Is this going to eventualy be able to be ported for the tilt2?
I have to say i am pissed on what it is looking like so far, I really liked windows mobile because it was different and had multaple devices that you could choese but I would like to try it at least.
I know it may be too early but thought I would see if someone knew
Windows 7
From what I have heard, All current wm 6 phones will not be able to upgrade to wm7. I beleive they are upgrading all phones that will have wm7 system with better, faster processors and the current phones dont have them and ultimately wm7 won't work on them. Consequently wm7 wont be coming out until well into 2011.....atleast the 3rd quarter.....as rumors have it that is....hope that helped.
also it is rumored wm7 requires capacitive touch screens, we have resistive with the tp2.
There will be NO WM7 for the TP2 .. Really I dont want it.. you wont be able to get all the COOL apps we have or do all the things we do to hack out phone as easy! all APPS will need to come through the app store like the apple iphone..

yep, you also have to use internet explorer, bing search, bing maps, zune marketplace. you get no real customization or third party apps. its horrible. htc sense looks better tbh. what youre gonna want running on your phone in a year is android.

Considering the HD2 has a capacitive screen and they were able to port that over to the touch pro 2 I'm sure it IS doable. They also had said they the Sense 2.5 interface would run to slow on our phones and now its blazing fast.
That said.... odd's are it'll get ported to the HD2 well before the touch pro 2.
I have no doubt that it'll get ported though, buy that time though I'd be ready to upgrade my phone anyway
It's extremely doubtful at best that this device will ever see Windows Mobile 7. One problem lies in with the hardware. Windows Mobile 7 will not be made or compiled for the MSM7xxx series of processor, only the newer, faster chipsets like the Tegra and Snapdragon. I don't see any way around that unless we can get the source and compile it ourselves. Next is the kernel. Windows Mobile is designed in such a way that the kernel must fully support the device's hardware. Windows Mobile isn't designed like Windows for PC, where you can simply put it on and it does all the driver work. We need full drivers to run Windows Mobile 7, drivers I might add do not and will never exist unless we write them.
In addition, what about the bootloader? The bootloader will very likley need to be updated so it will boot Windows Mobile 7, but how to go about doing that? Porting a new version of Windows Mobile is a hell of a lot harder than porting Sense 2.5 or any other software. It's also going to be completely different (and more difficult) than porting Windows Mobile 6.5 to Windows Mobile 5 or 6 devices, since the kernel is totally different.
I think that the only way this device will ever get Windows Mobile 7 is if someone has a Windows Mobile 7 Rhodium test ROM for internal use by Microsoft, and it gets leaked here. Otherwise, we're probably out of luck.
It's not that I don't want Windows Mobile 7 on the Rhodium, since I really do, I'm just thinking realistically.
Just Got My HTC Desire (UNLOCKED)
and BTW loving every bit of it
was wondering that if in the future it would be possible to run Windows Phone 7 on HTC Desire??
or
[Poll] Whether anyone is interested to run windows phone 7 on Desire?
P.S. Just Learnt someone is working a port of andoid on the iphone (not )
Lol! That will take some effort to make.
It will be really good though, just depends on what future android releases are like.
Windows Phone can not be ported, cause it is closed source.
And why would you want that crap anyway?
I went with Desire cuz I didnt want to have a windows phone nor Symbian but had no money for an Iphone. lol. So thanks but no thanks.
lol the Desire is much better than the iPhone
You should be happy that you didn't have the money
That's like saying can iPhone OS be ported to the Desire.
Never gonna happen with a closed source OS.

looks just like htc desire but windows phone 7 .
maybe hardware specs r same as well
Android is open source, it can be configured to diffrent device configurations, windows phone isnt, as the most of the driver, sensors and hardware for the desire was written using the android open source project, they arnt compatible with windows phone full stop lol
If WP7 would ever be ported on Desire, I would probably just test it, to see what its all about. and then delete it...
It would be interesting to play with, but I doubt it would be possible
There's a project porting android to the iPhone, and it's proving very difficult even with Android being open source. So closed source, I don't think it would work..

If htc releases a phone with win phone 7 which hardware is equal to desire - might be a possibility.
But I can not imagine one dev wanting to do that

i dont even think that would be possible, the sdk htc used to write the sensor and harware code isnt compatible with windows, on the other hand, android can be configured to run on hardware written to run on windows phone thats the problem lol

So umnmm.....did anyone actually READ the link?
Today's internet leak is brought to you by our friends at Adobe Photoshop and is apparently known as the HTC Mozart.
A leaked internal Telstra document is offering the first indication of when we might actually see a Windows Phone 7 device in stores and all but confirms that HTC will be one of the first manufacturers to launch a phone running Microsoft's overhauled OS.
We suggest you forget about the image, which is clearly just an HTC Desire with a WP7 home screen photoshopped onto the front of it. However, what is really interesting is the AU$49 per month price cap, Telstra's newest and lowest available Next G cap. Everyone who assumed that the first swell of WP7 phones would run at a premium cost (us included) were obviously mistaken.

I would use it. The more I play with Windows Phone 7 the more I am sure it is going to be a serious player in the mobile world. I love the openess of Android, but I've been playing with several WP7 ui apps and I want more!
I would buy a WP7 phone as a secondary, but as of yet, I don't really like any of the hardware currently available with AT&T bands...
Wrong Thread
WP7 has been ported to HTC HD2; maybe it was easier because WP7 is based on Windows CE 6, as winmo was.
Is it posible to install windows mobile 6.5 on an windows phone 7 or android phone ?
I ask this because we are dropping support for windows phone but it is going to take a while for us to do the port to android and our clients are having trouble geting devices that can run our current software.
Regards Christian
Nope. Not possible.
Why would you expect your customers to hack their devices to install WM 6.5 just to run your company's software (which would kill their warranty for the device) even if it was possible?
Huh! Why would someone buy a windows phone only then to install wm 6.5 or whatever? If they wanted 6.5 they would not have bought a windows phone 7 in the first place and bought the older phones.
People seem to think phones are like PCs... They aren't.
Downgrading is easy. Bring the WP7 devices back and get HD2s or Tilts/TouchPro's, etc. Samsung Jacks or Epix if you're into that formfactor.
I would never expect anyone to do this on my request
it was actulaly the client that asked me My only reply was that I would look into it
regards Christian Andersen
Its not possible but on the bright side, there will be a big update in Jan

why are you dropping support for 6.5? and why not make a wp7 port, from what I've heard, it's not that hard.
There are a few reasons that we cant port to Windows Phone 7.
The main reason is the same reason why.
Firefox and Skype will not be avalible on Phone 7.
Our code base is cross platform and is written in C++.
and even if we wanted to develop in something like silverlight or XNA the lack of database and sockets would stop our application dead.
So we are dropping all windows development and are moving our mobile platform to Android and IPhone

I second that...
The biggest point of my phone is for fpsece (psx emulator).
I want snapdragon, no slideout keyboard, and cdma (verizon customer).
I've considered the lg fathom, but I'm not sold on it.
Optimally, I'd want a proper d-pad on the front, but I think those are a thing of the past.

Touch control are koo but arent a good replacement for d-pads imo...mainly for games. Maybe one day some finds a way to have a slider cell that has dedicated game keys like a psp & physical kb like the tp2.

Essentially because there's little call for it. The upgrade from Winmo to Android/WP7 was drastic and you could have a high end device on any of the 3 OSes by porting it. If you ported android to the HD7 you would have paid as much for a low-end android device as you would for a mid-high end WP7, it's illogical and stupid and thus there's no call for it.

The main reason is because there is no interest in doing this. And the reason for that is because there isn't anything wrong with WP7 as compared to WinMo. The reason the HD2 got all that dev love was to get away from WinMo on a superphone. WP7, though, happens to be the best mobile OS ever invented. So there just won't be as much or any interest in hacking the HD7 just to put an inferior OS on it.
see all
first must say ThanX 4 all
i want know only why the HD2 have all OS Rom
Y there is android rom for HD7
WP7 VERy Good
i can't say any thing
but only want tho know
I can never understand this response. I had a sdand/wp7 hd2 until it broke, and it was replaced with an hd7. I like wp7 better but android offers more functionality and has a lot of apps/games which are unavailable on wp7.
I loved the option of switching OS' at a click and I can't imagine there aren't many others just like me. The truth is that I spent much more time using android than wp7 when I had the choice of either.
I just bought a galaxy note so ill be saying adieu to wp7 for now but I seriously hope I can dual not wp7 on it.

Hey guys! I was reading an article that shows a M8 running windows mobile 8. I saw it pop up on multiple sites so it must be really comming. I was just wondering what if the device had the same specs as ours. Doesn't that nean that in the future we may be able to run it on ours. Not that I would ditch android but just the thought of having the best of both worlds gets me excited. How about you? Any thoughts?

Sorry lol I don't keep up that much with windows but hey it would be cool to dual boot just because why not. Using another os without having to commit to it sounds great.
I'd love a dual boot, but if I recall it's sort of a legal grey area. Windows phone isn't free like android, so it's possible that the m8's that ship with windows phone will get unofficial android support, those of us that have them that shipped with android haven't "paid" for a windows license for the phones, so we may not get unofficial WP support.
It's going to be a re-release of the m8 as the w8 running wp8.1. It's not a dual boot phone just a "new" device apparently.
But if there were certain developers that got curious and dedicated to porting wp to the Android m8 it would just be a matter time. Identical hardware only rebranded as a Windows phone with working drivers. Techically a working hboot/boot loader similar to magldr for HD2 would do it.
But that's all what ifs on a device that's not the m8.

But see, the HD2 came with windows phone first, so it technically had the license for it. The M8 android edition doesn't have the windows licensing so I'm not sure if a developer would want to undertake that task and risk the wrath of microsoft.
I think if this wp8 phone had identical hardware and a stock RUU were to appear one could flash this ROM with S-OFF.
Technically speaking sense is not open source and that doesn't stop people from attempting to port it other devices. Almost always OEM ports are proof of concept.
Unless Windows/HTC were to issue a cease and desist letter to the dev community (which I don't see happening considering at this point they would be thrilled people would have an interest period) I don't see this being an issue if hardware specifications are the same or equal enough

Partition layout are different between the two different OS. An RUU would not flash and if it did you would screw up your phone emmc so brick.
I am by no means an expert but I know the partition are different from GPE and Sense and with soff you can still flash. In theory wouldn't that be the same? I maybe way off.
If this had the support of Nexus community I bet you a working wp8 could work. For instance if their was a nexus 5 that happened to run WP8.
In any case I would love to at least try a try WP8. I am sure I will be running back to android a weeks tops though

Looks like you are spot on! Which answers the question and makes it more plausible.
Free Windows phone for devices < 9" Save your jokes!
This almost makes me feel like Microsoft should make it easier to convert an Android version for people that are curious to use their OS. Furthermore, it would be brilliant to help adoption rate if they give free licenses and encourage existing devices to convert to Windows in a simple easy way. Starting to see some light here.
