[Q] Get windows 6.5 rom on incredible? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I own an HD2 and loved the windows 6.5 format, now im looking at the incredible due to a change in service provider and wonder if I could put a windows rom on the incredible even though its running android. I know on the HD2 which ran windows, you could put an android rom so im wondering if it works the other way around. I have tried searching the forums and have yet to find anything that can give me a definite answer if i can or cant.
thanks in advance guys

As far as I know it has not been done on any android phone to date...
Correct me if I'm wrong...

Why? Have you ever used android? There is a very good reason it hasn't been done...once you switch you'll never want to go back.

wtf? Them are fightin words!

This will probably never happen.
Android is open source. So a conversion is more likely to move towards open source than a proprietary OS.
What you want may not be impossible, I think the community to drive towards proprietary OSes will be too small for success.

It'd probably never work right anyway... Even if you could find an image of WinMo compiled for the processor, driver issues would be everywhere. It's very unlikely that these would be something which could be corrected.

I agree that it hasn't been done because Android is so much better, but there are things I miss from Windows that just worked better. Mainly connecting to my VPN and using remote desktop. It just worked so flawlessly on Windows (and why shouldn't it, its the same company I know) and Android is being difficult with it. Plus there aren't any remote desktop programs that are free that is as good as the one that came stock on the windows phone.

which WinMo build is best for running Xandroid?

Does it make any difference? I'm using TAEL on my ATT Fuze right now, but it's giving me real problems (actually, it's unusable at the moment. I'm 100% on android- until my battery runs out...) Should I go back to a WinMo 6.1 build? Which one do you use?

Several people have done fairly extensive testing... and all we've found that WinMo does is initialize some hardware for Android - so any build of WinMo is fine. It really does not have any relation to Android at all.
With that said, if you want an easy way to go straight to Android, search for Gen.Y. That method is a sort of dual-boot of Android and WinMo (not a true Android ROM keep in mind.)
Thank you!
That's great- I'll just flash something simple and keep android up (love it BTW!). Does this mean that once android is running, WinMo is completely shut off? Does it make any difference if I have WinMo applications running before I start android?
BTW- Thanks!

Basically, yes. Like I said, the only thing WinMo does is initialize hardware - for example, early on we had to make a phone call in WinMo before booting Android to get the mic to work. Devs fixed that issue. Same with hw3d, but they sorted that out as well. I think the only thing left is the display itself (I could be wrong) but there isn't any special app you need to run to initialize that.
I use that lightNHB winmo that is posted on the first page of the android release post. Seems to work good... and gets into Android boot pretty quickly
i'm using TAEL too, but it's quite stable, oh i'v instaled [prj][XDANDROID][2.2][AOSP][29.7.10] but i don't use lightNHB, i simply execute haret.exe on explorer
LightNBH2
No guys, you are all wrong. There's one ROM I'm on now, which automatically boots Linux and as well is very quick to boot (for those people who don't want to use WinMo at all)
It also lets you to use your device as the internal storage to (update/edit Android builds) I find this ROM the best to use with Android. It loads as quickly as possible and auto runs Linux which is surely the best decision so far. Here's the link.

Haha, that and I said I use LightNHB and works good, and that was also wrong
Come on now people, is this needed really??
I think to paraphrase the thread, try out some ROMs and see how you get on.
Really thats it.
Agreed; thread closed.

[Q] tmobile touch pro 2

My friend has tmobile touch pro 2 and wants to know if all the things in forums that apply to at&t TP2 also apply to the tmobile version...
Some things are carrier specific, some aren't. Without you telling us specifically what you are referring to, its hard to say whether there is a difference or not.
oh ok, im not well versed in WinMo. Im an android person myself. But im helping my friend this stuff. So far I upgraded his phone to 6.5.
Theres actually alot that im trying to do. 1st want to be able to run android & possibly dual boot on the tmobile TP2.
I also want to use different skins and plugings like the stuff seen in the forums here & here
Any help would be very much appreciated

well. for android...
download the .cab from here.
install the .cab onto your storage card.
run android. will shut down winmo and boot up android.
and dont forget to thank the android devs, here.
for winmo...
assuming you updated the tilt2 with at&t's official winmo 6.5 rom...
Settings --> Today --> Items tab --> uncheck Sense --> check Windows Default ---> OK --> Soft Reset
that disables Sense 2.5 and enables Titanium.
now.
just install your preferred Titanium theme.
and enjoy.

You'll need the Wifi Router App and a tethering plan. If a carrier determines you to be tethering without it being on your contract, they have the right to surcharge you for it. Most custom ROMs have this app built in.
Ok thanks, Does anyone have any suggestions on some of the best or most stable roms out there?

Do a search. There are hundreds of threads of new users asking which ROM they should use. That's like asking which pants you should wear. It's all about personal preference. Just keep flashing until one of them sticks. I've been doing this for a very long time now, and I still can't stick to just one chef.

[Q] MeeGo

Is there a potential to port MeeGo for the Desire HD?
I'm also extremely interested in a meego port for the DHD. I've used it briefly on my n900 and I believe the DHD's increased spec would run it a lot faster.
Anyone else interested in this?

Yeah, i'd also love to see Meego running on my DHD.
Maybe a similar procedure to the normal Desire would work: wiki.meego.com/ARM/MSMQSD#HTC_Desire_Meego_1.1_WIP
The HTC kernel for the DHD is also located at developer.htc.com, so maybe we could just give it a try?
The demo of the N9 looked great so I thought I should really give it a try (yes, I know the stock user interface is much more boring), but I'm stuck.
I compiled the kernel boot image from the official ace kernel sources (ace-2.6.32-g5ed1769) and the the meego root image (kickstart script is attached):
Code:
LANG=en_EN mic-image-creator --run-mode=1 --cache=mycachedir --format=loop --arch=armv7hl --save-kernel --config=handset-armv7hl-dhd.ks
Then I made an extra partition on the sdcard and copied the image to it:
Code:
dd if=meego-handset-armv7hl-dhd-1.1.99.20110621.0425.img of=/dev/sdf2
Now I wanted to boot this kernel using fastboot
Code:
fastboot -c 'root=/dev/block/mmcblk1p2 rw rootfs=ext3 init=/sbin/init rootwait noinitrd' boot zImage
But this doesn't work, it just falls back to the recovery mode..
So I really don't know what I should do now, could anybody help debugging this?
Thanks,
Lukas

Yes exactly, but without the user interface from Nokia.
I really like it because it's practically only a Linux distribution with a special user interface - and not so "trimmed down" like Android. It is also much easier to develop for this OS (it is based on the Qt Framework not a Java VM).
I would LOVE for a meego build on our desire hd..if someone can make it happen, that would be crazy awesome
My previous mobile is N900 and I still keep it. Maemo/MeeGo is very good OS and it is a shame that is not already mature system. There are some very good ideas and implementations in it.
So it will be very useful for everyone to have a possibility to have a port of MeeGo on his mobile.
Cheers.

I've made a huge step forward when I used the kernel from the Ubuntu build for the Desire HD ( [DEV] Booting Ubuntu nativ!!! )
But the UI doesn't work yet - there is a crash because no sound hardware is present/working ( https://bugs.meego.com/show_bug.cgi?id=11367 )
We can also use android apps look here http://www.gsmarena.com/alien_dalvik_will_let_you_run_android_apps_on_the_nokia_n9-news-2813.php
Will be awesome if we have meego on our dhd

Don't forget, xda is a developers forum so there are plenty of awesome people around the Dev section that could help you if you need. I suggest you maybe open a thread in the General section or Dev section and get things moving because this would be awesome.

I've a working rootfs, but the default UI rather ugly and there is absolutely nothing that is usable in the current state (touchscreen is working so the only thing you can do right now is to open the application menu - which is really slow, because there is no hardware acceleration - and run the qt demo application; wifi is not tested; there is no possibility for text messages or phone calls)
I might upload the rootfs after my "school diploma" (and the following party), but I doubt you want to use it.
The next step is to get the hardware rendering to work, but this seems to be almost impossible.
This would be really nice. It's such a shame that Elop won't be continuing the development of MeeGo at Nokia.
It is possible.
I had seen videos on Youtube Meego installation.
So I have to Meego Desire HD can be installed on it was discovered.
But I do not know how to do that.

Are you talking about this video?
I uploaded it a few months ago, but the port hasn't improved since then.
The major issue is that there is no open-source driver for the GPU.
But it is really easy to get the software rendering: Just follow the steps on the first page
android is better than MeeGo~

You went to a dealer and they put Android on your TP2?!?! Wow, that must be a first!! Personally, I would recommend that you install a custom WinMo ROM, like the Energy ROM. When you'll have a functional TP2, you might want to try to use Froyo or Gingerbread with XDAndroid to see if it works great for you.
it is not the main os need to boot in windows mobile first then i need to start in something called haret. it wil boot a linux like os called android

As far as I know, and I may be wrong so others will correct if so, A TP2 is not supposed to work out of the box with Android. The whole XDAndroid project is running to that Android can be tweaked to run efficiently on other "non-Android" cellphones. As for haret, it's the program that start the Linux booting sequence so that XDAndroid can boot on the phone.
As I told you, if you want a working TP2 as fast as possible, you should think about installing a custom WinMo ROM. Then, you could look to find what you're looking for, a way to install Android natively on your TP2.
EDIT: I misread you last post, so I'm not sure you want to run Android as your main OS, but still, you should look to install a custom WinMo ROM of your TP2. I personally use Energy Rom with MaxSense and I really like it. I even overclocked my phone to 748 mhz with WiMoSpeed and it works great.

Wow. Never go to that phone dealer again. Android on the TP2 is NOT stable yet. He stuck you with something that was destined to break.
That said, Android is MUCH more stable lately, so if you want to reinstall Android yourself visit the Rhodium Android Development forum, or visit http://xdandroid.com.
And MMS finally works.
I have been running Froyo FRX06 on my TP2 (RHOD500) for almost two weeks now (Verizon global phone, using CDMA only with SIM card removed). The build itself has actually been very good I think. Only one SoD so far. It has rebooted on me a few times (notably when I was in an area with no service and a couple times when using navigation), but other wise has been great! With moderate usage I can easily go 17 hours between charges (includes using navigation, FB, etc). The only things that don't work are BT, the 3.5 jack (wouldn't use anyways), and MMS (but I believe there is a fix for this now as noted above). I am also overclocking (710400 khz) and so far so good (will probably bump it up some more shortly). I have not even had to switch back to WinMo once since I made the switch.
Basically, I recommend at least trying it out
A phone dealer charging for something obtainable from this site for free? LOL.
I would only recommended android on SD at the moment so you can at least use the phone
Check the link in my sig. (android on SD) to get setup.
Get that all set up with a new winmo rom and youd be all good to go, im using android as my primary. and windows only to start android.
only thing not working for my on android is Bluetooth, same for all users with our phone. There should be an update coming soon to fix this though...
btw, post all android related threads in the android section so you can get better help faster.

[Q] Windows Phone 7 ROM???

Hey, man i am on a posting ROLL this week , but hey im in the rom creator mood, i was wondering if the community would be interested in a windows phone 7 rom? I am also making other ROMs (Spark Sensation and Touch Sensation, both BETA) and figured what the heck why not try! So, all comments and questions are welcome! Thanks in advance!
(Edit: June 11, 2011)
Major issue on developement! My PC has a horrible virus and ate through my system, therefore, developement is haulted, I apologize for the inconvienience!
like a real windows phone 7 rom or just themed? a real one would be great haha
Standalone
Standalone ROM dude, with the zune like player, contacts, UI, etc. I am going to try an make it as Windows-Phone-7-ish as possible!!! Im going to call it Android's Window 7.1 ! and as i make major updates it will go up to 7.2 , 7.3, etc.! but thanks for your input! really needed it!
that, good sir, would be EPIC!
Even if people didn't want it... I'd say why not!
Do it for science!
...
But people do want it.
...So do it anyways!
Would be cool to have it launched from an sdcard, the way windows mobile devices could lauch Android. Although dual boot with flashed to /system WP7 would be also great.
I know there's a way to install Ubuntu or other Arm Linux on Android phone, but unfortunately it didn't work on mine
Would really help my wife out after she came to Android from using Windows Mobile for a loooong time.
Great, workin on it now and open to all who want to try! Also I am putting up a website soon (its already up but there is pretty much nothin on it - bfgdevelopers.webs.com) the only thing I have to do is find a way to sign it (tried zipsigner 2 and signapktic from the market but the rom won't flash after signing (shakin my head) ) so be looking for it on here and on the site! Thx for the support guys

I would use it... that would be sick, props to u if u make it work
I'd try it out if you got it to work. Now, are you talking about a version of Windows Phone 7 ported to the Slide? Or just android with a windows phone 7 skin?
i would def be down to try it. sounds really neat. i use launcher7 occasionally but it tends to get laggy. also, one thing i dont like about wp7 launchers in general is they tend to use list view for the app drawer which is super annoying when you have 30 or more apps.
