BEFORE COMPLAINING THAT FLASHING UPDATE ZIP DOSENT WORK READ THIS:
What you can do for now is flash old kernel and flash update.zip and then go back to new kernel. But i would recommend all to get rom makers to change scripts!
Koush said:
Hi everyone, I understand Clockwork 3.0 has caused some issues with flashing zips and I wanted to make a post that explains why.
To give you back history, there are currently two ways to create "update.zip" scripts. The first one is "update-script", also known as Amend. It was the first version of the scripting language created by Google, and was used in Android 1.0 and Cupcake (1.5). However, Amend has two serious design flaws:
Function arguments can not span more than 1 word.
The scripting language is compiled into the recovery causing image bloat and inflexibility.
Because of this reason Google REMOVED Amend support in Donut and beyond, and instead switched to update-binary and updater-script, which is also known as Edify.
However, Amon Ra and I kept Amend support in, to help ease the transition off its usage in ROM creation. CyanogenMod itself has already switched to Edify 9 months ago.
With the recent Gingerbread source code drop and the upcoming CM7 release, I needed to merge the latest changes from Google's Gingerbread recovery into ClockworkMod recovery. This meant finally removing Amend support, and switching fully to Edify. If you flash ClockworkMod 3.0 or higher, it will no longer install Amend (update-script) zips. Version 3.0.0.4 will show you the following message:
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Please switch to using Edify, as it will be a requirement for CM7 Gingerbread based ROMs. I gave notice about this a month ago on Twitter.
If you must absolutely flash an older Amend zip, you can always flash an older recovery or AmonRa or the like and do it manually.
UPDATE:
Here's a 2.6 version (supports both script versions) and backs up wimax:
http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recover...supersonic.img
PLEASE TEST THIS FOR ME!
Please note, that once CM7 is released, Clockwork 3.0 WILL BE A REQUIREMENT.

We shud get all rom packers to update their script to offical current update-script language

Wow sounds great...

Hey,
Any chance for similar tweaks on voodoo-eclair ?
Id appreciate it.
Thanks

I flashed this and now my phone does a reset every single boot... strange.

thats very strange.. i reflashed 3 new roms and tried this one.. what kernel did you have? ULF? you had any lagfixes enabled? since this is voodoo it only allows /data ext4.

Can i flash it over the voodoo kernel?

yes thats what i have done thats what i would suggest you todo. its like a normal voodoo "update"

Hmm yeah I flashed it over the steel one with advanced EXT enabled :/
Then I did a factory reset, however.

how high the cpu freq goes?
This includes the extended RAM?

1,2ghz and yes on the big ram

Good to know it seems that i find the right kernel to flash. There is any instability playing games or anything 3d heavy?
And the 64k dollar question. How about the bat life?

As we have to suggest stuff...
- Add sztupy's Ultimate Lagfix which has a custom recovery.
- Add nikademus' Universal External Lagfix.
- Add the choice for a BFS Scheduler in addition to the standard CFS.
- Add all of Hardcore's Kernel, Scheduler and VM tweaks.
- Compilation optimization, the way laststufo does. Or he'll do it anyway I guess.
It's all I can think of right now. This is gonna be great! And when everything is all unified into one package, it will directly go to Cyanogenmod!
And I am really happy to see development of the SGS getting better each day. Far better than a month ago!

havent runned it long enough yet to be able to say anything about battery life. hopefully good if sleeping on low freqs (set to 400 or something with setcpu) and had no probs with games so far atleast.. 3d works fast

shud either flash it over voodoo or a non lagfixed

There is a way to restore the original voodoo?

First thank you very much for your hard work .And how kel ghu said it i will definitly love to see sztupy's Ultimate Lagfix mixed with this awesome kernel and it will be the killer....
Imagine your galaxy s with more cpu power more ram and the Overkill advanced lagfix.... the dream.

the whole point with this kernel is that its based on voodoo sources already using lastufos compilation optimizing.. and hardcore's bigmem.. the other tweaks dosent really make any diffrence ;p if i would make this ULF.. there is already 10 kernels like that.. and i want people to try out new voodoo stuff before supercurio releases a preview or beta but im gonna try add cwm recovery to this to =) tomorrow. its 3am and going to sleep can check on bfs.. but its pretty pointless on android.

wont add in ULF.. theres already prolly 5 kernels with OC+bigmem+ulf+optimizing.. but they all miss voodoo sound and color (when it comes) so here i made one from voodoo sources instead.. will try get in a recovery tomorrow but mix in ULF you could just leech any of those 5 other kernels. will be same anyway =)

[kernel][2.6.29](18th Sep) OC/UV kernel with user configurable UV apk -Voodoo support

Thanks to Leshak , AndSecTest, mimocan, Unhelpful, xan, Supercurio and husq510 for the help.
This project started based on information found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740514
But is has soon revolved into more fixes, patches and hacks. Thanks to all the developers involved and do buy them beers so they can continue to work on the fixes.
I've tested it to work on my phone but i cannot guarantee it will work on yours or if it will damage your phone so use it at your own risk. See known issues below if the problems have been resolved
Primary Features
- ext2/3/4
- Support I/O Scheduling for CFQ (stock), Noop, Deadline and Anticipatory
- Overclock and Undervolt support
- Overclocking for better performance. If you do not want to OC, use SetCPU to set Max at 1Ghz and enable checkbox Set on boot
- User defined Undervolt to save battery especially at lower frequencies. Use Xan's app for easy GUI control - here
- Also use Xan's app to change IO scheduling
- Rooted ADB shell for Android commander compatibility
Requirement
- i9000
- For Eclair 2.1 Only (Will not work on Froyo firmware)
My setup for cross compile without wakeup lag
- Use ct-ng crosstool
- Copy config file from arm-unknown-linux-gnueabi
Download

Changelog
oc120_voodoo_b4.2
- enable CWM support even with voodoo ext4. Caveats: CWM will unmount /data after nandroid backup, you will not be able to remount /data in ext4 until you reboot back to recovery. Also, restore does not work when trying to restore /data.
- fixed check for debug_mode (it used to create logs in /sdcard/Voodoo/logs regardless if you enable*debug in /sdcard/Voodoo/)
oc120_voodoo_b4.1
- BLN patch v4 from neldar (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=772672)
- All credit goes to author
- Signed update.zip format so rename file to update.zip and copy to /sdcard
- use recovery to flash
oc120_voodoo_b4
- updated to voodoo b4 (http://project-voodoo.org) - please read Documentation/FAQ, if you have previous installed Voodoo Beta1, please uninstall before upgrading
- Excludes color patch for later release
- All lagfix credit included in this build goes to Supercurio, please buy him a beer or two so he can continue on working on the project
oc120_voodoo_b3.1
- fixed init.d not working
oc120_voodoo_b3
- remove performance governor from startup cos i9000 dont need that
- added init.d support
oc120_voodoo_b2
- Use stock GPU ~200mhz table
- Voodoo2 lagfix (http://project-voodoo.org) - please read Documentation/FAQ, if you have previous installed Voodoo Beta1, please uninstall before upgrading
- Excludes color patch for later release
- All lagfix credit included in this build goes to Supercurio, please buy him a beer or two so he can continue on working on the project
oc120uv2
- Unhelpful patch for GPU table (http://github.com/Unhelpful/linux-galaxy/commit/5a729d3e2189159a20b00e0c331f0b112490e075)
- Interactive governor (http://github.com/Unhelpful/linux-galaxy/commit/aea72a98a2f261901d6f28f2d1deae3921d35948)
- user configurable UV settings (default value = 0 for UVLF and UVHF) for conservative governor only
- /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/conservative/UVLF_mV (for 100-800mhz)
- /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/conservative/UVHF_mV (above 800mhz)
- for example # echo 50 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/conservative/UVLF_mV (will UV by 50mV for 100-800mhz)
- for example # echo 50 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/conservative/UVHF_mV (will UV by 50mV for 1-1.2ghz)
- Setting increment of 25 (eg 25,50,75,100). Anything out range may hang
- Anything above 100 will be set to 100 (but I doubt you can get 100mV without crashing)
- After setting, do ur benchmarks and if everything is stable, you can add the command above into your init script depending which lagfix you have, add into your script.
Thanks!
Some questions:
1) the first thread about oc mentioned 1.2ghz, was this unstable for you?
2) Is this over-volted, under-volted, or no changes in voltage?
3) I'm guessing if I update to this kernal, I will loose any features of other kernals, like the lag-fix kernal?
I hope you can persuade the other devs to include this in their roms.
It this just for the unbranded SGS or does it work for TMO vibrant too?

it is just a test, i hv not test the limit yet.. this is a new phone so want to take it easy
i kept the voltage stock so just overclock a little and if its stable, will do more . More testing and reading is needed before i touch on the voltage.
it does not include mimocan's mod, i will work on it next release

Do you notice the postive effects of the overclock in any way? What does it do with benchmarks? Also do you test for (temperature) stability with some games as well, as they use the graphics card a lot which is on the same chip. Even when not overclocked the SGS can get prettty warm.
Installs nicely, oc ok to, but dont see that much increase in linpack.
Nice work tho.

Guys, how do I use SetCpu?
Was 1.2ghz unstable?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
interested in this... Allthough the phone does seem to get hot during heavy use, it doesn't get 'too' hot.
I have seen about 47 degrees celcius max read from battery temp (which seems to be cpu temp on our phones as my battery was stone cold)
Hi any possibility get v1 without mimocan.
Got samset including it nd sgs wnt boot cause of mimocan included.
thanks
I am using JM2. Does this make my phone any faster? Does it maked it lag free?
After tested this oc.. i am bit unsure: i get no performance increase... Is it confirmed that its functional?

Stock O/C Kernel 1.7Ghz and CM/MIUI/GB O/C Kernel 1.8Ghz UPDATED 01/09 - Grankin01

First is an O/C kernel that I built from the HTC source. This kernel is stable and with the right profiles setup in setCPU has given me very good battery life. I'm giving coolbho3000 credit here as his post in the G2 forums is what helped me to do this. I am also acknowledging gr8gorilla who helped me several times through this process. Second is a kernel built from the latest CM kernel zource from zinx. It has proven to be very stable (after tweaking the voltages).
Now for the boring part ... If you choose to flash this you do it at your own risk. I am in no way, shape, or form responsible if you flash this and your phone turns into a paperweight. Once again, flash this at your own risk.
There, now that that is out of the way we can get on to the good stuff.
Make sure you choose the right kernel. The stock kernel will break your CM install if you flash it.

These kernels have no issue with video. If you are having trouble with youtube and such update your GB rom to one of the newest. There was a memory leak in the source for the rom itself that zinx has fixed. Thirty to Forty-Five minutes of straight youtube action and I had no problem at all.

I have packaged this into an update.zip format that you can flash through your custom recovery. Simply choose to install a zip from the sdcard and pick the update package to install it. It will install the wifi driver at the same time so you don't need to worry about that. Everything works with this kernel so far for me if you have any problems please post them and I'll see what I can do to fix them.
Remember that you hardware is not the same as your neighbor's so while he may be able to max the settings out and run stable your device may need to be set to a lower clock speed to run stable.
Source code for both kernels has been added to github. If you want to play around with them download source from here: https://github.com/grankin01
Happy Modding/Devving!

Not yet. It will work with the rom that you have installed right now though.
hey guys. im a noob to android. every other phone i have had has been winmo. i wanted to try this oc kernel because it seems easier to install than the gorilla one. however i ran into a problem when installing. i have a stock rom 2.2.1, perm rooted s=off, using clockwork recovery. i backed up my rom and flashed via rom manager. it then began to send me into a boot loop never getting past the first screen. just kept turning off and rebooting. soooooo i rebooted directly into clockwork and tried to do it from there and the same thing happened. so i restored my recovery and now everything is back to normal. can anyone point me in the right direction? i did notice that in clockwork it gave me two options to flash the kernel or to flash an update from the sd card. should i have flashed the update zip instead of the kernel or flash both.. sorry im a partial noob. i know how to use adb a lil and the emulator, this is the first thing i flashed on my phone and nearly had a heart attack from thinking i was bricked! any help is appreciated
Do you already have setCPU installed? Not everyone's phone will be able to reach the maximum speed without bootlooping or locking up. Just the nature of the beast. Try setting your speed down in setCPU (if you already have it installed) and turn set at boot off and then flashing and rebooting. Then you can test the speeds one by one to know what is working for you.

Yes, and O/V's in the higher frequecies for stability. This one was picky.

Only in the lower frequencies. The higher frequencies weren't stable running lower voltages.
Thanks OP. When you say the lower ranges, at which MHz did you not UV? Just curious. I am thinking of not OC'ing more than 1.4MHz and didnt know if I would get the UV benefit.

So here we go folks - GINGERBREAD is upon us!!
Major thanks to Chainfire for his hard work on the CF-Root kernel and of course for providing us the GB code in the first place!
Install requires a restock unless your already on Gingerbread and CF-Root, the guide will walk you through this.
Why Beta1 tag? Simple...it's not done. Gingerbread is SO good I wanted to get it out into your hands as soon as possible. I performed some basic modifications and got a couple additional features functioning (screen off animation? AMAZING on 7" screen!). More features will be coming very very soon! Stay tuned for Beta 2!
PS
A GB Overcome Kernel will be coming in the future, but until we have a source there isn't much I can do in that regard. For now, Overcome releases will use the CF-Root kernel. It provides all the functionality we can hope for at the moment.
just some thoughts
This is an exciting development. It's brought new life to the Tab!
Would it make sense to include the updated (2.3.4) Google Talk client?
What about replacing the stock Music app with Google Music?
Could you include the sip application?
Can I use this release with latin tab P1000N/L

Same as Overcome 1.x series, it will work, but poorly. Some features will be broken. You are probably better off waiting for a proper P1000N/L release (especially since this involves flashing bootloaders)

Nice Work dude .. looks good
Do i need to wipe anything. I already have the stock 2.3.3 installed and would like to flash yours.
First, thanks for your hard work at releasing your version of the new update.
And second, I got one tiny question (it confuse me a bit):
Does the link ( F6D7U1RUHD ) refering to the new gingerbread-based GB-stock-safe.zip is good (GB-stock-safe_v1.zip, 287.36Mb)?
I do ask it cause just behind the link you write "need to change!!!"
Like... A side note for yourself that you have forgot or something.
Dunno if I'm clear enough
Again, Thanks for you work!
Hi. I'm a bit confused about the instructions. If I'm on overcome 1.6.4 now, does it mean I can restock my tab by flashing the gingerbread stock safe file?
I guess when the instructions says stock, it just means the latest stock firmware right?
I was originally under the impression that I had to restock to my original at&t firmware. I guess that's not the case?
Thanks in advance and huge thanks to alterbridge!
Incredible work. I'm about to flash this all over. Looking forward to future releases! Going to donate when I have the chance!

I'm assuming you're referring to the "disappearing" recovery...basically the way Voodoo works, since its designed to support a broad range of devices, is it runs a script to identify exactly which device its running on. This script dumps the partition table from the /dev/block/mmcblk0 and compares it to a list of known dumps. From then, it decides how to set up the file system. If it fails to find a match, it just exits out and goes to samsung init. As a result, you will either 1) boot into the ROM with the RFS file system or 2) boot into stock recovery, because that's what the stock init does.
What I've done is just remove the detection part and hard code it to a particular file system structure. The issue should definitely be resolved now.

Look, theming is really personal preference. Its impossible for us to satisfy everyone's taste. The team thinks that black notification bar rocks so that's that. If you wanna change it to white, you either..
1. Apply stock theme patch

Thanks Alterbridge and Team.
Just installed JUPITER (no wipe) over ICARUS and everthing seems to be working A-1. Love the new boot screen and the ROM is very fast and very smooth!
Just for those that may encounter the same issue:
Had a little anomaly the first time I flashed. All seem to go as it should and everything worked as it should, however, under 'SETTINGS' > 'ABOUT DEVICE', it said that the kernel was 3.3.0 (#79), but the build number was still 3.0.0- Icarus (Also, on initial boot up the boot screen was still the old Icarus screen). So, I repeated the no wipe flash procedure and everything is now working as it should. Correct kernel and build number in settings.
Thus far everything is working A-1 on this super fast and smooth ROM.
Many thanks again to Alterbridge and the Team.

No, it won't. This is supposed to be a unification for all the stuffs that one can unite on the GNex. I will try to create an app to do this along side of improving this script in the future.
TBH with the recent CM episode I felt this is needed even more, screw them all. My script or app won't include things that won't work with CM like what they did, I assure you.

It's fine, the mod is already written in a way that it can handle update like this with ease. If there's actually a new sysfs that isn't exist anywhere else, I will add it if I deem it necessary. If that were not the case I would be in for maintenance hell for every kernel of every dev's update .

You're welcome. I actually wanted to get into kernel dev before but it seems like destiny is a ***** and I am stuck with these, as I am not going able to find enough time to care for my ROM, this mod, the app that I wanted to create and a kernel to add to these. Ranting aside, I'm fine with how things are .
Where is trickster.conf?
Don't understand, I installed the zip, but no trickster.conf appeared in /sdcard...
Ok, probably a dumb question,
But can these literally be used on ANY rom?
Or at least any ICS rom?
For example, would this be useful on a moto atrix running ICS? (CM9 based)
There a few ICS roms for the atrix floating around and I just wanna know if I should share this thread with some of the devs over there?
I do have a G-nex that ive been able to play with over the last couple days, and its sweet! If I flash this mod, are there any noticeable changes right off the bat, or just after imputing a command through terminal?
Thanks, and nice job

Theoretically, it should work anywhere with an ARMv7 CPU and Android 2.3 or higher but this has been tested only on GNex varieties by me and my testers. Still as I wrote this for GNex kernels, this script of course can't change kernel features that this script does not have. Basically I think it should work but with limited functionality, to be sure just nandroid first before applying it. Still I do not support this in anyway so don't come crying to me later if anything happens and I won't answer question regarding this script and other devices further. I do believe it has some values for any device out there, but it needs ppl with some knowledge to tweak it.
