Hi, when I first installed 2.2 I was very pleased with the score. I always hit just above 40.
But recently something happened, the score went down to around 30. I thought I'd filled it up with all kind of crap so I flashed it. I did the setup and ran linpack directly and found out that the score still were on 30, what's up with that?
I've even compared it to my friends desire and you notice a big difference while for example scrolling the app drawer, mine is way too sluggish :/
I'm very concerned about this since I really hate choppy phones.
Thanks

greenecomputing that make linpack, changed there score system a couple of months ago, and all devices are getting lower scores than they did...... the sluggish app draw is usually because of cpu intensive live wallpapers too

It's a stock 2.2 as the title tells. Maybe I should try a custom Rom? Do you recommend anyone? I've only rooted and custom flashed my hero before..
As it has been said linpack has been changed to calculate an average over 3 runs or something like that, which gives you a more precise result. For difference you feel, I have 2 suggestions:
1. Placebo
2. Live wallpaper might slow scrolling in the app drawer down

I'm running cr_mod w/ ota update, with dumfuq's cmkernel 4.0 flashed over it, and I ran a quadrant benchmark for the hell of it and it gave me a 400 and something, while clocked at 844 mhz. Cm6 gave me a 1200 and something. Now I know my phone isn't performing that low, because frankly, although not quite as snappy, has smoother animations and such. I can see it scoring as low as an 1100 or 1000 on the stock rom, but 800 points lower? A measley 400? I'm thinking of discrediting the score, since in my everyday use, I know it is not that bad. I just can't think of what would throw the score down THAT low. Might it have something to do with the kernel I flashed?

It doesn't have jit which and it's 2.1 as we have seen putting 2.2 on a phone dramatically increases scores mainly due to jit. Though you may not see too many differences in speed but they are there.

Cm7 would be 2.3...But the score will always be lower on a sense rom than stock, Cm has perf features that cant be added to the stock rom...But if you use the jit mod for 2.1 you will get about 5xx w/ OC at max...Which is low, but you have to consider that this is meant as a mid-low range device...Have you seen some of the newest lowend androids out there? Like the optimus or whatever the LG phone is-it's nothing compared to the slide IMO.

The scores don't translate into better performance for me, in CM6 it's quick w/o OC-just like on stock where it's fast w/ def clocks. But I do like to see higher values just for the hell of it.

Yeah, haha I actually studied the quadrant test as it was running, it seems to have HORRIBLE, and I mean REALLY REALLY bad file system write times. It took forever to get past those tests.
I flashed CM6.1 stable, because of a combination of my obsessive ROM flashing syndrome (according to r0man) and my desire to get the gingerbread Latin IME on my phone. Plus, I used what's-his-face's anyfirmware theme porter to port the green theme in miguel's theme port thread to cm6.1-stable, since miguel's is based off of a nightly. The font didn't get ported, but I was in it for the visual elements anyway, so no big issue there. cm6.1 is faster, but the 2d animations are more prone to lag than sense roms, for whatever reason. Someone once told me that it was because HTC puts their own window animations in and adds more frames to them to make them smoother.
Anyway, I guess the quadrant scores didn't matter too much, sense was awesome, but I'm happy where I am with cm6.1-stable themed. Quadrant scores are quite pleasing as well
Please forgive me if this s somewhere else, but the search function is down I think.
I feel like my brand new evo is pretty laggy compared to what Ive seen. I have rooted and am running the newest stock kernel.
Ive tried Mik's rom and Myn's rom, they both net me an average score of 1100 on quadrant.
Am I way below where I should be? Seems like my menus are much "jerkier" than what Ive seen around.
Also, if anyone knows, what does wipe SD-EXT in recovery do?

I would agree that 1100 is average, but you could make your phone so much faster. Download Spare parts from the market and set you transitions and windows animations too fast. This should increase your quadrant score, thought it may take two test to show a boost. Also how long gave you had your evo on its current rom. The evo is like a person, it needs time to adapt to its kernel. So when you flash a rom, be patient and give your phone a couple day (3 or 4) to get used to the kernel. Then if performance and/or battery is bad, you can pm and i can recommend the kernel i use as well as others. With my current set up, which is Myn's RLS 5 and net 4.3 cfs, but don't worry just sit on your current set up. Good luck

Thanks, I just flashed Myn's RLS 5 a few hours ago and I have been flashing like every day since I rooted. Ill give it a few days and see what happens. My girlfriend jsut got an EVO slide and I guess I just have envy since it seems so much snappier straight out of the box.
Not to mention my battery seems to die in a matter of a couple hours and hers has gone down only 30% in the last 16 hours.

I recommend just leaving it on the same kernel for the weekend. Also do you use sense as in the clock and different widgets. Because i removed sense from my phone and get about 19 hours on a single charge with regular use.

Yeah I do use sense. Not sure if Im ready to give it up yet though ><
1100 seems like an average score for an relatively "stock" rooted Evo with a custom rom. I've had my quadrant score range from 1100 to 1300 from just a custom rom. Flashing different kernels with net you different scores also. With just netarchy's 4.1.9 no havs, Fresh 3.5, no overclock netted me a score ranging from 1300-1400. Overclocking to 1.2 ghz got to 1450-1650. I'm sure I can tweak some more to squeeze more performance out of my Evo. But usually I keep my phone at stock speed with Fresh rom and I'm satisfied with its performance.

I use MIUI and average around 1600-1700 on quadrant oc'd to 1150. The ROM itself is much smoother running than pretty much every sense rom I've tried but still not perfect. That "jerkiness" is a limitation of the EVO, no matter what ROM or kernel you use it still won't be iPhone smooth.
SD-EXT is where your apps are stored when using apps2sd. So wipe SD-EXT will wipe that partition.
I went from using stock sense with a score of 1100ish... To runnin CM6 with the stock kernel and a score of 1400 ish... My 3g speed went from an average of 450kbps to above 700... Go figure

Hi!
First of all, I have been reading around and I did not find exactly what I want to know.
Yesterday I managed to root my desire and flash the CM7 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957344). Today I've added a custom kernel, "vork" 720p (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782875&highlight=vork).
My quadrant score is still low (around 1100), even though the phone behaves much better than the stock.
I have 2 questions:
1. What can I do to make it perform even better? (i have a friend with a desire hd who just flashed a sense rom, without any added stuff and scores over 2200).
2. should i install a new "radio"? My gsm signal is much stronger than before as it is.
3. Since this is my first time, what do you think of my choices with the ROM and Kernel? I chose them because they were popular and i assumed they are well tested and function well.
Thank you for your time.
Desire HD has better processor and GPU I believe hence bigger difference. Your score is good for Desire. I got around that overclocked on LeeDroid GB ROM.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
why do you even care bout the quadrant score ? :X
if you really feel excited bout high numbers having nothing to do with ur phone performance, go with data2ext roms, quadrant gives them 3000+ points, but still they perform worse than, for example, LeeDroid.
then again, new GingerBread Sense 2.1 roms have low quadrant scores, but they are really really fast.
I dont really care about quadrant, but it seems like a valid tool for measuring performance. At least it seems that everyone is judging by that. Quite frankly the phone works very well, i am just out of ideas to make it even better. And if the scores are meaningless why do people use it?
Its probably one of those my d...ck is bigger than yours things. Anyway I used data to SD and I also had high scores but overall experience was very laggy and jerky
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Quadrant scores are mesaurable only when you launch them on stock, unrooted roms. then it can give you and idea on how this phone with this software will perform.
after rooting, some hacks or scripts make quadrant scores not real
So this means my phone is fine as it is? There is nothing more I can do to enhance it?
you can overclock it, it should all be said in your ROMs topic.
like "OC up to 1200Mhz" means you should be able to set processor speed to 1200mhz with SetCpu. it all depends on kernel i think
Ok, thanks everyone for your input! If there are any more suggestions, I dont mind.
I have three evo's two are box stock and one is rooted, and is running cyanogen mod 7 kernel and rom.
The problem is the linpak and quadrant score on the modified evo are actually lower than the stock evo. For example the stock evo is doing a linpak of 30 while my modified evo is only doing about 21. Likewise my quadrant score tends to be pretty low. I have to clock my modified evo to the max to pass the stock evo.
What gives why is my evo overclocked to 1.13 with custom kernel and rom slower? I set the profile to performance.
A while back while using the tiamat kernel I set my overclock to 1.2 and the phone just froze and shutdown did I damage the phone. This happened several times because it kept on rebooting. Today I set the clock 1.190 and the phone froze and shutdown again. Right now I am running the Cyanogen Kernel and no issues so far but why is my phone so slow. Both evos don't have much apps at all only one or two(excluding the stock sprint apps on the stock evo)
Thanks for your help
so what do u need to overclock ur phone for? does it dial faster? can u talk and hear phone calls faster? does it ring faster? I don't understand????
I forgot to mention that on quadrant my modified evo ranks below evo 2.2+ on that quadrant score chart. Is my phone defective?

I'm just curious and want to learn more. Why do you guys overclock?
I see people avg's with my my current setting are around 40. Im thinking defective phone.
Should I flash the stock rom back on and un-root and bring the phone back?
rebooted the phone and now the score is just getting crazy low 6.509 mflops
Overclocking an EVO doesn't really do all that much. It's only 200 MHz more.
Desperately need help the touch screen doesnt work and this was all the sudden
Overclocking can cause some instability, like the locked-up screen. Pull the battery and wipe cache and dalvik.
And benchmarks aren't worth anything, they can be easily tricked. Real-world usage matters. Personally, I underclock for more battery

Search the general section for supercharge script. Go to first thread and then go to original thread linked in there. Follow steps and dl update8. Run it as explained. Enjoy ur extremely faster phone. It changes memory management and stuff
Thanks for your helps guys.
Tropicalbrit your right. I really forgot the point of the phone is to see how well it works daily. In all reality I love my evo even though its not getting a high score. I was mainly just curious to see if I damaged my processor from overclocking and crashing.
I booted into recovery and used CW and booted back into a copy of sense I had. I did that linpak test again a was suprised to see how it scored 31. That's higher than CM7! So does this mean my processor is not damaged?
I will eventually go back to CM7 because I love all the effects and battery life was extended significantly. I should just probably stick with the stock kernel.
Thanks for all your help guys
I may try that supercharge script soon though if its safe.

You are running a governor which down clocks the processor. Quadrant does not tax the processor enough to hit your Max CPU speed. Set min and Max to 998 and test again. Try performance(for best results) or interactive/ondemand governers. You can change the settings in the CyanogenMod settings/ performance/ CPU settings menu.

Overclocking a phone doesnt do much other then cause over heating. If someone can give me a good reason to overclock I will gladly change my opinion.
Stock is set to optimal performance. IE HTC has performance tested the phone on this ROM and has proven no ill effects.
Custom ROMS are works in progress they have a lot of benefits and for some, are exactly what they are looking for.

Hi,
Im trying to get a bit of rock ´n roll out of my Defy+ thru serious overclocking,
im running MS2Ginger 3.0 at the moment that doesnt seem to be the perfect rom for getting great speeds, but it works.
Been running 1350Mhz for a while which seems to work rather good, going to 1400 makes my Defy more sluggish than a led slug. So that doesnt work, atleast not for what i can see.
The problem i see is when running Quadrant benchmarks, i only get numbers around 300 on the 2D test, is that normal?
Can someone tell me about a rom that could make me roll even faster and higher up in the result lists of Quadrant benchmark?
Regards.
So 214 views and nobody knows anything? Sounds impoosible on this forum
Don't know much about fast ROMs but everybody brags about CM7, of course. Also there are some people who claim Mokee os (CM7 Based) is the fastest. Check them out and let us know what you find out
Anyway, they say Quadrant isn't everything.

Ok they say the Defy is a rugged phone but hell knows if that would be healthy for it. But as they say it aint the speed that kills its suddenly coming to a stop that kills so maybe i should go for a try
I recommend setting max and min to 1350 and also performance governor, on v6 supercharger before benching run an enginge flush and kill all apps using process manager except quadrant
DEFYing the Android planet with ICS
Ok i´ll try that V6 thingie but before that i thought i would tell what i have noticed so far.
MS2Ginger stayed around 1900 score on Quadrant with a top of 2100.
CyanogenMod seems to stay around 2400 with a peak of 2501 so far.
CyanogenMod seems to be better on the hardware tests except on the graphical parts where it seems to drop a couple of FPS, Anyone know any good
advice to maximize the graphical parts of CM?
A fun thing to notice is that with the original settings and MS2Ginger i achieved a score of 1350 and now riding around 2500, pretty nice.
One down thou with CM is that i woke up this morning without a statusbar and when the alarm went off i couldnt shut it off except for rebooting the phone.

Ok now im un-supercharged again, either i did something very wrong or that script only worked in the wrong direction on my Defy+. Installed it and ended up running 1700 - 1800 scores on Quadrant, uninstalled it and is now back to 2300, dont know where the last 100 - 200 points ended up, will do some more tests before moving on to the Mokee OS rom.
Have a safe day/evening
I jujst wanted to say that im in no way is trying to put down the MS2Ginger developers work, this is just me and personal opinions in the hunt for a better performing Defy+
Cheers
in my opinion, oc-ing the defy to over 1.2ghz makes no sense and it only damages your cpu in the long run. i think that managing your ram gives a lot smoother experience than oc-ing your phone, because the only apps that dont run smooth on this little beauty are hd games, but they were never intended to. im using ram manager pro from market (play store), try it, maybe it helps!
