HTC Desire + Hotmail - Desire General

hey guys,
Apparently, since all of us stock Telus Desire owners are on 2.1, there is a problem with HTC Mail connecting to Hotmail through exchange (m.hotmail.com). Not sure if Telus is planning on fixing this when 2.2 is out (if ever, tabernac).. But what have some of you guys done to get this to work in the interm?
Some people were able to switch to Android mail which apprently works.. How do you get that exactly? I'm new to Android and still finding my way around..
Other people have tried third party software like K-9 and what not, apparently they work too.
Any feedback would be great!

anyone? this is really stressing me out..

I have my gmail account pick up my hotmail emails and use the gmail app (which uses IMAP).
otherwise, is there a problem with using the mail app and pop3 rather than exchange?
I would tell you exactly how I set it up, but I lost the friggen thing a week ago. New one on its way *thanks insurance*

with pop3, u wont be able to see the other folders or synch your emails to your mobile (ie, if u delete an email on mobile, it wont in your inbox..)

Use gmail its pretty good but sometimes 3rd party apps are good too.

It doesnt really help when someone says they want to use hotmail then the solution you're proposing is to use gmail.. :\

I'm not telling use gmail, I said it was good but if you really wanna use Hotmail just get a 3rd party app.

There is also a problem with the 2.2 HTC mail app.
I am using stock android mail app for hotmail, works fine.
I followed this guide:

Install IMPROVED EMAIL from the Market. Works brilliantly.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Cant find improved email in the market.. is it because I'm still running 2.1 and that is a 2.2 app?
I thought 2.2 resolves the hotmail issue anyways without having to make any changes?

Twitter app from HTC not working

Hi guys. i just notice how the twitter app no longer works on both stock 2.1 roms and all the cooked 2.2 roms such as LeeDroid and i think i know why.
i just got an email stating twitter will now use Oauth to authenticate your credentials so im guessing HTC apps dont use Oauth yet
htc comment on Twitter:
We know that Peep/Friend Stream are not working for some, and we apologize. Please bear with us while our developers are investigating.
its due to twitter now using OAuth
http://androinica.com/2010/08/31/htc-peepfriendstream-down-because-of-oauth/
It's indeed due to Twitter now using OAuth, but come on HTC, Twitter has been announcing this change (for the better) since well before the Desire was even launched!

Yeah! +1 working here.
Ahh yes, its working here as well so twitter make exception OAuth for Peeps?
Thx for you guys to point this.. Google everyday for Peep updates with no hope
from my Desire + XDA App
If you didn't update, Twitter apparently makes an exception for HTC Peep. Nice for the users, bad in general imo. This cuts HTC too much slack to actually update their apps
Re: Twitter App from HTC not working
Is there somesort of an update that I can download somewhere to make this work? I have been trying for the past few days to make thsi work, and I understand that there are problems.
But how are some people able to get there's working? Can't seem t get an answer from HTC other than that they are working on it.
I had problem as well. But logged into the twitter widget and was able to see the tweets in friend stream again. I did also log into the twitter app to see if it would work but nothing showed in friendsyream just in the app. But try the twitter widget and see how ya go.

HTC/Twitter has fixed the issue on there end, and there is no need for an update. Not sure the specifics, but I had a retweet from a friend this morning from HTC that said everything should be working.. Tried out my Twitter for HTC Sense, and it logged in first try. Havent had anymore issues since.
yes, twitter app is working fine again...
had 3 devices, all made problems, now all are working fine again

[Q][SOLVED] Stock E-Mail Application[Q]

Hi, I was wondering is it possible to install the original Mail application from the Google Nexus S/One (like the mail app you would find on Stock Gingerbread) onto my Desire HD? HTC's mail app has some issues with Exchange, and every time I delete an E-Mail it just re-appears in the same folder. Thanks in advance.
Problem Solved - Changed the settings on my Hotmail account, should have checked there first.

ICS Gmail Push Doesn't Work

I've always used K9 mail because the 2.x stock Gmail app wasn't that good, but I'm really liking the ICS Gmail app. Only problem is push mail doesn't work. I tried the stock Email app too and that's not working either. I would hate to have to use K9 with a great stock app, but I really want push mail to work. Any suggestions?
I did a brief search and didn't come up with anything useful so sorry if I missed a known fix for this.

Sync is on for both of my Google accounts and still no push mail. I flashed the Android Revolution Hd ROM but I don't think that would have anything to do with it.

LTE Google Galaxy Nexus! - Stock
Asus Transformer - OC/UV
I've been using gmail perfectly fine for over 2 years now. Push has always worked for me. From an OG Droid, to Nexus S, to Galaxy Nexus.
Working great for me; I can hear my computer ding when I get a new email at virtually the same time my phone does, so I am satisfied that push mail is working.
Weird part is that I've never had an issue getting push mail through K9. It works on and off with the stock Gmail app.

Well good chance it is, since push mail works perfectly on stock. I have 2 Gmail and 1 regular email account set up in the Accounts section and all of them work perfectly.
Probably is the ROM. I don't really need push mail until I'm back in school anyways so I'm not gonna worry about it too much.

Riiiiiiight, so you flashed a custom ROM on your phone and so it must be Google's fault that push email isn't working for you, when it is working for everyone who is running stock ICS? Yeah of course

K9 uses IMAP_IDLE for 'push email', whereas the Gmail app (from what I had read back when I first got an Android in 2009) uses it's own method for push email. It may even use C2DM. This may explain why you are not having trouble with K9, but are having trouble with the proper Gmail app.
It does seem to be the custom ROM you have flashed.

gmail actually has push? The only time I get new mail is when I tell gmail to check for it or if I have sync turned on and it does its frequency check.

S3's email app is terrible! Alternatives?? please help

I liked the stock email app on the galaxy S2, I figured that once I got my s3 that email would be similar, but it's not, it is much much worse. Is there any way to install the old mail app from the S2 on the S3?
I have tried the alternative email programs from the play store and I just don't like them.
Please help!
Thanks a million.
Enhanced Email...
I may not be correct, but.... I believe the GS2 used an email program built by Seven.
You may look and find an apk for Seven email+IM that should be similar. I personally cannot find a download link for it.
If you go their website, they do have a BETA Android program. http://community.seven.com/download.php Again, not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but may be worth a shot.
Edit: It appears they abandoned Android in the last year or something and the only client they currently are shown as making is the one for Hotmail's Android client. Sorry.

K-9 Mail is IMO a good email client. I don't know if it's one of the alternatives you tried and didn't like.
It's larger that Enhanced Email, but cheaper... (free)...
I'm new or I'd post a link to the Play store.
(I have no affiliation with K-9 Mail whatsoever.)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've tried all the free email apps on the play store and none of them really did it for me. Finally tried enhanced email too and that is a step in the right direction, hopefully I don't have any troubles from it.

yea if you need to check an exchange acct at work I usually go between nitrodesk touchdown and moxier mail. One of those should be perfect for you I prefer touchdown really.

do you have the apks for AOSP?
the rom NoAOSP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759245
uses the email client from google nexus; a user there said it was the only email client they've used on the S3 that allowed them to connect to their work email.
perhaps download that rom, open the zip with 7zip and pull out the email.apk and put it on your phone.
try to install it normally, if not you may have to copy it to system/app with root explorer (reboot afterwards)
might be worth a look

In the SGS2 email you could make it inverted and control font size from the app.
I pushed the old app every way i could. No joy. May try a flashable zip, but I can't see that making much difference... I guess it would have to be ported.

Is there any way to install HTC Mail app on Nexus ?

So, is there any way we can install the HTC mail app on our Galaxy Nexus ? I love that mail client and i would use it on my nexus also.
I guess it requires htc sense framework, so most probably no.

Mail clients on Android are pretty terrible. You've either got the choice of equally bad open source clients like K-9, or ad-ridden clients like Aqua Mail or Maildroid that require a payment to get the pro version.
I stick to the default mail client because it works fine for me despite being kinda crappy.
Everything is crap. Only the HTC one was ok for me... Isnt there any way to port it ?

The HTC one has some excellent features which you just don't get on the defaut client, like the ability to see all emails from all folders and all accounts in one pot.. That would be the main selling point for me!, is there a paid for client that can do that?
