Hello Everyone. Im receiving my slide tomorrow and you already know i must root this (been a g1 user with root for 2 years now). But as i see, rooting this device isn't like a G1 and this involves ALOT of adb work which in my situation kind of sucks because my windows vista fails and wont boot and im stuck on ubuntu and my adb on ubuntu is kind of crazy (doesn't adb push anything and it doesn't seem like all the adb commands even work.. only thing that seems to work is getting an logcat) and all rooting methods involve using windows. I don't know which version my slide is going to come with i dunno if its going to have the OTA update or not already preinstalled because if it does i can't use the linux simpleroot by eugene and wesgarner because it requires you to be on the stock firmwire. Also from researching i see hardly anyone can revert back to the stock firmwire. So any suggestions? I hate being on Stock.. Alot lol

I noticed theres about 3 differrent methods to root it..
If anyone has used these methods and can tell me which was more user friendly I would eternaly greatful, of course i prefer a "1-click-root" method but i dont think that exsists does it?
thanx in advance..
i have tried two methods, exploid was the most straight forward and easiest. cm6 does not yet support bluetooth.

One click method? Never seen that for the slide. I used Eugenes method to root which is in the slide Rom bible and so far I've been able to root all 3 slides Ive ended up with very easily. You will have to use command prompt on ur computer but if u watch the video its really not hard at all. This is my.first android phone and it was simple for me so try it out an let us know.

go with exploid
I agree with whgarner, I used the exploid method and that was fast and efficient
I used this method and strongly recommend it: HTC Slide root guide from cyanogenmod
The guide assumes that you have already setup Android SDK on your computer and that you have installed the correct drivers for your phone so if you have'nt done that already you will need to, as all the methods I have seen so far for the Slide require ADB. Lemme know if you got any questions.

First off thanks for your response,
Im assuming that this guide works with the latest OTA.. btw can you contact me on gtalk? [email protected] (for quick response support) i just wanna make sure my wife gets her phone back asap. That way if i hit any walls i can get over them quickly and efficiently..
thanks again..
Since it appears that I have a rev 003 that can't (well no one has found an exploit yet) have S-ON nand lock turned off, is there anything I can do with the limited root access that I can get?
I will miss out on all the fun of custom ROMs, and would eventually like to cook up my own, but in the meantime I would settle for just being able to tether and maybe a few other things (no damn youtube restriction).
I am guessing that I can use adb to push over what is needed, but I am tired of *near* bricking my phone and having to use fastboot.exe to flash with to get a working phone again.
Not that I think it matters for the purpose of this question, but I am running: RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.2_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_154209_signed right now. Again, I have no problem getting a root prompt with rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin -- but no method I have tried has been able to disable nand lock.
Thanks,

If you're running bootloader 0.97 or earlier, then root with this method (I just rooted 2 evo's yesterday with it) and it includes nand unlock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304
If you have bootloader 2.02, you will have to root using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828437
Pretty sure all phones are rootable at this stage.
Yep, I have 2.02.0000, and I tried that method twice last night "near" bricking my phone both times (fastboot.exe flash needed to recover). After so many failed attempts, it starts to get to you
However, I see he upped the timings yet again with beta 7, so I guess I will give it a shot again.
In the meantime, my question still stands... If I get temporary root using rageagainstthecage, what can I do with the stock ROM? Is the lock on the hot spot app able to be removed?

I am fairly certain you need to be running a custom ROM with wifi tether unlocked, but I could be wrong.
Did you try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045 to root?
OK, I am far from new to this. I have unlocked many WinMo phones and now rooted many Android phones. I have an Evo that was rooted with ADB back on 2.1 and have rooted many friends phones.
I am using UnRevoked and I have installed the HBoot Drivers. Now it says connected, then Pushing Recovery, then stays there forever. I even let it stay connected overnight saying that, I woke up the next morning with the same screen, it isnt doing anything. Is there a different, better method??
UnrEVOked is the 'best' method.

It will have the answers for ya.
Have you installed the usb drivers, back in the day that gave me the biggest issue.
Sent from my Redeemed Incredible using the XDA App.
after reading literally thousands of posts about unrevoked and finding that most issues turn out to be simple fixes or retries, and having used it myself w no issues, this is probably the most supported and used way to root...the gold standard...not to say there arent weird curcumstances it might not work... But its a total work horse ...if you have the skills to hack the hack im sure you could use the exploit and manhandle it... I usually type something wrong, disconnect at the wrong time, or execute "doooh!" Moments, and with the swiftness....after making sure the drivers are right, give the autopilot of unrevoked another go...its really the way too do it....

If all else fails, if you know someone with a Mac computer that version of Unrevoked is simplified and you do not need to install drivers. Simply download unrevoked and root.
A friend of mine helped me root my Inc using the Mac version and it was a quick process. I have no idea how the driver/pc version of Unrevoked works as it has steps that Mac users do not need in order to root. I've been rooted for about a month with no issues yet.
Hey guys.
I manually flashed the new update 4.1.1. but now got the itch to root my S3 and go more stock android maybe cyanogen mod. Anyways I was trying to root using this method.
ww w.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ6cJxl5DTs
My computer is a Macbook air with the latest update of Mountain Lion if that matters any. I tried the method above a few times and it keeps failing. Fortunately no harm was done to my device. Can I still root (preferably with a one click type system) with the latest OS?
thanks for any help guys
P.S. I may need things simple lol
you can its not any harder. cant say why you cant now tho as im a windows user. guess you are full blown stock w stock recovery?

Yeah I'm fully stock with the latest update sprint just rolled out. The way in the video did not work so should I try something else or do I need to wait till people smarter than me make adjustments to the files?
shouldnt need any adjustments. cant see any reason that the current method wouldnt work. where is it failing like do u get any error messages. do u have any access to a windows pc? bootcamp? something? u could regain root again real quick if u did
Boot Camp. This it's the only way for Mac. If you want something easy. If not you most read about "adb". Heimdall was the software that works for Mac but isn't available for the GS3.
I wrote a quick tutorial for other user about how to install Windows with Boot Camp. PM me if you want it.

i miss having heimdall as an option.. wish it was cimpatible with the siii
As of right now you're out of luck. A command-line script was released specifically for rooting GSIIIs on OS X (literally the EASIEST and most painless method I've used) , but it doesn't work with devices running 4.1.1. I found that out the hard way.
You'll need Windows or Boot Camp for sure, and a likely copy of Team Epic's Root From Recovery zip to bypass the recovery overwrite on 4.1.1.

Hi, I've spent literally 5 hours today just trying to figure out what flashing is, rooting is, and how to install ADB/SDK drivers, but still no idea what flashing and rooting are (trying to unlock my phone). I've looked at so many guides, but I came across this one that seemed to work for me to install ADB/SDK tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2199526. What I'm trying to do is basically root my phone which is a samsung galaxy s2 GT-i9100 4.1.2, I have no idea what Ice cream sandwich or that jelly bean thing is, this is pretty much my first smartphone, i've never really needed a phone. Now I'm trying to root with this guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994544 since I have no SD card, but here's the thing, even when I go to recovery mode, and then apply update from ADB, I then open up the ADB cmd and type adb devices, nothing comes up, I don't understand why my phone won't show up? I still try the sideload command but it says cannot read CWM-SuperSU-v0.97.zip. So what I'm trying to say is, I am a complete noob at what everyone here is specialized in lol, so can anyone explain it to me?
Wrong forum, this is the Note2 forum not SG2.
