howzit everyone
i just wanted to know
is it possible that even when apps are uninstalled it does not completely remove them from the internal memory/sd card. where it was installed?
coz since i got my desire.i've tried alot of apps before froyo and even after which install to internal memory as default?
so i was just thinking.if it does not remove completely all files ans stuff
mayb its a good idea to do a hard reset and reinstalled only the apps i have currently on my phone and use only again?
that should leave internal memory with mayb i hope 10mb more than current?

hi to everyone.
plz plz if any body can help me m going to become mad installing and uninstalling apps on htc desire due to low memory msg.
what i have done yet.
1.i while putin rooted official htc rom with busybox, did partition of the sd card and updated the partition to ext 2then to ext3 during the process(dont exactly remember the process name) .
2.then had app 2 sd application from market, i moved applications to sdcard but the phone memory still went down.
3.then i changed the setinstalllocation on phone through adb shell to sdcard for full apps installation to sdcard but still the phone memory goes down.
4. i also used the default apps tranfer to sdcard in froyo 2.2 but no change of low memory msg
i have literally uninstalled every new app, one or two has remained and to avoid low phone memory msg i have just kept at 15mb free.
what i do???? i am becoming mad plz help me anyone.
millions of thanks for anyhelp.
should i use rom manager for partitioning the memory card again or gparted live cd.
I don't know if someone bothered to tell you but the apps don't move completely on the sdcard. For example I use the froyo apps2sd because my card went dead 10+ times when partitioned. The google earth app is 22MB and when I "move" it to sdcard it gets to the astonishing 16MB on the main memory.
If you wish, partition the card with rom manager, do a full wipe, then try to insall the apps again and see how it goes. I hope you will be lucky
thanks for the reply freakzone,
actually whatever way i have used, the application does show that the file has moved to sdcard, the app memory itself also changes but overall the phone memory is the same with no change.and low memory msg on top.
you mean partitioning sdcard is risky should i give it a try???
It might work for you, try it, but make sure you make a backup, mine died many times
thanks alot dear, will do it when the emergency in ward gets over..
Hello
is there a way to free space on the internal memory ?
i have something like 17 mb left which is not enough in my opinion
i havent rooted or anything, latest official rom from htc is installed and all apps that support installing on sd card are on it.
Delete apps
No other way other than to go custom and use a ROM with A2SD+

))) Try moving what you can to sd. Or root and move everything.
hmmm ok.
thx, hoped there would be some other method, the lack of internal memory sucks
I suggest you install DiskUsage from the Market. The app shows you the .apk's on the internal storage and the size of the data connected. Click on a data position (preferably "Cache") and then Menu > Show and you are in the Settings > Applications > Manage Apps section of the phone at the respective app. You then can delete the cache data. (I would suggest that you don't touch the system apps, but your downloaded apps only.) Some apps really gather lots of data by the time, which you can easily delete, like EStrongs File Explorer.
You can also deinstall your email accounts and re-install them. This will also free a lot of internal storage. And, of course, you can go into the settings menu of the internet browser and delete all cache there.
Furthermore, under Froyo, you can use the ADB setInstallLocation (search for it in the General Topics section) command in order to shift really most apps to the SD card.
I hope this helps.
thanks
sad thing is i have done most of those things so it seems i have to possibilities, either being stuck with low storage or root and move apps to sd card.
hey
thanks again for your help.
rooted my phone and went the setinstalllocations way.
now got 28 mb free on internal which is far less than i expected. but at least i can now install all apps on sd.
strange thing: moved a 26 mb big app to sd but it doas not seem to free 26 mb of storage.
htc should make slimmer roms
Backup all your apps, reset the phone and reinstall all over. It will probably take you 30 mins and will free up way more memory. I usually do it once a month if I install/uninstall a lot of apps. There is a stupid memoryleak somewhere...at least on my phone there is.
I realize this is probably a stupid question but its something I have constantly been wondering. As a new rooter I have been experimenting with a lot of new ROMs and each time i go through and move the big apps to the sd card. Now when I do a full wipe to install a new ROM, those apps get removed from my sd card yea? My sd card seems fuller than it shows and I'm wondering if this is the case or not? Thanks

When you save an app to the sd card, you are caching a portion of the app there so it sort of dual boots the app. It puts less load on the phone's memory this way. It's kinda like caching songs on Google Music Beta for offline playback in this respect. When you flash a new rom the cached app files are deleted from use, but some miscellaneous files may remain. This may be the cause of you seeing that your memory seems bulkier than before and the files can be deleted easily without harm to your phone. Just be sure of what you're deleting before you do so.
Hi there,
I have this problem. I did noticed it just now.my phone keeps informing me there is not enough space in phone.i uninstalled few apps imstaled few other apps and so on so on.now i have only 16 Mb left.i noticed it on last app.i tried a few apps and games but after uninstallong them(via settings/manage applications) not all of the storage they have occupied have been gained aftwr uninstal.so basically some storage was lost somewhere.i cannot find any apps related files on phone and also they are write protected folders on phone memory(this is becasue i have NO root i guess).so i cannot delete the leftovers.what to do now?how to get the storage back? is this common issue? Also i have an issue that i cannot install/update apps on sd card. I have to install/move-then-update them on phone memory and then move them to sd card.for eg Mapdroyd cannot be installed.it keeps saying "could not install on usb storage or sd card" or smthng like that.i have to unmount the sd install it and then move it manually.
I am using stock 2.2.
I am considering an factory reset but i want to fix it if possible and prevent in future.
Any advice?

I had exactly the same problem with my son's Wildfire, but as I had already rooted and installed a custom ROM on my Desire to solve the same issue i was keen to root the Wildfire too. The procedure is painless (Revolutionary is a Noob friendly semi-automated process - search in the Android Development thread). I used Deep Knights ROM and now have 133Mb free space after loading loads of apps and games. Take the plunge!
Hi, I flashed JJ's Hybrid Rom yesterday, and ofc did a full wipe(not memory card)
and started installing apps(manually)
I just want to know, are the old apps still there? in the memory card? ..I dont need them, but are those apps which were 'copied(installed) on mem card' still there?
if so, then how do I remove them?..(obviously they are just using the space for nothing)
