I have spent the last week looking for a good 16gb class 6 card, but so far everything I find has reviews of them being slow or dying fairly quickly.
Is anything over class 2 just unreliable? Is there any company that makes a decent 16gb class 6?
What are your experiences? Any recommendations?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I've had my SanDisk for about a year and a half with no issue. It's not ridiculously fast or anything but has been reliable.

I have the same one. It's fast enough, but I've only had it a week, so I can't attest to it's long-term reliability yet,
It partitioned just fine and is working perfectly with Fresh and Darktremor Apps2sd.

I've had mine since late June and I have had no problems with it. *knocks on wood*
Thanks Everyone!
I think I'm going to try the Transcend or maybe a Sandisk Mobile Ultra if i can find a good price.
If there's ever a chance you'd want to do apps2sd or apps2ext (on the sdcard) then Kingston is a BIG fail. More times than not it gives issues. I've experienced this first hand and if you Google around for a while you'll see lots of android issues with Kingston's (which I did after running into speed issues with apps2ext).
SpaceMonkey.....
the problem is the very nature of the beast. a MicroSDHC card, at this point in time is just not capable, for the most part, of what we call Class 6 speeds.
I personally have not tried the Sandisk 16gb C6 card but i use their SD and CF cards in my canon dSLR's and though you pay a premium you get what you paid for. if you can handle the $60 bucks for one grab the one from Newegg.
i highly highly doubt you will see C6 speeds, the technology of C6 mSDHC just isnt there, but i would wager it is faster than all the others. and more reliable.

do all brands have to conform to the class 6 standards?? b/c topram class 6 cards (16gb) are ridiculously inexpensive...just check out amazon or elsewhere.

I'm looking at upgrading the stock 8GB class 2 card that came with the Evo. 32GB are a little pricey still, and I'd like to have a little more storage since I'm upgrading, so I'm looking at 16GB cards. I saw this from Amazon. Decent price too. Any suggestions out there? I'd like something that would be fast enough for if/when the video recording issue gets resolved. I'm not sure about ebay because I've read that people get crappy cards that don't write to said capacity and poor write/read speeds. But if you bought from ebay and it worked out for you, post a link of what you bought!
I recommend this card. It is rated as a class 2, but performs better than most class 6 cards. It has impressive benchmark results and works well in dedicated HD camcorders. Check the link in this thread to Slickdeals for review: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715012

Nice find! Benchmark on it basically doubles that of the Sandisk 8GB CL2 that came with my EVO benched @ Write: 2.8MB/S and Read: 6.6MB/S.
In addition, I still have a store credit of $17 from 2007..basically free after rebate. Lol.

Definitely not worth the risk. I've read a lot of mixed reviews from the card only reading 2GB, to constant errors, and eventually failure within weeks/months.

$90 bucks, no thanks. Especially when a decent Class 6 is $40.
I bought the pny 16gb class 2 from best buy. I'll find link later. It writes at about 7.5 mbps, and sdcard test rates it class 8.

Browsing newegg i found this card, Never heard of this brand. Anyone have any experience before? Class 10 for a 32gb micro sd seems like a real good deal to me.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...11&cm_re=micro_sd_32gb-_-20-161-411-_-Product
That's incredibly fast indeed. The class thingy is official, because it's just as an official label as an Full HD TV is Full HD. So you can't doubt about that.
How many formats it will survive is the question, but I think the quality of SD cards doesn't matter so much anymore (except the classes)
I am wondering about that as well. It says it has a lifetime warranty so that's great. Also I found this at Fry's (32GB MICRO SDHC CLASS 10, PATRIOT PSF32GMCSDHC10) for $109.99
I just bought two WINTEC 32GB Micro SDHC Class 10 cards at Fry's Electronics today, and so far they're working very well in both my Viewsonic G-Tablet and Samsung Galaxy Tab.
I haven't had time to benchmark the card(s) yet, but there's quite a noticeable difference in the performance of my Samsung Galaxy Tab.
So Far - So Good...
Well, based on just the reviews I've read on Newegg recently for Wintec-branded cards, I'd have to avoid them myself.
I was looking at the 16GB version of the card you're looking at now (Item=N82E16820161405), from Wintec and a Class 10. The feedback appears mostly negative, with many complaints about the card not functioning at all when the customer received it, several about it's speeds diminishing over time (under 6 months), several more about data corruption and/or complete failure occuring within a few months, and one unsettling one about Wintec blaming the customer for damage/abuse and refusing to honor their "Lifetime Warranty."
I can't speak from personal experience, and customer reviews are not 100% reliable, but there are enough people on Newegg dissatisfied with their Wintec MicroSD card to convince me to purchase another brand.
I have two of the 16GB Class 10 cards and they both are working pretty well. One is in my Nookcolor and the other in my Nexus One. Benchmarks were 18.7Mb/sec sequential read and 16.7Mb/sec sequential write. It's a good price and works well so if you are on a budget or just don't want to spend too much money for a card I would recommend these. Hope that helps.
Saw this on newegg for a pretty good price, a class 10 32GB card for $76 sounded good to me. While there are a few bad reviews I don't hold much stock in newegg buyers tbh. They aren't always the most technically proficient individuals and I always like to try things myself anyway. I'll be more than happy to fight to return the thing if it turns out to be bad. Hard to pass up this kind of thing .
Here's the newegg link in case anyone is interested. Mine will get here Tuesday so I will post back with a benchmark. Fingers crossed.
EDIT: After some google searching about similar cards from this company I found a thread on this forum about the 16GB model: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830491
If you skip to the last page you can see the OP and others had some problems with it. I figure I will stress the crap out of it when I get it, try and find any problems before the clock runs out on returns. I'll probably just write to the the entire card, read it all back, then erase and repeat until something bad happens. Im sure doing it this way I can recreate a month or two of use in just a day or so.
I just ordered on of these yesterday from newegg, I'll be sure to report back how well it works in my SGS once I receive it!

What file system did you use for those devices? I'm not sure what I should format my 32gb card as for my Droid 2. So far from what I have read from google searches it seems android doesnt support exFAT or NTFS which means no large file support :/. I could format it to ext3 or something but that would mean I couldnt use it on windows. Not sure what to do.
EDIT: Well I've been reading and writing to the whole card all day and so far no problems. Writes at 15MB/s and reads back at 20MB/s, pretty good. No corruption or slowdowns at all.

sandisk
adata

I have been running one and while it is not stellar I get decent speeds with it. The write speed is 9.4 MB/s and the read speed is 19.9MB/s according to the sdtools app. It is noticeably faster than the class 2 card I was using. I have it formatted with fat32.
Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone has bought the Patriot 16gb class 10 card. I would really like to know how it worked out for you. I just got my Wintec 16gb class 10 and it crapped out within 3 days.
Im using the wintec 16gb c10 for over a month now, no problems
You do knows its got a lifetime warranty, you may have just gotten a bad one.

Were those speeds while in the Evo, or just using a card reader? I've been keeping an eye on this thread [here] that says the SD card speed is limited in the Evo and can be fixed fairly easily.
Those are in my evo with that hack applied..
I just ran it again and got 7write/17read, the program still says it indicates to be a Class 6 card.. My computer is too old to even recognize the stupid card so I can't test it on it...
That being said, I have apps2sd and running Dalvic cache on SD and it seems still be pretty snappy..

I'm using the Patriot LX Series 32GB/Class 10 with the 1024-value zip write/read speeds of 18/20. I formatted it on my phone and it's been working fine.
Im using wintec 16GB class 10 for about 3 weeks, no issues.
Picked it up at Tiger Direct for 33bucks.
Speed on EVO Read 14 and Write is 10
I have the Patriot 16GB class 10 and I am running MikFroyo 4.5. Been over a month and no problems related to the SD card.
My Patriot 16GB class 10 died today. Just like that. Phone or pc won't recognize the card, and I can't return to Fry's since its after 15 days. Complete POS.
Almost two months with my patriot class ten getting heavy use w/ dta2sd w/ dalvik on SD using swap space too. Getting 12/22 write/read speeds.
From what I've read quality and consistency aren't very good on any of the budget-priced class tens. Adata cards have the best guaranteed speeds, patriot has great customer service reviews but the only one I looked up without a crap-ton of reports of bad cards was Kingston and they were pricier than the others.

Agreed 100%. Those who get a good Patriot are very happy, consider yourself lucky.
Fingers crossed, mine's still going strong...
My Patriot 16 GB class 10 died completely after one month. Sent it back to Patriot 2 weeks ago, still waiting for a replacement. While it worked, it worked great 12mbs+ read speeds on in my Evo. Made the phone a snappy performer, totally obvious when I went back to the stock card, which sucks, but works. Hope the replacement, assuming I get one, is as fast as the one that died but more reliable.
Latest benchmark result (SD Tools v1.8) of Patriot LX 32GB Class 10:
PS: this is the same card that i bought on February 2011, still working flawlessly.
Got my replacement card from patriot. Been three days. so far, so good. Hope this one lasts as it makes my phone significantly faster than the stock card.
so, which would be the best, most stable class 10 micro sdhc card? i can't seem to find a definitive answer, as everyone seems to complain about the cards not being a "true class 10", etc. there are only a few reviews on newegg,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ... 600006235 600082443&IsNodeId=1&name=Class 10
and amazon, a bunch of people complain about the speed ratings mot being true.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...32gb+micro+sd+class+10&ie=UTF8&qid=1318260310
which one do you guys have experience with, and would recommend? the kingstons are just out of the question, as i doubt that they'd be worth twice the coin.
It would be nice if you narrow it down to specific cards.
Although there is to note that most people do not need anything past a class 4 which is more than enough to handle day to day transfer between phone and card.
Sandisk seems to be a darkhorse here since they don't really show you a class number and it ranges from 2 - 6 mbps. The best way is to simply test it out with a SD card testing program.
thanks for the response. specifically, i like the PNY and SanDisk, but like you said, sandisk is secretive about their speeds. i don't want to buy, test the speeds, and return if i'm not happy with it. and is class 10 not required for recording HD video on our phones? thanks again
nah, class 10 is not required to record HD video. besides if i remember correctly, the dz only records up to 720p. you should still be fine unless you're shooting a 20 minute video.
There are some reports from people with various issues with Class 10 cards. Its not widespread by any means (plenty of people here seem fine with their Class 10), but it seems that Class 10 have more issues than lower Classes. So some here will recommend Class 4 or 6 (can't remember which) as the highest you should get.
I'd stay far away from PNY if I were you. I've owned 2 PNY products. Not Micro-SD, but an SD card and a USB thumb drive. On the thumb drive, the USB port and memory chip pulled/broke right out of the plastic casing with regular use (not damaged in any way). The thing just looked and felt flimsy. But I needed one in a hurry for a business trip, and I bought what the store had. I figured, its a USB thumb drive, you can get these things for free. How bad can it be? And I was shocked when the thing actually broke apart after a few weeks.
Similarly, the PNY SD card I have split into 2 pieces (along its seams). In both cases (PNY thumb drive and SD card), the memory chip itself still worked fine, and it was just a matter of using some super glue to hold together the plastic casing that failed. But it just displays shoddy and cheap build quality. I own 3 Sandisk Micro-SD cards, and a couple Sandisk SD cards and thumb drives. Never had an issue with any of them, and build quality is much better than PNY.
There is a long thread in accessories with SD recommendations:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042324
DUDE! I had the same problem with the PNY thumb-drive! It was the attache series I think. Anyways yea stick to well known brands that are consistently rated high, sandisk, kingston, adata, etc. Honestly though, class 6 would probably be the fastest you'd need unless your gonna be taking extremely high quality pictures at a very fast speed lol aka multi-shot. But then again I'm not sure our phone is even up too that anyways lol.
I have an ADATA 16GB Class 10 from newegg. Has given me zero issues. I would imagine this is probably the same for the 32gb version.
Not sure if the 32GB would hold up. I found out that I'm not that big of a packrat on the size of the SDcard, so I went with a 16gb instead of paying more for space I'd never use, or take years to accumulate.
h2testw 1.4 log after testing it out when I received it:
Warning: Only 15786 of 15787 MByte tested.
Writing speed: 15.1 MByte/s
Reading speed: 18.5 MByte/s
It was definitely a step up from the 4GB class 4 kingston I was previously using, which was getting write speeds of around 5-6mb/sec. After moving onto the Adata, I noticed speedier loading in the photo gallery like night and day. It used to take 2-3 seconds to load the gallery, especially if it was a big picture folder. Now it takes literally milliseconds to load the content. Of course, this may just be anecdotal and placebo effect, but my general experience with android and sdcards for the last 3 years is on the line about it.
actually i retract the kingston comment, i think they had problems with 32gb class 10 cards specifically now that i recall...

I'm thinking of getting a class 4 myself, don't feel like paying almost +100% for class 10. I'll probably get an A-Data, as it gives a decent price per GB. I'm just torn between 16 and 32 GB
As for Kingston, I think the quality of their products went down a lot in the last two years.

If you look through the thread I linked on my previous response, you will see there are some folks that claim more data corruption issues with 32 Gb cards versus smaller capacities. It seems purely anecdotal. But my point is, don't assume.

For me I bought this off ebay ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/380405008880?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 ) and it has been working great for me. I loaded it up to about 28Gig and had no trouble. Currently I have 10gig free.
I've got the Sandisk 32gb class 10.
But the one from Samsung seems great.
The SanDisk 64GB MicroSDXC is also fully compatible despite the device being a sdhc device. Apparently the protocol differences lie on code and not on hardware.

Hi everyone. I'm looking to buy a 32GB microSD card to store some music and ROMs and I need some advice on how to find good ones for cheap. I don't really want to go over $25 really so I'm not really looking for Class 10 or anything. But what I don't want is a Class 2. I have found 2 cards that may be good. Can anyone recommend one of these or possibly even something else?
SanDisk Class 4 - $19.99

Polaroid Class 10 - $24.99

Kingston Class 4 - $24.99

Why is the Class 10 Polaroid so cheap? I'm inclined to go for the SanDisk because it's cheap and a good brand and I've also heard that SanDisk is known for having higher write speeds than advertised. Any advice is appreciated.,

About 6 months ago i sprung for a genuine Samsung class 10 32GB SD for my ET4G and i paid about $40 with free shipping from amazon. I got the class 10 because i shoot HD video in 720 and 1080 and i wanted to make sure it had the xfer rate to handle it. If all you're doing is storing files like music and pictures or roms then class 4 is fine. I just bought that SanDisk 32GB for my OG Galaxy tab and its working great. Granted i only read books/manga and listen to music with it and they work great.
I hope this helps in some way towards your decision.

Thank you very much - it does help with my decision. I just want to store my music and some root stuff on it. I'm sick of using Google Music because it drains my battery life streaming from the cloud.
I'd highly suggest going with the absolute fastest you can find.
Why? Because media scanner will run and run and run and run and run, forever, sucking up your battery if you have lots of music files.
I went from a class 4 to a class 10 and it was a huge difference with many photos and MP3 files.
I got 3 of the Polaroid class 10s on sale last month for 19 each. Running fine on my s2 and wife's s3.
I'll just leave this here...

^Explains a lil about why i bought a Class 10^

This is the creme de la creme of SD cards. The best deals can be had on ebay for around 30 bucks. If you get it off ebay, make sure the seller has a good rating and it says OEM, because many people try to sell fakes.

This one looks pretty good. Idk if I should spend on getting the top of the top though... I only need something for music/file storage.

What type of speeds are you getting? Trying to figure out if it's genuinely Class 10 or if the SanDisk Class 4 is better
i have a patriot 32gig class 10 using the sdtools from google play i get a bench mark of 6mb write, and read of 11mb/s
i just got my brand new Sandisk 32gig U1 series.. its suppose to be fast.. But
using the same app
my write is still 6 but my read is at 8
I feel i wasted money...
Saw at walmart class 6 32gb for 33.88
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I picked up a legit Samsung class 10 32 gb card off eBay a month or two ago for $26 shipped, I would keep an eye on eBay were I you, I got a great deal and am very happy with the card, I'm glad I went with class 10 as well, I've developed an obsession with fpse and roms copy over to it like instantly and I can store a ton of em

I had a class 2 sandisk 16 gb- bought a sandisk class 4 32gb for 11.50 on ebay- GENUINE- in an auction- free shipping- Its good enough- then get the app rom toolbox- speed up your sd reader to 2048- and now you have all that you could ever need- unless you shoot hd video- then get class 10- ( stay away from cheesy brands- the rating may be fudged.. pay for class 10- and getting a lower rating and quality.
I have been using a TOPRAM Class 10 32GB micro SD for about 2 years now, and I have had ZERO issues. I have used it in three different phones, it has been partitioned and formatted many times, wiped, and had a constant amount of data going on, and off of it during the period I have had it, and It still continues to serve me perfectly. they run around $30 with free shipping on Ebay. i was skeptical at first, but after a couple years, it is still the best micro SDHC I have ever owned.
Thank you guys for the advice. I know it sounds stupid but I don't really want to pay $30 for a microSD card, even if it is Class 10 and only $10 more than what I'm looking for. I think I'm just gonna get the SanDisk Class 4 because I'm mainly using it just music storage and ROMs. I'm still keeping an eye out for good deals on eBay though for Samsung Class 10's but most of those seem fake coming from Hong Kong lol.
I just had my 16gb PNY class 10 fail on me, taking out about 200 pictures since I procrastinated on regularly backing it up. I don't think I'll ever use PNY again, beware if you do. When this card was being on sale at bestbuy last year, other people had reported odd issues with theirs but I thought it was just a coincidence. Guess not.
NOTE: Polaroid memory cards are made by PNY.
I have bought 4 of these from this seller. He is not on known fake sources even though in China. Great feedback score and only 15.99 SHIPPPED! He is almost out!

Listing has ended And by known fake sources do you mean that he is for sure not fake? Or are you just saying that he is assumed to sell legit ones because he is not on the list?

Little of both. He is not listed and has been doing EBAY for over a year. Thats a good sign. The better sign is all 4 I received test perfect and do not show the poor ink blotching and off color plastic as fakes. So I feel fairly confident. When fakes are being sold the negative reviews stack p fast. I just looked and it said 3 left? He may get more I hope.
I did search and another seller with them at 23.95 and they are not on negative list. I have not seen them so do not want to refer you if fake. But no negative reviews and also solid account.
