HTC weather. - Desire General

is anyone having any issues with weather not showing on phone, been like this for nearly 3 hrs now, Orange network.

No problems here, im on O2

I had problems all yesterday where my 'current location' would not show the weather, just the name of where I was... places I had loaded by name, i.e. london were showing fine.

Me too! Remove the widget and then re-add it. Worked for me!

why do you need an app to tell you the weather?
look out the window

Because I can't see the forecast for tomorrow from my window. And my nose lacks a thermometer, also...

I fixed the problem I had by turning off GPS and back on again...

sure
sorry for my obnoxiousness.. i just find the HTC weather app rubbish, all I ask from a weather app is a forcast for the next 24 hours.. the Google Genie widget has a good go, but really that's annoying too, with its % chance of rain thing
The day the met office release an app with decent satalite images and pressures, finally weather forcasting in the UK on Android will make some sense.
ps I can tell the temperature with my nose.. if its either hot, warm, cool, cold or bloody freezing

I am using a stock Desire with 2.2 on it and I occassionally have this problem as well. It is sometimes pretty annoying. I find having to delete it and reinstall it a pain in the backside.
I would also be interested if anyone found a more permanent solution. I agree the weather programs are not super accurate, but I live in a country where the weather changes quite often and it is nice to see how I have to dress to go to work everyday.

Sky News App battery usage???

On Network usage page (when u type in that code) , sky news app is the highest with the bar pretty much blue form 1 side to another, 2nd is media which is 3/4 blue and mail 1/2,
now iv uninstalled the sky app? as i dont use it, but wasnt it using alot of battery ? just a heads up to those who have it installed
I noticed exactly the same - was using a lot of battery and a lot of network traffic. Can only assume it synced/downloaded quite a lot.
Never really tried tweaking it to see if it could get any better as it used far, far more than the similar BBC widget and I only really needed one.
Yes I've made various comments on this forum and elsewhere Sky News Widget kills battery.
Use the app in small amounts is ok, but not the widget as it kills the battery.

[Q] Weather Application Needed

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I venture between Seychelles and Australia often and I desperately need a weather application that is accurate. I have tested many and I cant seem to find anything with the info I need.
I am looking for:
Estimated Rain Volume
Current Temp
Weather warnings
Nice looking Widget for my homescreen
Have you tried weather bug? It's on the market and I think it has all the bells you need.

I would be disgusted to see that happen, though it would be an incredibly impressive trick.

I would be surprised if they did because Sense is closed source. HTC might frown on someone using their propriety software.
.....
If you wanted sense, why didn't you just buy an evo3d. I had sense on my droid incredible and it drove me insane. So buggy and so in your face. A phone shouldn't make thunder noises. There were times I went to my homescreen and couldn't see my icons because there were random clouds on the screen lol. Seriously. The widgets are pretty, but use them for a couple of days and see just how bug and unusable they are. The news reader literally doesn't have a mark all as read button. So you either have to individually mark each story as read or just ignore the little unread story counter. The music widget doesn't update itself when the song changes with the screen off. In addition, the album art in the actually app isn't cached, so you see the album art visibly reload everytime you interact with the app. The bookmark widget stores a new thumbnail everytime you visit a webpage, but it doesn't delete the old one. So your sd card fills up with old thumbnails. The weather app almost always has a temperature that is 10 degrees off, even if you just refreshed. Try to enter a custom location in the weather app, I can almost guarantee it won't find it even if you enter the zip. So you have to enable automatic location, which is frequently wrong and drains your battery.
I hate sense and will never buy another sense phone. Rant over.
If bubby gets this phone he might... He did for the ns4g i think..

[Q] Facebook Widget not updating

Hi Guys,
I may not be the only one in this situation so maybe someone found an answer to this.
I've recently upgraded to an HTC One X (Super amazing phone) from an Android converted HD2(brilliant phone).
The only problem I've noticed is that the Facebook widget does not update on my new One X as when i turn on my HD2 works perfectly and updates as it should. I can still see updates from days ago but when i go into the actual app i can clearly see status updates etc.
Anyone having the same problem? Is there any way to resolve it?
I apologize if this issue has been raised somewhere else on the forum.
Thanks
Am I the only one with this problem???

apparently so..is facebook the only widget that does not updates itself?
Looks that way...

Mine's not working either on my Sensation - worked for a day or so and now just shows the same update - app itself works fine
Dunno about Facebook, but the Twitter widget only updates when told to. Also, I'm trying to find out why Facebook and FB Messenger don't send me notifications.
I have the same problem with mine, but when using any non-HTC widget. For example, I use a couple Beautiful Widgets (the clock and the battery status) and both of them just get stuck after a while. A reset resolves it for a while, sometimes a day or more and sometimes only for a few hours but eventually the clock and the battery indicator just get stuck. I have tried other clocks and battery indicator widgets and they too get stuck, so does the stock google calendar widget. It seems like it might be a problem with sense.
I tried to use my friendstream widget to update my FB and Twitter profiles twice yesterday, it just didn't do anything at all... I had to go into each App and update from there, then later in the afternoon it worked fine...
Buggy I guess?
I'm not sure if this helps the facebook widget, but I have tried clearing the data and re-setting the widget up. Seems to keep things going for a good while.
Same problem. No issues on Nexus and had similar problem on Sensation so pretty sure it has something to do with Sense
mine is not working either. facebook, friends widget, etc. slow and must be done manually
I think it's something to do with processes in the background, whilst Twitter seems to actively update for me, Facebook doesn't. I always close Facebook because it eats battery like a fat kid in a donut shop. Facebook for HTC Sense doesn't exist anymore, what updates in the Facebook app's news feed is what you see in Friend Stream and they update at the same frequency.

I'm the same on my HOX . My Fb widget hasn't updated for a week. The app itself is fine. This behaviour is no different from when i had my Desire! I've tried many widgets but it's the functionality of the official widget I want.
Solved for me
Was having this problem with any non-HTC widget, including a battery widget, the google calendar widget, the beautiful clock/weather widget among them. What seems to work is unchcking the "Fast boot" option in the power settings. I did this yesterday and my widgets haven't stopped now for almost 24 hours.
That's the first thing I turn off and yet the Facebook widget will not update unless I reboot the phone
Has anyone found a solution to this? Can it be that Sense is acting up as usual and because of sense our widgets are not updating as they should?

Definitely Sense. Had same issue on my Sensation but went away after I flashed a AOKP ROM. Sucks

Which Weather app is fastest with reasonable details

I have tried multiple weather apps and most are slow as you click the widget to see the details. I wonder which one is fastest among these apps?
Eye in the sky weather.

I like weather bug. The widgets are reasonably fast and their network of weather sensors is great in my area. I have one about a mile from my house so I know the temperatures I see on my phone are correct. Other apps I have used did not have sensors near so their readings were always off from what I was seeing on my actual thermometer.
I use WeatherBug Elite. It's really fast, accurate, and has alerts. I love it.
Eye in Sky is excellent. Fanastic UI, fast - really nice to use. I don't use it any more though because the weather forecasts/predictions were a little off here in Australia - some times up to 5 degrees off. As soon as this is fixed, hopefully by allowing weather data to be pulled from multi sources (for us Aussies the BOM is best) I will be reinstalling it straight away.
No love for beweather??? I've been using it forever and I like it more than anything mostly because of how it looks and performs. There's a paid version which includes widgets I believe and free version to try it out. I have paid version and the widgets looks pretty awesome.

I really want a weather widget myself and prefer rings digital clock widget but reviews say that it crashes on 4.2
I love fancy widgets. It's always accurate enough for me and has my favorite skins. So much customization you can make it whatever you want it to be.
I think it really depends on where you live. I used weatherbug in NY an now use eWeather HD in San Antonio, TX. I also use 1weather for my notifications even though eWeather has that option. I also use skymotion to check rain in the immediate area.
Everyone brings up a good point. It depends on where you are. I think accuracy is more important than speed. Whatever works for your area.

I have been really happy with weatherbug elite. I also like notification weather pro for a quick forecast.
This not a "weather' app but I use it all the time. Especially in the summer. Damn t-storms.
Raindar. It is old but works great. Launch it and it goes straight to a radar. I have had it set to launch by double tapping with nova launcher. App has settings for storm tracks and info.
Another app that does the tracking of storms but better is storm eye.
I also enjoy the always overlooked stock news and weather app. The sliding graph with temp and precipitation chance is great.
I've been reviewing a whole bunch of popular Android weather apps over on Google+.
The best UI is Eye in Sky but as others have already noticed, the weather provider used isn't very accurate, which is a real shame. Also, the guy who develops it doesn't have much time to spend on it at the moment so I'm not sure updates are going to be forthcoming.
So far I've looked at Google Now, AccuWeather, WeatherBug, WeatherPro, UK Weather, Eye in Sky and I have lots more to cover (including Yahoo!, Met Office and others). The one I'm currently using is HD Widgets. Not only are the widgets excellent, with a big selection of sizes, styles, tablet and 4.2.1 lockscreen support, but you can choose from three different weather providers. I heartily recommend it. Not sure it's free though...
The most accurate so far is between Google Now and UK Weather. The former is obviously UK only though. I wish there was a Holo-style widget for Google Now Weather... that would be awesome.
The biggest providers for other apps seem to be Yahoo!, AccuWeather, WeatherBug and Weather Underground. Most weather apps seem to use one of these so finding one that lets you choose is a real benefit as accuracy may depend on your country.

Sounds like you've done a bit of work.
Have you looked at Weatherzone or PocketWeather yet? Both are really nice. :good:
I'm always after new suggestions. But I do need to stop at some point and see if there is a clear winner!
So far though it's quite frustrating as some apps are accurate with a crappy UI or awful widgets, whereas others look amazing but their accuracy blow. Finding something that is good at both is harder than you think.
HD Widgets are experimenting with a new theme that looks like Chronus/cLock/Climaticons/Eye in Sky which could well be "the one" but if someone works out how to get a Google Now card into a choice of light or dark Holo widgets then I think I could stop looking.
PocketWeather and Weatherzone seem to be Australia-only though so not much use to me here in the UK.
