how would you go about flashing a new theme over a theme that i already flashed
Create a nandroid backup of course.
flash the rom you are using again without wiping data.
wipe dalvik.
reboot.
reboot back into recovery.
flash new theme.
should work fine
I always just flash the new theme over the old one.......haven't ran into any problems yet.

Don't see why not... I usually for my own well being flash the cyanogen mod again then the theme over that... idk why just makes me feel better, but pretty sure you can flash one theme over another...
just do a nandroid before hand and try it out.. worst case just restore your nandroid backup...
your not supposed to. flashing the rom then the theme makes it like a new installation type thing stuff lol.. but really its better to just flash the rom. if you go from the theme to theme you could and probably will get some errors from leftover stuff? not sure how it works, just know that the pros have said its best to flash the rom.
I've done it before on Cyanogen Mod. It's not like it will brick you phone or anything, but doesn't be surprised if weird things start happening. Jusr reflash your ROM, it only takes a minute and will make sure everything is flashed correctly.
It depends on whats in the theme most themes use the same template and will overwrite the files from the old theme now if the theme has say stericsons lockscreen and the new one doesn't u def need to flash the rom first or you'll def have problems but its always safer to just flash the rom first to overwrite the old theme just in case the new theme has a different template or different apk's inside
Cool. That's exactly what I thought. Thanks
here's my solution.
Since I started playing with themes....
I flash the Cyanogen (the best!) ROM. - Install all my apps (or restore them).
Then boot into recovery and do a Nandroid backup. (you can manage/copy this backup-file as your 'golden-copy')
Then flash the theme I want and between flashing themes, do a Nandriod restore.
Works so far pretty good!

Depends on the theme. If the original theme has files the new theme does not, the new theme won't overwrite them. An example is the NFL themes, my first updates, I am not touching framework, so if you flash it over another theme, your status bars and some other things will be that of your original theme. If the contain all the files then the second theme should overwrite everything in the first.
I noticed that if I flash a theme over another one that they have been blending together OR that icons and details will switch in and out from one to another. It hasnt affected the phone and I thought I was going crazy but restoring the backup then flashing again solved the problem

Well yeah you suppose to flash the cyan rom again then you can flash whatever theme.
Phone keeps getting stuck at 4g screen have waited for as long as 15 min b4 pulling battery and restoring
First of all I'm running the newest public version on fresh. It is deodexed correct?
Have tried themes with different roms
I have tried putting themes on my phone using the recovery method and the Rom manager
Also have tried with both clockwork and ra recovery
Haven't tried again since I switched back to ra recovery. I will try after work
I may only have 2 posts but I have gotten this far by simply reading then trial and error. Tried searching for someone with same problem and cannot find anything please help.

what theme are you using. Something to watch out for is that some themes will say they are for CM6 currently themes for CM6 or ASOP roms do not work for sense and vice versus. some will have 2 versions of the theme and you want to make sure with fresh that you have the Sense version.
another thing since i dont know exactly what you are doing when you flash is make sure you do not wipe cache or dalvik when flashing a theme. I have always run into problems when doing so and when i dont have been just fine.
Lastly if you are flashing a rom before flashign a theme make sure you boot the rom fully at least once before flashing a theme. My normal procedure is to
factory wipe/cahce/dalvik.
flash kernel
boot into the rom
go back into recovery and flash the theme i want
flash any additional addons to the theme (some have these like manups and riptide)
flash to remove htc lock screen (i prefer vanilla)
Hi, I just flashed the ARDH 3.3 rom, and everything is working great, just wanted to know that if i flash a theme and then i don't want it after a few days how can i remove it? and after i remove it will it go back to orignal? and also if I want to flash the beta 4 rom of ardh then do i have to go through the whole process of full wipe? or can i just install the rom withoutfull wipe?
THANKSS!!! in advance
EHHHKKKKKK help! okay so i tried flashing a theme, heres wat i did--- icopied theme file onto sd card, then i went into rom manager and clicked on recovery boot thingy or w.e so it rebooted in recovery mode then i went into install from sd card and installed theme and then i went on system reboot now its stuck on htc screeen

It's probably because you didn't wipe. (i call it 'skidding')
Get full-wipe-1.3 zip file & put that on your sd card too.
Run this from recovery before a new rom.
wait what? im tring to find out how to flash a theme?

What do you mean by 'flash a new theme'?
To my knowledge, a 'theme' is just an appearance (layout, wallpaper, icons etc), which doesn't require flashing.
If you're just talking about flashing different roms (that might have a different look from one to the next), then yes, it is advisable that you wipe first.
i mean how do i put this on the phone? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951768

I see, learn something new everyday.
Appears more to it than actually flashing a rom; a lot to get right, but the instructions seem clear enough.
But, if you're having problems, i'd always advise wiping & start again.
im so lost : /, i wish there was a guide on putting themes

You're flashing roms so i assume you've got s-off etc, & you're using a 2.2.1 (1.72) sense based rom for this theme (+ all the other things you need to do, like uninstalling launcher pro etc)
What i'd do is...
put full-wipe-1.3, the rom (+ gapps if needed) & the theme on your sd card
reboot into recovery via rom manager
Install zip file via sd card
full wipe 1.3
then
the rom
then
gapps (if needed)
then
reboot...
then do all the things needed to allow the theme to work properly
& finally, reboot into recovery via rom manager again
install the theme (zip file from sd card)
reboot...
thanks alot fr the help but i think ill leave it as it is lol :/ ty nyway though
After flashing a rom normally, just reboot, go to clockworkmod again and flash the theme from SD. Just go to install zip from SD. No biggie

I have really hosed my phone and have no idea what is going on. So I have been playing around with the puzzle lock mod and deodexed theme for a couple of days. So today I flashed the blue puzzle lock mod to check it out again. Than I made a few image changes to the theme I was using. Flashed it and it won't boot up. Kept saying force closed on google search and a whole bunch of other apps. So I wiped everything dalvik and all. odined the deodexed file again and applied the theme I was using yesterday before any changes. Same thing. So I repeated the process clearing cache formatting sdcard. I tried everything. I should meantion that the phone works fine before I apply the theme. So I odin stock ec05, rooted and applied the theme I have been using for months and it does the same thing. At some point it stopped force closing and just wouldn't boot past the samsung logo. Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on and how to get this fixed?

You didn't restore any backups after rooting?
Nope. Nothing. I have tried 20 times at least. I just tried a new cable also.
It sounds like that a update hosed the theme. Was there a update to say your launcher? Sorry all I got
No updates. I am using ODIN to put a clean system on. It boots and everything works fine. I boot into clockwork and apply the theme zip. Same one I have been using for months that has always worked. And it won't boot. I just don't get it. I thought ODIN was supposed to wipe the phone clean. If that is so than what is going on?

What root method did you use and is that the same as you had? Did you need to flash a custom kernel first before the theme?
I used the one click root, same one I have always used. I have used the odexed prerooted EC05 and the deodexed prerooted EC05 also. None of them work. No kernels. All stock.

Don't most themes require a custom kernel for things like the boot animation and such?
Not for basic themes. I am not using boot images or anything special. Just image changes mainly. I have never used a custom Kernel. This just doesn't make any sense.

After the changes were done, did you re-sign the apps?
Nope. Didn't make any app changes. And I have tried old themes that I have used before any changes and they don't work.

I would try flashing a custom kernel and see if they work then.
I will try that but like I said I have never used a custom kernel and have never had a problem. I am about to flash the simply-blue-mod-6lockscreens.zip file again to make sure I am not losing my mind. I flashed that file yesterday and earlier today without problems. I am beginning to think something is wrong with the nand or something very serious. I don't know much about this though so I am really lost.
Doesn't ODIN wipe out the nand? If not is there a way to format it?

It may be a bad Odin flash. You could try again and use the .pit and repartition.
I have ODIN'ed more the 20 times now. It looks like it is permissions. I tried fix permissions before but maybe I didn't follow the right sequence or maybe it just took more than once. This time I wiped 3x everything, fixed perms, odin, let boot and sit for a while, boot to cwm and apply theme zip, reboot and it loaded. I am going to try again with the current theme.

Cool. I am just now having a "fix permissions" discussion with another beta tester.
It sounds like odin is working fine and it's the theme that is causing the issue. If you had it working before with that specific combination of firmware+theme and you know it should be working, then it may be the recovery format... What CWM recovery are you using? Is it converting to EXT4, if so is the theme package compatible? I'd recommend using the latest version (if not already) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13746457&postcount=1
it doesn't force EXT4 or RFS. Best of luck.
Using 2.5 same as always. Not on ext4. Something is just not right. It is doing it again. I am not sure what is going on.
WTF. Now I think there is some conspiracy by maddoggin to take over all epics . I can flash simply-blue-mod-6lockscreens.zip with no problem. And if I flash a theme that doesn't work after flashing his theme it works. I could see that in some strange deodexed thing but I have flashed back to stock odex and can't get my odex theme to work either, which has always worked. I am about to go nuts over here.
I am running Shooter 3D and want to add custom themes/skins without losing the original theme. How can I have my gingerbread and eat it too?
Either the theme is designed for theme switcher where you can change it at will, or if it it flashed from recovery, simply reflash the rom and the stock theme will be back on.
This epic reply brought to you by none other than my roxx'd out Evo.
Thanks. Reflashing the rom won't have any negative effects?

There is no theme chooser for the shooter rom as far as i know. But it is as simple as saving your flashable custom theme zip on your sd card.
If you flash your custom theme and want stock back
1. Go into Recovery
2. Wipe just Dalvik Cache
3. Flash original Shooter zip
2 weeks later your like "Hey I want my theme back!".
Do this
1. Go into Recovery
2. Wipe just Dalvik Cache
3. Flash Your Theme
4. Enjoy!!

No, it'll just reflash the rom. It'll have stock theme and the apps that it came with. Just don't wipe at all before you flash and you'll be fine.
