AOSP mmcblk0p3 mount - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have been looking around and trying different AOSP Roms to see if the internal 7gb memory card is properly recognized and mounted and so far I see that none have figured it out except ruby. I hear koush is working on this problem. How far have we gotten on this problem?
I ask this because in still working on my ROM and the internal memory mount is one of the first problems in going to tackle. I also think it would be a good topic of discussion.

I'm using the latest version of ShadowRom and internal memory is mounted.

Really? I'll try that now.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App

Ok let of be more specific. The internal 7gb card.
Shadow ROM does not feature this ability. I just flashed it to see. Nor does any other AOSP ROM I've tried. Haven't tried MIUI though.

Alright I'll try. I know how to mount the internal memory but how bout getting the system to properly recognize it in the settings menu and for apps. Seems that that would require source modification to me for the setting app.

I'm able to read emmc with both Ruby and Cyanogen 6 (nightly 125). Specifically, I can mount to my Mac without issues, but I can also read emmc (internal memory) with all my apps. However, since I have an SLCD, I had to use Koush's test 2 kernel. The only Vanilla ROM that is not allowing me to read emmc from the phone (I can mount the disk on my Mac) is ShadowROM.

Alright. Ruby does have it running. I think I had a boot error the first tme I flashed Ruby... it works. Well the memory does properly mount and have application awareness. However it s still not in the menu. But the issue is only partialy solved. Ill flash mine back over and see what I can do.

Which ROM are you trying? For Ruby I didn't do anything special, just the customary wipe data/cache/dalvik. Only for CM6 I had to go through this ordeal of finding a proper kernel to about boot loops. What menu are you referring to?

It only happened once. I think it was a fluke. Like maybe an improper download.
When you go to settings. Then down to sdcard and storage

Yeah I see that same menu with Ruby, ShadowROM and CM6. That is a bug. However, this is my current status with these 3 AOSP roms
1) Ruby: can read emmc through apps and settings with stock installation
2) CM6 (nightly 125): Since I have an SLCD I had to use Koush's test2 kernel for a successful installation. After that I get everything to work with emmc just like Ruby.
3) ShadowROM: I can only read emmc with Astro file manager. The ringtones and pictures I have in emmc can't be read by Sound Settings (ringtones) or 3D Gallery (pictures).
Again, I really like some of the setting in ShadowROM (i.e. disabling the bootanimation), so hopefully they'll merge the latest CM6 code for their 0.3 release.

Im where shadowrom is then. I can mount the memory manually. Use adb to push to it once mounted. But usb storage mount only shows the external memory card. Im just trying to get it to memory and read once mounted. I can take care of the settngs menu latter.
I guess my problem now is getting applications to be aware of the manually mounted memory. Besides file managers. Hmm.

So besides using koushs vold.fstab what other things might need to be done to allow mmcblk0p3 to mount at boot.

don´t know how but it works. I´ve 900mb internal space free
I'll give it a whirl. Looks like he's using data2whatever to move the data to the sd-ext partition. I'm going to set it up on an 8gb SanDisk and see how it runs. Maybe that's a better way to keep junk on the SD.
Also, is there a reason that we shouldn't use Alquez's CWM-port to partition the SD? It seems like it's doing the same thing (creating a ext3 partition with no swap file).

you don't have to root, but you do have to be S-OFF. The ROM is what carries the root, so if you follow his directions you will get a rooted ROM, but you don't need to be rooted to install the ROM. If you are S-ON it will fail.

Is there a list of changes or is this a game of hide and seek, because I am fine installing it and searching for what's new. Also, can this be installed right over the other one?
Thanks for the ROM, pretty awesome speed and great usefulness. I'm going to run a Quadrant on it too.
Also, my sensors don't work on it. I think this is a problem with all of these ROMs though. Maybe I broke them by installing a non USA ROM, who knows. The only sensors working are proximity and light.
Thanks!
Also why don't you move this to the Android Development section because it's a ROM that's doing it, not a tweak or tip.
Updated: Wipe all then install
did, thanks for the feedback. I'm running setup and market sync right now.
Is your orientation and magnetic sensor working? Mine aren't and I'm not sure what the problem could be. I might have to go back to stock just to make sure they still work there.
This is still in beta test. How do you test sensors?
Here is what I'm doing to test the sensors:
1) rotate phone at desktop
2) rotate phone with Camera app running
3) rotate phone while watching YouTube
4) install Sensor Test app from Market and check status
5) install elixir and use sensor testing function
all of these result in no data from the sensors, though it does show that they exist. Just no information. Seems like a kernel problem, but I'm not sure.
What is new in the new version? Or what you fixed? I didn't see any major bugs.

Must be a faulty phone, mine doesn't have problems, I downloaded 2nd search sensor test app all are working. numbers changing.
It's working well on my phone, so far everything appears to be working ok.
I've removed a few apps that I don't need like stocks & news etc.

[Q] Internal storage on tommytomatoes Classic Rom

I'd love to post directly to the thread in the developers section to ask this, but until then, can someone testing The Classic v0.0.9 let us know how internal storage is with the latest update?
I'm currently on Classic v0.0.6 with a substantial number of apps moved to SD card with Apps2SD Pro, and still only have about 47 mb of available space in Internal Storage. Just wondering if the latest version has more/less/or about the same amount of internal storage than v0.0.6?
Thanks

I'm running 0.0.9 and have a ton of free storage, however I'm using dta2sd on a partitioned SD card. I'm not familiar with apps2sd pro.
sent using a freaking pigeon, with a note tied to its leg.
Apps2SD Pro just moves part of the app. Data and cache still stay in the internal storage of the phone for the apps. If you use a lot of apps you may want to partitioned your sd card and flash dta2sd. This way the app and data will be moved to sd partition. You can even move the cache if needed. Hope that helps.
I wasn't familiar with dta2sd. Just read some posts stating that this rom already has it. Should I move the apps back to phone using Apps2SD, uninstall Apps2SD, then move to apps back again with dta2sd?

Is your sd card partitioned? If not you must do so to use dta2sd. Just make sure to backup all data from your sd card to your pc before doing so.

Then all you need to do is go into terminal emulator. Type su. Then type a2sd reinstall. This will activate A2SD and move your apps and data to the sd partition. This is if the rom you have has a2sd baked in already. If not you will need to flash it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715938
Thanks, this worked for me as well!
I'm not sure if it's related, but after flashing DT a2sd, I was able to reinstall the google search box widget on Classic Rom. For some reason, I kept getting errors about a month or 2 ago. So I tried to uninstall/reinstall. For the past month or so, when tried to reinstall/download from Play, I kept getting error message.
Thanks again for this recommendation on a2sd.

[Q] Link2SD not recognizing 2nd SD partition (Epic 4G Touch)

Relatively new Android user, running stock EL29 Gingerbread rooted with ClockworkMod on a Samsung Epic 4G Touch (Sprint). I have had major problems with my phone continually rebooting which I'm pretty sure I've confirmed is due to having too many apps moved to the external SD card with the stock App2SD command.
I've read that the only workaround for this is to use Link2SD with a second external SD card partition. I have been trying for many hours to get this working, but Link2SD will never recognize my second partition. I've tried many different options with formatting the external SD card, but nothing ever works.
I've found some posts on this site by d12unk13astard that I read to indicate that Link2SD won't work on the Epic 4G Touch because of the way the internal memory is formatted on this phone. Can anyone confirm that Link2SD can or cannot be used on the Epic 4G Touch? If it can, any idea how I can get it to recognize my 2nd partition? Any help is VERY MUCH appreciated!
I talked to the guy who made link2sd and gave him a logcat of a command he wanted me to type in terminal, still waiting on a confirmation or solution to this problem as well. I would suggest you also ask about this in the Android section of xda under apps/games. Hopefully an update to link2sd will fix our issue were having.

Heres a couple pics proving why this app has not been working for our phones(epic 4g touch)
As I thought, link2sd can only see our internal memory card that Samsung has put in our phones mounted as /sdcard. Instead of our external sdcard which has the 2nd partition needed for link2sd to work.
Since the internal memory being mounted as /sdcard cant be partitioned link2sd fails to work. As you can see it fails to see my external 32GB class 10 sdcard on link2sd app.

Insufficient storage Link2SD error?

I'm not sure what the problem is here. I'm running CM9A6 via the RobotoMod 1.0.2 ROM, and I couldn't get the default S2E to work at all. I installed link2SD as a workaround, and while I know it has it's limitations, I can't determine why it won't link an app.
I downloaded Where's my Perry? for my kids, and due to it's size (50+ MB), I wanted to get it out of my internal storage. It isn't working, though - link2SD is throwing an error saying there's "insufficient storage". I'll let the screenshots speak for themselves:

Perry?free is already on the SDCard. You are trying to install it to internal memory and then getting Link2SD to link it back to the SDCard. As you only have 51.18MB free on your internal storage and Perry?free is 52.73MB it won't work. Leave it where it is.

Hi,
For CM9, use Ext4 on 2nd partition on SDcard. Do you have it?.
Link2sd was working fine with me when I had CM9Alpha7. Try only with Link2sd(don't have multiple SDcard apps).
Select 'Autolink' on Link2sd settings. If you do right, all apps will be installed on SD card.

2nd part is formatted Ext2. It works fine other than this one program, and I have it configured to install to SD.
I'll try linking just the dalvik-cache and library, and see if that works, leaving the app on the SD card.

If you bothered to look at the images provided by the OP, you will see that Link2SD is working fine. Changing the partition to Ext4 will not magically create more internal space.
See tats the problem wit link2sd. I used it for a long time after using data2sd. Now I'm back to daya2sd. It may boot slower but it gives u happiness.

Cannot See External (Micro) SD Card

Hey guys,
Just got my new microSD card (64GB) and when I went to put it in the S3, it said that it was damaged and needed to be formatted. Formatting didn't work on the phone so I read up on the issue and someone suggested formatting it with EaseUS Partition tool. Did so ... formatted to FAT32. When I then insert into the phone, no issues ... or at least no warnings.
Put on a test video file and insert into the phone and use Root Explorer to go to external_sd in the root menu ... nothing shows up.
Any thoughts?
AOKP JB Milestone 1
I'm not completely sure about this but I think the 64gb cards need to be formatted as exFat, which I believe only stock touchwiz kernels support. So if I'm right you can't use it with an aokp or CM rom. Like I said though, I'm not totally sure about it.

Found a solution.
1. Download and install EaseUS Partition Master (http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm). I used the Home Edition. One slight thing to note is that EaseUS asks you for a series of things to do to the SD card before it actually does them. So you tell it to delete a partition, create a partition, format it a specific way and THEN you apply all the actions and it runs it like a batch file.
2. Delete any existing partitions on the SD card.

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. Create a partition
4. Create the partition as the Primary Partition and set the File System as FAT32
5. Apply the changes
6. Choose Yes
You should now be able to plug the MicroSD card into your S3 and have it recognized. If you are using Root Explorer, you can find your external SD card in the root menu under ... you guessed it ... external_sd.
Hope this helps. Cheers
Thanks for posting your solution! Definately good to know you can use the 64gb card this way. Could've sworn id seen folks say it had to be exFat, but I'm glad you put that rest for me!
Just to be sure though, you can see the full available storage correctly?
Thanks again and glad you got it figured out.

Yes, I can see the full available storage capacity. It currently shows as 249.88MB used (2 video files) and 59.22GB free. The missing space is normal due to the drive manufacturers claiming larger capacities than is actually usable.
Not to thread jack or anything, I figured it was relevant to the topic instead of making a new one. I'm having the same exact issue, except my card isn't 64gb its only 4gb. I formatted to fat32 and the phone acts like it wants to load, but Doesn't do anything.
Any idea or suggestions? Should I change to the stock kernel? I'm on liquid smooth rc7 btw.

You could give that a shot, but I can't think of any kernel not supoirting fat32.
You could also try using the sd formatter tool from www.sdcard.org
Or try what the op did to get his 64gb card working.
