[Q] HTC Desire screen not working ? SLCD BRICKED ?! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Somehow my HTC Desire's screen is not working.
It might be an SLCD brick but I haven't downgraded or anything of that sort, and I rooted my phone successfully a while back.
This started happening when I installed an AOSP Defrost rom onto it. Do they not work with SLCD's ? I'm not sure. But it worked for a while after installation. But a couple hours later, the phone wouldn't wake up.
Everything but the screen works. It seems that I can power it on, and unlock it on the opening screen. It vibrates when powering on and unlocking. I figure if that's the case then I can probably go into recovery or fastboot.
Unfortunately I don't have a goldcard. Nor do I know how to make a gold card. But I really do not want to resort to that. As well it is a Telus model, so until someone releases an RUU for that, I'm out of luck.
Since my phone is black and I can't see what I'm doing. Can someone give me a step by step button procedure on how I can restore my nandroid backup? As said before I have a amon ra recovery and I'm hoping that this can still work.
On a side note, how is Telus on exchanging your broken phone. It's nearly impossible to tell that my phone is rooted because the screen is black. But I no longer have the 30 day warranty so I'm not entirely sure.
Anyways I hope you guys can help me out!

Anyone ?
(Sorry I really hate to bump)

Come on guys, I'm really desperate here

I don't use AmonRa personally, so I wouldn't be able to give you a step-by-step advice =/.
First thing you should try to do is see if you can actually get into recovery, do this by pushing Volume Down + Power to boot up the device, then wait about a minute or two and push volume down, then power button. This SHOULD get you into recovery if you can... you can test it by hooking it up to your computer and seeing if you can toggle the USB mount for the SD Card.
Going from the picture in this thread: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721792), just push volume down once then the trackball button. If that works, you can put a stock SCLD-compatible ROM onto the SD Card and use the flash from zip option (appears to be 4th item in the menu, but whatever steps are required after that I'm not sure on their positions as I'm using Clockworkmod =/).
Or if you remember the menu options that are available afterwards, try going through the backup/restore menu (3rd item) to try and restore from your nandroid backup.
Hope that somewhat helps =S.

Thanks for the suggestions but i still couldn't do it. It's much harder cause you navigate up and down with the track ball instead of the vol up+down in amon ra.
On another note, I went to Telus today, and the only thing I can do, is send it to the service center and have them take a look at it. If they find out that it's rooted then I'm screwed.
I decided to take my chances with the goldcard and if that doesn't work I'll send it and try my luck.
Does anyone have anymore suggestions, feedback on what I should do :S. It's been a week and I have no replacement phone

I tried flashing a RUU but still no luck with the screen issue, however the flash said it was successful, does that mean that i have a stock ROM now, if so it should still be under manufacturer warranty (within 12 months) is this correct?
thanks

[Q] Desire doesnt boot anymore/cant start clockwork recovery

Hello,
after i did a nandroid backup, my desire wont boot anymore. The display goes on, showing up some green htc letters but turns off after ~20 secs. After another ~10 secs the display turns on again; this procedure repeats.
I cant get into clockwork recovery (probably because the phone is only for 10 secs off).
Any suggestions what to do?
I am not that much experienced in android development etc :/
Regards, Nick
I had the same problem earlier after i did a ROM manager backup.
What i did:
1. Take off back cover and remove battery and replace
2. Get into HBOOT menu (Hold down volume button and power button)
3. Go to Recovery and recover there to a previous back up
It took me a while to figure this out, hope it works for you (seeing as you used nandroid, but hopefully it wont be too different. Im also new to this.)
Nandroid = backup
They're the same thing done different ways

Think there was a thread about people having issues with the first boot after a nandroid backup...

[Q] rooted with broken power button

So my power button all of a sudden broke. It won't turn off or on, the only way to power the phone off is to pull the battery and it turns back on by itself as soon as I put the battery back in. Doesn't anyone have any ideas? I've already done a factory reset, didn't change anything. Also, it doesn't work to select anything in recovery. So my 2nd question is if anyone can tell me how to flash the stock sprint rom so I can take it in and get it fixed?
.
Use the ruu it will run in windows
Same thing happened to my phone. Damn cheap power button. Was waiting for cm6 to work with the new version hardware. Now that it does I will be doing the same.
What I have been doing as a work around is using widget locker to remap the power button to the volume key. And have a screen off widget. I don't mind it but can't do anything in recovery either anymore. So I am gonna take mine in this weekend. I believe they will give you a replacement phone.
FYI - I got thinking that maybe it wasnt a hardware issue but maybe software - and it would have to be something higher up than the recovery system. Anyway, the button started working again and while it was I flashed a new HBoot thinking that maybe it was a corrupted driver or something. It seems to have fixed it, but YMMV.

You can use the ruu to restore our but it will most likely still show s-off in the bootloader. You can fix that by using adb in recovery mode to flash unrevoked forever while in the recovery

[Q] Possible EVO Brick

Tonight, I was trying to load the RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe and everything seemed to be going smoothly. I hit a few screens that I cannot recall exactly and am embarrassed to say but, I cleared all the cache and storage, thinking that I should do this as I have for other ROMs that I have loaded.
The curious question is always "why were you loading that?" I need to send my phone back to sprint because of a warranty issue. Nothing hardware related, just a screen that is loose. In order to make sure that I have a good device, I wanted to send them an original type device. Now that we have that out of the way, here is where I am.
First off, I am somewhat new but have changed ROMs around a lot; Baked Snack, CyanogenMod, Fresh, etc. I like trying out different versions to see what they do.
I saw that I needed to have my SD formatted to FAT32, so I have already done that.
I also have PC36IMG.zip loaded to my SD root.
The symptoms that I am experiencing are:
1. If I hit the power button while pushing the up volume, i get 3 vibrations and thats it. Nothing ever comes on the screen.
2. If I just turn on the device, I get the recovery screen. Once it finds the PC36IMG.zip, it starts loading and has a blue status bar on the right that goes from bottom to top as it loads.
After that, I am pretty much in the endless loop. If I restart it in recovery after that, it gives me the red triangle with a red bang.
The only thing that it will do is boot into recovery and that is it. It seems pretty well blanked out.
For diagnostic, here is what the screen says when i get into recovery:
Supersonic EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0-79.0000
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PAMEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-1.39.00.04.26
April 14 2010,15:41:34
I am beside myself and humbly ask for anyones advice on what a good step would be to get this thing running again.
I thank you for taking time to read my plea.
OK...
1)The first thing I would recommend is to delete the PC36IMG.zip from the sdcard otherwise everytime you boot into the bootloader it will ask to flash it and it will just waste time. There are a number of PC36IMG files around here and they are not all the same. It is a generic name for the RUU and if you try and flash the wrong one it won't work. And, that seems to have happened to you.
2)The white screen you arrive at by holding down the volume down button and tapping the power button is called the bootlader. Take note of that because we'll need it in a minute.
3) Downloaded the stock Sprint unrooted RUU. It needs to be the same version or newer than what's already on your phone but since you are sending it in anyway I recommend just downloading the newest one (3.7.651...) Here is a link:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Supersonic
4)Download HTC Sync and install it on your computer. You can get it from HTC's site or Sprint or through a google search. It will install the necessary drivers to your computer to see the phone. [EDIT] Here is a link:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/
5) Once all the above is done boot the phone into the bootloader (hold volume down and tap the power button while still holding the volume down button). When the menu shows up use the volume keys to navigate to "FASTBOOT" and press the power button to select and enter FASTBOOT. Plug the phone into your PC and run the RUU.exe you just downloaded and it will return it to a completely stock unrooted state.
6) Breathe easy and take phone back to Sprint.
Thanks!!!
Worked like a flippin' charm!!!
Thank you very much for your help. Everything is fine and I am setting it back up to get me through until I can turn it back in.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.. and did I say Thank You!
Been trying to figure out how to use the RUU for two hours... this was the clearest most concise instructions for the process.

[Q] Need to unroot but power button broken

My power button is no longer working and I need to unroot in order to get repaired through sprint. With no power button I can't flash through recovery. I'm not familiar with adb push but I have used button remapper to gain access to my reboot options and to wake the phone. Can anyone help me please???
Update*** seems the power button works to select in bootloader but still not in recovery??? Need to find a way to get S ON without recovery
ISSUE RESOLVED I USED ROM MANAGER'S INSTALL ROM FROM SD FUNCTION AND PICKED THE S-ON ZIP AFTER THIS INSTALLED I PULLED THE BATTERY AND HELD VOL DOWN AS I REPLACED IT THEN USED HBOOT TO INSTALL THE PC36IMG FILE WOOT!
The button is just a cosmetic cover for a micro switch. Can you stick a pen in there or do you need to take it apart to gain access
Wat I would do is report it as lost or stolen make a new story or tell them that some one dropped in the toilet its still going to be one hundred no matter what

my power button just stopped working, i need to unroot to see if sprint will fix it, im rooted with the kingdom virus b1.3 rom, i have a custom splash screen which i was told i need to change back to the original before i unroot, i found an app that allows me to reboot into the bootloader screen but once it does it always freezes and it never ask me to update the pc36img file or whatever...is it because on the virus rom i had to partition the sd card or something? is there a manual way or something to change the splash screen? also if i can get the splash screen back to stock how would i go about unrooting with no power button?
thanks
I am having the HARDEST time getting my phone to S-ON. My power button is also not working, prohibiting me from using recovery to flash anything. I used unrevoked3 to root my phone and I am trying to get S-On with the S-ON zip to no avail. I do the same as you and flash it through ROM manager, it flashes the zip but doesnt go back to recovery, instead it restarts the phone on its own and back to my ROM. I then go to the bootloader and still says S-Off. I've done this about 3 times with still the same S-Off in the bootloader. I don't want to run the PC36IMG until I KNOW i've achieved the S-On. Where am I going wrong here? It has me frustrated to no end...

[Q] Stuck in a boot loop with HTC diagnostic area (dead volume down rocker)

Hey guys
I'm running MrGarak's fantastic MIUI rom however I've found that the kernel is booting my phone into that white HTC diagnostic screen by default. Unfortunately my volume down button is dead and so I can't navigate the menu; the only way I can boot my phone at the moment is to boot it connected via USB as that makes it boot to Recovery and I can reboot from there.
Any ideas? I think this and another rom I tried both used LordMUE's kernel, could that be the reason the boot preferences don't default to just booting the OS?
Any help and/or pointers would be greatly appreciated
So you can access bootloader and recovery!
So just flash another kernel. What's your problem?
Put a zip on your SD (with a SD reader or ADB pull), then go in recovery, navigate with the 4 keys under the screen (or vol+ and power)... and flash.
What is strange for me is that it seems to happen sudenly... so how do ou know it's the kernel. Anyway...
I have clockwork recovery, and can navigate it using the soft keys (home menu etc). You should also he able to use the vol up key to get to the bottom of the list, (depending on the recovery you're using I suppose)

Unfortunately it boots into the white HTC area (dunno what it's called). The one where you can see if your phone is S-OFF or not.
Also, I'm not sure what is to blame... but I've only just recently noticed that my phone cold boots this way so I assumed it was a recent rom that I applied. Will test this theory later.
Sounds to me like your volume down button is stuck in.
Definitely not a ROM issue, as it has nothing to do with the bootloader.

Hey, i had this issue like a month ago. You can check my previous threads. It's hardware I'm 100% sure. Basically if you're in warranty you need to flash the stock rom with S-On so you can get a new phone. You can get it to boot but it's really a pain. You have to play with the volume up when first turning on your phone. It took me about an hour. Then when it boots you'll be in a "Safe Mode" (no clue whats limited all seemed fine to me). Then do your backup if you wish.
Also note: Flashing the S-On rom is a PAIN, took me about 2-3 hours of rebooting, holding vol up, tapping vol up, to get it to boot right, but with patients you'll get it to go.
Good luck to ya.

Ah, I'm definitely beyond warranty. The thought of vol+down being stuck down makes a lot of sense!
I'll just take it to one of the dodgy Asian repair shops, if it's a hardware issue I'm sure they'll know what to do.
Cheers for your help everyone!
