The easiest way is to export them from outlook (if you sync with outlook?) to a csv and then go in to gmail and import them, when your phone syncs it will update the contacts.

+1 for using Google Sync w/your GMail contacts. Works both in Android & WinMo, very nice.
I wonder if it crashed with gps+wifi... I never use wifi. Do you have the newest stuff? Do you have any problems just using wifi?

I can't even make calls from Android? Where do I do the network setup :O I am a totally new Android User, I can't even figure out whether I am connected on the network or not lol.
If I am able to make calls, only then I can configure my GPRS/EDGE network.

Well there isn't any network setup really... You just set force cdma to 1 or 0 depending on your network - if you're GSM, set it to 0.

I second the suggestion of Google Sync. Sync your WM phone contacts and emails to Google, then when you sync in Android using your Google account, they will all be there.

thanks for the help, I have connected to my network.
When I run Maps, it crashes and reboots back to Windows

Hrm. Not sure dude, do the typical crap. Make sure you're up to date. Delete (move, rename) your data.img. Format card, start fresh.
Try those things, in that order one at a time.

Live Messenger Final?

Hi there.
With Black 2.5, Live Messenger final seems to be included, according the release specs. I posted questions regarding Live Messenger Final over there, but since that thread is flooded with posts, I 'm asking here.
I know the beta version had a problem. It would connect to gprs, also when a wifi connection was available.
Besides this, I wonder if the final version of Live messenger still syncs it's contacts with the phone contacts.
Thanks
Is there someone willing to answer these questions? Thanks
new option

New live messenger got a new option wether to merge windows live contacts with outlook contacts or untick if you dont want to so as not to include your mesenger contact
I do not know if the version present in Black 2.5 is final but i can answer the other questions:
-WM Live on black 2.5 still try to use the GPRS connexion when wifi is available; just cancel the GPRS connexion and it goes automaticely through wifi.
-WM live on black 2.5 still sync MSN contact to phone.

Terrible piece of crappy software then. Disconnecting the GPRS connection doesn't work for me. It keeps trying to connect.
There's also no workaround for the msn contact sync to phone?

To get around the GPRS issue, create a new connection called 'fake' and leave that defaulted. That way it'll never connect to the GPRS. But when you are out and about and want GPRS/3G again, just go to connections and drop down to what your usual connection is. This works a treat and saves a lot when the 3G randomly decides to connect when I don't wan it!

Anyone????
Search my Name at http://www.aximsite.com & look for my threads
The thread name is something like "Did Windows Live Die WTF?"
its in there on the 1st page at the bottom... Sorry I don't have time to post the link just yet.
Though currently most of use are stuggling with its Push Email (not the files but the application in general)
If creating the "fake" GPRS connection doesn't do it for you, I use http://www.modaco.com/New-FREE-Utility-t246171.html

Phone attempting to access net several times per hour

I've just switched network providers and haven't set up the data connection yet, but I've noticed that the phone has been repeatedly trying to access GPRS all day - about 15-20 times between 10am and 4:30pm.
I use SPB Mobile Shell 3, and have the weather app set to update manually. I also have Outlook set to send/receive manually, so I can't work out which application is trying to access the net. Does anyone know how I can find out, before I clock up a huge data bill?
What about the auto web page loading thingy? Have you set that up???
No - I've never enabled it.
I've just installed SPB Wireless Monitor and the two processes that seem to be doing it are system.exe and services.exe. These both sound like naive WM processes, so don't really give me a clue what's going on.
I read in another post that Google Maps/Latitude may connect to the internet regularly, so I disabled that feature but there's still something connecting on a regular basis.
???
The only other thing I am aware it could be is the Manila Facebook updater that's built into the contacts part of TF3D2. Check that out:
People->All People->3rd Tab(person with a clock)->Menu->Data connection setting

I have TF3D2 disabled as I use SPB Mobile Shell. Hence I'm not even able to access the TF3D menu. Is there any way of checking this without removing SPB Mobile Shell?
Does anyone know of a program which will selectively allow internet access to specified applications only?
You could try this one: NO DATA app
Thanks - I already run NoData, but I'd like something which explicitly allows net access to some apps but not to others. That way I won't have to remember to switch GPRS on every time I want to browse, and off when I'm finished.
I finally worked out which app was accessing the net - it was the Funambol client. The newer version is set to "Push" updates by default, rather than sync manually. Now I can finally leave my 3G access enabled without fear of clocking up unexpected charges....

Hello, what is Funambol? I have the same problem (connecting to GPRS network frequently), but I didnt find such application. Thank you.
It's a SyncML client - allows synchronisation of my calendar, contacts etc with my Google calendar/Gmail contacts
Thanks for the quick reply. Do you or anybody else have any idea which application is still connection to the net? I'm using neither Opera nor TF.

Wifi connection problems - advice required

Hi all.
My Touch Pro 2 has suddenly stopped connecting to any wifi sources
I can still detect wifi networks, and I have recreated all of my previous wifi settings but no joy.
I can't think of anything that I've changed however I did recent "reset to default" my installation of "Advanced Configuration". Wifi worked fine before I installed "Advanced Configuration", after I used it to make changes.
Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this for the next couple of months before I move on to a new phone?
thanks in advance.
You did not tell us what rom you use. Have you tried a hard reset? Try that and see if it works again.

Apologies - it's a standard HTC WinMo 6.1 ROM no mods or updates.
I'm trying to avoid a hard reset if at all possible. It's a lot of hassle having to set the phone up again - configuring bluetooth, wifi, contacts, etc
In any event I'm planning to get a replacement on another OS in a month or so.
Problem solved!

You have to have windows on your pc, use outlook and remember to do it. Why would you when there's online solutions now that involve MUCH less restrictions / effort ?

Id follow the advice and do a back up of your contacts and what not and just do a hard reset. Its amusing that you'd rather get a new device then take the 20 minutes it would take to hard reset the phone and resync everything back on and get it back to where you want it though

I suppose it depends what you use your phone for. Like I said.. calandar sycnronization is a must for me.... I would hate to have to type everything out on my phone when I can just change stuff on my computer. Pop it in the dock and away I go!
It's easier than when I had a WinMo device....

It's easy - actually a lot easier than when I had a WinMo device. The new Android phone comes with HTC Sync which allows for syncing with my Outlook install and still allows me to choose what t do with conflicts.
In addition I sync automatically with my online calendar and contacts.
I've been very pleasantly surprised
interesting ideas

Interesting ideas.....
I did try a hard reset in the end - it made no difference. In addition I was fed up with trying to update to WinMo 6.5 for better finger tip functionality.
Btw I tried that in the past and spent many long hours "convincing" Outlook not to duplicate appoints since it couldn't recognise existing items.
I tried the myphone service and it was quite good - took a bit of time (I couldn't connect to wifi remember ) but quite good.
I agree about the calendar sync that's important for me too...but so is the wifi access when I'm at home.
In the end the choice of wasting more time trying to fix the WinMo device and get it back to where I started was outweighed by the more flexible, finger friendly and app happy Android device.
And the Android device does a automatic backup to a local sd card by default for all my apps and their settings....

I DON'T use outlook on my PC. All my stuff is on my phone. But I do use outlook to create new appointments. When I receive an email that involves a meeting, I typically paste in the details and then sync my phone, which receives the data.
It is also easier to manage contacts with outlook.
I also use Outlook as a backup to my contacts and calendars.
As to why? I prefer to have my information available regardless of network access. On-line means I have to have a data connection available. In my travels I have been to places that do not support T-Mobile or a roaming GSM connection. So my phone has it all... and of course it will sync with my laptop as well.

Well, I intend to have my TP2 for a long while, but after that I may have to decide between Android and WM7. Right now I'm not too big on WM7 because they won't allow customizations to the OS.

Thanks for your contribution - you must be a real blast at parties.
If you had nothing useful to add why bother adding anything at all...?
I tried hard reset and it made no difference - stated that above.
I tried myphone - interesting service but I found it a bit slow - also stated above.
If you're the best the WinMo crowd can offer I'm quite glad I've moved on to the Android patch.
To everyone else thanks for your suggestions.

Problem with WLM in Mango.

Hey guys, I've updated my HTC Trophy to Mango and I've noticed a problem with WLM in Messaging.
In the Messaging under online, it only shows some contacts online, but not every online contact.
and when I go to some contact in the PeopleHub, it says text+chat, but it doesn't show it for everyone I speak to on WLM.
Anyone got a fix for this?
Thanks.
I have noticed this with my FB contacts. Some friends don't show up in the list available on my phone, but it does show them as available in FB chat on my computer.
I have this issue too.
And hope this is just a beta bug, but sometimes when I'm chatting with someone and I turn the screen off and after a while I turn on and go chat with the same person, it shows me that he is offline.
I need to go back to message hub, slide to "online" and wait to load again.
Its a privacy setting they have enabled to allow apps certain permissions. Fb has these and wlm has them each friend. Has to grant access to other apps to use chat and such
Sent from my arrive using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I've found that it's just the people I have added recently, all my older contacts seem to work fine.

Sync manualy once all of your accounts in Settings/email-accounts...
I download new content every 30 minutes and I keep syncing in manually in settings>email+accounts.
I'll be able to chat to people on WLM desktop, but not in Messaging on my phone, they don't appear online.
The problem might be the server that Windows Phone using is not the same as WLM, and some functionality of WLM have not finished yet in the current build of Mango (as it is for dev to testing app). We might have to wait until they release the final build or might be another working update. Right now, even those people from FB, Y!M or Gmail can see you online and they can send you message, but you probably cannot send back to them due to the limit of current build. However, I can confirm that WLM working perfectly. So if you guy has Live id, use it for messenger for now until we have the good build as we can message other services.

Galaxy Nexus, while a Samsung device, is not compatible with Samsung Kies. Galaxy Nexus runs on native android and not Samsung enhanced version of Android, this is the possible reason why.

No but seriously Kies is terrible software and you can accomplish everything Kies claims to do pretty easily on your own. All your contacts are saved to your SIM and GMail already and music is pretty easy to transfer.
KIES is the worst software ever. I can't imagine even one reason to use it.
I agree the old one really was bad but the new one that you can connect through wifi works great !!

Thanks. I will give this a try. Problem is Google keeps messing my contacts by adding email addresses I use to my contact list even when I don't want to. Then it arbitrarily decides to merge with existing contacts, giving priority to its own formatting instead of mine.
I'm so fed up with this that I'm currently doing a major clean up of this.

When creating my xda account, I watch the introductory video, had a good laugh§ I now also have the confirmation I'm a noob. I solved my problem of Google arbitrarily creating entries in my contact list : I just had to go in the parameters to prevent it doing so.
Now I still have a problem : when I want to sync my Nexus to my Google account, it seems priority is given to the Nexus contacts (empty list) instead of my up to date list in Google. When I sync my 148 contacts, 53 get deleted from Google. Trying to figure out how to set priority.
EDIT : problem solved, but I don't know how. All 148 contacts now appear in the phone. It did an update by itself. Seems that if I force sync, I lose contacts, if I do nothing, everything's OK. Go figure ....
