Problem with Desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I went to flash a new stable build of Froyo on my Desire this morning.
And i backed up using Clockwork, and then the ROM all installed fine. But once the phone had booted up, it stayed on the custom boot logo, despite the keypad lighting up, the green charge LED coming on and me being able to lock and unlock the phone.
So i figured that this was a problem and went to back to restore my old ROM and carry on like i have done many times before. However once i have booted into Clockwork, and gone to the recovery section, i select my most recent backup and the device then says "No Files Found" in the recovery zip.
And when i try to install update.zip from my SDCard the device just flashes up with installation text for about 2 seconds then vanishes and goes back to the clockwork menu having done nothing
What can i do?

i wouldnt worry about it too much
your phone completely works and youre not restricted of any access
seeing that clockwork is not finding any files have you tried making a new backup?
have you tampered with the recovery lately?
if recovery is not finding any files then maybe there is a problem with it, and if i were you i'd reroot my phone with unrevoked to re-install recovery.
if your recovery actually just does not work it could mean that the recovery image is corrupt, this can be fixed by installing a RUU (note that this will unroot your phone but re-install the recovery image).
if this is not the case then im sure im soon to be corrected by someone more knowledgeable than me

Well, i wiped the Cache and Data and now the phone boots up and functions fine, however both mobile internet and Wi-Fi both dont work, but i figure this is just the rom i am using.
So i'm just gonna reroot, sideload clockwork and what not and then try putting the Desire HD rom on it haha.
Thanks for the help

Can't get into recovery since I flashed latest LeeDroid 1.8b

I had Cyanogen before and I wanted to see what LeeDroid was all about.. flashed it, everything went great. Didn't like it cause Cyanogen is just so different so many more options!
So I decided to revert back to Cyanogen, to a new nightly build. I boot the phone up, goto Recovery and nothing.. it just freezes at the HTC screen. This would happen occasionally with Cyanogen and all I had to do was take the battery out and boot up again and I could get back in. I'm using Clockwork Recovery Mod SLCD.
Now with LeeDroid, I didn't even install any apps or anything, I just didn't like the Sense UI and lack of options. I powered the phone down, selected Recovery and nothing.. HTC screen and doesn't go anywhere.
I went to windows, thought I'd try reflashing using Unrevoked3 and the phone froze at the HTC screen again. I thought I bricked it.. so I took the battery out, and turned the phone on and it booted up.. checked my settings and everything was good. Tried it one more time.. then it got to the Flashing Recovery image.. do not touch your phone.. but then without saying Done or anything, the phone booted up into LeeDroid. That wasn't supposed to happen.
What the hell is going on? Now I'm scared that I might have corrupted the recovery image, my phones up and running, but I don't want to reboot it or anything in fear that it may get bricked
Have you tried to launch a recovery using fake flash?
No idea what that is.. I'm all new to this
According to this thread.. it won't work with an unrevoked root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699043
Try using Clockworkmod recovery by installing ROM Manager from the market. I always use that when upgrading or switching to a new rom.
No idea what's happening but I rebooted, and got into recovery.. flashed Open Desire and everything works now.. I think.
I still don't get why sometimes I can't get into Recovery and it just freezes.. does that happen to anyone else?

[Q] Unable to restore Incredible to stock 2.2

After messing with a custom ROM downloaded from ROM Manager, I wanted to go back to my original stock 2.2. However, when I went to do the restore of my most recent backup (done before I flashed this most recent ROM) it tells me that the MD5 sum has a mismatch and won't do the restore.
So after doing some research, I try and do a clean restore of the stock 2.2 RUU .zip, but HBOOT tells me that the PB31IMG.zip is out of date and won't do the update.
I have no other backups on my SD card or anywhere else, and I've flashed the phone to a different ROM that was downloaded to my SD card so I at least have a functioning phone. However I want to bring it back to stock in case I have to send the phone to Verizon at some point.
Security is set to S-ON for those who need to know.
Any assistance on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That worked! Restoring my backup now! Thank you!
Ok, after fixing the MD5 error and restoring my backup (and clearing the cache/data/etc) It shows the "HTC Incredible" screen, but then goes black and shows nothing at all. All buttons are unresponsive and a battery pull is necessary to get back into recovery.
What might be happening here?
I've been having the same exact problem. My phone is almost unusable right now after loading a 2.3 ROM onto to it just to see how it worked. I backupped my files and clear my cache before hand, but when I load into HB Boot and click recovery, the phone vibrates, displays the HTC logo, then goes to a black screen with two white bars on the sides. It is unresponsive and requires a battery pull.
I can reboot the phone and get into the 2.3 ROM, but it is slow and buggy. No android market, lots of force closes, and won't load my google account.
I assume the problem has something to do with Clockwork MOD recovery. Any ideas out there?

Actually it does sound like CMR, check the lastest unrevoked rooting thread to get the image and how to install it. This usuallly occurs with the slcd screens. If i'm wrong someone else let me know.
You can go here to get the SLCD recovery: http://www.incredibleforum.com/foru...nly-see-black-screen-white-bars-recovery.html
worked liked a charm. Thanks.

[Q] incredibly re-engineered v2.20 wont boot

I flashed the incredibly re-engineered v2.2 rom a week or so ago and it worked great till today it was giving me a force close on a bunch of apps, so i restared it and it still didn't help. Did a *228 and when it restated it just goes to the black screen that says htc incredible Loading then after several seconds it flashes blank for half a second then says same thing. I used rom manager to flash it. I've also used virtuous and skyraider 3.5. I'm good at computers but android is new to me as i've only had this fon 2 months. I have to do a battery pull to restart it. Any Ideas on how to fix this? I can boot into recovery but havn't been able to do anything... Never used it so not sure what to look for but like when i click recovery or factory reset, nothing happens. Oh, and i did a search but didn't come up with similiar problem.
htc incredible s-off
radio 2.15.00.07.28
Flash a different rom.
sent from my Dinc
How do I do that? When I boot in recovery mode I have option of fastboot, recovery, clear storage, simlock, and factory reset. When I select recovery it goes to bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, and power down, with reboot highlighted. Wen I select that it boots like normal than gets stuck on boot up screen.
Try fixing permissions through Rom Manager first, if not I would reinstall the rom. Be sure to do a full wipe, don't just flash over your previous rom.
If neither of those work, I would follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786436
Flash back to stock 2.2 and see if your phone starts acting the same way. If so I would take it back to verizon. If everything seems ok, re-root and flash JUST the rom and apps that you want, no kernel, themes, anything extra yet. See if that fixes the problem.
I made sure I did full wipe when I installed it so that shouldn't b problem. The issue Is i can eve get to rom manager because he Fon wont load past the boot image. And its out of warany so vzw prolly wuldnt be much help.

I would re-download a different ROM (making sure you don't have a corrupt download), check the MD5 SUM's to verify integrity of your download, mount USB Storage in Recovery to transfer the file to your USB card (when phone is off, hold down the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time), wipe all user data/factory reset and Dalvik, and then reflash the ROM of your choice.

Go to that link in my post, download the PB31IMG from the 2.2 Stock OTA, put it on the root of your SD card, boot into the bootloader and let it update. You will go back to being completely stock and unrooted. Root it and then try installing the rom again.

[Q] Help Please

I got this screen today on my htc evo 4g and cant get past it. I dont know if I killed my phone or what so i am hoping someone can help me. the picture isnt the greatest but is an android with a white box and an arrow. it just keeps looping.
Were you flashing something before this happened?
A radio update maybe?
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
i flast mikfroyo 4.62 and it was fine, then under titanium backup i accidently, restored andriod keyboard(which kept force closing it was from a different rom) so i did something and it asked to uninstall i said yes and now it goes to that screeen
You should just reflash
We're comin from a pure power source.
when i try to do anything in recovery it goes to that screen
When the screen finishes installing whatever it is installing, turn off your device. Now simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until your device starts. After a short pause, a few lines of text should scroll across the screen. At the top, you should see either S-ON or S-OFF. Hopefully, it will display S-OFF. if it does not, you need to re-root. If it displays S-ON, go to the options on the left side of the screen and select recovery. Your phone will then boot into recovery. Once in recovery, restore a nandroid backup, if you've made any. If not, go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card and then reflash whatever rom you want to flash. If you continue to return to the screen you posted, you may need to re-flash a recovery. I suggest amon_RA. You can flash its PC36IMG.zip from file from the bootloader screen (The screen I directed you to at the beginning of my reply).
Yes it does say S-off, the screen that i took a picture of the status bar at the bottom goes about half way across and then starts over again, it will go to the bootloader screen but will not engage to recovery, i do have backups i always run one before i change anything
Okay, then download the PC36IMG.zip file for amon_RA recovery by clicking on "amon_RA" in my previous post. When the download is finished, place the file on the root of your SD card (not in any folder) and then shutdown your device. Boot back into the bootloader screen. The bootloader should autodetect the file and prompt you to install. Follow the easy prompts to install. Installation should be less than 10 seconds. When you're finished, reboot into your new recovery. From there, you should be able to flash roms again. If you used amon_RA to make your backups, you *should* be able to restore them, but if you used clockworkMod, then do not attempt to restore using amon_RA.
all of my recoveries are clockworkmod, so after i change to amon ra flash a rom that i have saved and the other recoveries dont use?
Yes, the main thing is to get you up and running with a working rom. After that, I suggest you make a backup using amon_RA, however, if you want to use the backups you made with CWM, then after you've successfully flashed a rom, download the ROM Manager app and have it install ClockworkMod for you. Afterwards, you should be able to restore your previous backups.
I agree with the getting up and running part, i have heard amon ra is alot better than clockworkmod, but just hadnt tried it yet, keeping my fingers crossed that this will work, just guessing here that since i have gotten some great feedback, that i didnt brick my phone?
If your phone starts and you can get to the bootloader or recovery, you ARE NOT BRICKED!...lol
dougjamal thank you so much it got past the screen and it is acting like nothing ever happened, this is a prime reason why these forums are great, thank you everyone for reading and responding
You're very welcome, my friend. I'm glad I was able to help. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day...

[Q] stuck at splashscreen after selecting recovery

ok here goes:
I have been wanting to flash my main phone with the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425040 (Express ROM), so after backing everything up, I started. I went into recovery but noticed that I had the ra-recovery-2.3 and wanted to update to the recovery-ra-supersonic-3.11-gnm.img, so I connected phone and opened Androir Flasher, and proceeded to flash, I used the same process on the first phone. After finished I exited and went into hboot, in there I selected recovery and it went straight to the HTC splash screen and stayed put, so I pulled the battery and tried again, but got stuck same place. I am able to get back into the phone, and is is working fine, but just cant get into the recovery, to be able to flash the rom.
I did try the PC36IMG.zip method with hboot, and after going thru install, I rebooted and still no luck same screen. If I pull battery and put it back and turn on it will load up phone ok.
Guess I have to wait, anyone have any clues?
Just flash the normal Amon Ra. There's a link to the pc36img in my guide (in my sig)
I had this issue once when running MIUI and it turned out to be an app that wouldn't let me reboot in to recovery I have no idea why, but I just started uninstalling apps then tried to reboot into recovery and it worked just fine.
But since you used the system image I really dont know. sorry :/

I was able to Install the anon ra 2.3 , and with that was able to flash the express 2.1 ROM, its doing fine now. Thanks
