[Q] offset charger cable - Captivate Accessories

Has anyone seen a U-shaped USB head, such that the charger cable can be directed downward from the charge port. I have bent and taped mine original charger cable but it looks a bit clunky. Seems like all Galaxy owners would be interested in this 50 cent item.

Not sure about U-shaped. But there are plenty of right angled micro USB cables out there.

Loose Micro HDMI Cable

I ordered an Amzer Micro HDMI cable for my Evo a few days ago, and it works and all, but if the cable wiggles around a little bit, it disconnects and reconnects shortly after. The cable does feel very loose in the port (much looser than the MicroUSB cables feel in the charge connector).
Has anyone else had this problem with their Evo, or has anyone found a solution (like a different brand of HDMI cable that works better)?
I ordered the same one last week. No word on when it will ship though. I'll let you know if my cable is loose when I get it.
I am having the same problem with the Amzer HDMI cable. I would have to push the cable downwards in order to get the video to play. If I wiggled it or pushed it up, the picture would be lost. I will replace it once I get fed up with the cable.
I don't know about the amazon cable, but I did order the HDMI cable from the same guy who sold the two batteries and wall charger for 10 bucks on eBay. When I played around with the cable it did feel loose. But when I forced the plug into the phone it went in further and made a solid connection.
Don't know if that will work for you guys too
I had this issue with my OEM micro-usb. I bought 6 more USB cables ranging from 3ft - 10ft... they work fine now. Check the actual cable to see if the pins move around, that may be the issue... aka poor construction

I have exactly the same issue with the cable I got from Monoprice. I couldn't hold the phone and move it around as it would intermittently disconnect. But if I set the phone down the connection stayed throughout.
Before you guys get all up in arms I have the "official" HDMI cable from Sprint and it is loose too. Its the socket not the cable. I'm on my second EVO and they were both the same way, loose.
anyone else have this problem? I have the monoprice cable and the connection is flaky. My EVO is only 2 weeks old.
Same thing here with monoprice cables. It isn't 100% the socket though, as my buddy's cable works perfectly fine in my evo. Don't know where he got his, but will find out.

micro female/male hdmi and usb for Lapdock

I bought these on ebay. The HDMI is short but worked but when I connect both cables to lapdock, the USB is not being recognized so the keyboard/mouse is not working. I want this just to act as an extension so I can use full lapdock abilities with cables. Any idea what's going on (cable charges on plug but does not charge on lapdock)? Maybe someone has better usb cables.

From your title I've been looking for these (or similar) cables for a long time and have been unsuccessful. However I have yet to try them.

i don't think it will work either way, tried a few things like this with no avail.
why wouldn't they? Cheap build quality that doesn't include the data wires? Hell I'll be willing to splice two cables together to get our desired effect, the only problem is that cords with a female micro usb are incredibly hard to come by
So that is what you think it is? No data on the usb cables.

the only reason that is my suspicion is because there are many "charging" products out there that don't really need data. Why there would be a need for such a small charging extension cable is beyond me, but it's the only solution I can think of, but I have no way of confirming or denying it either. The ebay descriptions seem to imply that the data wires are there, but we all know how reliable ebay can be...
Another idea I had was that it might be sensing the resistance in the cable, since, if I remember correctly, that was how some think/though the car dock puts the atrix into car mode without a magnet as is/was commonly used. Again these are just ideas.
Or the cable is just so poorly made that it's defective...I honestly have no clue
Has anyone got full lapdock capabilities using extension cables? I can only get the screen working and not the mouse and keyboard.
The HDMI extender was the hard one to find. There are other micro USB extenders out there, theoretically with all wires connected....

Kind of makes me wish i hadn't hacked up my lapdock to work with the Otterbox
Where did you get your HDMI extender? I got mine from All4Cellular but it's quite short. Will have to get another HDMI one if the usb cable you recommended works.

before I read that post, I was looking around the forums and the web yesterday well into the night. here are some of the things I've found that might be relevant to everyone (and it might possibly be cheaper, though more diy).
Micro USB stuff:
I have no idea why this exists http://www.dealextreme.com/p/micro-...r-cable-for-blackberry-9900-black-30cm-107901
I have no idea why this only has 4 pins http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9614

Here's what I am thinking about doing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/140626354628#ht_2821wt_1177 or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-HDMI-...ultDomain_0&hash=item415eac6dc0#ht_2821wt_980
http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Female-M...YPB4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1329854686&sr=8-2
then the hdmi cable that came with our phone:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Stan...QTA8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1329854856&sr=8-8
The HDMI certainly looks like it may work but the reason I didn't buy that product from ebay a few weeks ago was because it was $50. Now miraculously, it's only $6. Maybe I'll get that if the USB cable I just bought that was suggested works a few posts back.

This micro usb extension cord explicitly states that all 5 wires are connected (compatible with droid bionic for the purpose of docking with a case on the phone):

I bought the HDMI extension cable and the USB cable above. I have a lapdock so I'll post if it works.
everything asked/answered in here is already covered in the original thread:

The HDMI cable seems to work. On the lapdock, with just the HDMI cable hooked up, it functions like it was it's an entertainment center.
The USB cord will need to be modified a little bit. I can't get it to seat right on the USB jack of the dock. I'll need to shave it down a bit as it doesn't sit down snugly.

I ordered the USB cable and experience this same problem, though I am waiting for my hdmi parts to come in (by April 6th I should have all my parts...). The cable itself works flawlessly as a micro usb extension cable when connecting it to the computer.
again as mentioned in the other thread, you want to be careful with the 5v coming out that micro hdmi port. for connecting back to your phone would be no issue, as the phone charges using this voltage, but hooking the lapdocks micro usb up to a host device probably wont appreciate the 5v coming back up the cable, where normally the usb device would be pulling power from said host, not providing it.
one suggestion is to just clip the red wire inside your micro usb cable/adapter.
btw the adapters i use do fit snugly side by side, without modification.
I've been following this thread for a little while now, and I wanted to share something I found.
I was looking at the Motorola Travel Webtop adapter. And I was curious to see whether it could be tweaked to suite our needs. I naively thought/hoped that I could flip the connectors in the device to make a small adapter to connect the Atrix to newer Lapdocks. Unfortunately as you can see in the pictures below (sorry not enough posts to link to the pictures) the two connectors are connected via a PCB not wires or a ribbon cable. Although I still have high hopes that I can de-solder the HDMI and USB connectors, and use a small length of flat ribbon cable to connect them and then re-positions the connectors in the case, to build a micro adapter to use the Atrix on the newer Lapdocks. Should this fail this will at least prevent others from making the same mistake, and solve the mystery of what's really inside the Webtop Travel adapter.
Do any one know if this Micro HDMI Cable would work for Lapdock.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Feet-HDMI...s_Adapters&hash=item416612cecb#ht_1149wt_1187
Description says for Asus tf201 MEMO ME171.
I believe all Cables are standard. Can this used to Atrix 4g with Lapdock?
I have otterbox case for Atrix and don't want to Remove cover everytime to plug in Lapdock.

Does this difference make a difference in charging?

I've noticed that on the micro USB that comes with the S3 there are connection prongs on both sides of the connector that goues into the phone. There are only prongs on one side on every other micro USB I've seen.
I still have the full size USB to micro USB cable that came with my old Evo 3d that has the 2 prongs like the others. So I tried using it on the S3 and it seemed to charge much slower than the 4 prong cable that came with the S3. Are any car chargers made with the 4 prongs instead of two? Right now I'm using the Evo 3d car charger and it doesn't charge the S3 worth a crap.

USB 'B' to USB 'micro b'

I'm looking for a USB 'B' (the one that looks like a square) to micro to connect my s3 to a DAC. I know that there a micro to female USB, and USB A->B, but I'd rather not have to deal with all that for convince. Is there anywhere I can get the cable I'm looking for?
Or if anyone knows where I can get the 2 connectors I could make it myself, but I haven't found someone who sells decently priced USB connectors.
For the DIY soldering required end of things check out SparkFun https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9614 (the have other parts as well).
I got some from E-bay a while back as well. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140737641542&ssPageName=ADME:L:eek:C:US:3160
For all things cable related the answer is usually http://www.monoprice.com/. The definitive supplier of good quality reasonably priced cables.
I cant find any such cable, why not just use the converter cables?
all you need is a male micro to female usb type a and you can use your regular usb male a to usb male b cable
you can get it pretty cheap on amazon
you can try to make your own, if you already have these spare cables you will have to sacrifice them
here are the pin diagrams http://www.allpinouts.org/index.php/USB_-_Universal_Serial_Bus (the 11 pin micro usb model is used for hdmi out)
you might want to read through this thread as well as it asking the same thing you want (just a mini-b instead of b)
http://www.head-fi.org/t/628374/samsung-galaxy-s3-to-dac-usb-micro-b-male-to-mini-b-male
Hooking one end of a USB cable type to another end is uber easy.
Just splice the four wires together.
Tape it up if you don't solder.
Otherwise, the Headfi link posted above is a good start. Those guys are always looking up weird ways to hook up the phone to a DAC. Here's another good thread where I remember someone looking for something similar to what you are. It's buried deep in a zillion page thread though.

Left-angle USB adapter

I like to use my One in landscape mode in my car, but I didn't like the long USB plug sticking out of the right side. I didn't like the way it looked, and it seemed like it would put too much stress on the port. There are a ton of adapters with different male and female ends, but it was tough to find an adapter with both male and female micro USB connections. I found one at last on eBay, and it costs less than $2.50. It's a 5-pin cable, so the phone detects it as a charger connection.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/310712123304
If you're like me and want to use your One in landscape mode with the charging port on the right side, this is the one you need!
