If you mean the one below its in system/app/TouchWiz30Launcher.apk/res/drawable-hdpi and its called mainmenu_icon_application.
Grab a theme or rom that has this launcher included and unzip it with 7zip then go get it.
Is it possible to do that from my phone? Won't it tell me the apk is already installed? My computer is out of comission for a minute

Edit: I was able to extract the file but when I try to set it in launcher pro I can't find it... I can find the folder its in but it doesn't show up
Edit #2: got it just had to run the meddia scanner thanks for the help
No worries, glad it worked.

I was wondering if there was a way, and how to, edit the default app icons, so when opening up the app list or placing one on the home screen, the icon is one other than the original?
Thanks
You would have to change the icon in each apk file.

What rom are you using? Because cm6.1 and 7 nightlies you can pick any picture you want on your desktop only. I think there are some launchers that will let you pick also.

redemptive, but i have launchepro, so I know I can use the feature on that. But what I mean is: I have really nice icons i found, and I use SiMi folder widget. I can't edit the icons in the widget, those are the default ones in the apk. However, i tried editing the apk itself, but it disappeared when i rebooted, which seems to happen a lot.
Did you sign the apk after you got done editing it? Any third party apks will need to be resigned, any stock apks do not.

Last time i tried this using apk manager, it still wouldnt work, but i can give it another shot.
I get to signing it, but from there i try to install and it says "application not installed"
Do I need to uninstall the original apk first or something?

If you use adw or lp, you can do that by long pressing the icon and selecting a custom one. If not, you'll have to theme them

FINALLY I figured out apk manager for image editing!!!
Now my apps dont disappear on reboot and my widgetlocker is sexy again!
Thanks guys
How did you do it? Does it have to be signed?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Download apk manager from the forums...then when you use it on the apk, just extract it, don't decompile it, then drop in your image and zip it as a regular apk, don't recompile, and then sign it...that's it

So i pulled the apk from data/app.
Replaced the icon inside like usual
Put it back to data/app. And it goes missing from the app drawer.
Tried putting it in system/app, and it says Handcent has stopped working.
Something im missing?
Non system apps have to installed, not just pushed. Delete your old one first our you'll get a parse error.

So grab the apk, change the icons, uninstall handcent, push hte apk, INSTALL that new apk from data/app?
Yep. if all your doing is changing icons, why not use nova launcher and do it with no hassles?

I figured id lose some kind of core ics functionality changing to a third party launcher.
Cant get this **** to work at all....
copied the com.handcent....apk file to my pc. Changed the icon.
uninstalled handcent from my phone
Transferred over the com.handcent....apk from pc to /data/app
Ran the apk and installed it, says Application not installed when i try to install it.
Upload the icon and the apk file. I'll help if you like.

Thank you, heres the two icons i want thrown in, theyre both in the drawable-hdpi folder. Thanks. Ones the main icon for the apk. The icon_pink is to overwrite the pink notification choice u can choice as a icon in the app settings.
Does nova change the app drawer icons? If so,how?
I thought it could only change home screen icons

Nova doesn't do app drawer icons, only homescreen. They do keep even after an update though. For OP, there is something odd about this app. Even just decompiling/recompiling with no changes, and the app closes immediately after startup. No errors or anything, and logcat returns no errors. My only advice is to use Nova Launcher- you will not lose one bit of functionaloty or appearance (exactly like stock) and will gain a ton of features.

The short answer is yes. In theory you can use any icon on any app. The trick is putting it all together.
You have two options. You can either create a flashable theme our you could manually replace the icon file in the apk you are wanting to change it on.
The first takes time and know-how. The second requires more time and know-how but is probably easier.
But after looking at those icons I might be seeing if I can get permission to use then in a theme I've been playing around with. No promises but if it works out I'll forward it on.
So say if I want to change it in a theme..I just change them out an flash it?

You download the zip then extract with Root Explorer or similar app. Then the show in Gallery. You can generally use them for homescreen icons and such with s launcher that allows you to edit icons. I actually grabbed the same ones a few days ago and I use Nova launcher so I added some with that

I'm trying to change the icons for apps on my home screen.
I am using the touchwiz and is there any way i can change it without the use of launchers?
There is probably an easier way but if you root you can replace the res/drawable-mdpi/icon.png in each app to whatever you want
I use Icon Changer from the Play Store. Works well and you can use icon packs or "decorate" (as it says in the app) the stock icons. Hope this helps.

Others, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but they are built in to an apk, so you would have to extract the apk, change the icons, and then reconsruct the apk.

I believe you're right. It's been a while since I've decompiled a launcher. In any event, if anyone does need to decompile and recompile an .apk I would recommend elesbb's APK Tool GUI. Makes the whole job very easy. Once you have all of your icon images you should be able to drag and drop them into their appropriate folders and recompile.
Thank you for the replies! I was hopping to be an easy-breeze doing but I guess not... I will try the tool you recommended: ) Wish me luck
