How do I use VPN to connect to work Cisco network VPN? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not sure if the VPN options in my ROM (MIUI) or (DeFrost 5.6) is able to connect to my work's Cisco VPN.
If it is how do I do this, or which connection type do I choose?
I'm really confused and all I understood was to decrypt the .pcf file's group password, which I did, but not sure how do to do... search turned up cold as well

does NE1 have the answer to wifi not connecting to the net

im trying to get an internet connection through my wifi connection. i have done search's and lots of people seem to be asking the same question but nobody has the answer.
at the moment i can access my c: using an application called Resco explorer. but i can not connect to the internet. im not sure what setting i should have on the wifi manger and on my pc. im also using AOL as my isp.
PLS PLS help
Edit:
also i can not connect to activesync (version 3.8.0) via wifi. maybe if i was able to connect to this the internet would work as it does when its docked??????
looks like a no then
I got mine working but setting my wireless network adapter to connect to "Work".
Under Settings>Connections>Tasks>Manage existing connections>Proxy Settings> check the "This network connects to the internet" box
then
Under Settings>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks> "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:" to "My Work Network" (and the same with one for private network)
Also in your active sync settings, make sure your connection settings allow network (Ethernet) and RAS connections.
From previous research around this, i'm pretty sure you can only use the internet pass through under "WORK" settings only.
*thought i'd better register and contribute as i've gained a fair bit from this forum.
no good anyother ideas. i have searched through hundreds of threads and still no go
help pls
Make sure you have "Enable Netbios over TCP/IP" checked in your TCP/IP Advanced settings.
i have done this on both my wifi network and my isp network.
still not working
Have you checked if you're getting an IP address from your Wireless Router's DHCP server? Also DNS settings and Gateway address should be there.
You can check this easily by using vxUtil (free )
these are my settings:
tiacxwln1 - tiacxwln compatible wireless
Ip address 192.168.0.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.0.1
primary DNS 192.168.0.1
secondary dns
primary wins
seconfdary wins
DHCPs server 192.168.0.1
under serial usb
IP address 192.168.55.101
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.55.100
primary DNS 127.0.0.1
Getting this error when I tried to allow my broadband connection to share with my wifi connection. If I unplug the wifi connection and try and share with another network I don’t get any errors.
Internet connection sharing (ics) cannot be enabled due to IP address conflict on the network. ICS requires the host be configured to use 192.168.0.1 please ensure that no other client on the network is configured to use 192.168.0.1
hmmm ... ever had the same problem. all devices are able to connect to the same router except mine sx66.
then i change the router's channel to '1' .. tada .. now everyone is connected. it might sounds silly, but it worked for me.
try changing your ap wireless channel.

i found the problem with activesync 3.8 and 4.0 somehow, so i reverted back to 3.7, now wifi can sync.
afaik, connecting to internet has nothing to do with activesync. its a direct connection to wifi router. use work location and check the proxy settings if u hv any? (at home i use connect to internet without proxy, at work i use connect to internet with proxy).
Also, for Activsync with wifi, make sure that the WINS server address is that of yr PC u want to sync with.

VPN and Remote Desktop

Hi Guys,
either I dont know how to search or there is no info on VPN on the forum(I probably dont know how to search) In any case. I need assistance. How do I setup a VPN on my TyTn running WM6 and also how do I get remote desktop client? I am sure this was around previously. Did MS remove it from WM6? Or was it HTC? It this is the case.. how can one get it back?
thanks!
here's remote desktop. How do you use it? I don't know how to set it up.
thanks!!!!
now for VPN....
cheers!
The remote desktop client is available in several places in this forum for download.
To set up a VPN:
add a new VPN server connection
enter the name / ip of the server you want to connect to
select the vpn type -- ipsec or pptp
next
enter your user name and password
finish
The only way I have found to connect to the von is to goto
Start-Settings-connections-connections-edit my vpn servers- -- tap & hold MY VPN
select connect
you must be using a plan that assigns you a public IP (not WAP)
hope this helps

Thanks cmccarter, done it but how will I know I am connected.. It does not say connected anywhere that I can see and when clicking/hold on the item it gives me the option to connect again, not disconnect as I would have thought The other thing is terminal server does not connect. It connects fine on USB. VPN/Remote desktop connects fine using normal internet on pc from outside the network. So I believe the network settings are fine.. How would I know though if I am on WAP or get an IP. Also ow would I know if the VPN is connected?
thanks

i also have struggled getting rdp to work over a vpn, in particular over 3+/hsdpa
the only i found in wm5 was to add the vpn connect to the exceptions list of the connection manager, so that it didnt disconnect the vpn whem connecting the rdp.
this occurs more when u use an ip address to connect to a work intranet.
suppose if u use the dns name of the machine and not the ip address then it isnt that much of an issue. in wm5 when u put the ip address in it assumes a an internet rather than intranet connection so it disconnects the vpn to look for the ip over the internet
putting the ip into exceptions forced wm5 to not disconnect it when rdp was looking for it.
i cudnt get it to work this way in wm6 so i am also looking for an answer on this.
rdp to my servers when they have crashed and i am on the road wud b wonderful....
Hi,
I've a similar problem.
I use a VPN-1 SecuRemote that normally connect my PC directly to the company network.
Well, using the share modem tool, I'm not able to reach the gateway.
the share modem system give me a private IP that establish a connection between PC and TYTN.
This connection use the Tytn like a gateway to navigate in internet.
Someone know to solve this issue?
Tanks a lot
if i select start the vpn connection, nothing happens - and i can`t ping the IP`s in the VPN. so i think the vpn ist not open - OR the routing entrie is missing....
is there some shiny "pptp - standalone" client?
greets, Nik
for some reason i dont think the vpn option works over 3g/hsdpa, atleast not on my device using t-mob web and walk.
if i connect the vpn when using wifi it connects and everything is fine, if i try and connect when i'm already running a 3g connection it doesn't work.
i dont think the radio stack is capible of handling a 3g connection and a vpn connection. we might need to go down the route of getting a seprate wm vpn client.

[Q]VPN to Cisco network

Hey everyone. Was curious if anyone has tried a VPN application on the Nexus. Not sure if stock kernel would even support it. I currently use VPN Connections on my Droid Incredible CM7, as it was only easy vpn app I found to connect to my cisco vpn network at work.
Yeah you need custom kernel and root.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
No root or custom kernel with Columbitech! All stock client with Android 4.0! Two factor authentication, 256 bit AES encryption, FIPS 140-2 certification and session persistence!

Wait, I thought ICS added Cisco VPN support. Why bother with rooting or Columbitech?

Cisco VPN now works, at least against the ASA5505 I'm testing against. It accepts Group Names under IPSec/L2TP/PSK. Key in your group name and password, and it should work. Have not messed with certificates yet.
Works for me too (don't know the model).
This release is all kinds of awesome

What about SSL VPN (i.e. Cisco AnyConnect)?

Cisco has Anyconnect apps in the market for SSL VPN. You have to have the corresponding mobile licenses installed in the ASA first.

Hmm...looks like it either requires root or a specific hardware vendor's ROM to work. Guess they haven't updated it to use the ICS VPN API yet.
Hmmmm today Im try connect to Cisco VPN which use Group Authentication but failed. On PC I use Cisco VPN Client version 5.0.07.0290 and can normaly connect.
I don't use certificates.
I have selected IPSec over UDP (NAT / PAT).
I have Host, Group Name, Group Password, User Name, User Password which I must write in which edit box on android?
Few of you mention to use it already supports it. I tried to setup one with L2TP/IPSec PSK. Entered the server name. Which fields do you put the group username and password in?
Thanks in advance!
I'm using the IPSec XAuth PSK setup filling the IPSec identifier with group and IPSec pre shared key with the shared password. I didn't need to use the advanced section.
I just basically went through each setup option until I hit the right combination.
That worked! Thanks. Now is there a way to get around requiring a passcode to unlock the phone?
good god that was so much easier than setting up my transformer for this. thanks everyone for the guidance. Any idea if there's a widget that will just turn a specific vpn on/off?
I'm using a Cisco IPSEC VPN concentrator. with PSK auth.
I'm able to connect but i can't route any traffic.
When i connect from my desktop i use to get a /24 IP with a default gw, when connecting from my phone all i get is a /32 ip and no default gw

Ad hoc wifi network connectivity?

Is there a script or app or ROM that will enable Ad hoc network connectivity with WEP security?
In my classroom I have a mac sharing its wired connection over its wireless card - instant wi-fi. Until recently it has been unsecured and I connected my phone to the network via wi-fi.
Recently I've had to add a WEP password as students have discovered the SID. Now my Samsung won't connect. It sees it just fine but won't connect even with the password.
Please Advise how to make the connection.
Thx.
Aww man! No help on this?
To recap - I can see and join ad hoc wifi network when there is no WEP security in place. When I add a password then I can see the network and try to join the network, but when I enter the password nothing happens. It thinks for a while and then it disconnects.
Any solutions? Or recommendations about what would be the correct forum to ask in?
Sounds weird, as our phones don't normally support connecting to ad-hoc WiFi at all. The only ROM that does support it as far as I know is Alien ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376482
I'm not sure how you managed to connect to ad-hoc in the first place, and if it's not ad-hoc then it should already support WEP out of the box.
I'm using the GingerSnap ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1418293
FiveOhFox, the dev, doesn't mention anything about adding this functionality but I've used it every day (Until I added the WEP and password).
Maybe I'm using the term adhoc incorrectly. This is a Mac, wired to our network via CAT-5 whose wireless card has had internet sharing turned on. This broadcasts a SID and allows wireless clients to share its internet connection - with our without WEP.

L2TP VPN Doesn't work on native MIUI 11.0.3

Hello everyone,
as noted in the title of this thread, I cannot connect to L2TP/IPSec VPN Server from my phone (Redmi Note 8 Pro, running MIUI 11.0.3 stock).
I've done extensive troubleshooting and appears that phone never even contacts the server. When i configure everything and toggle the VPN, it will try to connect but never does, and then times out.
I'm watching the logs on the server, nothing appears.
I'm watching tcpdump on the server, no packet is even received from phone.
I've connected to WiFi network from i which i know i can connect to VPN (for example from PC or my MikroTik router) and it cannot even connect from that network.
I've enabled packet sniffer on root MikroTik router to sniff the packets, filtering MAC address of my phone, and guess what... When i click on VPN, it doesn't even try to connect to VPN serever. VPN server IP address doesn't even appear on sniff.
I'm wondering why is this happening, is anyone else having issues with L2TP/IPSec VPN? How do i inform Xiaomi of this issue since I've placed couple of feedbacks back in the day, never received an answer and those issues still persists so i don't even thing they are reading the feedback that is sent to them from phone app.
Hoping to get to the bottom of this!
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Any chance you can try the OpenVPN app? I used to have an issue with my old phone where sometimes it would say connected but it wouldn't be. With the rn8pro, OpenVPN works every time.
Edit: try posting on the Mi forums for a better chance of a response from someone at Xiaomi
https://c.mi.com/global/forum-2234-1.html
Might not just be Xiaomi....https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEtherVPN/issues/571
I would hate having two VPN servers installed at the same time. There are times when i want to connect my root mikrotik router to VPN server i question to forward all web traffic via VPN, unfortunately, OpenVPN support is very limited on MikroTik , there are new cipher suites missing and with new OpenVPN servers in place it's impossible to connect tik to OpenVPN.
I know however that OpenVPN app works great with android, but it's weird that native L2TP doesn't seem to be working at all.
I could fall back to PPTP maybe. Both Android and MikroTik works flawlessly with PPTP. But... It's PPTP..
Thanks, i will try posting to Xiaomi forums as well.
