Hard to find an answer when there isn't a category yet ---
Maybe I am just late in hearing this but Hantec is taking pre-orders. Release date isn't until November. UGH. Still I bought it because the closer it gets to the holidays the less money I will have ..
I am trying to find out what exactly SIM FREE Unlocked means. Want to make sure that it doesn't mean I can't put a sim card in there and ALSO if TMobile will work with this phone . . I don't care about 3G or 4G ..
Hantec says that it means that pretty much all cards will work and it will work with T-Mobile in the UK .. does that mean it will also work with T-Mobile USA?
HSPA+ 21Mbps 850/900/1900/2100
EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900
I tried looking on the T-Mobile site but gave up .. How can a gadget a holic be this gadget stupid ??

[Request] Samsung Galaxy S (Forum Redesign) + Bell Vibrant + Latin America I9000 DTV

Just launched yesterday live with rock concert and all.
This one is different from the T-mobile version as it comes exactly like the SGS i9000 with the front camera and all its whistle, plus a few more extra apps, but it runs on the 850 instead of the 900 and it's apparently locked, the international 900 is unlocked
So... are we going to get a new forum for this variant of the Galaxy S, or should we go with this suggestion that many has agreed on this topic?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723076&page=3
to amalgamate all the Galaxy S variants into one organized Samsung Galaxy S forum, then a General section for each sub variant(carrier), else if we keep the current model, we'll have way too many duplicated forums for the same thing, also the development/messages will not be transparent to end users specially those not aware all these models are the same.
Cheers
I guess one important question is: Are ROMs and root methods interchangeable (or nearly so) between the Bell Vibrant and the international versions? If so, then discussion of the Bell Vibrant belongs in the international Galaxy S forum.
the only difference is the radio band, just like the New Zealand model and China model
they are all GT-i9000, but all 4 models (Euro, Asia, NZ, Canada) each runs on a different set of Quadbands
- Edit -
it might be okay to have the Asia and NZ thrown into the same bucket as SGS i9000
but the Bell model is not known as i9000, rather it is advertized as Samsung Vibrant, yet it is not the same Vibrant that is already in the forum, because the T-mobile Vibrant is different from the Bell Vibrant.... see what i'm getting at?
it would have made sense if bell kept it as i9000, rather than Vibrant
Right, the radio band is different.
Now on some phones this makes no difference firmware-wise: You can load the same ROMs on an "AT&T" or "T-Mobile" Nexus One and it will work on whatever frequencies the phone has.
On others it does make a difference: Motorola Milestone firmwares are specific to either UMTS 850/1900/2100 or 900/2100. Installing the wrong firmware results in loss of 3G in non-2100 countries and degraded 2G performance too. There is a group of files one can copy from one ROM over top of another to force it back to the right bands.
Of course there is only one way to find out... someone needs to obtain a Bell Vibrant, try to root it with the same method, and make a full nandroid backup for safekeeping. Then load on a ROM or nandroid backup from an international Galaxy S. See if it still boots, if 3G still works, etc. I suppose there is a small risk of bricking too though
according to a couple of users that got hands on the device already, they were able to flash the unlocked i9000 firmwares into the Bell Vibrant (still locked)
Hi All,
I returned my "Captivate" especially to buy this phone & however neither "Bell" site nor "Samsung Canada" posted what are the frequency bands but it has the 3G 850 required for AT&T here. I suggest to stick with the international I-9000 Thread because After rooting we will have the same things in common with it.
Thanks
I just called "Bell" & they told me that they unlock the phone for $75 & then I called them again & the Rep wasn't that helpful. I'm willing to pay any amount of money to sim unlock it, any of you guys know a "Guaranteed" site for that?

of people having bricked their phone due the confusion we have in the forums.

Purchasing Galaxy Nexus GSM in Korea

I have a friend visiting Korea next month, and I was wondering if anyone is from there that have purchased the Galaxy Nexus. I would assume given that it's Samsung, they would sell their flagship Nexus phone there, too, correct?
I know it's a world phone with pentaband, so regardless of where it comes from, it should still run on Tmobile's network and 3G data, even if it's one from Korea, correct?
My other concern is whether the phone will offer an English (USA) option. Does anyone know?
And in general, are there other reasons/concerns I should consider before I have a friend purchase it from Korea to bring back to the US for me? I'm hoping this will be a cheaper method... possibly?
Probably need a connection to get one in korea. No official release in korea that is known. On the other hand, if you have a samsung connection you should go for thenexus gold and try to get a 32gb galaxy nexus gsm version.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 which is in the wrong country.
Its not for sale anywhere but the UK right now.
To answer your other question, yes, it will work on T-mobile US just fine.
Thanks for the replies. Interesting that it's not sold yet even in Samsung's home country...
Well, if my friend misses the release, it's not a biggie.
Would anyone know about the language? The device will have an option to have it all in English, correct? Or any other concerns, like whether I will be use apps from the US, etc?
EDIT: I also found this link: http://www.wirelessgoodness.com/2011/11/22/the-samsung-galaxy-nexus-for-korea-hits-the-fcc/

selling phones has nothing to do with where the manufactures headquarters is located. And to answer your question about English being an option, pretty much all Android ROMS offer English as an option for the main language
The problem might be getting to the english option though.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 which is in the wrong country.
The Galaxy Nexus in Korea actually went on sale 11/28 along with the LTE Galaxy Note. The English option should not be a problem since on stock android you have the option of setting your default language from Korean to English or vice versa. The only problem is that by default it would come with Korean and you need to navigate to the Language/Text Input options. I can help you with that if you'd like.
Thanks for the responses, everyone.

Do you happen to know how much the Galaxy Nexus is going for in Korea? I would only ask my friend to bring me back one if the price was significantly cheaper than say importing it through expansy or handtec.
Also, if and when the time comes, I may take you up on your offer of help for navigating the menus to switch to English. =D
+ 1, a friend is there until mid December. Check this article out: http://phandroid.com/2011/11/29/gal...ah-extended-battery-and-cover-in-south-korea/

T-mobile US uses 1700/2100 (AWS) for 3G. The Galaxy Nexus is pentaband and works on pretty much any GSM network in the world.
Perfect, thanks. I'll see if i can find them. Hoping for under $700 UDS

Yes, please share the price.
I am living in Seoul and have been using my GSM Galaxy Nexus for a few days (shipped from UK). It works fine.
I wouldn't recommend buying a Korean Galaxy Nexus though because:
a) I am not sure there are GSM models available for sale here
b) A Korean GSM model (if available) may not work outside Korea for things like SMS and MMS
c) Bloody expensive here. It's a captive market so the koreans get screwed.
It is best to buy an unlocked Galaxy Nexus from abroad and bring it here. Even then, it's a right pain to get a simcard. I know, I've been through it.

The SK Telecom WCDMA uses 2100MGHz.
Not to be off topic but has your friend considered a Galaxy S II HD?

I'm curious, too. Except for the vanilla android experience, I would seriously consider the Galaxy S II HD LTE in Korea.

Release Information:
"Beginning June 20th, the Samsung GALAXY S III will be available through leading Canadian wireless carriers and authorized national retailers." (Source)
It'll be carried by the following carriers: WIND Mobile, Videotron, SaskTel, Virgin Mobile, Bell, Rogers, and TELUS, as well as the following retailers: GLENTEL, Best Buy, and Future Shop. (Source)
Bell also has a sign up page for the GS3. They too are getting the lte version.
I'll wait and see how development is for the bell version. If international roms are compatible, sans radio, I might get it, even though lte coverage here is f*** all, or I might just get the international version regardless.
Can't wait to play with one when they hit Canadian stores.

As far as I know, unless the Canadian version is the international, it usually coincides with it's American counterpart. Thus, I have a lot of ROMs I can flash to my Rogers Captivate, because the AT&T Captivate has a lot of ROMs as well.
But you can't go wrong with the international version. I personally don't mind getting the S4 chip in lieu of the Exynos, because I'm upgrading from my Cappy, so the increase in performance will be substantial regardless of whether the Exynos outperforms the S4 or not.
Plus I want to experience LTE. I have 6 GBs of LTE data that my non-LTE phone hasn't been able to make use of.
Damn. The HST is killing the price for the S3. I'm in Vancouver. I might have to settle with getting it at mobileDNA in Richmond. Cash, no tax.
June 20th?? First Day of Summer!!!
Samsung did say in time for the summer at their London Event.
Samsung’s Galaxy S III is one of the most anticipated Android devices ever made. It’s coming to Canada on basically every carrier ”this Summer,” TELUS, Bell, WIND, Videotron, SaskTel, Mobilicity, Virgin Mobile and Rogers. We reported last week that Samsung will start a Canadian trek on May 30th to give employees and retail outlets the “Galaxy S III interactive training sessions.”
We’ve been hearing several launch dates, such as the June 20th date that’s listed in the above screenshot. The first day of Summer is June 20th and would ever so smoothly fall in line with what Samsung’s official press release quoted “in time for the summer.” Future Shop and Best Buy also confirmed that they will have the GS III available when it launches and we’re also hearing that pre-orders will go live on May 30th.

Won't let me most post link but there is an ad that has all the major carriers in Canada and the Galaxy S III of course.

Blue, because I've already had a white phone before. I also do a lot of browsing in bed with the lights off, so the blue will blend in with the night.
And trust me, this was not an easy decision to make, because the white S3 is a gorgeous device, and it looks better than the blue in pictures. But a lot of people have said the blue looks better in real life than in the pictures.
Hopefully, Rogers will have both colors in stock when it launches. If they only have one, I'll get whichever is available.

The reason I decided to get the international version is because there's a possbility that the North American version will have the four capacitive keys. I want the international version with the one hard key. I love it on the S2. I just love that you have two options to wake up the phone.
Here's the article on the AT&T and T-Mobile version. If AT&T and T-Mobile are getting a different look, you can bet the Canadian carriers will get it as well.

[Q] Where to Buy ? Note II 4G LTE Sim Free for use with O2

I'm looking into getting one of these & have a very good priced Sim Only deal with O2.
Anyone know where I can get the 4G LTE Version (model N7105) & does it come unlocked to all Networks (Preferably in Grey) ?
I'm thinking of going this route so I can see how the whole 4G situation works out in the UK & it would mean I could later get a Sim Only 4g deal.
No reponses ?
In the meantime, I have found that Orange UK sell the LTE version, so I could buy it there & then get it unlocked.
I would save your money until o2 have LTE enabled.... By then the note 3 (or 4) will be out.

If O2 has dc-hsdpa the n7105 will still get faster speeds than an n7100 even without 4g/lte, as the n7100 doesn't support dc-hsdpa whereas the n7105 does.

It only has 16 GB internal memory...
And this is the killer .....the India version will not have LTE! !
LG in its infinite wisdom has chosen to remove LTE from the Indian model..and probably the reason is that LTE is not yet available in India ..but were 3G phones not launched by Nokia like 6 years back when nobody in India even knew what 3G meant? This is ridiculous...does LG expect u to buy new phones when LTE launches in India in 6 months time?

Model number e988 for India..
e988 is also for HK..
This is ridiculous...does LG expect u to buy new phones when LTE launches in India in 6 months time?
and this phone just won the 'best LTE device's award ...how ironic

Actually 3G phones have a unified radio i.e. a set of only 4 frequencies and a single modem can be used for all those....in case of LTE a unified radio is still no available and each modem they have to put in a phone caters to a specific LTE band...even in a single country there are multiple bands and the phone's LTE won't work on each other....for example in Korea there are three models of LG OGP F-240 K/L/S each caters to LTE of different carrier and cannot be used on another network...
thus if LG removed LTE it is a good thing as it will be useless until a carrier identifies the band it has been allocated by the Govt and will use....also comparison with 3G before time is not relevant as working mechanism is slightly different

Actually there are a few things to consider here
1) the Indian version still uses snapdragon 600 which is a chipset that has LTE enabled by default ...so actually LG has had to work to disable it rather than enable it, and I fail to think why they did that. Reminds me very much of the nexus 4 where they did the same thing
2) you are right about LTE bands not decided yet for India ...only working LTE service, Airtel in kolkata on a pilot basis, uses a 2300 MHz band which is not supported by any of the international phones ...however it is likely that when LTE services are rolled out on a mass scale, bands will be chosen based on popular bands internationally, in which case the chosen bands are likely to be one of the bands on the phone ..unless the Indian rollout uses LTE advanced, which is not available on any version of this phone, I think there is a strong possibility that with LTE enabled, this phone will be future proof
3) I don't think disabling LTE will lead to any cost advantage as the chipset is still going to cost the same
4) with LTE disabled, any custom rom support for international versions like AT&T etc is unlikely to work for the Indian version (although that may be the case with LTE enabled also but with LTE disabled the radio configuration will definitely not allow such porting)
Only saving grace could be if LG announce that they are not advertising LTE in the specs but that have not disabled it.
Lets wait for July 4th

No LTE is not a thing to be disappointed about...at the moment you have no LTE network and as for "future proofing" the argument is not that strong as you cannot confirm that the band will match....
as for 16GB...imo it is enough but again you have the option of expandable memory and with a simple script you can move app data to sd card...plus usually 16/32 GB models differ in price as much as $100 but you can get a 32GB card for as low as $30.....so im happy if only 16GB model is available as it will keep price low and chance of more people buying it and hence maybe more development
in a nutshell i don't see any real issues here to get disappointed over but again its my humble opinion

Mumbai Update:-
I went to alfa today (renowned place for phones in mumbai) and they said they dont bother keeping LG's any model except the nexus 4, the dealer was very vague in saying once you buy an LG product forget about getting good service. I for one was upset knowing this at first.
secondly this youtube review shows extra battery, a chargeable dock aswell. So it doesnt matter if its non lte or 16 gb but if these goodies are packed then its worth it. I mean there isnt good resale with LG but what the heck its better than note 2 at the moment and pretty usable.
Anybody here knows any place in mumbai where is it gonna be available? Please update here

Alfa is a laggard, not a leader...they will keep a phone only if it becomes popular or the brand is popular..don't waste time worrying about what they said.
The extra battery and charging dock are only for the Korean version...for India you will get standard stuff - charger, headphones, USB cable
Check the official link I posted earlier
Sorry I seem to be bringing only bad news to this thread - I call it a reality check
