My EVO 4G will no longer boot into recovery, it just sits at the white HTC EVO 4g screen and never goes anywhere past that. Nothing has changed on my phone except I did get an upgrade for Superuser, it is running version 2.3.5 and the Su binary v 2131230734. This is the only thing that has changed on my phone but for some reason I cannot boot into recovery anymore. I am using clockworkmod 2.5.0.1 recovery and in Rom Manager, doing reboot in Recovery it is staying at the white HTC Evo 4g screen. I have also tried holding the volume down button when powering on the phone and choosing recovery and from there it is doing the same thing. I have tried reflashing clockwordmod in rom manager and still no success. At this point I am not sure which direction to go since I would like to backup my current rom install a different rom since my wifi tether suddenly stopped working. Does anyone have any suggestion on a fix for this? Thank you.
My phone does this every once in a while. A battery pull usually solves it. I don't know man.
Maybe you should try and battery pull for about 30 seconds to a minute, if that doesn't work, I would flash a different recovery and try again.

I had Cyanogen before and I wanted to see what LeeDroid was all about.. flashed it, everything went great. Didn't like it cause Cyanogen is just so different so many more options!
So I decided to revert back to Cyanogen, to a new nightly build. I boot the phone up, goto Recovery and nothing.. it just freezes at the HTC screen. This would happen occasionally with Cyanogen and all I had to do was take the battery out and boot up again and I could get back in. I'm using Clockwork Recovery Mod SLCD.
Now with LeeDroid, I didn't even install any apps or anything, I just didn't like the Sense UI and lack of options. I powered the phone down, selected Recovery and nothing.. HTC screen and doesn't go anywhere.
I went to windows, thought I'd try reflashing using Unrevoked3 and the phone froze at the HTC screen again. I thought I bricked it.. so I took the battery out, and turned the phone on and it booted up.. checked my settings and everything was good. Tried it one more time.. then it got to the Flashing Recovery image.. do not touch your phone.. but then without saying Done or anything, the phone booted up into LeeDroid. That wasn't supposed to happen.
What the hell is going on? Now I'm scared that I might have corrupted the recovery image, my phones up and running, but I don't want to reboot it or anything in fear that it may get bricked
Have you tried to launch a recovery using fake flash?
No idea what that is.. I'm all new to this
According to this thread.. it won't work with an unrevoked root.

Try using Clockworkmod recovery by installing ROM Manager from the market. I always use that when upgrading or switching to a new rom.
No idea what's happening but I rebooted, and got into recovery.. flashed Open Desire and everything works now.. I think.
I still don't get why sometimes I can't get into Recovery and it just freezes.. does that happen to anyone else?
hi all, my wife has been running cm6.1 and lately it has had a few issues, so i go to download through rom manager, it fails downloading several times, download on a computer and transfer it over, boot into recovery through rom manager(i feel retarded for this one... no back up, didnt wipe) and install, well, it goes to the cm boot animation, sits for a long time, then i remember i didnt wipe so i attempt to get back into recovery and wipe, well, some how, the phone managed to go back to the stock recovery... needless to say i became very very confused...
does anyone have any insight?
thanks in advance
If you havent s-off, then you probably will see stock recovery and need to flash the update.zip to get to clockworkmod. I think i remember that right.

i finally did get cm 7 up and running, and in rom manager it says that i have the latest availible clockwork recovery, but i can only get to it if i rebot to recovery through rom manager, if i go through the boot loader, it takes me to the black screen with the ! in the triangle, then after several button pushes takes me to stock recovery
This happens because ROM Manager reads the altered 'update.zip' from your SD card and it is recommended you use that program (app) to do all your loading and ROM stuff. Though if your phone is powered off you can hold Volume Down and power then after getting to the Triangle "!" screen pressing volume up and power gets you to altered 'update' screen.
hey guys, i've just flashed CyanogenMod 7.0.3 to my device and the wifi turns on, can see wifi networks and accepts my WEP password, however hangs at "Obtaining IP address...", eventually disconnecting and trying all over again.
I was previously running the 7.0 release with no problems and in my newb naivety i failed make a backup of the ROM.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: Now i cant boot into recovery. I just get the bootloader screen (i think? the white one with the skateboarding Androids at the bottom?) and selecting Recovery just sends me back there. This has now gone from an expected easy fix to something thats starting to get me worried. Can anyone help?
Do a full wipe and re-install the rom again, chances are something corrupted the 1st install which does happen apparently.Don't worry too much mate, over the past 2 weeks ive installed and re-installed about a dozen times and on a few occasions been in exactly the same spot your in.
thanks, but no can do. I cant boot into recovery and thus cant wipe and re-install...
Dumb question, you are holding down the volume(down) and power button at the same time to get into recovery mode??
Wow that's weird, try going into ROM Manager and flashing a different version of Recovery.
thanks for the responses guys. Yeah im doing the vol down + power to get to recovery. I cant get further than the white skateboarding Android screen. ROM manager doesnt let me flash new recovery versions because there aren't any.
You can flash a older recovery, scroll to the bottom when in RomManager and select All ClockworkMod Recoveries and try to flash something like 3.0.0.6

yeah when i do that i get "No legacy recoveries found"
EDIT: i turned on my mobile data and now i can choose older recoveries from ROM manager but i still cant boot there regardless of which one i choose
PS can a mod change the title of the thread cos i realize now my problem is more to do with booting into recovery rather than the wifi issues. Thanks
reading around it seems like i need to use fastboot to reflash the recovery.img from my computer. will try it tonight
I have an Evo 4g and randomly the screen shutoff and would not turn back on. I took out the battery and put it back in and it still would not turn on. The only thing working was the Green LED. I attempted to start Clockworkmod to go to one of my backups. I pushed volume down and power, then went into recovery but it just got stuck on a bootloops. I tried flashing amon Ra and going into recovery and it came up for a split second then went back into the bootloop. I had Cyanogen mod 7 installed on it. It worked just fine and ive installed roms with clockworkmod and Rom Manager before. I did not recently install or change anything which is why I dont know what going on. Please help if you can.
I've tried searching, but there are so many "variances" in my situ. I figure I'll never find a complete answer.
Contract is up, so I would like to get it back to unrooted, stock with stock recovery.
Background
I got the EVO 4G in December, 2010, I honestly do not recall whether I used Unrevoked or Revolutionary to root it. I thought it was Unrevoked, but found a Revolutionary folder on the PC, it's had ROM manager and CWM since the beginning.
In the two years I've had it, I tried a few ROMs. The last one started getting buggy last month, so I installed a rooted stock rom 2.2.
I installed a stock unrooted ROM 5.07.651.1, then flashed stock - recovery.img.
HBOOT 2.10.0001 S-OFF
After that was all complete, everything looked good...
I did vol down - power and got the red triangle & exclamation point.
The next day I simply turned the phone on and got the red triangle & exclamation point.
Did a battery pull, waited 5 mins same thing.
Waited an hour, battery back in and powered up fine, except I ran Root Checker and it still had root.
I reinstalled ROM Manager and CWM to be able to look at things closer.
Now, I get the red triangle & exclamation point intermittently on boot-up and everytime I try to do a recovery after vol down - power press or through ROM Manager's "Reboot into Recovery" option.
At this point, I'm in over my head, I don't want to brick it, so I'm looking to more experienced folks for help.
Thanks In Advance,
Can you boot into CWM, or is that when you get the red triangle? Sounds like you need to reinstall your recovery. I (and many others) prefer an Amon Ra-based recovery, like Smelkus, over CWM on my OG EVO. Do a search for it here on XDA.
Sent using my HTC EVO LTE and a magic wand
I got the red triangle (as expected) doing vol down & power on. Did not expect it after volume up and power on, CWM would not load either.
The issue was something was corrupted.
I did an RUU with an older version of a stock ROM and recovery, now all is well.
Thanks,
