Media player that can show sub-titles - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

Is there a media player for our SGS that can show the sub-title from anime (.mkv) formats?

Third that, mVideoPlayer has all features you need. Lot of peoples are using Rock Player because mVideoPlayer doesn't have codecs, but SGS can play natively all video formats you want.

That false to facts, it doesn't play much, Rockplayer is almost managing playing 1080p but it's not free (and probably violating some GPL...) Btw, asking for money for a media player used to play unpaid content is quite hypocrite...
I want vlc instead

which version of Rockplayer are you using to "almost" play 1080p ?

1080p.... such a waste of space..

Thanks for the help.. really..

I used the latest version of Rockplayer to play the 1080p nVidia ION video that came with my computer, quite slow and a bit fuzzy sometimes, Rockplayer also almost player flawlessly the 720p wmv also from my computer.
Btw all the "native" players can't even play a plain old mpg, so much for the "SGS can play natively all video formats you want."

True, also can't play VHS from a floppy.

It's dumb to expect any player to play all the codecs/variants out there by default.

Hmmm Rock player failed on playback. Hmm will play with it some more
Rockplayer tries to play the WMV but the picture is all garbled and no sound. Rockplayer sees the .m4v file but says it is not activated.
MixZing works fine with WMV, IIRC.

Wow never had an issue with rock player... Used it to play mostly .avi though. Played a few .wmv files but most of my movies and video files are .avi or .mkv. Try using yxplayer, I personal prefer rock player but if it's not working then give yxplayer a shot.

Same here - doesn't play digital copy
I also tried to play my digital copy of IM2 on my HTC desire using rockplayer and get garbled picture with no sound.
Looked and yxplayer's feedback on the market and looks to be the same (or worse). Some comment that it may be a drm issue...
If anyone knows a workaround for this, that would be great!
Use handbrake and convert your videos to a format people actually use.

I use tunebite. Converts to.mp4. Just make sure the file size is less than 2 gb because it wont play.

The ugly truth is any digital copy has drm and won't play natively on android no matter what those market players claim.
Handbrake can't do **** to convert drm dc's.
The only way to get your dc's onto android is to use tunebite and do a real time screen capture. I have done this 4 times now and all have been successful. If you capture it right, the final size will be smaller than the dc (mine usually trim around .8 gb's on average from the dc) and still have the same quality (tunebite finals my files at 95 - 97% quality).
A word of caution though, do not screen capture the itunes dc as it makes it harder for you to capture in 720p (if the dc is natively 720).
Good luck.

[Q] Play high resolution movies

Hey,
has anyone tried to play 720p movies/clips on the DHD? It would make sence to be possible but so far, i've tried a lot of players and no luck there. Vplayer get pretty close but the playback is still jerky.
Ideas?
I use vplayer aswell but you have to change the vidoe quality setting from speed to quality. It smooths out the movie and runs pretty good

Best Video player?

I have VPlayer Advanced and when I play an .avi video that is 624x352 it lags pretty bad...
I can't imagine watching a 720p or a 1080p video on this thing...
Anyone know a video player that is worth having? ???
(It must be able to play all formats like .mkv .mp4 and so on...)

modo player can play a 720p .mkv on my DHD mostly good. Not perfect but close!
The phone by default doesn't support .mkv if this video player doesn't support more formats than the phones default player then I'm not interested.
Greetings, I use and recommend "Best Video Player PRO (Summer Player)" is very good and lso read almost all video formats, only the interface is not very appealing but the rest works perfect.
Mobo player plays 480p mkvs perfectly without lag at all. Haven't tried 720p though
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I Use RockPlayer. Plays everything pretty well, assuming you select the correct option for the file (hardware or software decoding).
I think you have to pay for it, but honestly I've had it that long I cant remember doing it.
Hardware wise, the DHD doesnt support much in the way of videos (or its awkward). Obviously, 720p 3gp, MP4, and mine is picky about WMV (it will play and then decide it can't play this file about halfway lol). it apparently supports AVI and XVID but I never come across any AVI encoded with MP4 ASP and MP3, hence RockPlayer.
MoboPlayer seems to struggle a little with MKV files I've noticed ... kind of lags. If the video has subtitles there's epic desyncing as well.
There's DicePlayer I guess, which could very well be the best video player on the market right now, but it doesn't support embedded MKV subtitles as far as I know so I haven't gone about buying it yet. Then again, I'm also a bit hesitant to buy it even with the subtitles working because I expect VLC to release their player in the coming month ...

Not big on HD on the DHD so i dont really know about that.
Rockplayer for your videos and Poweramp for the music and your set.
Wish VLC would make a player for android. Worked great on my iPhone, but the iphone sucks.

if the videos is supported format by system. mono plays well. but the videos have flac or some unsupported format. mono can not play well.

Galaxy Nexus horrible media type support!

I am in disbelief that this super google phone can't play half the stuff my galaxy tab can play ...
-.mp3 yes
-.wma no
-.rmvb no
-.mkv no
-.avi (xvid) yes but choppy
-.avi (mp4) yes ok
I wish people reviewing the phone would have mentions this. Anyway, Feel free to add to the list like ogg, etc.
Its only software
I don't think it is worth mentioning it is only software. Maybe try using Rock Player or Doubletwist to play your files.
And anyway, who would want to use WMA anyway? Use Handbrake to convert to a mobile friendly format (h264) which takes less space and has higher quality.
Have u tried media players from the market? Heard those work great.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I tried MX video player for the video, and it could play all videos--though xvid on HW is jerky (~20fps) and I had to switch it to SW mode. And it still choke at 1080p mkv (~10fps).
I tried winamp for audio but neither seems to want to play wma...I could convert them but that's an extra step...
Besides, I know the galaxy series could play them fine, that's why I feel this is a step backward.
I can watch 1080p mkv's super smooth with Dice Player, and it has played everything i threw at it without any problemas whatsoever. Overreact much?
Diceplayer fixed choppy avi playback in the latest update, unfortunately you can't buy the full version at the moment.
V player works fine, I covert videos to mp4. They play great natively

You obviously don't understand what a "Nexus" phone is. Plenty of choice out there that support these kind of files OOTB. Otherwise as others have stated go grab some goodies from the Market.

MoboPlayer is free in Android Market, one of the best open source players for every format
many of which there's build in hardware support

MKV files

I notice that my new HTC One won't play my mkv files properly with the stock video player (plays the video but not the audio). Surprisingly, DicePlayer won't play them properly either.
However, MX Player works absolutely fine (I have it set to use S/W for the audio in Settings).
Just a heads up.

I have used and extensively tested both. BS Player is the better one.
Few things that make BS Player stand out over the rest are:
Easily stream files from other device from your network.
Auto subtitle downloader. This particular one is amazing.
For instance you download a movie or tv show on your pc/laptop, you use BS Player to stream it and it will find the correct subtitle for that video and apply it.
Use BS Player, it is the best video player on Google Play Store.
I use BS player for me the best player..
I use Mobo Player ALOT, it's great, it plays almost everything, has some great settings, plus you can go back to your homescreens and it'll window the video for you so you can still watch whatever it is that you're viewing.
I've also been using VLC Player too, it's still in 'beta' but it's stable as hell and plays everything!
I had to use it as Mobo Player was messing up some of my anime subs.
<3 them both!

Easy to maintain settings as well according to their website. It saves it in user data so updates don't wipe them out.
