I've been having a lot of trouble trying to fix a bricked usb port. The phone doesn't charge when it's on, off, plugged into an outlet or USB port. The computer won't recognize it or even that it's plugged in. Also, I tried a fix where I downloaded two files "flash_image" and "mtd-eng.img" and did something with them in terminal. I was told to plug it into USB and do something in fastboot, I tried but obviously if the USB port is bricked that didn't work (just says waiting for device). I'm really at the end of my rope here. Any suggestions?
(I've been keeping it charged with a hacked up USB cable on the battery leads).
Sounds like a hardware issue at this point, one of the leads on the USB might be loose. Only thing I can think off is taking it in for repair.

i searched around and i cant find the thread on this.
i was charging my phone through the USB port and it just randomly disconnected. i reconnected at it is recognized for a second then disconnects. the menu comes up on the screen and i see the notification at the top, but after about 2 seconds it just acts like i unplugged it
i have tried multiple USB ports, cables and different PC's and they all do the same thing now.
i installed HTC sync and rebooted the machine. i changed the power settings on the machine and made sure that the USB power management is disabled.
does any one have any idea whats going on?
Do you have a auto kill app such as taskiller ?

no... the phone was just hard reset. the issue was there prior to the hard reset
it does the same thing on my laptop and desktop
both are windows 7 x46 with HTC sync installed
could be your usb port on your handset OR/AND the usb cable's tip that you insert into the port could be loose/failing. wiggle the usb cord at the end where it connects to the phone GENTLY and see if its loose. should be s snug fit...
I have the same problem n started a few threads about it n havent gotten anywhere. My work computer has no problem seeing my phone but my personal computer will not, very very strange. Ill watch this thread n see if a solutions comes about.
seems like a very snug fit too me...
i should also mention that plugged in to the wall charger it has no problems
i have tried 3 different cables and 3 different computer and all USB ports on those computers, all the same issue
I didn't have this issue till now but suddenly same thing started happening to my phone..
I have plugged in my phone using USB with laptop and it shows me charging but after two minute it just discount it...
me and my buddy have the exact same issue here. what i do is, i unplug it a few times and on the 4th i keep it it. seems to be a bit more stable that way.
i don't think this is an issue with faulty usb ports on everyone's separate computers. (could be but i frelling doubt it) ive tried this in multiple windows machines (win7x64 and xp), and it happened on all of them. Only once did it happen on my work mac. i have not, however, tried a different micro usb > usb cable. i only used the htc one. we could have faulty cables. or it could be a phone issue itself, hardware wise whereas these are the only common denominators we have in this problem that i can see.
i lean towards faulty batch of cables. if you plug in the cable to your phone and computer, and wiggle the middle of the cable without touching the ends, it will disconnect.
what gets me is that there is no problem when it connects to the wall usb port. that is confusing. maybe the cable needs a more heavy flow of power to stay connected, which then leads me to believe that usb drives don't have enough juice to keep the thing going, or at least variable flows of power.
i know the phone has an "issue/feature" where it will stop charging the phone completely when it gets to 100% even if you leave it on the charger. maybe some sort of overcharging fail safe right? so what if there is something wonky going on with the phones usb port, or the phone cuts off the connection thinking your done using it?
its late, im speculating just throwing stuff out there.
I'm getting the same problem. Thing is, if it needed more power, why would it still work in a mac? I didnt have this problem until I went through a few different ROMS. So I dunno. I never had this problem before root. But I dont see any reason why it shouldnt fuction normally
my phone's usb port doesn't respond since i plugged in computer usb port(which is faulty). I got my charging unit fried. Whenever i close my phone it restarts itself. And it doesnt respond non of charging devices(pc, wall, car).
Do you know if i can change OEM or maybe it's a software issue?
Thanks
I searched everywhere but haven't seen this problem. My Sprint Note 2 charges fine in every AC charger I have tried, my OTG cable registers when I plug it into the phone, but no matter what cable or USB port I try on my computer, it isn't recognized at all. No charge light, no system tray notification, no nothing. Every other device I have plugged into my computer is recognized every time.
This is complicated by the fact that I just installed a new motherboard and CPU and I hadn't used USB on my old computer for a while so I don't know if it was working before the upgrade or not. I'm going to try to find another computer to try it on, but does this sound like a bad phone USB port or a computer USB problem?
Never mind. it works on another computer, so it must be a problem with my computer.
I used to be able to connect my 5x to my PC just fine, but lately it started chopping and changing between being recognised and malfunctioning, which I think was attributable to a faulty connection. In order for me to keep it recognised by my computer I had to hold/push the USB-C in the phone extremely hard while it was connected to my computer, using the computer with one hand and keeping the USB pushed into the phone with the other. Eventually it just stopped being able to be detected at all and now even if I try to hold/push it really hard into my phone. Whenever I plug it in to either my laptop or my computer I get the same error message that it malfunctioned and was unable to be detected. I shined a flashlight on the charging port and found a large amount of lint, so I scraped that out with a safety pin confident that that was what was causing the issue. Yet it still malfunctions whenever I connect it to my computer or laptop, regardless of how hard I push/hold the USB into the phone. I'm fairly confident this is not a driver issue as it has gradually gotten worse to the point that it is no longer recognised, will I need to send it back, or is there a simple fix I can perform?

Sounds like a faulty USB C to A cable or an issue with your USB C port. Do you have to hold your USB C cable when charging through the wall outlet as well?

Also use flashlight to inspect your port or use airblower on port.
Sometimes there is lint/dust buildup (from pocket/purse) that causes inconsistent connection.

Hi all!
My computers USB port was broken and it let all the electric through (don't know how to write these thing in english)
I connect my phone to the USB and don't know that.. then my phone only charge through computers usb and pc doesn't even try to recognize it.
Then i connected my microsd cardreader to same usb and i heard "puff" and smelld burning electric.
Phone does not smell like burned or anything. Working just fine.. it only doesn't work with data transfer.
So.. is it possible to fix by myself? like changing the usb dock https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1xvUoMVXXXXaoaXXXq6xXFXXXf/5PCS-For-Xiaomi-Mi-Max-Hexa-Core-6-44-Smartphone-USB-Charging-Port-Dock-Connector-Transfer.jpg
Or is my phone bricked forever and i cant use it through usb cable?
i hope that you all understand my problem, it's hard to write these thing different language
Anyone?
Replacing the usb dock piece will probably fix your problem and isnt very hard to replace and isnt very expensive from aliexpress. I cant post links but if you go to youtube and search "mi max disassembly" it will show you how to take apart the phone and get to the piece. i have taken myn apart before and it isnt very hard at all. Hope this helps
Sorry, it's not clear to me. Is there a problem with the USB port on your phone? Or only a problem with the USB port on your computer?
You may want to try a different USB cable. Sometimes the microUSB adapters can get worn out.
Problem is on the phone. Phone only charge from usb. Settings are ok.
Same usb port broke my Canon also. It has warranty and its fixed now. It was same way broken than my phone.
Computers usb is fixed now.
