[Q] My ringtones and Stock 2.2 launcher - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Before rooting, I could get all my audio files to show up whenever I wanted to use on for a contact's ringtone, or a notification or anything. Now, I can't see them. Am I supposed to put them somewhere so the phone will detect them?
Also, I'm wondering why the ROMS for 2.2 Froyo on the mt3gs have ADW launcher on them. Is that because we don't have an official T-Mobile or HTC Sense launcher yet? Or am I totally off with what I'm saying?

You can still select your songs as your ringtone. You just need to go to you music app and select it as such through there. I personally use ringdroid and that makes my song clip a ringtone to be bundled with the ringtones available.
and yes, there isnt a sense launcher 2.2 yet so therefore it can not be included in a mts rom. There are other home launchers you can use however.

I just tried to go to individual songs and it only allows me to set them as the the phone's ringtone but not as contact specific ringtones.
I'm on the cyanogen ROM, if it matters.

Go to said Contact, Press menu, options, ringtone.

It doesn't show MY tracks that I put on the SD card. It only gives me the default track as an option.
Could this be a bug in the ROM?? I gotta be able to use my tracks for different people. Where should I put the tracks?

Oh, ok. You want each contact to have a diff ringtone. Download ringdroid from market and make your ringtones there. The newly made ringtones will appear with the default.

Ok, cool, I'll try that. I just found it so weird that it was so simple on 2.1 but now with the 2.2 ROM it doesn't seem to work. I'll try ringdroid. I was thinking it might work if I copied the ringers I have into the folder on the phone that holds all the stock ringers. Thought maybe that might work. I like to try to run things with as few apps as possible to help the battery.
Thanks!

That'd definitely work. Push them to system/media/audio/ringtones

Hmm, weird...
Astro won't let me paste or move to the phone. Any ideas?

Use adb to put the files there. None of the root explorer apps ever worked for me.

Any idea where I can get commands to do that kind of copying? I have no idea how to use adb other than the instructions in rooting.

[Q] Koni's Elite Series 3 - Cant install HTC Music and HTC Music Widget

I just recently installed Koni's Elite Series III. It is my favorite ROM so far. One thing that i cant get to work is the HTC Music, and htc Music Widget apps. He has them as an optional download on the ROM page. I downloaded them, put them on the root of my sd card, and tried to flash the .zip file through clockwork mod. it says Installing update...
Installing HTC Music and Widget...
Done.
Install from sdcard complete.
When I boot back up nothing has changed and the apps are not there. so i tried extracting the apk's to the sdcard's extracted folder and installing them from there and it says application not installed. I even tried to move the apk's to the system\apps folder and install them from there but still no dice.
I tried to figure out how to post this on the rom page but I guess xda doesnt want people asking questions on dev posts haha. hopefully someone can help! Thanks!

The first thing I would do, is check your permissions on both the Music apk, and the music widget apk. Navigate to /system/app, find the htcMusic.apk, and long press it, then select 'permissions'. Make sure that it's set the same as the other system apps. Most likely you just need to be sure that User: read and write are both checked. Once the permissions are set for both of them, reboot the phone and see if that worked.
sweet!
Worked like a charm! I didnt even think about that. Thanks a bunch!!

Ya seriously! so would you know by chance how to get the htc music 2x3 widget? I thought thats what the .com.htc.musicwidget.apk was, but strangely enough that is the standard android 1x3 music widget.... I was hoping to get the htc one because its twice the size and i can control the song without going into the app, plus when the screen is locked it has controls on top of the lock bar

ya, i pulled it from another rom (stock turbo) that has the 2x3 widget. in fact while i was on that rom earlier today (to get this, and the flashlight app) i renamed the com.htc.musicwidget.apk to com.htc.music.widget.blk and the widget disapeared. so.... the htc.musicwidget.apk must be the right file, but why would it only give me the option for the regular android 1x3 widget..... and ya the permissions are the same as all the other widgets. user has read and write and everyone else has just read. I just renamed the htc.musicwidget.apk on my phone on koni's to htc.musicwidget.apk and the android music 1x3 is still there. so i dont think that they are connected, the apk probably just isnt installing right

I would re download your widget, and try again. Are you sure the file didn't get corrupted? (Size is the same as it is in the rom you took it from) The 1x3 widget you're describing sounds like its the widget for the stock android music player, which I also believe is included in konis elite. That would tell me that something isnt right with your com.htc. MusicWidget.apk. did you name it right? (Capitals matter, it can't be all lower case. The m and the w both need tone capitals. (Just throwing stuff out there at this point)

Ya I pulled it streight from the other rom, and it does have to capital M and W. Well ill just keep trying stuff haha. Thanks a ton for your help! If you come up with any other ideas just post them

[Q] Changing notification tones on EI22

I can't seem to use custom/nonstock ringtones for notifications on ei22. Before on ec05 I had a folder on my sdcard that had them all and it worked but no go now. Theb only thing I can think of is that ei22 doesn't support mp3 tones because I even tried placing it in the notification folder within the system.
I did search but every thread is to disable it lol
Works fine for me. I click notification sound in settings>sound and all my ringtones pop up in the list and work fine. Maybe you need the sounds in the ringtone folder.

So for some reason I can use MP3 for ringtones but not notifications. In order for me to use custom notifications they need to be OGG, ei22 doesn't like MP3's for some odd reason
By the way I am using CleanGB rom so maybe its that if everyone else is able to use MP3's.
EDIT:
Spoke to soon, I can now see it under notifications but it doesn't play it

I'm on Legendary and have no problem using MP3s in my ringtone folder. Try converting it to M4A file. Maybe there is a file you are missing since CleanGB has a lot of bloat removed.
As wack as this may sound, if you truly can't find a resolution...ringdroid supports mp3 notifications.

Thanks, I was not able to find an option to change it manually but I downloaded the Zedge app and it allowed me to choose a notification that it had (same one I had).

Ringtones/Notifications!!! NIce N easy way to get them without root or anything

ok so today i was playing with my phone and you know im a type a person who like to put lots of ringtones from other phones into mine so all this time i been pushing all the audio files from different roms into my phone(adb push .../system/media/audio/ringtones ).. DONT NEEED TO DO THIS NOMORE SINCE OUR PHONE HAS AN EASY WAY TO PUT WHATEVER AUDIO FILES NOW INTO THE INTERNAL SDCARD..
SO IF YOU WANT RINTONES ON YOUR PHONE DO THE FOLLOWING!!!
1.CONNECT YOUR PHONE TO PC (ROOT IS NOT NEEDED!!! NOR CUSTOM ROM OR KERNEL)
2. GO TO YOUR INTERNAL SD AND YOU ARE GOING TO SEE 2 FOLDERS INSIDE 1 FOLDER NAMED "RINGTONES AND THE OTHER ONE NOTIFICATIONS", ) JUST DROP WHATEVER FILES YOU WANT IN THOSE FOLDERS ANY AUDIO FILES WILL SHOW ON YOUR RINGTONES AND NOTIFICATIONS NOW!! WOW HOW NICE IS THAT..
I've been able to do this since owning a G1. Files can also go in a folder called 'media' (which still works up to this day on the S3) with subfolders titled 'ringtones' 'notifications' 'alarms' and 'ui'.

This is nothing new. Android has always had this ability. This could be helpful to people that are new to android though.

+1 for Zedge. Also search around XDA for ringtones ... you can find a lot of phone dumps that users have posted for download.

Even if you not rooted you can download cm9 and extract ring tones from media folder, but you can also find most if not all of them from zedge, btw maybe the op cane from the iPhone which is a pain to get ring tones, bonus tip stock player will let you choose any song as ringtones, if you want to trim it to an specific part get ringtone maker from the play store

Task650 Customization??

Is it possible to customize the phone app in Task650? I'd like the stock phone app from 4.1.1 where the display is
larger and the name of the caller is also large.
Is this possible?? Otherwise, I like the Task650 ROM (finally loaded).
Thanks

I am not actually responding to this question but to the question you posted about using an mp3 file as your ringtone. I have one that I created years ago with an app called Ringroid and it let me capture part of an mp3 and set it as a ringtone. After every complete wipe, I drag that file from my external sd to my internal sd card and I can select it as my ringtone (it does not have the same extension, nor does it appear on the list as the other ringtones). I can, however, using ES file explorer select it as my ringtone (it lists all of my music, including the clip I use as my ringtone).
Thanks. I did that and it worked. Now on to the dialer issue.
Suggestions?

Stock 4.1.1 dialer will be touchwiz, which won't work on aokp roms, at least without some heavy framework modding. Even then I'm not sure it's possible. Best to look at dialer alternatives in the play store if you don't like the one in Task's rom.
Thank you. I've taken a look and nothing really jumps out.

Forgive me if i dont understand right but you say the stock ringtones and notifications are there in system/media? If not what is there? Do you have a noise happening when notification or call comes in? If so just change them by either using music player and selcting use as ringtone, etc or just add your own files with sounds or music to the same place in system/media where the stock ones are. Make sure they are the right file type. Then you might see the option under settings tab. If not then save stock sounds to a folder on your sd card and the ones left that you just put there should now be your new sounds. Let me know if this worked please. Good luck

How many ogg files are showing under system/media/? Just one? If so adding another may give you an option in settings. If not try nova launcher and go to settings again and options may show. If not look for app that converts files to other kinds of files and the oggs might be able to be turned to another format that makes it show up in music player. If not try flashing newer nightly update and see if it fixes itself in the next build. Let me know
