Shocked to find out the standard # of tabs is 4 maximum. There used to be a way to adjust this in Opera Mobile on bad old WinMo. Is there a way to do it for the browser in Android?
To be honest, I'm not sure, but I know the Browser that comes with ACS SyndicateROM 1.1.0 allows you to open 8 tabs vs the normal 4.

No there's not a way to adjust it. As said above me, if you use Syndicates Rom there is no limit. I would recommend just downloading dolphin browser hd from the market and using that. In my opinion it is much better than the stock browser anyway and you can have unlimited tabs.
I guess that's my cue to finally try Dolphin. Thanks.
can you help me to choose the best browser please?..

I personally use Miren browser. I just love the smoothness of it all as well as the quick bookmarks home screen. Now that the MIUI browser does the same thing I switch between the two. However, unless you use a MIUI rom you won't get that browser so Miren is your next best bet imo
I use the stock browser on CM7. Does what I need it to do and never crashes or breaks.
I'm not super heavy browser user though.
I have been using Dolphin Browser HD until I bought my Desize Z but I generally can't download apk files from filesonic server. It tries to save it like an htm file, as a result i can't install it. After these problems i decided to try other browsers but i couldn't read good feedbacks about opera and firefox because of they don't both have flash support. So I can't know how to download apk files without any problem.
I use the stock browser but when I was using MIUI, I found the stock browser on that to be really buggy and slow. During that time I used Dolphin HD and it was pretty fast, but I'm back to using Cyanogenmod so I'm using the stock browser again.
Personally, I use Dolphin HD because (so far) it's the one browser I've found besides Opera Mobile that actually handles bookmark folders properly
(Yes, I consider this an essential feature that is sadly missing with the standard browser. It's something I've been spoiled on since "dunce-phones" like the LG Fusic (and its version of Opera Mobile); almost all Windows Mobile browsers handle bookmark folders, and it was one of the things I BADLY missed from WinMo (and at the time Opera Mobile for Android was not quite ready for prime time).)
There's also some nice plugins, not quite as many as with Firefox Mobile (which is nice but IMHO also Not Quite Ready For Prime-Time) but including at least one implementation of Adblock (again, something I do consider essential due to malware being distributed by compromised banner ads).
I've also found occasionally that some wifi hotspots with "AUP logins" (requiring you to accept an acceptable user policy before using the free public wifi) don't work properly with the stock browser but do with Dolphin HD.
That said--the stock browser ain't bad. I just happen to be a bit of a power mobile user...
I use Dolphin Mini. It's like a scaled-down version of Chrome.
Dolphin HD. So far, it does everything well.

I use Google Chrome..It is the best browser,
--Google Chrome is designed to be fast in every possible way: It's quick to start up from your desktop, loads web pages in a snap, and runs complex web applications fast.
--Its browser window is streamlined, clean and simple.
--Chrome also includes features that are designed for efficiency and ease of use.
For example, you can search and navigate from the same box, and arrange tabs however you wish — quickly and easily.
--Chrome is designed to keep you safer and more secure on the web with built-in malware and phishing protection, autoupdates to make sure the browser is up-to-date with the latest security updates..
--When i first downloaded it, my internet was running at a lighting speed, i even checked my speed from ip-details and it was normal too..But the only one advantage with firefox is that it has more add ons, which makes things much easier..and for search engine i use Google its pretty good..

Opera Mobile - it's like surfing with a laptop. That virtual mouse is pretty cool.
No brainer: FIREFOX.

My choice as well. I've been using opera on my home computer for years so it was a no-brainer to go with it on my phone. Having the ability to sync every bookmark no matter what device I'm using is key for me. It's fast, as fast if not faster than any other, and it just works well. I tried dolphin for a few weeks but never liked it, and I feel like the stock isn't as fast as opera.
for me it depends. if i want to use flash faster than the stock i use skyfire and if i want to download an file on another folder than download i use opera mini or the mobile both are great for downloads because they have download managers.
Im still using stock browser. Work great for me.

opera mini/mobile cause they are the BEST
Anyone know how to get the browser out of mobile view for websites? I tried changing the settings in About:useragent but the settings don't save. Thanks
Install a diffrent browser.
I prefer miren browser. It has a option to apear as a desktop and loads everything you throw at it.

I will try it. I was hoping to keep the stock and fix this stupid problem.

You can still keep the stock browser. Just have a second one for those times when you need to appear as a desktop. In the end though, the stock browser sucks
The stock browser is GPU accelerated, so is opera mobile. No other browser is GPU accelerated and sites like XDA absolutely CHUG on Miren/Dolphin........

I don't know if this is true or not. I looked around the market for a bit and found no info.
It has been awhile, but I tried all the major browsers. I found Dolphin, Opera, and most others to be sub par. Miren is the fastest one I have used. It is easily as fast as any other, or faster in my personal experience. Added to that, almost every flash based site I find myself visiting, works. Win in my book.
Opera is the fastest for me as well
According to anandtech the stock browser on the epic touch is optimized on the back end. It uses the same tricks that safari uses on the ipad 2. But, Samsung found a way to do it better. So technically the stock browser on the epic touch is way better than the stock browser on other Android phone. Anandtech got real technical with their in depth review. I suggest you check it out.
Note: I'm not 100% sure if the review I refer to was anandtech.
Weird. I've always done it through about:debug and then the settings menu but I just tried and the user agent option is missing. I can't imagine why they would have removed it entirely.

I tried some of the other browsers and the stock is just better. It is faster, more responsive, smoother with scrolling and zooming. I just wish there was a way to get it to go non-mobile!!!

Its not removed, you have to type about:useragent to change it. It will not stick though once you exit the browser.
This is a Touchwiz thing. G-Tab 10.1 had the same problem after TW update. There's a mod in the G-Tab forum that allows about:useragent desktop mode to stick. Hopefully we can get some love....
Ran a ton of site download tests and boat browser mini was fastest of all of them....including stock...(actually it virtually tied stock on the 15 site test I did).
However: NONE of the browsers display desktop pages on key sites (nytimes, engadget, gizmodo etc) regardless of the useragent setting on the Epic Touch.
Stupidass Sprint-Samsung.

Yes they do...if you set useragent to desktop. However, it reverts back to mobile when you close browser.
Yeah that's what I meant...close browser: have to keep entering. Nobody for me. Hoping for a good hack!

So as the title says : do you prefer using Stock Browser or Chrome , and why ?
Thanks folx
Stock, why pop-up
I like the stock one so far
I really like lots of things about Chrome and much prefer the way it handles tabs over the stock browser - it's so slow changing between tabs on the built in one - but the performance of the stock is just so much better that I can't use Chrome. Is it the same for everyone? Scrolling in Chrome is just so stutter and choppy, especially noticeable when going slowly.
Stock- Of course. Always, browsing heavy sites, reading and all.
Chrome- Never (other than when I want to show off that pesky tab sliding view, but I don't show off)
Opera- For downloading.
Period.
Don't forget that flash works with the stock browser but not Chrome, also now I have adjusted Framework, the stock browser defaults to desktop view instead of having to tick that damn box everytime you open a new tab!
Well, like most others, I've obviously noticed the better speed in the stock browser, so it's always a temptation.
However, apparently unlike most of the others who've replied, I spend 90% of my browsing time in Chrome, due to the exceptionally useful (for me) integration between Chrome on my (two) Android devices (Nexus 7 tablet, Galaxy Note 2 smartphone) and my two laptops. The fact that my bookmarks are kept in perfect, almost instant synchronization between these devices, as well as the extremely useful feature to open any tab on one device instantly on another one, are just too useful to pass up. If I run into a web page that is just too unresponsive to use in Chrome, I will sometimes go ahead an open in in the stock browser. I wish there was an add-in or something in Chrome to allow you to choose another browser to open the current page in.
Anyway, now that Google is shipping Chrome as the default browser on JB, I'm hopeful that they will continue to improve its rendering speed and responsiveness.
Only thing i hate about stock browser is slow tab management.. and im a heavy tab user.. thats the only thing that irritates me with stock browser...
Handwritten from my Note 2
Chrome here because I can sync with all my desktop bookmarks.
stock, used to it and flash support
I prefer chromes interface but rarely use
My favorite browser is the stock AOSP browser. I really wish we could have that browser on stock firmware.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Prefer stock on my phone, but only use crome on pc.
Because stock support flash.
Just cause i have to be different.....Id pick Dolphin over both. Really good gesture control
I always try Chrome but I always revert back to the stock browser. Because of flash support and the pop-up feature. I hate the fact that flash is not supported in chrome. I think it should be until HTML5 really does replace flash. in the meantime stock broswer for the win.
Although I do prefer the way Chrome handles tabs.
only stock, why?
full screen
flash
a lot of smoother
also can import bookmarks from pc chrome (syncing gmail acc internet bookmarks)
save page for offline view
Boat browser ...shores up the shortcomings of both...
I'm currently on opera mobile due to one feature call the text wrapping. and stock browser, aosp browser doesn't seem to work properly even when enabled. anyone has recommendation of other browsers that has text wrapping working beside opera mobile?
What is that desktop default mod?

Just updated my tab to stock lollipop rom 5.0.2 and I hate the new web browser.
I know I can use another browser like Chrome but I just cant find one that does what I want.
So here is my question :
Is there a way to bring back the web browser like it was in KitKat ? Or install some sort of aosp like browser ?
Please note i'm not rooted and I dont want to because I don't want to lose the private mode feature.

alot, I lost count... none gives me what I want, a one click access to bookmarks like the previous browser and the aosp browser.
I can manage to set the home button to open bookmarks in chrome but chrome wont let me order my bookmarks without using computer.
Chrome also does not magnify small links like the samsung browser.
of course the new samsung browser has all that but it is just plain ugly...
well im done with Lollipop, can't stand all the white everywhere and ugly web browser.
And there is not a single Lollipop new feature that I'm going to miss ... going back ti KitKat
