Is there any way I can transfer a file from my desire on froyo to my netbook, without usb cable or wireless router? I was thinking maybe it could be done through hotspot somehow.
What about Dropbox?
But the file is over 100mb. So yes I could upload it to dropbox and then tether my laptop and download it. But it would be a painfully long task. What's adhoc? Is that what I need? Can that be done on the desire?
doesn't your netbook have a card reader? or you can use Bluetooth but it's drain your battery really really quickly.
Try the free app called connectify (be sure to get the latest version) . It will make your notebook as a hotspot and you can connect to it va wifi from your phone. Then you can use one of the numerous wifi file transfer programs to transfer files.
Connect with wireless tether.
Install adb over wifi on phone.
adb connect 192.168.43.1
adb pull /sdcard/file.xxx
Or
Connect with wireless tether
Use filemanager on phone to browse to windows share, then copy from phone.
Or
Create a samba share on your phone and browse to it from PC.
I've not tried filesharing over hotspot on windows but I don't see why it wont work as long as you add it as a trusted network and have sharing on.

Is it possible to browse folders on the PC which are setup as shared, using a router?
I can't find anything on the xda to browse networked pc.
i was wondering about that too. can you browse networked PCs via WiFi on the BA? can you browse the BA from another PC if it's on the network? i've tried making an ad-hoc connection between my BA and my pc using wifi. the seem to be connecting yet they can't see each other. i dunno if i've setup the wifi connection properly or not, but the BA is reporting that it is connected to the ad-hoc pc.
I tire of having to go under my table to plug a usb cable to the back and connect it to my phone. What would be the best route to have my phone connect to my computer wireless for data transfers?
ES File Explorer App can connect to LAN devices.
Make a shared folder on your computer, and put files to transfer in that folder.
Open up ES File Explorer on the phone then copy and paste over.
I use Wifi File Explorer,it's free in the Market.

I like FTP server. Simple and you can mount in windows
SwiFTP
Set up your phone as a wireless FTP server
Wireless tether + SwiFTP FTW!
I enable the tether, connect wirelessly, check ipconfig for the gateway, boom, that's the 'phones ip'. Enable FTP server, FireFTP thank you very much, boom CONNECTED. Browsing files & whatnot.
Love being rooted!
just be sure to turn off ftp when you're done cause you dont want to go around with that running all the time.
Another option is using Dropbox. It's in the market. Very cool app.
Is there a way that I can communicate with my laptop wireless as if it were plugged in with the usb? I already have estrongs file explorer and adb wireless, but those seem to go through the router. Is there a way to do the same thing without a router, like, if I'm not on my network? Is it maybe doable through bluetooth?
The INC supports BT OBEX FTP, so you should be able to at least access the MicroSD card via Bluetooth from your PC.
When I run Wireless Tether, then I connect with Adb Wireless. I use adb connect 192.168.2.254:5555, and then all of my other adb commands work fine.

Go to the marketplace and grab the app "Bluetooth File Transfer." Works quite well if your pc supports bluetooth. Also great if you want to transfer files between two android phones.
doesnt froyo have bluetooth file transfer built in? i thought i saw something somewhere.
SwiFTP
Take a look at SwiFTP. Not bt, but another wireless option.
Hello!
I have installed RCMix HD rom, with new Sense, and i have option for Internet Pass-Through. I am wondering, if it is possible, to use on phone internet connection from PC via Internet Pass-Through, and in settings turn on Portable WiFi Hotspot, that will let me to connect to internet on another laptop? I tried this, but i doesn't have internet on laptop...
And, is this possible anyway?
The way the internet sharing works with the Desire is that it acts like a modem which then shares the internet with a PC. You can't do it the other way around, sharing internet from your PC to your phone, just phone to PC.
You can use your computers internet via internet pass through, I know because I've tried it, but you can't use the computer internet for hotspot, I tried that too
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
@damo : bro can u tell me how u did it???m using windows 7 but cant seem to get it work on the phone....everything is getting connected but no show on the phone....
is there any particular setting u need to do???
as a thought - what about if you made an adhoc connection from laptop and shared internet with that connection...?
just a thought- completely untested..
just remember when I had a machine set up with a crossover and shared wifi from laptop to PC and wondered if you could do something similar with an adhoc wifi connection...
You can't share the internet connection used from a pass through connection. The reason is that it uses the same framework for both pass through connections and Portable Hotspot. Would be cool if it could be done, but with Windows XP and above you setup an AdHoc Wifi connection which will allow you to connect one device and share and internet connection.
I want to be able to switch on my WiFi hotspot, connect a laptop to it, and move data to and from the phone's storage as if the phone was acting as a server. Is this at all possible? Essentially I want to use the phone as a portable server for computers that I service in the home for clients. I want to be able to access my tools and software and files by connecting the client's laptop to my phone's wifi hotspot and then browsing to the server on that network to access the files. Anything to make this possible? Thanks in advance!
You're better off using a flash drive and just plugging into the computers...
It'd be slow and cumbersome even if you could get it to work.
I can only plug one flash drive into one computer at a time. Would really like to make this work, if anyone has any ideas. Thanks
