Hey everyone,
I've been searching and reading lots of threads and haven't found one that seems to address the problem I'm having.
So I have a Tilt 2 currently with NRGZ28's Energy Oct 20 ROM (installed earlier this evening). The problem is that I can't seem to transfer large (let's say 5MB+) files over instant messaging apps (AIM, Yahoo, MSN/Windows Live) or via FTP without having the file either fail with an error, or just sitting there with the completion time climbing higher and higher.
When I check Windows 7's Task Manager and click on the Networking tab, there's no bandwidth usage at that point. I can still send and receive IMs on all the networks at once, Outlook is still functional, web pages still load, but the files just won't move.
I have a similar problem when trying to view videos on Hulu. YouTube and other sites do better, but they stop to buffer far too often to make it fun. Even with 360p videos on YouTube, it stops quite a bit.
My signal strength shows 4 bars and H (3G).
I have the latest radio ROM for AT&T. I previously was using the factory ROM and thought updating the radio might help, but it seemed to make no difference.
Possibly related to this:
I have a laptop and a desktop. When I use the WiFi router app with this ROM, the laptop connects to it without problems, but the desktop, which has a Realtek Wireless N USB adapter, sees it, connects, and then most of the time has no Internet access. Even with the laptop turned off. The adapter is set for DHCP and all the usual default stuff, but it lists the gateway as being 192.168.1.2 or .0.1 (I forget which now), when the laptop lists .1.1.. A few weeks back, I could have both connected to the WiFi router in the phone without problems, and even copy files between the computers. Now the desktop works right about 1 in 10 attempts but works fine using the Phone As Modem thing with a USB connection.
But even using the USB connection, I still have the exact buffering or not loading at all, or not transferring files problem.
I found that using Total Commander on the phone, I can connect to my FTP server and upload a 35MB (the only one I tested) file very quickly without any problems. So the problem appears to be with tethering of any kind.
Speedtest.net usually reports about 1.0 or 1.1mbps incoming and about .3mbps outgoing.
I'm using MediaNet for the connection and have used most of the Energy releases over the past 5-6 months. I also ran Task29 several updates back. I haven't since, but I didn't see any difference before running it (probably 10 ROM updates) and then maybe 5 after running it.
I'm in Orlando, Florida and when downloading from various servers, I usually get 350K/sec, give or take. I can't understand how that's not enough to watch 360p YouTube videos. Sometimes they'll buffer just far enough ahead to not be a problem, othertimes I'm not so lucky and have to pause for 30 seconds to get a minute of video buffered.
The desktop is a Q6600 with 8 gigs of RAM and Win 7 Ultimate, the laptop is an AMD 2GHz with 4 gigs of RAM and Win 7 Home Premium.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Eric
Anyone?
I also just found I couldn't upload a 30 meg video to Facebook (I assume that's over HTTP port 80). I got about 10 megs out and then it just stopped transferring. Task Manager Networking was dead and time remaining kept climbing, but there was no timeout.
So it doesn't seem to be related to ports, but more so with outgoing data and tethering. And I have the same problems with USB or WiFi tethering..
Thanks!
Eric
Anyone?
Bump?
I just did a test on speedtest.net to Wichita (that's what it detects is closest, not that it's anywhere near Orlando).. Download was 1.93, though it seemed to sit around 1.8 megabits/sec during most of it. But these timeouts are still a problem. I really could use some advice here
Thanks,
Eric

BT - WIFI interfirence
Try this on your Excalibur:
Establish connection with BT headset
Dial voice number
Activate WIFI at the same time
Did you hear any crackling and noise in your BT headset?
i'll try this a bit later when i get the chance, but isn't it common to have some interference if data is transmitting for both since they're both operating on 2.4ghz? also, what headset are you using? bt 1.2 should be better than 1.1

Well, I don't have this problem with TyTn.
I've tried Nokia BH 900 and Jabra JX10 - both 2.0
I'm glad i saw this thread. I'm having the same issue. I cannot stream music to my motorola ht820 bluetooth stereo headset if i use wifi. It just keeps stopping and freaks out on me. I was having issues streaming videos to my dash via wifi and using the headset also. I could not stream 100kbps videos over wifi! I thought the phone just wasn't powerful enough. (although it's not.. I could stream 300kbps videos on my old hp 3615 via wifi fine.)
I just was able to stream a video at 300kbps fine without bluetooth turned on using wifi and it worked fine. Grr!!
BT and wifi both use the same frequency.
I think you shoud try an other channel for the wifi. It may solve your problem.
Wifi how do you set IPs/DNS info?
did i over look something i can't figure out how to set IP, DNS and Subnet for my phone. I've gone to every connection screen did i over look something?
Internet via WiFi - Wireless Access Points Only
I am not subscribing to the data service on my cellular net. I only want to be able to access the net and email when I am in range of my WAP at home/work or at my favorite hot spots. I've got the WiFi settings so that I am connecting to my WAP and can see the SSID when it connects.. I've tried adjusting the settings in the IE options and am at the point where once in a while (1 out of 8 or so ) I can open access one page of a web site.. but can not navigate any further. If I type a different URL in it says locating and loading then times out.... what did I miss???
T-Mobile Dash / Re-ROM-ed to Excaliber.
All other functions seem to be OK.
Thanks, XmP
I've seen this as well. Playing around earlier today, I installed Opera Mini. Opera works fine over wifi or edge. I believe that the issue involves one or more IE bugs involving either the size (fragmentation?) of cache and/or scripts.
Also, Opera Mini isn't a solution (yet) either. It works great once installed and launched from the installer - but has to be uninstaller and reinstalled to work after you exit.
I can't wait for a linux port
I run into this problem all the time at my college and at my home. I turn on my wifi and the phone defaults to the network instead of wifi. I am on cingular with the 8125, I was using I/S PL 1.08 i just updated to cingular rom 2.24.10.1 WWE. I have tried IE, Opera, Mozilla (Minimo) and another i forget the name of. In all I preferred Opera but I feel Mozilla will be the best once the bugs are gone.
Oh yah and when I try and connect to the wifi network at my school they require a redirect to login through bluesocket. That is just too difficult for my little wizard and I rarely get through that system.
External antenna jack on Excaliber/Dash... is it just for GSM? or also WiFi?
Anyone had experience with the external antenna jack on the back of the Dash (under the mirror button)? Just wondering if using this connector would improve performance on WiFi? or is it designed only for GSM reception?
I found a cable which fits the connector perfectly. Thanks for your responses.
Issue solved!
I rebooted my wireless router and everything works great...
Bump!
I'm guessing the absence of answers means that the settings cannot be changed (or may need a reg hack to do so) - I can't find them anywhere either...
so it works for an external wifi as well?
yes, it is possible to change these settings (or at least the IP adress). I have read about it, but can't remeber where. It's possible to chnge it somewhere in the registry, can't be changed directly through settings. If I find it, where I read about it, I will post it here ...
As I remember the external is designed for car holder external antenna, not for WiFi. You may find at most of the GSM mobile back also have this.
This was posted over at howardforums too. What, you didn't search the internet endlessly to find an answer?
Above poster is correct, it's for GSM only. Like I said over at HoFo, unless you're lost in the backwoods, I don't think it's going to help much. Plus, it looks a tad silly!
Thanks for all your responses. Yeah, I posted the question in a couple of forums (the level of expertise varies widely, as you know!).
Reason I asked... we want to be able to access realtime weather conditions while at a remote nature facility on a barrier island here on the West Coast of Florida -- you know, like hurricanes There is a weak WiFi signal from an access point about 1/4 mile away. I simply wanted to establish a stronger link by using an external antenna.
So although it might have looked silly, it was to be a quick fix for instant weather updates (like radar), when needed.
Wifi connection sloooow. For you also?
Hi, with my stock htc s620, establishing a connection to a wifi network that is already saved (home & work), takes around 1 to 2 mins.
What often happens also is that it goes to sleep before even connecting (with me waiting in IE or mail to clic on a favorite or do a send & receive action).
I can't understand this since a nokia n80 will take seconds and it's almost instantaneous on my macbook.
Are there any tricks or software that can accelerate this (unless I'm the only one to have this problem)?
Seems to be a problem of your hardware or a configuration problem. I have energy save mode enabled and usually it takes two or three seconds to connect, sometimes up to ten seconds, if it has extremly low WiFi-Signal.
interesting, I'm going to investigate on the software part first... You really think it could be a hardware issue?
What's sure is that once the connection is established, it's fast and doesn't drop.
BTW, do you mean seconds after the handset is waken up from sleep?
Hum, after looking in my Remove section on my handset, nothing appears, is there some kind of registry cleaner for smartphone?
Up until the official AT&T release of WM6 I have been able to use Slingplayer Mobile on my 8525 (both WiFi and over the AT&T network). I recently updated to VP3g's latest. I am able to work fine over local WiFi, but not over the AT&T network. My thoughts are the it's part of the AT&T crack down on MediaMax users (which I am). I don't use it that much over the network, but was wondering if anyone else has this issue since upgrading to the 'official' release.
I have read on other forums that other users are having the same issue. Basically, when working over the network, I get to the 'Starting' and notice that the indicator goes from H to 3G after a few seconds...and then the message pops up.
Everything else seems to work fine, tho I don't have as much program space (20 MB vs 27 MB) as I did on VP3g's 3.0 version.

I use slingplayer with vp3g's newest rom. works no problem.
I have MediaMax too. wap.cingular works fine.
Run the disable proxy cab and try it then...
And make sure that your My ISP is set to wap.cingular with [email protected] pw. (for the mediamax workaround without using the MediaNet connection(which I believe has a built in proxy)).
But try the disable proxy...
Thank you for the response. I did try the disable proxy with no change in the result (it installs successfully, but Sling does not work).
I was not implying that it was anything to do with VP3G's version of the new OS...I'm sure it's something that I forgot to do.
I was thinking it might have to do with a recent upgrade from DSL Ultra to Xtreme (where you have a dedicated IP address)...so today I performed the Slingplayer internet access setup again. Tried to access via the AT&T network with the same results...
Locating
Connecting
Starting...
Starting...
Then after about 5 to 10 seconds it goes from H to 3G and and back to H and I get the SlingPlayer popup that says 'Cannot continue streaming due to weak connection. Please try again later.'
I have 3 bars, so I don't think it's the signal...I wonder if something needs to be setup on the DSL modem now that it has a dedicated IP address...
Thank you again for any suggestions.

Having a static IP should not change your upload speed on DSL. It does however mean that you don't have to enter the million digit finder id for the slingbox anymore, just put in your static ip with the proper port.
Have you always been in the same place when this happened? Always at home perhaps? or work? I'm thinking that it might be a tower issue....hmmm
You of course can use PIE and get on the internet no prob right?
Two bars of signal should be fine, I've gotten it to work on one bar of EDGE before (awful quality, and choppy) so it should work great with that strength..,,,
OK. Try this. From your house try to get on (from the 8525) and see if
1) Network lights on slinglink flash(if you have one)
2) Red lights on the slingbox come on/flash (red network should flash I believe; red led on the "u" should come on if connected
Sounds like you are connecting to the box, but losing connection after the handshake.
Go to www.dslreports.com and do an uplink speed test from your home network. Gotta rule out everything....
Hope this helps.
I had the same problem, but upgraded my slingbox to the next build and it is working again. I'm using a PC, and when I loaded slingbox on my pc it said a new version is available.
I've found someone with the same problem!!
My XDA orbit with WM6 slings fine within my home wifi network but doesn't work anywhere else over gprs or wifi.
Interestingly, it works fine outside my home if I share a wifi connection with my laptop but if the phone connects itself, I get the locating, then streaming then weak connection.
I guess it's an issue with the wifi connection on the phone but quite why it works on my home network but not anywhere else in the world is a mystery!
I have the latest software for slingbox.
All help gratefully received
Jon
Which Slingbox Mobile version are you using? Version 1.2 does not work on WM6 (unless you run the patch floating around here) and version 1.5 does.
Very strange
Very strange. Mine works fine with the ATT WM6 Rom. I have cable so I DNS. Every once in a while i get the issue you are talking about but I just soft reset and then the I connect no problem. In case you want to narrow it down...I use the following:
Slingbox Classic
Time Warner Cable
8525 with WM6 and slingplayer version 1.5
I have verified that the issue occurs whether I'm near home or 60 miles away, in either case going through the AT&T network. I do see the light come on my slingbox pro when the PDA says Starting. I've checked and I have the lastest versions for windows, mac, and mobile. I'm wondering if there is some issue with my router as I do remember having to reboot that a few weeks ago (you can see that I don't use the mobile version that much, but of course now I miss it).
I'll check on the router and let you all know. I did have 4 bars today when testing from home...and as I said it works fine via my home WiFi.
Thank you all for the support, it has been great!
Works fine for me w/ Vp3g 3.62
I have a standard vp3g rom w/ 1.54 radio. My Slingbox pro works fine w/ a 3G connection, but no so good w/ Edge (no surprise there.) I'm even running a wireless ethernet bridge to it - not hardwired. I can't explain why you are having any issues, but do confirm you have the latest ROMs on all your networking equipment, including the slingbox and your Router. Good luck.
Still no joy...wondering if I should re-install the OS...I installed Sling Player Mobile again, removed, then re-installed because I noticed that it wasn't listed under the program list via add/remove programs...I suspected that there was something with the last install...
I re-installed ActiveSync 4.5 on my PC because it was acting funny (would disconnect from my PDA with no message sometimes) that seems to be fine now...
I checked my router...it has a passthru setting for my Slingbox IP address and std port.
My DSL modem has IP Passthru to my router...
My only thought is to re-install the OS which has been a pain because I have Garmin Mobile 10 and have been reloading the maps each time so that they are available...I'll copy the garmin folder from My Device to my desktop, maybe that will remove this necessity...
Any more ideas let me know...
Thank you,
Tim
I ran the mobile speed test on DSL reports, at 400k it said 633/512/437 kbs, earlier in the day it said the file was too small. At 1 MB I got 574/454/499 kbs, earlier in the day it was 791 kbs.
I'm in south Florida, I'm using:
ROM version: vp3G 3.62.3
ROM date: 10/11/07
Radio version: 1.50.00.00
Protocol version: 32.83.7020.20H
SlingPlayer Mobile 1.5.0.98
SlingPlayer is loaded on 2GB storage card. It was working with vp3G 3.60...and 1.50.00.00.
I reloaded the OS and with just sling player loaded on internal...still no joy.
I reset the DSL modem to factory settings and enabled IP Passthru for my router, no joy.
I even set my slingbox in the DMZ, no joy.
I'm wondering if it's something to do with my radio..1.50?
I have another option...besides DSL I have cable and may try connecting the sling box through that...
Any other ideas?
I've verified setup for internet viewing via my PC...
Just an idea... Try orb.com.
I stream my video via a connection to cable on my PC via Orb.
Mike
Interesting findings this weekend. As mentioned previously, I have internet access via cable modem and DSL Xtreme. I moved the slingbox, pc, and router over to my cable modem. Setup everything so that the PC could see the Sling locally and it works fine. When I try to configure for remote viewing, it does not work! I manually configured the router and still no Joy.
I then put the router and slingbox on the DSL LAN and reset the router to defaults (no port forwarding, etc.) Configure everything to work locally, then setup remote network viewing...sling setup thinks all is fine. I check the router...nothing has changed, no port forwarding entries, etc. So I manually configure.
I hook my pc up to the cable modem directly, get internet access and attempt to connect to the sling. It connects almost immediately and then sits on Optimizing for about a minute without any bars or activity going on within the viewer.
I'm wondering if this is a problem with my router...I can run speed tests with multi megabyte files without any issues...
My router is a d-link wbr1310..which used to work...but I guess it's possible that my problem has been discovered...any thoughts?
BTW, I down graded my radio to 1.48 prior to doing all of this and that didn't make any difference which led me to do all of the following for problem isolation.
Thanks for any thoughts...
Tim
I just flashed the original ROM to my phone last night as an attempt to clean it back up. So far I've installed: Google Maps, Seven, Opera 5 mini beta, Microsoft My phone, Advanced Config tool, .Net 3.5, eras2r 3G CommManager Addon, Marketplace, and MS 3.5.
I had the latest Facebook app installed and it worked, decently. When I uninstalled it and installed an older version I started to not be able to connect to FB or to my internet. I've tried resetting settings, and restoring a lot of items to default. I have sense uninstalled FB from my phone completely but still can not connect to the internet on my phone. I am able to receive e-mails. I'm connected to 3G (showing an H connection) and tried to switch it over to Edge but still no dice. I'm connecting to Media Net for any connections that try and access the network.
I did make some headway by connecting to the WiFi at work. When connected I can connect to the internet just fine. This however is limiting and I don't like connecting to wifi if I don't have to.
I was using ActiveSync to transfer some cabs to my phone from my pc and just unplugged it when I finished the last transfer, hopefully that didn't cause the issue. I've performed numerous SoftResets but still having the issue.
Anyone know what I can check? I'd like to avoid Hard Resetting if possible as I hate having to set up everything again.
Edit: Forgot to add the error message when trying to get on the internet:
"Connection Failed: Unable to connect. Please review your network settings."
Is anyone able to help? This is really frustrating me
An update (hope this helps): I ran the "Enable hidden proxy" feature that the ROM comes with and switched opera over to a Socket connection. This allows Opera to work fine, but not in HTTP mode (like it was this morning). I am still unable to connect to Facebook.

You are going to need to provide more information. Which carrier (they have different Internet settings), which "Stock ROM" version.
Sorry, I'm using the Tilt 2 on the AT&T network. I eventually got frustrated enough with it yesterday that I performed a hard reset, which fixed it. I flashed the March 17th version of the 2.5 Energy ROM and had a hiccup at one point. I don't know if this is related or not, but I had plugged my phone into my work laptop and used active sync (it's now set to file transfer instead) so that I could charge my phone. About 5 minutes after unplugging it from my laptop I was unable to go to any website. A soft-reset resolved it.
edit: I really think it may have something to do with my plugging it in to my work computer. Right now I can't connect to FB via the app, I can open Opera and google search, but when trying to go to a website it gives me: "Could not find proxy server"
Not sure if it is something on my end, but ever since the upgrade, which I did as a clean install, I have had issues with being "connected" but not going anywhere. I am connected to wifi, have an IP address, but nothing will load, then all of a sudden it starts working again. My laptop, my phone, etc have no problems during this time, so it doesn't appear that its my router or anything. I am using the 5ghz band on the Nexus and laptop and plan on testing to see if it does better on the 2.4ghz spectrum but it seems like it affects all my apps. I will be looking on Instagram and then pics stop loading, I open the browser, can't browse, type thing, so not app specific, but the entire time I show excellent signal strength, i'm maybe 10ft from the router, my work laptop is connected on VPN right next to me and doesn't drop out, again making me think it isn't my side, but more so something with the Nexus since 5.0 update.
Dude, Google.
I have this issue as well.
For general internet use and most apps it's not a problem as I only lose connection for ~10s before it reconnects but if I'm playing a game that requires a persistent internet connection it kicks me out at the most inopportune times...
I hope there's a fix soon, KitKat was flawless.
Hey,
I have two Windows 10 computers, one a desktop and one a laptop. When I connect them to my phone using either WiFi Hotspot or USB tethering, the loading of web pages is EXTREMELY slow. As in, it won't exceed 100 kilobits a second. The same occurs when I try download a file. Yet, when I run a Speedtest, it goes to the expected speeds (anywhere between 3mbit to 30mbit depending on the 4G signal strength at the time). I would like to confirm that all the above figures are in bits rather than bytes and I am aware of the difference.
When I connect iPhones or other Android devices to my HTC 10 using WiFi Hotspot, everything is fine. Web pages load quickly and speedtests are quick.
Does anyone else have similar issues when tethering to Windows 10 computers?
