Running Uncommon Sense 1.1 -- love it. Droid Incredible (purchased new this month).
However, I want to uninstall Music Mod and use the HTC Music app or something else.
I noticed that there is no preferences section under Music Mod, so I can't tell it not to respond to presses of my headset play / answer button.
It kind of annoying because Dogg Catcher is the only app I want to respond to the headset and sometimes Music Mod interferes with it.
Titanium Backup works great for uninstalling system apps. Just select Music Mod from the app list and hit delete.
Alternatively, you can download a file browser such as Root Explorer that allows access to the system directory and delete Music.apk from /system/app

You can remove most apps by using ADB to get a root shell and navigating to the app directory (cd /system/app/) ENTER
And then typing "rm -r x.apk" ENTER
Where x is the filename for the apk.
You can list the contents of the directory by typing ls ENTER
BE CAREFUL because if you remove something you need, you can trash your rom and have to reflash (or nandroid recovery)
You should nandroid backup before you go removing anything that's a part of the rom or essential. That said, enjoy streamlining your app directory

As pyroboy1080 pointed out, using "rm -r" through adb or a terminal editor is the best way to do this, but you can also do it with Root Explorer if you're lazy like me.

i'd like to delete some system apps , so they won't start in background like stock, friendstream, sense(i have launcher pro), twitter app, peep and talk.
If i kill these apps and delete them with Root Explorer with granted root and reboot after that, then they are back. Why is that, where do they come from?
I know that it is possible with adb shell in recovery but it takes a lot of typing and time.
Is there a way to do it faster?
You have to remove them via recovery via the adb command window. We only have partial root on the desire and the /system directory is not full write access unless in recovery.
I'd like to remove some of the bloat which is still in Fresh.
RSS Reader
Peep
Flickr
BlueTooth Share
I was able to remove some of the programs but the above I can't remove.
well, you can try using adb. use the command:
rm /system/app/<application-name>.apk
You will need to reboot. You may not want to remove the bluetooth share though, as some apk's are required for the system to function correctly. I have never tried to remove that app, so I don't know how the system will react. If anything messes up though you can just push the apk back, or do a nandroid backup before you remove anything
I removed Peep, Flickr, and RSS using this method with Fresh and all is well. Didn't touch the BT app.
you can also get a program like root explorer. And delete the apk from the system>app folder. Well worth the $1-2 for this program.
OK cleared off some junk.
adb shell
rm /system/app/Flickr.apk
rm /system/app/RSS.apk
rm /system/app/NewsReader.apk
rm /system/app/HtcTwitter.apk
rm /system/app/com.htc.TwitterWidget.apk
rm /system/app/Bluetooth.apk
rm /system/app/Calculator.apk
rm /system/app/Calendar.apk
rm /system/app/VoiceDialer.apk
rm /system/app/htccalendarwidgets.apk
rm /system/app/com.htc.rosiewidgets.*
rm /system/app/htcbookmarkwidget.apk
rm /system/app/HtcStreamPlayer.apk
Did you not have any problems with the widgets afterwards? When I did app removal using that method my widgets list was all messed up showing strange icons and displaying text such as #bf00070
Very frustrating...

You have to reboot after you do it to let it clear that junk out.
Hrm, I believe I tried thats well I'll give it another go.

My personal recommendation, at least until you are 100% positive removing an app won't break something (or even if you are not 100% sure you don't in fact want the app) is to use root explorer. highlite the apps (individually of course) you don't want and rename to something like "calculator.apk" to "calculator.apk.bak". This way if, down the road you are having issues that may be tied to the app you removed, you can easily remove the ".bak" part and everything is back to normal. This way you can also be more aggressive on what you are removing and still have a backup plan.
You can also do this completely free via adb, but i am often-times screwing around with stuff like this on the road... root explorer easily allows me to do all that and more. any app that you rename with "bak" (or "old" or any thing else for that matter.. pick a system that works for you and go with it) will look like its no longer in place.. so unless you need the space you could just leave it there for future use.
terminal
you can also download a FREE terminal and:
su
cd /system/app
rm packagenamehere.apk

Or you can do as the guy above me said and rename them:
su
cd /system/app
mv filename.apk filename.apk.bak
Hello devs.. i am trying to use adb while im in the clockwork recovery screen to remove some apps and some unwanted audio files. Everything is ok as far as being rooted and getting a number sign and the adb commands. The issue im having is that i cannot cd to the app folder. I can cd to the system folder and sdcard folders with no problem. But when i cd into the system, and then i use the list command "ls" to show me what im working wit it says app. But when i try " cd /system/app or cd /app " it says directory doesnot exist. Is there something im doing wrong here? I have installed, removed, pushed and pulled many apps using abd perfectly and i am not a noob.. but it seems like its a whole new ball game when it comes to the slide.. the super user tasks managers no longer work, a dev named roman told me they no longer work and i would have to use adb in clockwork recovery mode to execute any changes to the phones files. But im stuck at this point. Any suggestions? Also i have tried to remove the files directly with a command like " adb rm /system/app/Gallery3D.apk or rm /system/app/Gallery3D.apk" with no results. Is there a way using adb to delete the contents of an entire directory without deleting the directory itself? Thanks in advance devs

You probably forgot to mount /system. You can do so via the CWM Recovery partitions menu.
ohhhhhh...ok thanks alot.. i did miss that.

Better way of doing it is using 7zip and removing/addin files that way, than flashin that rom,its cleaner and faster.

Not sure I agree, but to each their own.
This is kind of a cross post from the Apps forum, but I am getting no response there. CM6 uses a different music app than the stock HTC player, and the stock player works with the included headphones that have the control buttons. Which ROM can I steal the HTC player from and push back to my phone?

You could try to push the HTCMusic app from the OTA update. But I think it might be odexed so you might run into a problem. I haven't checked it out yet

I doubt this will work with CM6 but it is worth a try. It says its for 2.1 and I havent tried it but I thought I would throw it out as a idea. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679707

Yeah, I tried pushing the HtcMusic.apk/.odex files to the /system/app folder with no luck (I do not know what being odex'ed means to being able to do this). Any other thoughts?

Do you think it's best to do it from clockwork recovery? What I have been doing is just doing a delete from inside the rom with win rar before installing.
You can use Android Commander which also works for the slide. You just need to be in recovery with both your system and cache mounted so it will make changes otherwise it'll look like it did on the computer but actually when you restart the program you find it did nothing. lol Don't forget to open the program with Administrator Rights. I think the program makes things much easier.

thanks the commander worked perfectly! any reason why apps that i push dont show up in the phones app list when i boot up again?
They show up in the app drawer, any way to remove them?
Try with Titanium backup you can uninstall system apps with it.
Well, I went through /system/app and deleted a load of APKs (so now just have 1 page of apps in the app drawer, and then another 2 which I want to get rid of)
I can't find the APKs for these though
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050283
Thats a link to a rom cleaning script which lists many apps and the name of the .apk for that app,you may find what you need to know there.Just watch what you are deleting as could cause system problems

If the script doesn't work, you can use the package manager commands through terminal (or adb shell) to determine apk location.
Use root un installer pro

Hi,
I'm trying to remove google plus as I don't use it, but when I try to uninstall it in settings it only allows me to uninstall updates not the app ??
I'm running AOKP milestone 2
Thanks

Or titanium backup to freeze the app or just uninstall it
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Removing the stock app will cause the Gallery app to crash as it's linked, just so you know
thanks for replies. The reason i wanted to uninstall was because i kept seeing Google+ in my running/cached apps but everytime i stopped it just restarted again sometime later
In the end i deleted the apk from /system/app. But this did not remove the app from the app drawer.
i then deleted the apk from /data/app too and rebooted and that removed it for me. I checked Gallery too and that still seems to work ok, however it did have to sync picasa again
i also read about another step to uninstall, something along the lines of running the terminal command "pm uninstall com.google.android.apps.plus" but that gave me a segmentation error, but it doesnt seem to have affected anything, i no longer see google+ in the running/cached apps
Wish i had known about titanium backup first. I went in and uninstalled Google Wallet too from there and everything seems fine! much easier...
cheers!
Hi Buddy,
Easiest and best way to be sure app has completely gone is to remove it via adb.
Open command line and enter the following commands then reboot:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/example.apk
Be aware that these commands are case sensitive, if you need to see the correct names for the apps in your /system/app/ folder issue the following command and they will be listed for you:
Code:
adb ls /system/app/
Hope this helps buddy!
