LauncherPro PLUS question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is likely a noob question, but I couldn't find the answer.
If I get LauncherPro from the market, then it's v0.8.1.0, but it's NOT the PLUS version.
The plus version that the developer's site has is 0.6xxx.
Do I need to get that PLUS version and then upgrade to 0.8xxx? Or am I totally off base?
Thanks.

I have plus and it's 0.8.1. I had to download the app from the market, and put in a code that was emailed to me when I made my payment and that unlocked it, no further updating was needed aside from the regular maintenance updates that the dev puts out. I upgraded to plus a few months ago, so I'm not sure if the dev is handling it the same way anymore.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

Correct you just put the code in from that email to unlock the plus inside the normal app..
All I do is backup my configuration and just restore it whenever I switch ROM's etc and it will restore your code also

WaveSecure - Free for Life/Device Lifetime Android Only

Hey guys, thought you might all find this sueful as I have and I find the pplication to run very well.
http://wavesecure.com
http://m.wavesecure.com - Anyone brosing on their phone can get it straight.
Or alternatively check the Market for it ...
I'm guessing it has to be installed on the phone before March 31 to get the free for lifetime offer, so for those of us still waiting for our Desires it won't be free.
However, I am unsure how much use this app has, since a hard reset is always an option. After that, the phone can be sold (or used) "as new" by the perp. Granted, your personal data is safe in this case, but to make the phone unuseable, you'll have to get the IMEI banned with the network.
Hardreset seems to be the only way to remove it but then again how many people get a phone and hardreset it before it even boots?
If you're quick enough and the person is slow enough you may be able to get the location of the phone.
As it's free I thought it might help even a little in such situations ...
The end date is a major shame . The good think is though it works on other devices, may be possible to ask them to transfer from one device to another.
A knowledgeable thief would probably do a hard reset, but at least your personal data (that is not on the memory card, that is) is safe that way.
I've sent them an email asking about the end date and whether it has to be installed on the phone before that date to be valid. I'll report back when/if I get an answer.

There is an app on the Market to combat this, if you uninstall either it will lock and you need to put your pin in ...
Hey guys,
I figured out how I can get WaveSecure for free before the end date and without having the Desire yet. Basically I have a dual boot with Android on my Diamond 2 and I installed WaveSecure on that from the Android market and registered my phone and SIM with it. When you go on the WaveSecure website, login to your account then go settings and there is a disconnect option. From there you can disconnect the current phone from the account and connect a new one. So when I buy a SIM free desire I will put my current SIM in it and change the device from the website.
Hope this helps some of you.
That's REALLY impressive. Nice find!
I downloaded the .apk using a Spoofed User Agent on Firefox to make the Wavesecure website believe I was browsing using the Android Browser.
I assume I would have to install this on an Android device to qualify me for the free subscription?

ChevronWP7 w/ side limit removed.

Has anyone used the no limit version of chevron over an phone that was allready activated w/ developer account? The reason I'm asking is will this give us the best of both worlds? Since the phone will be legally unlocked according to MS, but unlocked with unlimited # of sideloading apps.

If you are a normal dev, paid the $99, you can deploy 10 apps. I write a lot of apps that will never see the light of day, and I really don't have an issue with the 10 limit...
I haven't exchanged any apps with others, but if I do, I may have an issue then.

Yeah, I'm having trouble with the limit too. I'm afraid to run Chevron though because I don't want to mess up my legit dev unlock, and the source for Chevron is obfuscated and not worth digging through to figure out if it'd work.
I guess I should toss out, that waiting for a response I used chevron over my unlock. It had to relock, then took installed the cert and unlocked using chevron. I am thinking it will last because the unock is probally verifiying that we are in the MS dev database, not checking certs etc. I think that was an unforseen oversight. I will report any issues btw I am a student so I only get 3 apps. My 3 news readers took up the most part and my game I am deving wouldn't go on until I removed the limit.

You want to go to the topic which describes how to edit the registry. It is the easy one or you can find the Chevron which has side apps limit removed. I doubt that it still available. Both methods will allow unlimited side apps. Also, on the topic of how to edit registry, it also allow you to modify different stuff like preventing re-lock Chevron.

Remove limit of 10 unsigned app

I've finally reach 10 unsigned app on my phone. Took way longer that I thought...
This is not new for anyone who's not spending time asking for unlock key, but I've made a small app to automate the process of pushing the limit to 100000.
Here it is: http://bit.ly/qpVyR4
Work on my HTC, may work on other device as well (let me know).
Warning: At least one person had problem deploying app on his Samsung after running this app.
Edit: Updated version with rollback button (which already exists but was hidden )
this has been out for like a month now..... but good job of creating one!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875885
Exactly what I said... nothing new but packaged as a XAP
Advanced Configuration Tool for WP7 Beta
http://forum.touchxperience.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=590&p=2349
has an option to remove the limit, plus set as many colour schemes as you like, and add single registry keys directly.
Its still beta but works a treat so far on my HD2, and comes with about 50 colours for the theme, or input your own with hex codes.
This tools works only on HTC. Minne should work on Samsung too, maybe on LG.
But if you have an HTC, AdvConfig is probably easier to use.
I'm not spending much time making pretty app
I ran this earlier (along with setting the key manually before), and it doesn't work. I still was limited to 10 apps.
But now, frighteningly, I'm unable to deploy -some- apps from Visual Studio (limit reached). I have a real dev unlock, never messed with Chevron.
Thanks, (nico)! I've removed this (stupid!) limit on my Focus (officially unlocked), everything works fine including deployment/debug from VS 2010. Good job!

I'm also officially unlock.
Like with folks with Chevron, I think the limit will be reseted periodically by Zune.
What do you mean by "some" apps?
You can't install more than 10 apps?
Not sure what do you mean, but I'll try to answer.
Using (official) unlock method, you won't be able to deploy more than 10 unsigned apps. 3 if you have a student account.
Chevron also have the same 10 limit (because they intentionally keep MS limit).
This registry tweak try to remove that limit.
In either way, this don't modify the number of app you can install though Marketplace, which is not limited.

I set the key manually in the code Rusty released for the Samsung devices the other day. I wasn't able to deploy the 11th app via VS. I continued dealing with it until I got your XAP, I ran that yesterday and now sometimes I have trouble deploying in VS, even with <10 apps. Restarting VS and the phone doesn't have any effect.
Not that I'm blaming you or anything - just figured I'd note my experience. Some projects will still deploy, not sure of the pattern yet.
Thanks, that the kind of feedback I'm looking for. I'll add this to the first post to warn people.
If you have more infos, please share so we can have something more stable.
Thanks!

Look up the RRTool in this forum that I wrote, he is basically saying I rebranded the Chevron Tool as my own, even though my Tool runs on the device not from desktop and only prevents relocking, it doesnt actually unlock a device like chevron does. He only has 2 posts and tried to ruin my credability! Not Happy!
He is a lame troll. Don't pay attention. Thank you both guys! Great job!
P.S. Just a small remark: after using your tools (first I've tried (nico)'s tool, later (toady) RRTool. Both works good but behavior of VS 2010 a little bit changed. Now I can't deploy project via Zune - must close it first and use WPConnect.
Did you try to restore the original value (probably 10 for most users) and see what happends?
Nope, I didn't. Just have no time to browse for Samsung's registry editor or reflect back your's or lyriquidperfection app. Could you add an option to restore back an original values? Anyway, it's not a real problem. MS limitation of 10 app (or 3 for student account) it's just stupid and unfair. What, if I have more than 10(3) homebrew projects to debug and run? What, if I want to recreate all apps I need by myself? But of course the "MS greediness sux!" is not a topic for this thread

[Q] HTC one X in China - how to get the google play store

Hi!
I'll try to explain me as best as possible here about the 2 main issues I have with my One X.
I'm living in Shanghai, and I've bought it here, however, because of the stupid issues between Google and China, my One X doesn't have the Google play store.
I tried to dowmload it, and it doesn't launch, after a second or 2, I'm back to the main screen of my phone.
I contacted HTC, and they basically told me to use the Hiapk market, but it's extremely limited, and some apps won't work. For ex: downloading Foursquare through this parallel market is ok, but when it comes to the install, it would just tell me that the app can't be installed...
I asked HTC if it's possible to overcome these restrictions, as I'm french, and would certainly go back to France someday... Had no answer... As for foursquare, HTC told me to contact foursquare directly.
So, I would like to know if it is possible to change the OS of the phone to put one from anywhere else in the world where the play store is not factory censored, and if that would for example solve the foursquare issue (or any possible issue that I might have with other apps).
Sorry if I'm not using the good terms, but I just switched from IOS to android 3 weeks ago...
The warranty would certainly be void, but I'm up taking the risk as I can't use the phone for more than 2/3 games... I feel like I've just made an expensive mistake...
Thanks in advance for your help!
You can root it and install a custom rom on it that will give you access to the play store.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
How could I do that ? what does root exactly means ?
I'm new to android, and I'm not sure about what I should do. Did few research but I'm not sure about what I should pick and install on it.
I'm not looking for anything fancy, just the same OS but with the possibility to have the play store, I don't really want to overclock or change it at all levels.
Thanks for the answer!
Rooting is like "administrator" access on a PC, if that makes sense. You can install a custom ROM that looks like what you have now but with extra features. I think if you go in the development section there are a few threads you can look at that will help you root and install a custom ROM so you can access the play store. Goodluck
Will definitely give it a shot
Thanks for your help!

Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium

qtableau,
(and others behind the #@$!%* Great FireWall)
i live in SH as well,
Do yourself a really big favor! Get a VPN!
Rooted phones do nothing for websites that are blocked (which come and go).
A rooted phone is not a solution to blocked websites
&
Market Enabler, although a great app, can not be used to unblock websites, it merely tells the Android Market/Google play store you are using a different service provider so you can download apps not available in your country (to bypass the “This item is not compatible with your device” MSG) IE my China Unicom Device is displayed as "AT&T HTC Desire" in the play store
AND because almost every non-Chinese website in the world has a facebook, twitter, and a Google+ feed/rss button/, every time a non Chinese page loads the #@$!%* Great FireWall needs time to check it out before it loads, so without a vpn surfing on a mobile can be horrible.
I use a VPN service provided by 12vpn, you can use it with multiple computers and mobile devices simultaneously. It will change your life. I have it on 4 desktops, a laptop, an iphone and android phone.
And you can use it to access online content that is not available outside certain countries ie: i can access the online TV website hulu.com which is only available to US residents.
one caveat: you CAN'T use it on a computer that has a running a torrent program though...which sucks! You have to close the program before you can run the vpn but just on (i pretty sure this a 12vpn policy, other providers should let u use a torrent program simultaneously)`
Costs about 400RMB a year but freedom is PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!
Disclosure: I am 4 year customer of 12vpn.com and have no other interests/connections to the company
IMHO Chinese censorship is mostly a BUSINESS decision. Same as any governmental organization that requires a certain amount of local programming on TV or radio (FCC, CRTC,oxfam etc)
Hi! I was wondering if you found a solution? I have the exact same problem. I recently bought a Galaxy S3 and found out i cant access google play or any of the google apps. i downloaded the APK files and tried to install it, but they don't open at all. I'd love to hear how you solved (and hope you di!)

I found a solution by paying a bit more...
I gave up on trying to read all the tutorials on how to root phones and went to an electronic market in SH (where I live, if you do, go to xujiahui to do so)
For a hundred RMB, I got it changed to a hongkong OS, where everything is allowed and works great. Some updates not even available on the official one in China went with it. Hope it helps and that you'll be able to find a market near your place.
Basically, my advice for some other people reading this thread: Don't buy it in a real shop, go to a market, they're half the price, and already flashed to a "working" version... wish I'd known that
Play Store also don´t work with VPN cause the issue isn´t connection kind but factory blocked. So I wil go also the way to get my OS changed. Guess there´s a big risk of abortive flash so is there any possibility of orig. OS back up to be flashed back if any inconvience happen?
Pls help me
Hi, I do have the exact same problem with my Note2. I bought it in store in Beijing.
And now I'm stuck coz there's nothing more I could do without the Play Store.
How did you find the market? And What did you tell them?
Most of the chinese here cannot understand English so how can we tell them?
Please help me out with this.
Thank you.
download orbot.apk(requires root to fully function) or hotspotshield.apk look for them on google (how ironic), use them only when using market(they slow down the internet to some extent, but act as a proxy on your phone)

Hello guys!
If you have this kind of issues then the only thing you need to do is:
- Download FASTBOOT files, Google it, it should be 3 files. The size small. Make your own folder called "Android" on C: Drive. Put the files there.
- Unlock the Boot loader, go to your respective forums and find a way to unlock your device's Boot loader.
- Get ClockWorkMod recovery for your device, Google it, go to their website, search for newest version for your device, download.
- Put the .img file onto the "Android" folder.
- Enter Boot loader mode (For HTC it's POWER + Volume Down). Navigate using physical buttons, and Select FASTBOOT option.
- Flash it with CMD on Windows by using this command:
--- cd c:\Android
--- fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery_you_downloaded.img
--- fastboot erase cache
- Done all that, search for a custom ROM that's already pre-ROOTed and has built-in Kernel to avoid troubles like boot loops.
- Put that ROM onto your SD card, DO NOT EXTRACT THE ZIP.
- Enter Recovery by going into Boot loader mode
- Full Wipe/Factory Reset your phone through Recovery, then erase Cache through Recovery too.
- "Install zip from SD" card through Recovery, select the ROM.zip, select YES. Now wait.
- Voila, Democracy speaks for itself ;D
Thank me if i helped!

Dropbox 23GB Promotion - Workaround

For those who do not know, Dropbox has a promotion going on with HTC to give an addition 23gb of space for 2 years to people who use Sense 5. EXCEPT for whatever reason people on either Verizon or AT&T are not eligible for this promotion, which essentially means everyone here on the Verizon HTC One will not be able to get the free 25GB, at least that is how Verizon wants it to be.
I say F*** Y** Verizon, even though you do not want to give me the extra space, I am going to trick you into giving it to me and whoever else wants it!!
The workaround method I discovered is all thanks to Newtoroot and the amazing roms he releases!!
To get the 23gb of Dropbox space you will need to download Newts "[ROM] NOS v1.0.2 HTCOneVZW [JB 4.2.2 & Sense 5] 9/5/2013*GSM carrier support" ~*Links are at the bottom*~. There are two versions of the rom, one is to connect with Verizon's network and the GSM one is to connect with GSM networks, to get the dropbox promotion you need to download the GSM one. Even if you are on Verizon, you still want to download the GSM rom and install it. I can assure you that you will have no problems installing Newts GSM rom, the only thing that will not work is anything that requires you to be connected to a carrier network. During the installation of the ROM you will be given a lot of options for what you want installed and what you dont, the only thing you really need to have installed is Dropbox.
After the install, proceed with going through the phone setup, you *HAVE TO* connect to wifi for internet because you will not be able to connect to 3g or 4g. During the phones setup when you come to accounts page with GMail, Exchange, etc etc, you should see an option for Dropbox, click that. After logging in and clicking through the screens that come up such as the Camera Upload feature. Once you get to your list of folders in your Dropbox app, you should have an additional 23 gigs. You will get an email from Dropbox confirming the addition of 23 gigs to your account for 2 years.
After you get you have confirmed you received the additional 23gigs, all that is left to do is restore a nandroid backup or re-install your favorite rom and get back to business as usual with your phone, except now you have
If you do not have a Dropbox Account, use this link to create one - Sign Up for Dropbox- using this link will give you an additional 0.5 gigs of free space. Outside of this promotion, there are other ways to get free space from Dropbox, most of those ways are permanent additions to your account. Referral for example can get you a max of 16 gigs of free space, 0.5 gigs for you and the person you refer.
Here are some links, first is the official promotion website, next is confirmation you will receive after you log in to dropbox with the GSM rom, and the third link is to Newts ROM that makes all this possible, make sure you download the GSM version and hit "Thanks".

I wonder why VZW and AT&T aren't eligible...?
My guess would be because their combined customer base is like 200+ million so a LOT of people would be getting free 25GB and that would cut into Dropbox profits.
Anyway... Awesome! Good info

Guaranteed the workaround isn't actually this hard. My guess is that all you have to do is edit a system file to make Dropbox think the One is another phone. This system file is called the "build.prop", and is found at /system. I don't have either ROM downloaded but I'm pretty sure that if you look at the build.prop from the GSM ROM and the build.prop from the VZW ROM, there is a value that is different probably titled something like ro.product.model in that build.prop file. If you just edit the build.prop on any ROM to what it is on the GSM ROM (or for that matter, any phone that is eligible for this promotion), this workaround should still work.
Again, I haven't tried this, and all of this is me just speculating, but this is how we got access to similar promotions back when I had my Thunderbolt. If someone wants to look for the value in the build.prop for the GSM ROM and post it up here, I bet other people who are unlocked could just do it the easy way.
Thank you. It worked great!
While I have little knowledge of how android roms work, I do want to try and learn how to make something like Papasmurf's idea of editing the build.prop to allow the promotion of work. With any luck I can provide instructions that will allow more roms to receive the Dropbox Promotion. I think it some bureaucratic bull**** that only some carriers support a promotion like this. What could Verizon possibly have to lose by letting their phones be part of a Dropbox promotion?? IF anything serious change came from a promotion like this it would be people using more 3g/4g data because they have more files on Dropbox, maybe even have music, tv shows or a movie on there because 23 gigs could certainly hold and more, the usage of more data simply means people will spend more money on data plans, especially because Unlimited Data is becoming one of those "Back in my day...." myths.
I should add that a couple years ago someone released an edited version of the Dropbox.apk file to give whomever used that apk access to a HTC Sense promotion regardless of what phone was being used. Dropbox found out about this, fixed the exploit and revoked the bonus space of anyone who had gotten it from the hacked apk.
I've gotten free space from Dropbox before through an HTC promotion. When I did it they gave you 50GB. HOWEVER, they will remove this extra space from your account after awhile. They don't tell you this when you get the free space (unless it's hidden in the agreement somewhere), but after 2 years was back tot eh regular old 2GB. I've since moved to Box.net that sometimes does a bonus space promotion, and the explicitly state that the extra space will not expire. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
Why cant you edit build.prop to fake the device ID?

are you rooted?
NOS_multi_v3.0.2_GSM_Odex can't be moved onto my phone.
Cannot copy item
The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected
I can copy other files to and from.
I still have the 25 free gigs I got from running one of Newts Roms last year...It's nice to have that extra space...
BTW, I have always read that Dropboxes offer was for two years, so they may not make that clear when you enter into the deal, but it was pretty common knowledge...
How are you supposed to load a ROM without s-off/root ? I must be missing something.

I don't believe you are.. but there are plenty of folks here who have either taken up Sonic on his S-off offer or else beat Verizon to the HTC Dev site. To those people go the spoils.

You probably can, that's what my earlier post said.

Has anyone tried this method recently?
so can we really just edit build.prop? that would be a lot less work/worry for m than flashing a ROM not made for the phone
Why go through the hassle of getting 23GB of space for two years when you can get it for life, with 5GB per additional referral from Copy? I've been using Copy for awhile now and it beats Dropbox hands down. The UI on both the web and mobile devices are more robust (with embeddable links, per user link sharing and the like), it is just as fast if not faster, and the best thing, in my opinion is that shared folders do not fully count against your storage limit the way it does in Dropbox. For example, if there's a 750MB file shared among three people, each person's storage is reduced by only 250MB, not 750MB. The more that file is shared, the less the hit to one's storage as it is spread across the number of people sharing. Android app is awesome.
If interested, I have a referral link in my signature. I really think Copy is going to either kill Dropbox or force it to lower its absurd pricing and referral arrangement.

I just signed up for Copy using your referral. we'll see how this goes. always like free stuff
Check it out and tell me what you think. It really works well. I think Dropbox will have to up their game. Charging $99 for a 100GB a year is absolutely ludicrous. They were able to get away with it because alternatives like Skydrive, Google Drive and others simply didn't offer the same seamless functionality.

So far I think the interface kills that of dropbox. It's way smoother. I'll keep playing around but I like it a lot. Thanks
