GoGo Internet - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

Can anyone pull the GoGo hotspot app from the Vibrant. I'm going on a flight and rather use the app's 30 free trial. If anyone has it, that would be great. thanks

[Q] GPRS/Bandwidth monitor?

The only one I found is "GPRS Monitor", which looks excellent, but doesn't work on Galaxy S...
Anyone knows a similar program that works on Galaxy S ?
I'm using 3g Watchdog works well.
I'm fine with DroidStats for the moment. You could also try Call Meter NG or Plan Monitor Widget. If you're just lookin' for traffic stats, i think 3G Watchdog is the way to go. There are several more, I think.
I use 3G watchdog as well, its all you need!
NetCounter also does the job
Using 3g Watchdog as well but is there an app which measures how many minutes one has been on 3G?
I am testing now Smart Monitor Lite. It is monitoring Mobile and Wi-fi Traffic( daily and monthly)Banwdwidth not suported. Available at Market

To my knowledge minutes aren't the issue with regards to 3G, only the bandwidth that you eat dictates how much money your network provider takes out of your bank account.
Installed 3g watchdog....works fine, thx

Try googling the netcounter-0.14.1.apk. It is free.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, will try the other apps you guys posted. I know its the amount of data that you use while surfing with 3G is what your going to get billed for but where I come from, they have promos wherein there is a flat rate/cost for 15 mins of 3G usage.
Currently I use 3G watchdog. But it doesnt exactly serve my purpose.
My plan gives me 1GB day time free usage and 5GB night time free usage in a month.
Day time = 7am-11pm
Night time = 11pm-6.59am.
So basically I get billed if I cross 1GB during day time (over a month) or 5GB during night time.
Does anyone here know of any app that can keep time-of-the-day based data counters. Basically, I need 2 counters which keep logging activity based on different timings.
Please let me know if you know such an app.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] automatic WiFi, any good apps?

Folks,
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with automatic WiFi switching apps? Basically after something that works on the desire with froyo. What I want it to do is poll the available WiFi networks every so often (say hourly) to see if my home network is avaiable, and connect if it is.
What do the demon hordes of xda suggest to try, or avoid?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Tasker is a app that can do that, and much more.
http://tasker.dinglisch.net
On there site you can download it, try it for a week and if you like it buy it. It's a rater expensive app but it has a lot of possibilities. There is also a market version but that has no trial.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into it. Do you use this? If so, what for? Looks like there's tonnes of ability that I don't think I'd use.
Any other auto WiFi experience out there?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yeah it's true that for only wifi on at home it's a expensive app but i don't know any other ones.
And yes I use it, for now i have:
Wifi at home
Flight mode on, auto sync off and low brightens at night
5 minutes before my alarm goes off i turn flight mode off, brightness to auto again, wifi on and autosync back on
GPS turns on when opening maps or navigation
When there is a appointment in my school calendar my phone goes on vibrate during that time
When i open my terminal emulator it prompts the keyboard input method
This is after two weeks of using the app and there are a lot more possibility, they also have a wiki with example apps and some tutorials you can look at.
Y5 battery will do it for your home network, on market.

I thought the Desire automatically does this with no 3rd party apps? All the OP is saying that they want to connect to a WiFi connection when it's available (as opposed to performing some action).
Or did I miss something??

I suspect that the OP wants an app that switches off WiFi, and only switches it on again when in range of a "known" WiFi network.
This is essentially what Y5 does - it only works if you have a cellular signal at that location, and basically when the WiFi network connection is lost it looks at the cell id and if it has changed turns WiFi off. When you get back into range of that cell again, it will switch WiFi back on again.

Wireless tether

I've tried searching, but cannot find anything. Does this, or will this work? Seems when I try, Verizon wants to charge me for it. And I already pay them more than I'd like..

Barnacle, or Lite? Barnacle won't work, says error. Those are the only 2 showing up in the market. Or is it available somewhere else. Help is greatly appreciated here!!

Are you using the Wireless Tether from market or one of the betas from Google Code?
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Tried downloading about 9 times, all unsuccessful. Went to a site that redirects me to the Market, and it says it's unavailable. LTE version, so maybe Verizon is preventing it. Obviously I am rooted, but has anyone else non-GSM been able to get this working?

Download link if anyone's still looking: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta10.apk
I have used the last three versions.
1st one "WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-beta9 *** BETA *** " dropped out here and there and would not shut down. Had to go to force close to get it to turn off.
2nd one "WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-pre113 *** EXPERIMENTAL *** Experimental was OK but when I shut it down my phones wireless icon would come back grayed out and not work and I would have to toggle it to get back to normal.
3rd and current to date "WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-beta10 *** BETA *** Featured" fixed the problem in the 2nd one. Seems OK, need to run it more. I love the 4G speed connections.
See my phone config in my sig...
I've been following a thread on the tether developer forum, even beta 10 is still sketchy. http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/issues/detail?can=2&q=1257&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Priority%20Milestone%20Owner%20Summary&id=1257
Here's the thread. Basically there's still "dropouts" both in the data stream itself, and in the wifi access point "disappearing" from the device that is tethering to it (wifi network disconnects and device can't see it to reconnect until wifi tether is turned off and back on.) Hoping for fixes soon.
If you're willing to throw down $10, Wifi and USB Tether is working fine for me. It doesn't even require root somehow.

Yeh, same here but loving it on 4G speeds. I get 30 minutes or so before it drops and getting better at getting it back fast.
Remember we are beta pigs so............. enjoy.
Extended Controls bypasses the subscription dial-in. Plus, you get a really good power control widget that you can even dock in the notification bar. 99 cents on the market, well worth it. Stock 4.0.2. GN LTE no root.

Wifi tether works great. I've pushed 600mb through it with no trouble at all. Tethering with LTE is awesome.
I loaded the 115 experimental today and like how it closes much cleaner with my WiFi icon reappearing and re-enabling promptly.
I'll test it for longevity tomorrow.

So how does this happen? And besides getting my next bill, how can I be sure they aren't charging me for it? I installed the EC app, and it does work. So thanks!

Because the phone connects through the same access point for tethering and mobile use. There's no way for VZW to tell what you're doing unless they packet sniff your traffic. That's a lot of work that's not going to make them anywher near enough money to justify the efort of doing it then billing you (and taking your complaint call when you dial the CSR's)unless you're being a pest and pulling down 50+GB on LTE, or 20GB+ on 3G. They could, but won't unless your usage sticks out.
That's why there's a dial-in in the first place. It's easier to set up a paywall on-device (even if it's easily by-passed by those in-the-know) than to build and staff a network-wide monitoring system that might even catch fire from the Feds over privacy concerns.
I'm running pre110 and I can't seem to connect to https sites. Normal http sites work fine.
EDIT: Beta 10 work on both. I was able to connect to FB and my bank.
Keep in mind if your rooted you don't need the google betas.

Q is barnacle or other really giving me free wifi tethering?

Pretty excited about the promotion that starts ont he 25. Reminds me of free wifi calling and how they told no one but if you specifically asked for it that put it on your account.

good luck finding a rep who will add it just like free wifi calling
Back to the original post and the question asked.
I'm running Juggernaut as well. Is there a way to get free wifi tethering? Furthermore, data speeds are terrible through tether, but decent on the phone. That is, I can download a 385mb file from Dropbox in about 10 minutes or less (I didn't waste my data by testing the download of the whole file). However, tethered to my laptop, I cannot even get the main Google web page to load reliably, much less download a file.
Another example. Netflix plays fine on the phone, impossible with a tethered laptop.
Any suggestions? Yes, I've done my searching. I've seen others complaining of the same problem, but no clear solutions. Only possible solution is to use TB to uninstall and re-install Tether Manager (a solution posted for Zombie, BTW, not Juggernaut). However, under Juggernaut I don't see Tether Manager listed under TB in order to uninstall and re-install.
Hope this makes sense. Any help is appreciated.

Okay, I kept looking and found a solution that appears to be working. I downloaded Open Garden Wifi Tether. That fixed the connection and bandwidth problems. Streaming HD Netflix on tethered laptop without a hitch, but I still get these annoying pauses and delays before data transfer starts. After as much as a 1-2 minute delay the video stream begins buffering and the video plays.
I think that is a t-mobile data thing, not a 4g or GS2 problem.
I also noticed that Speedtest routes to a server in D.C. and I'm in Jacksonville, FL. I manually reset to servers here in Jacksonville, but that resulted in abysmal scores.
Ah well, the quest continues. Next thing to sort out is to find someway to make calls without using minutes (Skype? Google Voice?).
Hope this helps someone else. Also, I'm open to any helpful input.

Solved. I think
A tmo Rep told me that it would be free if I was using barnacle. My speeds are great honeslty. You can also go through USB or blutletooth but this seems gayest with barnacle. Barnacle is free also
You can also get no throttle if you replace some things using root explorer but there are whole threads for that

Netflix blocked?

Hello all.
I used the trevmod to get tethering working on my device and everything up until today has been working great and could access everything with just the user agent mod.
But today I got the dreaded push message about tethering when watching netflix and doing homework. Web browsing still worked but my netflix stopped.
Has anyone else noticed that netflix is being blocked from tethering somehow now?
Anyone possibly know a way arround it?
I have installed hotspot shield on my phone and that didn't seem to make a difference.
It's not Netflix specific.
I've been throttled pretty much for the last couple months. Nav and cyan Pandora. Went out of town. Netflix takes up more data than Google
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Not so much that it's throttled but actually blocked desktop streaming some how.
I started streaming ok then got the push message to my phone saying it was blocked.
Like somehow, even with user agent string being changed, it counted the streaming data of Netflix toward the free 100 mb before blocking even though never did before.
But yet, with user agent being changed, the web browsing itself never got blocked.
Even with the default ie9 user agent wasn't blocked either. Just Netflix streaming.
No one else has seen this?
I tried again today and in a different area just to make sure was not a fluke and had the same problem.
So now one else that does the work arround onT-Mobile tethering has noticed their netflix streaming is somehow blocked?
Tethering still works perfectly fine it is just the netflix that don't work.
Download hotspot shield vpn on the android market and run the vpn on ur phone. Connect with trev mod like normal and you wont need the user agent switcher. The way it works is it blocks tmobile from seeing the type of data you are using and they wont know you are tethering.
