Hi all,
I recently got a htc desire from Telus and used my old fido (not support 3G) sim to unlock the phone. Then later on i purchased a new fido sim that support 3G and of course have my plan changed to get 3G data, but i don't see the signal bar with 3G on top of it and when i try to use data (by checking email) without turning my wifi on, it doesn't do anything at all. Do you have any idea?? At first I thought i may have something to do with the branded version so I rooted and applied leedroid 2.2, but still having the same problem!!
I checked my phone and it's A8182 which supports 850/1900MHz carriers (including Fido!!) but mine doesn't work!! Please help!!

Hey everyone. New to Android and Desire.
I am about to purchase a Telus Desire.
I am on the Fido Network. How can I unlock the HTC Desire.
Most of the guys i PMed refered me to a website where i have to pay to have it unlocked.
No other way to unlock phone without paying?
No you have to pay to unlock the phone.
Afaik, you can only pay to unlock. Might be other options though.
This thread drew me in because I remember reading on some phone website that made the error of saying Android 2.2 was Fido instead of FroYo. Was kinda hoping this was the same mistake

I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6710085&postcount=3
so I think you dont have to pay if you follow the GoldCard procedure.
Please correct me if wrong, don't want to confuse others
No that just debrands the handset. The imei number is what is associated with the unlock. Not if its branded to a certain carrier or not.

make Factory reset, after device will factoried, operator automatically will give you latest settings
also you can try to change in Wifi&Networks - Mobile networks
- Network mode (to 3G)
- Enable always-on mobil dat... Select (this enables more power on some mobile networks)

I've got a Telus HTC Desire unlocked and being used on Rogers. It's rooted and flashed with the proper radio for Froyo (32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20) and running Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 RC2.
It makes phonecalls and texts just fine, but I cannot for the life of me get 3G working on Rogers. Wifi works fine too, but 3G is just a total no-go.
I've got the APN set up correctly as far as I can tell, and in the settings data is turned on.
Any ideas?

Telus and Bell's 3G network share the same frequency spectrum as Rogers. So yes, they should work, provided the phone is setup correct. Thats why all of Canada's big 3 can offer the iPhone.
I signed up just to thank you! Even the Rogers tech support didn't know what to do. Simple when you know, and my HTC Desire has zero APNs available. Soon as I added this, I was online!
In the UK we get these settings text to the phone, read and delete to update settings and I was surprised in Canada this wasn't done. Phone was blind and tech support didn't know to check this.
Now you've shown us how to configure the APN to work, I'd love to see if theres a thread or page on Rogers with the very latest settings, should these be older or mising some details. After all, will the wrong APN details upset a phone plan?
Thank you for your priceless help.
NP lol. And do the apn wouldn't upset the plan.
there is also 1 more apn that I use now is
Name - Rogers
Apn - internet.com
User - wapuser1
pass- wap
And leave the rest I personally like this apn better.

Hi I'm from canada and i'm having a problem with getting my phone to work.
I recently bought a Desire HD brand new from telus and am trying to use it on rogers. At first I got a unlock code and put in the rogers apn settings and did the *#*#4636#*#* and set it to unknown ( which i read online ) and it was showing 3g and was working fine.
Then the next day I took the sim card out to back up the numbers on my old phone, but every since then I haven't been able to get 3g again. At first it was just showing g , now it stays on wcdma preferred in the *#*#4636#*#* settings. It also won't allow me to select rogers keeps saying that the sim card does not allow me to select this carrier even though it is a rogers sim card.
I have also restarted it and turned it off many times, made sure that both the sim and sd cards were in properly and still nothing.
Please if anyone can help me with this , I really like the phone but my patience is running out with it .
okay so im with att and i got my g2 unlocked.
problem is, is that i have no network. i looked at the settings and its disabled.
i clicked the setting for use 2g only but i still cant get internet.
is there anyway i can get internet besides wifi?
help please

No network as in you can't even make calls or just no data? If it's no data, you need to be sure to enter in the correct APN settings. Not sure what they are offhand, but you should be able to find them with a search.
If you mean no network at all, how did you unlock the phone?
Edit: My APN settings (under Settings->Wireless & networks->Mobile networks->Access Point Names):
# Name: ATT WAP
# APN: wap.cingular
# Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
# Port: 80
# Username: Not Set
# Password: Not Set
# Server: Not Set

I think you only need to set the actual APN and the MMS settings to get data working though.
i can make calls and text but i just have no internet data.
i got my phone unlocked from a store near my house.
and when i try to go on my APN settings its just blank. nothing shows up
You would have to add it yourself with the settings the user above has provided. I think it's menu and just add/create

i have some other questions too if you guys dont mind.
should i have just gotten the Desire Z since i have att?
i called att and they said i dropped to 2G from 3G but when i check the phone status it says no Mobile network state is Disconnected. i cant even get the 2g.
is the g2 compatible with att when it comes to the internet data?
like i said, i'm texting and sending/recieving calls perfectly fine.
does anyone have an unlocked g2 with att?
A G2 will work on AT&T for 2G data, i.e. EDGE at best. You will not be able to use 3G. You should really sell that G2 and buy a NAM model (Bell) DZ.

Did those APN settings I posted not work properly? Did you enter them all in or only the APN and MMS settings? This should have worked (tried on my phone), but you can try entering everything in if it didn't. Maybe a network issue over at your location?
And the last time I looked, the Desire Z NAM was running around $550 to $600 new.
Im having trouble connecting to the rogers 3G network. I have flashed my phone numerous times and reset my APN settings a few times. I used the APN settings at this link
thekidd.ca/blog/tech/rogers-apn-settings
I have tried changing the network manually but when I select the 3G Rogers theres an error message that pops up at the bottom saying that my SIM wont allow it to connect.. But the 2G network it will connect to Just fine.
Any Ideas on how the hell to fix this? It was working for the last 2 months after i debranded. Until this sunday my 3G was working. I went to orientation for work and when i came out my battery was dead. I charged it and thats when it all went south. [email protected]

I have the T-mobile branded (T-999) Galaxy S3. It is rooted and I am running a custom rom (Frosty Jellybean). I got the unlock code from T-mobile because I told them I will be travelling abroad (to India). So my question is: Can I just get a prepaid sim card from a mobile carrier in India and stick it in my phone and then enter the unlock code and will it work just like normal? Does anyone know if this phone is compatible with 3G or 4G networks in India for internet access? Do I need to be running any specific "international" version of a ROM, or will my custom rom work? Any advice would be appreciated (or if you can direct me to where to find such info). And before you ask, yes I did attempt to search the forums, but I got the following message..."Search is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Thanks in advance.

Use the code they have you on a TouchWiz ROM. Not sure if it works with a variant of AOSP. If you have a T-999, then you cannot install an international ROM - it still doesn't change the fact that your phone is a T999.
Look up the frequency bands for India and find out if this phone will work with it 4G bands there.
Ok, thanks for the info so far.

Bobolinko, you are right that I don't know anything about APN settings. I did do a search and found how to access APN settings by going to Settings > more settings > mobile networks > access point names. Currently all I see there is the T-mobile US entry, I'm assuming you are saying that I need to hit the menu button and "+ New APN", then enter whatever info the mobile carrier in India gives me right?

I found India uses 900/1800 bands and 2100 for 3G. Minimal 4G coverage there currently. Specs for S3 show that it is compatible with all these frequencies so I assume I'm good to go if I can figure out the APN stuff.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem or can help with a solution. I just got my Oppo 7 (love this thing) but it seems the network doesn't work properly. The network seems to be picked up just fine, full bars, under network settings it automatically acquires the APN settings and everything, but I can't do anything over the air without WiFi. As soon as the WiFi is gone, I can't browse the internet, send or receive text messages, etc. What do?
Will this help? Won't be LTE, but H+ (my phone doesn't have LTE)

That's odd. There's one thing wrong with this device on stock - its APN database for AT&T is 3-4 years out of date. It was still using the wap.cingular APN when I turned mine on.
You need to manually put in the AT&T LTE APN (pta). ALSO if you've never owned an LTE device before you'll need to talk to AT&T to have your account updated. (Using the pta APN with a Nexus 5 resulted in no data for me too until I had my plan/account updated. You can do this without an actual contract change - for example I'm still grandfathered in to "unlimited data"). In general I would recommend doing this in-person at an AT&T-owned store, not at the phone and not at a franchisee (like most small mall kiosks).
Thanks for the reply everyone, I entered in the new ATT HSPA+ APN and it works like a charm now.

Just putting in the pta APN with no other info was enough for me.
(MMS is probably borked for me until I fill in the right settings for it but I use MMS maybe once every 3 years at most.)

I just realized that you were in here Entropy. I appreciate the work you did with the Galaxy S2 (last phone I had before this one). Do you plan on doing any dev work with this one or are you going to take it easy?
mmsc: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
mms proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
mms port: 80
apn type: default,mms.supl
That's what I have currently and mms works fine.

I'm working on lighting up omni. Oppo sent us a few devices.
Thanks for the MMS info, I should stick that into my device.

I pulled the APN configs for ATT Phone APN from omni's github (I updated it a few months back to what it was from an AT&T stock TouchWiz Galaxy S4 ROM, so it this is update-to-date afaik)

APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4

I have this as my settings now and still only get H+. (except for the mmsc, you have 3 m's)
Weird thing is that I get 0 connection when I change from phone to pta.
Not sure if locale is the culprit. I'm in Oklahoma City.

whoops made a typo, yea it's only 2 m's in mmsc
try applying ATT Phone apn and rebooting,,
that's weird. did you call AT&T to confirm that you have the LTE data package on your account like Entropy512 stated ?

I went to the ATT store, but they weren't any help. They confirmed that the SIM they gave me was lte compatible, but I assumed that's the same thing as having an LTE data package. I'll give them a call tonight and let you all know. (btw, just re-applied your settings and still no luck)
edit: called.. and they claim that all accounts have lte compatibility now and of course she had never heard of the OF7a
The settings entropy posted were the exact settings my N5 had which I copied over and worked fine. One thing to be aware of is that mine says 4G on LTE and then either H or H+ for those, not sure if this applies only to my service area or what and another might show differently. At any rate if you're getting 4G showing you might wanna run speedtest and see if you are getting LTE.

AT&T's SIMs have been LTE compatible for years, even before AT&T had an LTE network. I need to check to be sure, but I'm fairly certain my SIM is still the original "cut down SIM" that I've had since 2011 at least.
It's your account that needs to be LTE-enabled.
Don't call. Phone support is awful. Go to a corporate-owned AT&T physical store. That's where the competent staff are.
(In my case, I originally did the LTE upgrade on a Nexus 5 - if you put a SIM into a Nexus 5 that doesn't have LTE on the account, you'll get a text message saying to call AT&T.)
