what does it say on the box?

would need to check when in the office tomrrow, but is it really that simple?

not all the time, but in my case it says on the box 3.7-inch AMOLED touch sensitive screen, you could also try the "black screen test" copy a black wallpaper to your device, look at the image in full screen in a dark room, if you see any light bleading from the screen, chances are its slcd

If it's brand new, and on Orange I'm pretty sure it'll be SLCD like mine is.

No mention on the box at all, its the Orange box so its just generic Orange stuff
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

I it does not say Amoled then is SLCD, check if it says 3.7 inch touchsense or something like that then is SLCD.
But as said before if on the specs there is no AMOLED then is SLCD

It's not that simple. It could be AMOLED as well.

If you download the Android SDK you can use adb shell to enter the following command:
dmesg | grep blank
If it says Samsung OLED then its AMOLED. Or Sony TFT is SLCD.

Typical of HTC, they release a public name and non-public name, just like "Touch Pro2" .. and "Rhodium" they are the same
same goes for the desire i guess "Desire" and "Bravo" ... same
Inseparable!
I love the colour and style of the graphite HTC Desire. Under the light it shines and appears to be in different colours.
Mine came from Mobile Phones Direct, ordered last Wednesday and got it Thursday and have been inseparable from it ever since.... Is that sad??

Just got me new Desire

Hi
Just got me a refurbished Desire from 3 for a very decent price, so I never got the original box which means I have no way of knowing what type of screen I have
It has Android version 2.2 is that scone or custard slice? haha, so can I asume it will have a SLCD screen
also why does it have a purple tinge, I read that somewhere else and hoped mine wouldnt be like that, will need a cover that goes over the whole phone to be honest cos its not good for my street cred having a purple phone, haha
on the hunt for a decent theme to use, the live screens are great but will get bored of them sooner or later, ive seen some that change the look of all the icons, how do I get one of them installed?
any links for the push software so i can get an alert from facebook
thanks for your help

All 3 desire phones are amoled, mate manages a 3 shop

Easiest way to confirm what screen you have is turrn on your camera in a pitch black room. If its amoled the screen will stay pitch black on your phone, if its slcd you will easily notice any sort of light bleeding around the edge of the screen. I think I'm right in saying that?

There is no superAMOLED in HTC Desire. AFAIK that is a Samsung-exclusive feature.

[Q] Can I rebrand the Desire, after unbranding?

Hello,
I want to root my Phone and unbrand it. At the moment I have a T-Mobile DE Branding with Android 2.2 (Froyo) Radio 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27.
My question is, can I flash the t-mobile rom again in case of warranty?
And where can I download this specific rom file?
I dont find it in the sticky thread in the Development section or can I flash a older version?
I hope you understand what I mean.
Greetings, Strece
I think you should be ok if you just flash one of the T-Mo Uk RUUs that can be found in the sticky.
The only T-Mobile UK RUU is for AMOLED-screen Desires. If you've just got you phone it'll be SCLD so it won't work
The mobile phone was bought on the 03.07.10 and then exchanged because of a defect over again on the 20.07.10 for a new one.
How can I check which display type I have?
Greetings, Strece

I will look on the box when I finish working ^^, but I got a new one without a new box, so the specifications from the box is for the old phone, not for the new one.

As far as I know, PVT-4 devices don't say on the box whether they are slcd or amoled. So, it's hit or miss.
AFAIK all PVT4 Desires are SLCD as the PVT4 variant came after the switch to SLCD
Actually, I am quite sure that pvt4's are both slcd and amoled. I bought a desire 2 months ago with a friend of mine, both are pvt4. Mine is slcd and his is amoled. Both just said TFT touchscreens on the box.

How have you found out which display the mobile phone has?
On my box stand AMOLED, but I got a new one without box, so the box infos are not really correct.
EDIT: I have a PVT3 SHIP S-ON Desire

Once you have both phones side by side you can see the difference immediately. Especially on the whites. Amoled has a blueish tint, and slcd has yellowish. Slcd is much sharper though.
Unfortunately though, you cannot tell one screen from the other unless you have both of them in front of you.
Ok the firendly HTC Support Hotline has told me the manufactury date 26.03.2010 with AMOLED Displays.
So with an AMOLED Display I can flash an older TMO Rom for rebranding?
You can tell by looking at the blacks. The AMOLED will have a MUCH darker black..will blend right to the edge. Or you can put a single drop of water on the screen where there is a dark colour next to a lighter area. If it's AMOLED, you should see small pink sub-pixel "teeth". You have to look closely though.

Thx, when I put a drop of water on the screen, I see this pink sub-pixels at the edge of the drop.
So I think I must have an AMOLED Screen, so with this I have no problem with flashing old T-Mobile Roms?

resize the image please, however this is obviously an HW problem, you should return the phone to HTC if you're still covered by warranty
i am currently on military tour in afghanistan, so returning is obviously not an option, do i need to get a new lcd or the digitizer? i can fix it myself

you need a new lcd, but you will have to detach the lcd from the digitizer and then reattach the lcd to the old digitizer, that's tricky...there's also a thread on how to do it in the general section

well, from what i see it is an LCD+Digitizer already assembled... that's the easiest way but it costs a bit more... but i don't know what is AUO
ah well, gonna get that, can you link to the post you said about showing how to replace the screen?
here you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720900
AUO is Acer and Sony is Sony.
I guess I read that AT&T (XL) has the Sony LCD and the International one has AUO.
Not sure if they have any differences or each other will fit in the other one.

[FIX] Fix the yellowish screen tint!

Warning!!! As someone commented he was totally unaware of this problem until he used this fix and it destroyed his experience with his phone
[REQ]Any developer that could help me with something? I want to make this app matching system UI with ready filters and put it in Setting so that it will look integrated like the galaxy screen settings, that would help ppl think the screenproblem is just a soft problem and doesn't depend on hardware. Please be kind and PM me
As many have noticed, and even made some ppl crazy is the yellow tint on our screen(HTC One X, Xperia Ion, S etc).
Searching for screen filtering at play store made my day!
Then i found this app: LINK
I installed it and then made a filter with:
Red 0
Green 0
Blue 6-8
Brightness: 100%
Contrast: -0
That made me feel like replacing the whole screen!
Second thing you should do is:
Press the MENU-button and go in to Options
Autorun [YES]
Hide status bar icon [YES]
Enjoy your screen! :victory:
What about the yellow spots can we use it for that?

Hmm, these problems happened to some people i know who bought the HOX at release, or close to release. The manufaturers sent them a letter with apology and that they have the right to claim a new device if they return them.
Some had extreme color defects, others had very sesitive screens(tapping on the side would make the screen look like when tapping on a LCD TV, color disorder).
What you have is not the default yellow tint i meant, our screens if you compare to others is a bit more yellow by default, you have some kind of disorder, either you should return it for service or you should try this app: LINK

Hi dude! Ofcourse i remember! Hows it going developing? Im glad to hear from you again! And I see you have earned a nice title! Congratulations!:laugh::laugh::laugh:
Yes I know the difference but this is a a discovery for me.
Thanks..
Tested the app you posted.. Great idea indeed.. But I found the little yellow tint that I have on the screen more comfortable with warm and more saturated colors than any other device.

How do I know if I have tint issues?
My screen seems beautiful?
Unfortunately, I had yellow tint issue too. Since it was a hardware problem, I waited 3 weeks for the technical service to change the entire screen.
Now I'm a happy HOX user with no screen issues

I'd always been a bit annoyed by my yellow hue - and this app works to removed it 100%
Would be nice to have a way of making this change without needing to use a separate app.
exactly.. and app causes lag too.. when enabled. i m on jellybean.

I never received one of these letters, wonder how I go about sorting this out as I have two dots at the bottom corners of the phone, I just put up with them, probably too late to do anything about it now though.

Friend, you have the right to claim a full refund or replacement in two years since you bought the phone, and you have ALL RIGHTS to get it fixed
What´s best to do:
Take your reciept and phone to your seller and describe the problems you've got, they will by force take it back and fix the problem totally for free!
If they refuse to fix the problem, then you should turn to the consumer advisors in your country as the right is by your side, but Im sure you wont have to
