.
Thanks for the heads up regarding the charging though Since I bought it (July last year) I had been charging over night on most days but I'll switch to just charging it for a few hours till it's full now.
I guess in case it'll help I'll give a little more info: While charging I leave my phone switched on and I rarely restart my phone unless it drops signal. Only recently with the freezing have I had issues with using it and had to restart it frequently. I'm not a techie person so I've not played around with the phone other than putting on apps, where possible I put them onto SD. My phone is unlocked and I use it on the O2 network.
make a factory reset bro. it tells u whether the issue is with hardware or software. kept under charging mode just heats up the phone by a little level. this dont normally freeze the phone.
but if u r downloading something with data connection, or bluetooth, or wifi and kept charging overnight, then the battery gets overheated heavily which freezes the phone. it is quite normal and is experienced by people who keep overnight downloads.
and further there may be application conflicts in ur phone, which make it slow and freeze. i expect this is the issue with u.
if u r sure that u r not using any data connections, then i suggest u to factory reset ur phone. before that backup all the data. i dont understand what makes u from not doing the factory reset.
Over night my phone is idle while charging. Though I have data enabled (no wifi at home), it's not downloading anything and I have auto sync switched off.
I would have thought if this was an application issue it would have started after installing this dodgy app and also continue until I unistalled. This hasn't been the case. When it started happening I hadn't installed anything other than updates for weeks or maybe months. During the week while it was having this issue, I had installed 1 app (Photoshop).
It has only frozen once during the day, right after work; that was the time I finally thought I'll have to factory reset. So I was writing down all my apps in a notepad so I knew what I had and where they were (I'm fussy with my screen setup). I decided to remove 2 apps I never used (8Pen and Photoshop), I thought I'll leave it 1 night just in case and that night though it never froze, so I didn't reset.
Since then it's been working fine for 3 weeks till last night when I downloaded another app. So it seems random, it's not associated with a particular app and comes and goes.
The reason I'm cautious about factory resetting is that it deletes everything. Though I have backed contacts up to MyLookOut and to my SD card, I'll still loose my apps and data and so I'm not keen on doing it. Not using wifi means it's heafty on my 500mb data package to redownload them again and then I'm unsure if i'll have to upgrade to Froyo again.
End of the day it just seems like a "Turn it off and on again" answer and as it comes and goes and doesn't seem to have a reason why it happens so randomly I don't want to factory reset if there's another way.

u r worrying about loosing data on factory reset. but do u know that u can backup each and everything on the phone including the apps downloaded from market.
ok, i will try to give a software solution. first uninstall all the file managers and app managers in your phone. then go to market and download "ANDROID ASSISTANT". this little app has many features. explore it and u will know its potential. it has a nice option called QUICK BOOST. when u press this quick boost on a heavily stuck phone, u will feel like ur phone got a new life. it makes the phone response faster in seconds.
and further it has auto boost option, which can be set to a minimum of 10minutes. this auto boost will help u in preventing the freeze issue. hope it works. the present version of android assistant is 2.3.3
trying to attach u that one
Many thanks.
How do you backup apps? I know they'll appear in the download list but I'll rather not have to redownload them all, plus I have a few not from the marketplace. I've read that during a factory reset even apps which are apparently "saved" on the SD card are removed because they're not 100% saved onto it. So if you know of a way to back them up I would be most grateful.
Thanks for the Android Assistant.apk too, I'll be sure to look into that! Though I always thought anything that force closed apps wasn't always good - I previously used Task Killer and removed it after being told it could be the route of a force close email app issue I was getting.
Edit: Just got back home and during the journey my phone had frozen!! I had hoped it was a space issue but I've not downloaded any new apps and have even removed some during the day. So my previous thought that this was some how connected to storage on my phone must be wrong. So what on Earth can it be? It's not constant, in fact, like I said I've had this phone for 9 months give or take and it's been fine. So why now and why only sometimes does it freeze?

yes freezing also happens when there is very low phone free memory. when ur apps get filled in phone and keep on decreasing its memory, it is more likely that ur phone gets freezed. its always better to keep a 30MB free phone memory. remember data and cache also use phone memory, so the free memory will be generally unpredictable with minor errors. have u got any idea of a windows pc freezing. a windows pc freezes if there is some errors in registry. that is the reason why i have suggested u to make factory reset first to eliminate the software issues.
u asked me a solution to backup ur apps, right.
firstly i wanna introduce u about the backing up of applications.
android applications will be in the .apk file format and u know this. this .apk file is an installable archive just like .exe of windows OS. opening the .apk files from a file manager installs the program files of that application. but when u download the applications from android market, u will not get the .apk files. the android market installs the program files directly. but we can still create an .apk file from these program files and app managers will do that function. both the files im attaching u below will do that function.
here im attaching u two applications (.apk files)
one is APP CONTROL. i recommend u to use this. it can be used with android assistant installed. both of them work fine. the APP CONTROL version i gave u is an older version and is a full version. A newer version of APP CONTROL is available in the android market, but it is not free. so i strongly recommend u to use this. it has a great feature to backup all ur apps at a single click. the apps backed up by it will be saved as .apk files under the path
MEMORY CARD/backups/apps
i recommend u to back up all ur phone and mem card apps at a time with a single click. explore this APP CONTROL.
i dont want to give a detailed explanation of the other file ANDROID APP MANAGER, because i wont recommend u to use this. im just attaching u this because of only one reason, that APP CONTROL is presently not a full version. using of it is entirely at your personal intrest.
I took your advice and did a factory reset - backed everything up so it wasn't as painful as I first thought it would be. Managed to reinstall everything and so far so good (touch wood) but the original issue was sporadic and so only time will tell.
I have noticed since the reset that my phone memory, which was 50mb before, is now 100mb. So hopefully this will mean that I'm not forced to limit what I download.
Such a shame the Wildfire doesn't have more memory
Thanks again for the help and I'll post if the issue occurs again.

that 50 MB and 100 MB may be due to app memory + cache memory. if u have interrupted the download android apps from market, and have every downloading app partly downloaded and interrupted. then that partly downloaded apps go to the cache memory of MARKET application. u can try and check this.
similarly there will be cache memory for every application. i expect all those cache memories got built up and ate 50 MB of ur phone memory. if it is so, it says that how vigourously u have used ur phone regarding applications.
these cache memories wont get cleaned just on restrating phone, and u should manually clean them either through the phones inbuilt process or through the applications having keywords of cache cleaner.
there is somewhat that i dont like in android apps. which is the application doing extra functions other than its name. now a days, u can see many file managers in android market. and those file managers suppose to have the fuction of explorer of android file system. but they will have additional features like combined app manager, cache cleaner, uninstaller, installer.
this makes the different applications conflict with each other and slow down the os. thats the thing i hate here. i have to choose priority in apps, and sometimes need to avoid nice apps due to that reason.
Well, my phone has just froze again Sent an email to HTC (already had an email chain going with them so I just updated my ticket) and asked them what to try next.
On the plus side at least they won't keep telling me to factory reset!

HOPE U HAVE ELIMINATED THE SOFTWARE ISSUE
OK. hope the phone froze without even single app being installed.
suppose if the freeze was a software issue, then u have backed up the app causing freeze. let us think this like a virus. if u had reinstalled that app again, ur phone is likely to freeze again.
i haven't heard of virusses if android os, but i have seen many antivirus programs for android. even the great kaspersky recently added its support for android. the existance of antivirus programs proove the existance of virusses.
so, try to remember if u have installed any backed up app frm mem card.
Im personally guessing that ur phone freeze was not a software issue. ur phone might be having hardware issues.
giving to a service centre might solve the problem, but im not pretty sure. and moreover, if they update ur phone to froyo, u cant even root. (i dont remember what ur phone is on now). and even u cant make those service centre guys see ur problem, as u dont know when it freezes. i expect, what all they are gonna do to ur phone is factory reset, or reinstall the os.

Media force closing

Ok, so i think my dad accidentaly rebooted my phone while it was Media Scanning. It was fine for a few hours, but then i tried to open a devs website from the market, and it wouldnt open dolphin browser. So, i figured a reboot would help, and all seems normal, but when it starts the 2nd media scan, the media process fc's continually. If i take out the sd it stops. If i put it back in i cant access anything on it, says its full when i still have over 14 gigs left. Anything i should try before reformatting? Got some games on it, and i dont have enough internal memory to move them back.

It probably corrupted the card. If you have an adapter or a card reader on your laptop/PC, try sticking it in there and see if it detects it.
If you can read it on the computer somehow, then back it up on a computer, then you can either format it FAT32 or put it in the phone and format it in CWM. Restore your stuff and it should be fine.

[Q] Apps disappearing

Hello!
I don't know why but some apps on my Epic 4G Touch suddenly disappearing. It is like they have on the device but I can't run it. Mostly it is the apps which I move on SD Card.
If I'm trying to reinstall the app I'm getting the stranger thing. On the App menu I have two apps. As Example right now I have two Paypal. One looks normal withe the picture but second called the Paypall too but I can't run it. it looks gray and only have two letters on it "SD".
Is somebody else have the same?
What is it and how to fix it? Can you give me please some advice?
P.S. Actually, I moved the app back to the phone and it fixed the problem. But still, I don't think it is a normal. What do you think?
I have been having the same issue and though it was a Amazon issue but happens on market apparently as well. I am starting to get pissed with all the issues, live the phone but these issues are mounting.

You may check but some apps are made to install to SD card ....xda Is one that always does it
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
This is normal, not a phone malfunction. When you see an app icon that is greyed out with SD on it, that means you had the app previously installed on your physical micro-sd memory card and the phone is looking for the app. Perhaps you pulled your memory card out before uninstalling the app or for one reason or another you still have left over app data on your memory card which the phone detects as an app which hasnt been reinstalled from the market yet. Ive seen this on my phone when I swapped my memory card into my new exchanged e4gt which was straight out of the box. The phone sees the apps that are supposedly installed but in reality those apps were installed on my previous epic 4g touch. I didnt uninstall the apps before exchanging the phone which resulted in the app data still being on my memory card. Therefore when I put my memory card into my new e4gt, I got the greyed out app icons. The apps were not installed on my new phone yet but the app data was still on my memory card causi.g the phone to see them as apps that are i.stalled on the memory card but actually they're not until you reinstall them from the market WITH your memory card in your phone. I hope you all understand this.
As for having duplicate app icons, that's because you have left over app data from a previous app that was installed to your micro sd memory card and you installed the app again to your phone's built in usb memory.
Here's what I would recommend. Uninstall the apps from your phone memory then reinstall them from the market but make sure your memory card is in your phone and the app will auto install to the micro sd memory card. From there go into Settings:Applications and move the apps to or from your sd card. Clear app data and cache as needed in order to clean up left over files from your memory card/phone installs. Its really not a big deal, you'll figire it out easily . But the phone is not malfunctioning thats the bottom line.
the ones that are greyed out and say "SD" on them may be what you are talking about, but my phone sometimes hides an app from me when I have done nothing but wake up the phone... SD card was formatted when it went into the phone, and hasnt been pulled once. and my apps have been hidden from me 4 times now and a reboot brings them back, so that right there I would call a malfunction.
This is most certainly a malfunction of the phone. I too swapped a memory card from an Epic 4G but I'm having apps disappear that were never installed on the OG Epic. Most recently I got Bejeweled 2 from the Amazon App store as the free app of the day. I have had to re-install it 4 times now. Wind up knight has disappeared twice, about to install it for the 3rd time. I don't know what's going on. I never had this issue with the OG Epic.
Something needs to be done to fix this malfunction.
This for me started happening... And now my notifications/ringers are reset as well. I call this out cause the ringersI use are on the as well. I believe this is new well.
