Shrink Photo's down in E-mail - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I wanted to know if their is a setting to automatically shrink down the resolution of a photo when your send it in an e-mail. Under my e-mail page I go to menu>Pic/video options. I change the resolution there, but it does not seem to do anything. I know I can change the resolution in my camera settings, but I don't want to have to change the settings every time take a picture to send an e-mail. I am using outlook.

Hello guy`s i decide to open new topic because i have a problem and im sure im not the one who ask for the same.. so when im trying to set any picture on my contact all the pictures look very very ugly and bad quality i try few diferent things always the results are the same!
When i shoot a picture with the HTC Touch HD cam there have a options for Contact Photo O.K i did it and when i did it this way the pic look cool on the contact`s when this person calling me.. but i want to set another pictures that are from my Desktop PC what i can do?
I saw that the Original COntact Pictures shooted by the Phone Camera are exactly 240 x 320 Pixels so i resize the pictures i want and i make them the same format like the standart one for contacts the result is again very bad quality and ugly image.. the pictures i was trying to set are really with a amazing quality the question is why when i set them for Contact picture they are so ugly and bad quality?
I also try to set bigger picture than 240 x 320 pixels but Always the result is the same no matter how pixels picture i set no matter anything also what its very strange i conect the phone with my desktop pc and i copy one simple image that i shoot via my phone cam for contacts to see what im missing so after i extract this picture to my desktop PC i dalate it from the folder and i just clear the image without to do any re-size without to do anything just put back the same picture and again this heppand the picture was so so ugly with bad quality without to have any reason? I want someone who already have the same problem to give me some advice
How im able to set pictures of my contact from my desktop pc and they to look cool as they are really looking.. because it`s stupid if i only need to shoot every person plus this the Camera quality is not so AWSOME
Please help me with that all this seems very strange for me..
Sorry for my english but is not my mother language like you can see cheers
to have a good quality of your contact picture you must assign a name to the picture instead of assigning a picture to a name.
I explain ...
you go on File Explorer
Choose your picture
then assign it to a name
then you have a perfect quality picture when you give/ receive a call
if you do it choosing a name and assign a picture to this the quality of the picture is SH...
Thank you for the fast help but can you tell me how to do this i mean do i need some program? because i go to the picture that is stored in my mem card and when i hold on her or menu i didn`t see anything like assing to name? do i need some File Expoloer program? Thanks in advance
THANK YOU very much i saw what you mean and i did it already the pic`s look now AMAZING this is really a good TWEAK thank you again for this help!
I have the same problem but even after changing them one by one via > pics > add to contact, they change back to being poor quality!
I'm thinkng that Google Sync may have something to do with it... I have tried so many times to change this I'm almost resigned to putting up with the crap quality images now!
i ma using the s2v programm to view the pictures and set the contact pics. through s2v you can asign picture to ur contact. by the way ,i also use phonex 1.2 for wm6, in which the incoming call is fullscreen picture. it works perfectly. so what i suggest is you install a s2v
i created a jpg-picture for every contact on my pc (this way i have the perfect control over every single picture).
the image size has to be 268x268 pixels.
then i copied the pictures to the hd and assigned them via the peoples tab.
works perfectly in my opinion!
unless im missing something here.. the solution to your problem seems ridiculously easy..
I understand the picture quality of a contact on TF3D is poor when you set it as a contact?
to fix this, simply add that contact in the "People" tab on TF3D. once selected, click on Menu > Change Picture.
The picture doesn't have to be a special size or anything, TF3D automatically resizes it at optimum quality. No extra softwares etc. required either.
Hope this is what you guys were after.
PS - changing ur toTF3D background is a different story altogether...

Indeed that did work for me previously, however for some reason no matter how I change them now (wither via contacts or via photos) they default to the crap quality image. I'm convinced that everytime my phone syncs with google it just replaces the high quality with low quality. *shakes fist* lol

Why do you sync with Google? Use Outlook for syncing contacts, and the high quality photos will stay.
By, the way, there is a much simpler solution for your problem with photo quality.
Prepare photos on your PC (you can make them any size you want, but preffered size is around 260x260 pixels, I use anything between 250 and 500 pixels, and they look good). Also, try to crop photos to square format, since TF3D will do that automatically if they're not in 1:1 format.
Then make a folder and copy the photos to your device, go to Camera tab, open that folder via the Album and click on a photo. When the photo opens, make a short tap on the screen and a bottom menu will open. Click on the last right icon and select "Save to contact", then simply find the contact for that photo and click OK.
After that, just scroll to the next photo and repeat. When you sync with Outlook the full size photos will stay. Be warned, if you assign a photo to contact through Outlook, it will look ****ty on the phone.
Will give that a bash! thanks for the advice.

Picture caller ID blurry?

I got this device a week ago and loving it but has anyone else encountered this problem? I just noticed it and its rather annoying. The pic i was trying to use was taken with the camera and pic was not blurry when viewed in albums. I've also taking pic in lowest resolution but still came out blurry on caller id. Help anyone?
yes, I have this problem too, would love to see a solution ... ?
did you sync with activesync? I have a feeling activesync reencodes the jpeg.
So this is what happens - and this happens every time I put a new ROM or change phones
1. I always synch with Activesync, so the pictures are kept in my Outlook.
2. When I sync the pictures are blurry. If I put a new picture in Outlook, it still comes blurry on my phone.
3. If I put a new picture on my phone and then sync, then - all is fine - pictures are sharp and crisp and they stay like that until I put a new ROM and have to sync from scratch
There is something fishy in the way outlook stores these pictures may be.
does anyone have a fix for this???
That happened to me with the stock rom but when I switched to one with Manila 2.5, they're more clearer because it doesn't use the flipping notebook layout of the older style.
I would rather not flash a new rom to this phone... Is there a cab file out there that can fix this?
I had this problem on my Diamond
What you need to do is go to the people screen in touchflo and add the contact pictures from there, and it saves them as high res and will then sync them as normal
If you add your contact pictures from the outlook contacts program or from Outlook on your PC, then they are saved at a lower res
So I save the pictures to the memory card and then in the People tab, add the picture from there?
Blurry Fav Pics
Well as long as you add the pic to the contact from the People area of the touchFlo, you will be able to pic a section of the pic, (crop it), which then keeps it high res... I had the same problem too... I dont know if you have t-mobile, but it is kind of the same concept as the myfaves icons...
Yes, I think I read somewhere that if you save your contact pictures to msd card, it'll be higher res.
Here it is:
# Hi Res Contact Photos
Assign contact photos on your SD card directly to specific contacts for hi-res thumbnails. If you assign contact photos in Outlook and then sync, the contact photos on your phone will be low-res.
While we're talling about high-res pictures, here's another tip:
# Improve Photo Thumbnail Resolution in Photo Tab
Modify or tweak a photo (such as adjusting brightness) using a image editor directly on your HD (eg: Resco Photo Viewer) and save and overwrite the original. This makes the photo thumbnails on your Photo Touchflo 3D tab hi-res instead of low-res.
I have a t-mobile branded version of the tp2 and thanks for your responses. One more thing to add, when scrolling thru contacts in touch flo is it normal for pics to be blurry and take a few seconds to sharpen out?

It does not matter where the images are actually saved initially, it's just important to add them from TouchFlo and not from outlook/contacts
I don't sync with ActiveSync, but use Funambol instead - created a free account and used clients for Outlook and PPC.
Now I can sync from every location to internet and back - works great! (Also you can sync with many PCs while Activesync cannot even handle two PCs)
I am a newbie to this forum, how can I add the contact pics via touchflo. The pics are all blurry in my contact. They look sharp in album view

Yeah, I've been doing that and the pictures are a little bit blurry also and I thought that's what people are talking about. It must be because the People tab zooms on the picture a little.

I don't have that many contacts pictures... BUT when I scroll through pictures in Album, I have a similar effect. The next picture appear slightly blurry at first and then sharpens out in about 1 sec.
Think it's a Windows thing... experienced the same thing in Vista sometimes as well if I scroll BACK and the file size is big (scrolling forward give a sharp picture immediately).

Use the slider from the home screen to go to the People tab. This is really the "favourites", and will be blank unless you have already input some of your contacts.
Either add the contact, or go to the one you want to change, then press menu at the bottom, and a list comes up and "change picture is the bottom one.
Select your picture, move the highlighted box or zoom in/out to get the crop you want, then then save.
NOTE: if you go into the contacts, or into "all people" and change the picture, then it will be blurry. This must be done from the People tab from the home screen

TF3D - Contact Photo Questions

Anyone know what the proper size of contact photo's should be so they are not blurry as heck in the contacts tab?
I've tried large and small, all sorts of sizes, and the photos are always blurry for whatever reason.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah it's really annoying. Something to do with the syncing between PC and phone, I think.
Contact photos size:
150x150 works fine for me.
Hope that helps.
wow. searching through XDA archives, I discovered-
if you set the contact pictures THROUGH THE TF3d interface, the contact photos are sharp and crisp. if you do it through the WM interface, its blurry.
just tried it, and it works.
what a wack non-sense way of doing it. I had to set all my contacts as favorites in the TF3D tab, change picture, then remove as favorite.... and now they are all nice and crisp photos.
I was all excited when I started to read this but then I was dejected....I have 200+ contacts and you can only select one "favorite" at a time...not.going.to.happen.

Heres how I did it:
1.) make your caller pics 280x280x72dpi
2.) Go to TF3 "My Favorites" tab->All Contacts
3.) Pick a contact you want to add the pic to
4.) Menu->Edit Contact
5.) Click picture icon in top right of screen->Open Album
6.) Menu Albums->navigate to your 280x280x72dpi caller pic
7.) it may be slightly too big so it will ask you to crop it, just click OK
8.) Done->Done->Back
9.) Now erase the contact from Favorites and Re-Enter it, nice hi-res pic should be flippable
Here's a generic caller pic to work with

272x272 , thats the exact default picture size the device set for the contacts pictures.

I don't think that this is the right decision for contact picture integration,
because I have hundreds of contacts..
I can't manually editing every picture for every single contact(even if i use only 20 of over 500 numbers), and after that all these point after point that you described...
Am I right ?

I dont know about the facebook pictures, but this is the only way to assign a particular hi-res photo to a contact. Like you, I also have about 20 out of 200 contacts that I use pictures with, and anyway TF3D "My Favorites" only allows you 15 pics. It really doesn't take that long to assign photos to 15 contacts, but if you find a better way please post it here.
Any answer or registry tweak yet? I have the same problem!

[Q] Low res contact photos workaround - will Facebook for Sense muller it up?

As we all know the unresolved low resolution contact photos bug still exists in Android, even after 2+ years. By this I mean if you sync your contacts with Google then you only get the 75x75 pixel contact photo show up when you call/get called by someone, all pixellated and horrible.
I found a workaround for this somewhere on XDA which works - create a new "phone" contact with a nice high res pic for each person, and then link it to your Google contact, selecting the high res picture as the default.
Unfortunately I didn't set up my Facebook for Sense yet. If I do this now, will the phone overwrite my preference for the "phone contact" picture with a Facebook picture? Meaning I would have to go through each contact again, selecting the "phone contact" pic? I don't have time to go through all these again, I'd rather not bother with Facebook for Sense...
I don't know for sure, since my Facebook for Sense is all setup, but I'm pretty sure it will overwrite it when you sync with it, yes. I changed some of my contact pictures from their Facebook pics to some other ones, but next time I sync'd Facebook it went back to the Facebook pics.
I got my DHD for Xmas, and the snafu with the photos is unbelievable.
Not only my phone WON'T remember that I have chosen a mobile/google photo for a contact, and instead reverts to fB, but also the fact that it uses a low-res pic is not simply a bug - it's idiotic. The funny thing is that for a while, at least for a specific contact, it kept a nice high-res photo...
Argh!

[Q] JB High-resolution contact photos?

I read that one of the features of JB is high-resolution contact photos. I'm on JB now but I don't seem to be able to make high-resolution contact photos appear on the People app. I tried changing the contact photos on Google through a computer but after sync the photos still appear blurry in the People app of my GNex. I know I can get a high resolution photo to appear by changing them directly on my phone by selecting an image in Gallery, but this trick has been around since ICS. So what does 'high-resolution contact photos' mean in JB?
From what I have experienced, the first time you set up your contact photos from the contacts app (i.e. going into the contact --> edit --> set picture from gallery) google will keep that high resolution picture backed up in it's database. So let's say you set up your contacts, wipe your data, and load a new or stock rom. Then your contact app will repopulate the original high-res images you set in the first place, not the 256x256 resolution or whatever that they used to keep backed up before JB.
