I updated my EVO from the Sprint update not paying attention and now I'm not rooted anymore. Trying to figure out what happened and how / if I can get rooted again. Think I updated to a 3.29.651.5 build version and it still says I'm on Droid 2.2 any help is appreciated.

Does your phone still work? If so, you should be able to just run Unrevoked 3.21. That would be the easiest option.
Yeah the phone works fine. I just kinda freaked when I realized what I did. Pissed right now cuz I can't wireless tether!

Awesome!
I was trying to figure out how to regain my tether for hours after updating to Froyo 2.2 I downloaded pre8 straight from my EVO and now it works like a charm. You guys are nothing short of AWESOME!!! Keep up the great work!
The lock button on my rooted incredible keeps getting stuck. Do you think a Verizon rep would notice that I'm rooted if I'm running sky raider 2.5.2 sense? Or do you think I should just unroot?

unroot just to be safe....but they probably wont kenw

The first thing techs are told to do is to check the water indicator. If that hasn't been tripped, then you probably will be fine, but if they do check your software version, they will see you have a non-official rom on there. If you want to be sure they will honor the warranty, you probably should return it to stock.
Thanks a lot for the advice!

If you're running Skyraider 2.5.2, you're probably S-OFF, in which case you can run a simple stock RUU and go back to complete 2.1 stock and be fine. As long as they don't check S-OFF (which they 99% probably don't know how to do), you'll be fine.
Alright my droid inc2 willbe here in a couple of hours and m coming from a fassy I am reallying confused on the rooting process for this phone and Rome and stuff of that nature if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great. Like do I ever use Odin? Hemdiell? Cwm? Bootloader? Ill be honest compared to the galaxy s it seems like a totally fifteenth scene and this was the first phone I rooted. Any suggestion is welcome

Root from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160511
simply dl, unzip to desktop, install other files on website, plug in phone "with usb debugging" and set to charge. Run Alpharevx and it will do all the work for you. It will also install Clockwork Recovery.
From there I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745
and after that simply install the ROM you want in the Dinc2 Android Dev section of this forum. I have used CM7 and MIUI 1.7.8. I was a CM fan but am really enjoying the MIUI interface and themes. You can DL Rom Manager from the market and have it DL and install the latest version of either one of these themes, or you can dl them from this site and install them manually.

It came with it preinstalled I read that much and when I saw that got a little frustrated

first thing to do when you're DInc2 arrives is check the software info. If you're still on Froyo, then you're golden, you can use a free software utility made by Alpharev X to S-OFF (bypass the digital signature that prevents unauthorized software installation). If it comes preinstalled with Gingerbread, you're boned; the only way to S-OFF is to use an XTC Clip which will cost you abit of cash. If you find yourself needing to go that route, PM me, I have an unused PAYG XTC Clip with 1 credit.
In came with gingerbread is there not a way to flash the froyo Rom like the fascinate if not I don't think ill root for a while in case I need to take my phone in

There is a rumoured new update coming out. Of you are rooted or want root please hold off as you might lose your root ability. Just a warning of friendly advice.

Edit: Dang its late. Sorry I can't spell. Glad that's not what the army paid me for. Lol
Yeah. I just got the phone today for my wife and it updated while it was charging before I could root it...which sucks since rooting it played a HUGE role in the decision to get this phone.
I'm guessing I could really break something if I just tried the unrevoked/alpharev/revolutionary approach regardless of the fact that I now have hboot 0.98 huh?

****, I was afraid of that. Now I wonder if I should try to return it and try again...damnit.
Is the update going to try and force itself or will it does it have to be a manual update?
Also, if you are running a custom rom will this still effect people, or just people running stock root?
Unless things are different from my Original Droid then custom roms don't need to worry about it since most of them have OTA updates turned off.

If it is a stock based Rom without OTA removed...then yes it prob will...and you will lose root...you can remove the update service yourself with a root explorer app

You will want to switch to a custom for sure. Was about to go to sleep for the night. I am still running my own stock debloat. I caught the ota pop up with the countdown clock. Luckily I was able to pull battery and flash bliss real fast.

I'm new to the Inc2, can I turn S-off somehow and then downgrade to the original hboot? Is that possible? Or is the Revolutionary method the only way to turn S-off?

If you take the ota to 2.3.4 kiss rooting goodbye.
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
For some reason the curious side of me wants to down load. Can't be that big oh a change. Right???
How long for the exploit on 2.3.4 since we already have 2.3.2 done.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
My crystal ball says it will take 3 months and 9 days to find the next exploit, and 4 months 15 days for the next patch that kills it.
It seems that one of the biggest benefits of custom roms are freedom of forced updates. I guess this is the answer to all the people concerned about getting s-on for the event of a return.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk
Wow, this thing pushes through without user consent? Holy crap am I glad I'm running CM7.
Just a thought - would users who have received the update against their will have the option of flashing the previously released gingerbread RUU? I'm guessing that even if they could, they'd still be stuck with the updated hboot and therefore unable to get s-off. I'm not really sure how all that works though. Anybody smarter than me have any thoughts?

The new OTA is pushed to your phone but it offers the option to accept, postpone or reject.
I am rooted (stock rom) and made the error of accepting. After the update my phone would not boot completely (erred with white triangle, yellow exclamation point, blue android). You can follow Conduitz's fix found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233267
NOOB Question
If I want the update and could wait for Root (have root now), how does one go about getting S-ON again? I used the alpharev method.
thanks in advance.
So i have an EVO 4g lte and i want to sell my evo 4g....anyway i prefer to use amazons trade in system because its quicker and simpler IMO. So anyway i was wondering if anyone has done this with a phone...im asking because i want to know if they check for root cuz i am rooted but i installed the stock RUU?
You could just unroot and bring everything back to stock. Nothing to worry about then.
