Hello all,
First, I would like to thank everyone for all that they have done on this forum.
I currently Run DamageControl 3.5 and and stock Eclair with Root as well. I love them both.
However, my friend just got an Evo and he did the OTA update to FROYO right away. The only problem is, I am not sure how to root him, or where to send him. I have looked around and can not really find any information. My assumption is that getting him back to eclair is the fastest way. I am not sure.
Any thoughts?
It's not possible .. yet.
Please read the Q&A section, there's a sticky.

no and read the sticky in q&a
Thanks to both of you!
You can downgrade, using one of the previous builds.. try a search, I used simple root for one of my phones, then upgraded to 2.2 froyo with netarchy's newest build.

Huh? I don't think that's correct information
from the very useful information i have ben reading on this forums, once u got froyo, you are stuck, theres no going back to previous versions or rooting untill further notice. i may be incorrect, but thats my understanding.
Once you install OTA Froyo, YOU ARE STUCK WITHOUT ROOT for now. Sit back wand wait, there is currently no way to root it.
Also, this belongs in Q&A forum, not dev.

Make it two thousand and i'm in. I have tried forty different combos from trying to change the some codes without breaking the signature to going old school running loop.bat then trying to push the update.zip or Image right after it has verified the signature( This method is dangerous but Dev's know what i am talking about). My head just popped.
So...how to put Gingerbread on Desire with Froyo? I want to do it
My Desire is rooted, S-OFF and unlocked....what with that if I put Ginger on it? It will stay like that or i need to do it again?

You cant put GB directly into the Desire, as update for the Desire GB is not ready yet, instead try GB port ROMS, like Oxygen or Ginger Villain
Here is the Desire Index, and go to links in Ginger Bread ROM section:

Ok Thank you for your answer
So, can you tell me, please, what about S-OFF, root and unlocking in case to put stock GB on my device (I found some ways how to put stock GB )?
And if I loose all of that, can I make it again as on Froyo?

S-Off information Here.
Root, unlock information Here
AdamG's DevNull rom is probably the closest thing to stock GB there is. To make it Froyo again you could Nandroid restore to your original Froyo rom, Flash on a froyo rom, or run an RUU and restore your device to an official Froyo build.

Its weird, that you have managed to do S-OFF and ROOT(ok, its not difficult) and then not sure how to do reflash of new ROM?
Anyway, if you reflash, your ROOT and S-OFF will stay, so not to worry

So, if I can have some suggestion, if you want clean, fast and most importantly stable Gingerbread, go for REDUX, its so far the best GB ROM I have tried.
But if you want Sense(I understand, I love Sense as well and it took me a while to get used on Sense free roms) then I'd recommend ReflexTSense, which unfortunately, still is 2.2, but its great HD rom, very nice, designed for big screen and everything looks smaller on original Desire(and better)

Yes that is the right guide to do a perm Root. Also what rom version is the Desire Z on? If it's on the 1.72 or 1.82 you will have to downgrade to 1.34 before you can root.
ROOT USING THIS GUIDE
If your on 1.72 or 1.82 DOWNGRADE USING THIS GUIDE.This downgrade will work for the 1.82 version, even though its for the 1.72
thank you guys for all your help I did it
Now the only thing is to choose very stable and working rom ?
Could you recommend any?
Thank you

For me stability is important, so is minimizing the number of times I have to wipe my device. So I avoid pre-release ROMs including RC's so I'm running the stock rooted ROM right now but anticipate moving to CM7 as soon as it's released and verified as stable.
Hi guys,
I was wondering if there were currently any stable overclock kernels out there compatible with an htc desire z running android 2.3.3 with sense 2.1??
Cheers

I can't say for certain that these will work with the stock ROM, but they are your best bet.
UnityV4
Virtuous Sense a7
Have you conisidered try a custom ROM? if you want to keep it as stock as possible I recommended Virtuous Sense 2.0
Try unity v4 kernel, its for all sense based runs. Let's you OC up to 1.7 ghz. Link is in my signature.

I don't actually want to try a custom ROM right now, as i really like the stock one as it is. I may well try that one though when im bored of it! Is that sense 2.1 or just 2.0?

It is sense 2.1, it is based off the official 2.3.3 DZ update, think of it as what you have all ready but with optimizations.
Oh and welcome to the DZ forums.

That is correct, download rom manager, flash CWM, boot in to CWM and flash .zip
Easy, but if you need anymore help, hop over to the Virtuous Rom IRC and I will be happy to talk you through it

There is a way but I'm very well versed in how to do it. If you read the DZ/G2 wiki it links you to a guide on to root 2.3.3.
if you need further help head to the 'G2ROOT IRC channel
I updated to the 2.3.3 OTA too, and I followed this guide here :

Worked perfectly well
Hi guys, got nitro hd a few weeks later. Till now never rooted and it's still in gb 2.3.5. Now wanted to try something and thought of upgrade or flashing a roms.
So what I need is, should i go for official ICS or cm rom. And as I'm a noob would like a detailed tutorial on flashing/rooting.
Thanks in advance.

Here's my suggestion of how to progress into the custom ROMs world...
1. Read about rooting your Nitro. Look in our Dev Forum for guides on doing it.
2. Root while you're still on 2.3.5 (to circumvent any of the stated issues with rooting Official ICS), also install CWM (ClockworkMod) on it as it will allow you to easily install ROMs.
3. Then try the CM9 ROM nightlies. It's fast, stable and smooth.
4. After you've gotten comfortable with that and have gone through a few nightlies...Then you can feel free to venture forth into the other custom ROMs (MAKE SURE you're familiar with making proper backups in case you want to revert back to previous builds/ROMs), or even the CM10 Preview builds.
Good luck!

Sorry to Hijack .But isnt it like a Pain to Root the Official ICS update ,wouldnt it be easier to root on 2.3.5 and install CWM and then flash ? Im not second guessing you ,I just got my Nitro HD today but been reading that the process to root ICS is kind of long and tricky.

You could be right. I rooted mine back on 2.3.5 so I haven't gone through any of the hassles as have been stated with rooting from official ICS. I shall adjust my original post.
Doble check.
OP double check your baseband version cuase if its 2.3.5 V10j ,it has been stated that its nearly impossible yet doable after many tries.
To be honest, I don't know more details about the android world. Can someone plz link the basics of android like cwm, adb & so I can have some basic knowledge about it.
Actually, I feared I would brick it.
And thanks guys for the replies.

If you wanna try the official ICS, get cwm from ROM manager. Then download honos flash able official ICS. Try it out, if you like it, keep it, if you don't, switch to something like cm9 or cm10 or hono's full throttle or honos aokp, the choices are endless, all you need to do is search .

Try the official ics before custom ics, it's WAY faster than official gingerbread, it's stable and once debloated it's pretty perfect as it is to me.
Then if you want to taste something else, try the cm9/10 but I would let them as a second passage to ics/jb.
For the official rom you can either flashing with lg tool (using the before - after rooting method brianlily posted here) or go with cwm as stated by rani9990, it should be the same.. the substantial difference is that if you don't put the cwm recovery before ics, then you'll need to go through partial unbrick process to revert back to gingerbread, because on ics the cwm won't be possible to install.
