APP2SD - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why APP2SD don't work on my desire rooted and alpharev stock rom?
Any one can explain that? Thanks
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Which A2SD? The stock A2SD in the stock ROM will only allow moving of apps if enabled by the developer. If you want ALL A2SD then you'll need a custom ROM

Yes what kind of a2sd(froyo native or custom) and what have you tried to make it work?

I try APP2SD, but it only moves some apps. The same way with unrooted. :-( I think that I'm loosing something

I'll try a2sdfroyo from market, but need busybox, but what I found on the market says it is not compatible with the desire. Damm
Where I can find busybox, that works on desire?

Have you changed your system partitions? Revert back to Sense partitions. N1's or Oxygens are to small to get Sense to fit in there
Sent from my LeeDroided Desire HD
Yes i revert to stock partitions.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
A bit redundant but you need bravo stock layout and not bravo sense.
Yes i reverted to stock (250 mb /system) .. Cleared cache. But same. Tried for 3 times.

When you flash an aosp rom with stock partitions, how much of free space does it give you after a fresh install without installing any apps?
( go with me on this). You might have bad blocks on system partition and sense rom might not be able to overlap them while writting.
Sent from my LeeDroided Desire HD
That sounds logical. Is there any other (more reliable) way to find out if system partition was damaged?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It surely is from adb. But cannot recall ob how. Maybe a quick search in forum. Sorry that i cannot help more but im on mobile app.

Backup d2ext rom

Sorry noob question
I have got miui with d2ext can i do a nandroid backup
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
No, the Interpol did not allowed it
But I cannot see why not. I did it, too.
Why shouldn't you be able to do it?
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
Use RMD recovery.

Data2sd roms

Hi. I'm looking for Data2Sd roms with sense 3.x for Desire.
I've looked on the internet but found sense 2.x everywhere.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Runnymede AIO V2.2 Xd2sdX for this you need to be s-off and using CM7/r2
Alex-V1.7 GB Sense HD ODEXED A2SD/DATA2EXT/Sense2.1+3.0+Mod/bravia Same again you need to be s-off
Droidzone has a 2.1 sense rom that work with stock Hboot.
Is there any way I can s-off except via linux?
What are the restrictions with s-on?
I'm still new to android world so please bear with me.

See my sig I used http://revolutionary.io/ 40 seconds to s-off, make sure htc sync isn't installed and you will need htc fastboot drivers http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
S-off gives you full root, so you can change Hboot to say cm7/r2 http://alpharev.nl/ witch give you more data, but allowing you to install data2ext and keeping dalvik cache on nand memory.
Just make sure you read into it.......you can brick your phone if you mess up.

Advise for a newbie...

I am having hboot 1.02. and pvt1., running 2.3.3(official update)..so what I need is
A) should I use revolutionary or unrevoked?
B) which is a better n easy method for partitioning my SD card? Gparted or through app?
C) I am thinking of clock work mod as I'm still new...is there any better recovery?
THANKS IN ADVANCE...:

A. I used revolutionary. It work like a charm.
B. The easy way to do it is from recovery menu [advanced>partitioning SD]. Simple
C. This is one I am using now

1. Revolutionary only, unrevoked will not work with your hboot.
2. Use 4ext recovery it's better than clockworkmod. Revolutionary will flash CWM but after rooting and rebooting just install 4ect recovery updater app from Play Store and flash recovery through it.
3. With 4ext partitioning is better, partitions are better aligned then in CWM, and you can choose which type on ext partition you want (ext3 or ext4).
But be careful, stock kernel doesn't support ext4 so you will need to flash some other kern if you want it.

+1...This is the proper way to answer this Ques. 4ext is the best recovery i've used and its so much easier to handle ROM management and has very powerful partitioning tools and some advanced features not found in other recoveries.
And for S-off, revolutionary will do the trick.
As stated: revolutionary is the easiest/fastest way to S-off
Can u plz give me guides for using 4ext recovery and partitioning by that recovery... Thanks for advise...

When you enter recovery there's an option 'tools' and inside 'partition sd'. After pressing yoi will be promped for sizes and types of partitions, choose fat32 for the first, and ext4 for first sd-ext (1-1.5GB not more) without second sd-ext and no swap.

Jst one more Que..say I made partitioning in 4ext recovery and I decided to move to CWM recovery. My SD ext partition still remain on SD card???

It will, but you don't want to move back to cwm..if it's because of ROM manager, ditch that, it will break your phone.

4ext has better options and ROM manager sucks.

4Ext once bricked my Desire
I got one lesson: don't even dare touch the recovery's configuration files in .4ext folder.

The brick 4ext gives you is a VERY recoverable brick, nothing serious......and you can always flash/change recovery from fastboot.....

ICS Sandvoid on Desire - FC / Wait / Kill
I flashed my HTC desire (Stock HBOOT) with ICS (Sandvoid) 0.15.
Installed smoothly. Then I ran a2sd install and answered y/y/y (wanted to see how far I can take it
Immediate observation was that when I run some app (facebook/youtube and even some system apps) it used to hand throw up a screen that app is not responding and option to WAIT / KILL etc
If I wait usually the app would come back but it was nagging too much.
My question is if I get a class 6+ SD card would this issue disappear?
By the way, it was beautiful to see ICS on my desire and I want to go there again.
For now shifted to Oxygen 2.3.2 with HBOOT oxygen r2. wondering if it also has an option to move data 2 ext inbuilt? tried a2sd install did not work (I know its inbuilt etc etc)

You need app2sd which can move your application and data to the partition or you use INT2SD which mounts the 1GB partition as internal memory where all the installations will be made. But therefore you need another ROM which supports that.

On factory build that's rooted the only thing that can be used is link2sd app from the market because it's kernel doesn't have init.d support. Flash some other kernel and some a2sd method (for your case with factory build I suggest darktremor a2sd), or choose some custom rom with built-in a2sd script.

i went to search for kernals and darktrmor. i found this http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=158809660835039 but it says installing DT on stock rm is not supported for 2.3.3., and also not for EXT4 partitions...i have stock version and GB.. still can i install it anyway or i have to install a custom ROM??

Flash some other kernel from recovery, any of Droidzone for example, and you should get ext4 support.
After that flash boot.img that I attached you via fastboot (I modded for init.d support while I was using factory firmware. and then without reboot go to recovery and flash Darktremor a2sd script. After that reboot the phone and if it boots follow Darktremor instruction for a2sd that you found.
