Sorry for the noob question but after I downloaded my phone can't find a program to open the file. Do I need to hook up my pc to the phone and open it with the pc? I'm just trying to figure out how to place the files on the root of my sd card so I can flash...right?
Thanks
Charles

Just place it on the root of your SD card, then power off and boot into Hboot by holding down volume down and pressing the power button. the phone will recognize the pc36img.zip file and ask you if you want to update. select yes, wait for it to complete. and then select yes when it asks you if you want to reboot.

How do you know which hboot the phone is running ? (I'm on CM)

what benefits does having a newer hboot give?
I still run eng 76.2000 and havent had any issues

I flashed to 2.10.0001 hboot today and my phone would not boot. I am running CM6 6.1.1. I was told that after flashing hboots you will have to reflash your kernel. This seems like very important info to know so I just wanted to throw it out there if anyone gets stuck in my boat. It's just a good idea in general to keep the current kernel you are using on your SD just in case. Hope this helps any issues

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
I am not sure what I did but I have been on an old version of Amon recovery. I got the urge to update to newer version and also flashed clockwork thru Rom Manager...
I went to go into recovery to Flash ....as most addicts do...and I could not get past Hboot. THANK YOU......Tried every pc36img I could find to no avail until finding these.
Hboot .76....

How to upgrade HBOOT and RADIO (S-OFF)

Dear all,
i hope you not hate me because this noobs question...
i use ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.5
and already S-OFF.
now i want to upgrade my Radio and Hboot.
what should i do..?
is it just the same like flashing the ROM..?
thx
download the radio & hboot files that you would like to upgrade to.
rename it to PB31IMG.zip and place on the root of your sd card.
boot into bootloader and it will ask you if you want to update, press up to confirm.
BE SURE TO NANDROID BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING
Quoted from another thread...

FYI, the hboot loop occurs because installing hboot wipes your kernel. Install a kernal and you'll be good to go, no nandroid required.

So make sure you have a kernel or an entire rom ready to flash, as you probably will be looping without it.
thx for your helping answer ...
is there anything else that might change if i upgrade HBOOT or RADIO ? (besides kernel).
Im having a problem updating my radio. Everytime I boot into bootloader it tells me that there is No/Wrong Image
Bump need help solving this

Radios and HBoot images are not to play around with. If you don't know what you are doing this is the EASY way to brick your phone. Read, read, and read some more on what you are doing before you just go screwing with critical elements of your phone.

[Q] How exactly do I reroot with S=Off?

Ok so i had root and custom rom and all that, then i decided to switch back to the stock with the latest RUU, i already had S off before i did this and i hear you can get clockwork back on again if its off, but uhhhh im a complete newcomer almost when it comes to rooting so how exactly do i do that?
If you follow the directions here, you'll have clockworkmod recovery back: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788306
(I linked to this one because it works on both AMOLED and SLCD screens )
Edit: Flashing via HBOOT is as simple as holding Vol Down while your phone starts up and selecting yes when it asks you if you want to flash PB31IMG.zip (the file you just copied over).
S-off allows your phone to flash any PB31IMG file, while S-on phones check for a signature from HTC. Because of this, I recommend a healthy dose of caution when flashing PB31IMG files, as flashing malicious or corrupt one could spell trouble.

Yes to both, but you'll want to make sure that the file is meant to be flashed from HBOOT before doing so - I'm a bit cloudy beyond this, but try to research for the difference between files that are meant to be flashed in HBOOT and ones that are meant to be flashed in recovery.

[Q] Original stock rom update.zip file

Hey I need some help. I have been trying to reformat my phone with the original stock ROM but I cannot get the RUU to work. Every time that I try to use the RUU executable file to reinstall the original ROM it can't detect my phone. I really need help with this my phone is incapacitated right now. If someone could help me find a rom that I could use here that would be fantastic. Thanks
what happened that your phone is not working? are you rooted, s-off? what rom where u on b4?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
It is S-Off and I am not sure if it is still rooted. I have been switching back and forth from the cyanogen mod and the stock rom, and I tried doing a system restore on the stock rom and it didn't really change anything but I don't think it can do root things anymore. It has been asking me to do a system update but every time I try to install it it fails.

Your failed update is probably due to your still having a modified recovery.
Something that could work for you:
>run the .exe for the RUU, then minimize it.
>start/run/type "%temp%" in the dialog box.
>search the output for rom.zip
>move the rom.zip to your sdcard and run it from hboot.
this should go through the rom installation and restore your rom. it's worked a couple times for me when I messed up recoveries.
Good luck!
BTW do you have HTC sync installed on your computer? not having that might be missing the driver for your phone.....just a thought
I tried extracting rom.zip out of the temp directory but the file was corrupted. Maybe the RUU doesn't work at all? I don't know. If you can get me a rom.zip that isn't corrupted that would be fantastic. Thanks!

Make sure SD card is formatted to fat32. Rename it so it is PB31IMG.zip(If on Windows and have fileextensions turned off rename it PB31IMG. The .zip will already be added.)
Put on root of SD card meaning not in any folders and boot into hboot. The phone will ask you to update, select yes and wait for it to ask you if you want to reboot.

To get s-on you need to have CW recovery. Wish you would have mentioned this before. You need to flash clockwork recovery again then apply the s-on. Then re run the previous PB31IMG.
Wow this is so freaking nuts. Ok so I tried running the S-ON .zip file that they provide using CW Recovery. Problem is now unrEVOked forever doesn't support my radio, radio-1.00.00.02.09. I will try to contact them unless you all have another idea. Thanks for your help so far!
If your still s-off you can flash a supported radio through Hboot much like the get back to stock PB31IMG you just ran. But if you ran the one I provided earlier you should be on a .92 hboot and a 2.15.00.07.28 radio, which is supported for s-on.
Here, download one of the ones that S-ON if compatible with and put it on the root of your sd card, and boot into hboot. Be sure its called PB31IMG.zip, or else it won't work.

Ok so I tried updating to a radio compatible with the unrEVOked S-ON update. When I try to run the file the recovery screen blacks out and then goes back to the main menu. It doesn't give me any output as to why that happened or if it even did anything.
You should flash RUUs from within HBOOT, not Recovery. An RUU includes everything from radio, to ROM, to recovery.
You can still do this with S-ON, since it is signed.
I'm not on the RUU I know how to install that. I need to use the S-ON .zip file that i got from unrevoked.com

You don't flash radios in recovery you flash radios in HBOOT. Make sure you rename the file to the proper filename then it should automatically detect it and install it.
Again like I said before, if you simply install the RUU from within HBOOT that would revert everything back to stock including the radio. Then you could run S-ON from within the stock recovery. But if you want to do it the other way so that you run the S-ON patch from within ClockWork that's fine too.
Haha well i have not explained things properly so let me explain where I am at right now very clearly.
Right now I have HBOOT updated using an RUU with a radio that unrEVOked forever works with. I have rooted and installed Clockwork Recovery. Now, I go to install the S-ON using Clockwork and then the screen blacks out and it returns to the Clockwork main menu without giving me any output.
Hopefully that clears things up
Ok sorry I thought you had trouble flashing the radio.
Yes I do believe the S-ON patch is installed within recovery, I just did it a few days ago and it worked fine. I was using the 7.28 radio. I believe I just did a normal .zip install in clockwork.
This sounds stupid, but make sure you're not pushing the power button. In ClockWork you have to push the optical pad to make selections, it's unlike HBOOT. I can't think of anything else.

[Q] Upgrading HBOOT from 0.75, AlphaRev failed?

I recently bought a Desire (A8183) and it came with HBOOT 0.75.0000 and I am trying to get S-OFF on it. I tried using AlphaRev and it came up with an error in step 3. How do I overcome this?

1st: Wrong topic, you should post it in Q&A.
2nd: Have you flashed any custom ROM??? If so, thats why you cannot S-OFF it, try any near-to-stock, froyo rooted rom and then try again, this will do the trick
Cheers

Oops, wrong subforum, didn't realise.
Yes I'm running a custom ROM I'll try a Froyo-based ROM and see if that helps.
It's a shame that Revolutionary doesn't support this version of HBOOT, is there any way of 'tricking' Revolutionary to S-OFF the 0.75 HBOOT?

You can always update bootloader... if you have a goldcard then put the attached file in the root of your sd-card, and then boot into bootloader and wait for it do do it's thing.. when it prompts you select yes. This will update your bootloader to version 0.93.1002
You shouldn't lose any data, but do make a backup of the ROM in recovery in case you get a bootloop.
Then run Revolutionary.

I downloaded the file and put it on the root sdcard... Bootloader seemed to just skip over the file though.
Do I need to change the text file in the zip to my CID or anything else? It doesn't like it
you need a goldcard, so it ignores the CID.. or actually.. what network are you on?
EDIT: Just noticed lol
Wait I'm downloading a Telstra RUU and I'll give you a new PB99IMG
try this. If not, then you can always use the RUU to do a full update, and then S-OFF and flash a custom ROM.
Thanks I'll give it a try.
I have four microSD cards at home and I've tried gold carding all of them... I don't know how successful I was cos I couldn't do what I wanted on the Desire HD

Okay, well I'm gonna get to sleep now but I'll give you some advice before you go.
If you can't update the bootloader with that, I'd suggest backing up your ROM (if you havent done so already), flashing the RUU to bring it up to the latest bootloader version, and then using revolutionary.
Once you've S-OFF'd with revo. Use android flasher to flash recovery (Note: your backup will not work if you do not flash the same version of recovery) and then do a full wipe and flash a ROM of your choice.
Would you happen to know where I can get the original Telstra RUU from? I think that might be my best bet.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks - this looks like it worked now HBOOT 0.93.0001, running revolutionary now.
Is there any benefit in upgrading HBOOT at all? What does 1.02.0001 offer?
Hboot 1.xxxx is the stock hboot for gingerbread. So it offers you nothing. By flashing a hboot like cm7 (most roms fit in this hboot), you get much more space for installing apps, because its /data partition is much bigger.

Stuck at White HTC Boot Screen, Can't get to Recovery

Hey,

I got the file from here

Is there a way for me to get to recovery? My phone won't boot past the screen, I assume if I can get back to recovery I can wipe it and use a different ROM. Thanks

Are you still showing S-OFF? When you flash your hboot you also have to flash a new kernel in order for it to boot, the recovery on the other hand should still work regardless.

With S-ON you'll only be able to flash PC36IMGs that have been signed by HTC, otherwise it will reject it. This one here should work for you though.
