I am attempting to install an app that i downloaded, and I keep getting an error saying there is a problem parsing the package. I am running cm6. I have used different app installers and have gotten the app from more than one reliable source and it makes no difference. Any ideas?

Did you get it from the market or from another source? That means the file is corrupted and uninstallable.
From another source but I know people who have it and works for them

I am having same issue when downloading apk from browser. Always get same error message when I try to install apk . If I download from pc and email to phone it installs fine. For some reason the download is not completing from phone. I tried with WiFi on and off and with different browsers. Trouble follows.

I recently began to encounter an error when attempting to install apps from my SD card while using programs such as root exporer or android home. I get this error when attempting to install any non market .apk using any file management program. I have no problem installing apps from the market. The error reads-
"Parse error
There is a problem parsing the package"
I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge as to how to solve this so I can install non market apps? So far everything I have tried has failed (wiping and reinstalling ROM and also trying different file management programs.
Yeah, I have this error too, and it's really starting to get annoying. Anyone have any ideas?
I'm running CM6 Final with it's stock kernel.
I have also been experiencing this error. i have an HD2 runnning a chuckydroid rom with FroyoStone with HTC Sense V2
I'm getting this error too on my HD2 with Hyperdroid & Enegy Leo rom
From my experience, the parse error only occurs with bad/incomplete downloads.

Have you tried running the fix_permissions script yet? Its included in most ROMs. I would try that along with clearing your cache & dalvik

has anyone tried making an update.zip to see if it will instal that way?
I had that error when it is an unlocker apk or an upgrade version of an app.

Is the script included in cm7? If so where, thanks

A lot of the time when I'm downloading an app from the market it downloads fine. The problem is that it fails in the installation process. It says package file is invalid. What is up with that?
Edit: Is there anything that can be done to fix this problem? I don't know why it is happening.

Hello,
I've flashed to a new rom and installed adfree(like i previously had) and updated list and it no longer works. it used to work on my stock root. so i figured i would try adaway and same issues...
i tried rebooting phone, clearing dalvik cache etc just to see if it would help. same problem.
could there be a conflict somewhere? am i doing something wrong?
i tried installing busybox but i already had it.
any help would be fantastic!

What'd u mean by it does not work? ? Does it say new host names found download and install but your still getting ads or is it force closing or is it saying your not roo
ted or what
It updates and says should be ad free. But it does nothing

I find on adfree I need to have "Use /data/data/hosts symlink" and "create symlink if needed" checked to get it to work.
Tried it. No change. Don't understand this.

Click to collapse
Select "Use /data/data/hosts symlink" and "create symlink if needed" , force update the hosts file, reboot.
That's all I needed to do to make it work on stock rooted EI22. It's possible the rom you are on has the hosts file somewhere odd?
It's possible that the image of the ad was cached somewhere on your SD card. Try the same app in airplane mode to see if it's pulling it from the net (in which case Adaway should block it) or if it's loading it locally.
Scour your card for ad images.
Try another app w/ ads.
Tried everything. I'm using acs ics 5. But I've tried other roms.
Just doesn't make sense. Could my jailbreak be bad?

I get this error im on acornium 5.6 doomkernel 16
There is a issue praising this package? I did uninstall a file manager that acornium seemed to have any fix? If it is that can I have someone send Me the apk

Anyone?

A parsing error can occur if you try to install an apk for the wrong os version e.g. If you try to install the trebuchet ics launcher to a 2.x phone you'll get that error. But if it's only the file manager you've removed that shouldn't cause that. If you used titanium check all your system apps are there, or uninstall/re-install the apk.

a log will give us more info... then maybe we can help either that
or tell us what you tried to install so we can try it.

That happens sometimes .. If your using inverted gapps it won't update. Do like above and flash a different gapps package.

If u have Titanium Backup just uninstall Google search n download from market

I'm pretty sure it is because your GNow.apk is signed. When this happens to me on my devices, I usually go to Settings>Apps>All>GoogleSearch>Uninstall Updates. Then go into the market and it should be there for you and ready to update correctly. If you have inverted like someone suggested above, it won't update unless you do what I said above. Also once it updates, it will no longer be inverted.
