[Q] telus desire 2.2 update - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have just bought a Telus desire with 2.1 and i would like to upgrade it to 2.2. If i follow the unrevoked method to root will I recieve the stock 2.2 OTA update from htc? if not will I need to flash any ROM in order to receive the update?
The amount of information available is just overwhelming, Can someone point me in the right direction please.

Moved to Q&A. Please don't post question threads in Development.

If you're willing to wait a couple of weeks, the official upgrade to 2.2 will be coming straight from Telus. They are announcing sometime in October (I haven't seen an exact date mind you).
If you'd like, you can verify this on mobilesyrup, or straight from the Telus website.

Mid october and still Nothing. That has to be a big joke.
Does anyone have some news? Gingerbread is for the end of the year...and we still have 2.1. Pisses me off tabarnak.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Gingerbread is unlikely to be (officially) on the Desire

just like the Hero i bought from Telus.... if it wasnt rooted it would be on 1.5
Telus doesnt like to give anything for free

Even if I'm with Fido... I depend on Telus's update. Rooting is an option... but for those who want to keep their warranty...it's not.
What's the point to release such great phones if you dont have balls to offer the last updates in time ? If they cant handle it...then they should stay with their old dumbphones.
I mean... dont get me wrong.... All they have to do is to take the Official Froyo from HTC ...add their crappy apps....an push it over the air. Many developpers on XDA could do that within 1 week... but a big compagny like telus cant? f off.

Htc Hero Generic Rom U.K?

Hello, ive had a search on the forums but i couldnt anything on this. Is there a standard Generic Rom available for the Hero that will allow me to update over the air when Android updates are available?
I currently own the T-Mobile U.K version which is on Android 1.5 but i had my phone unlocked so its on Vodafone so dont really care for the T-Mobile updates. I just want the Android updates when they become available without having to wait for T-Mobile to release their own.
My Hero is rooted.
Thanks

HTC and T-Mobile/Orange both still only have 1.5. The best way to have an official 2.1 ROM is by downloading it when it's released then copying via PC and flashing.
HTC official ROMs can only be downloaded from their site if u have a HTC branded handset (ie No Orange / T-Mo / 3 branding). It's worth waiting til it's released (some time in March) then someone can upload a HTC rom which has been defanged and rooted. I hope this helps.

Htc desire firmware update

Just been to the HTC website and noticed a new OTA firmware update on there.
I don't have my phone yet so can anybody confirm what improvements this offers?
Cheers
great hopefully it will solve all or at least couple of issues the users had so far
Did a manual update and it said I had the latest ...
sadly HTC rarely do change logs.
Although it must be very minor as it's only going from 1.15.405.3 to 1.15.405.4
Where on the HTC Site? I cannot see it?
I wonder if this is a quick response to the rooting of the Desire?
I hope not!
I'm on 1.15.110.10 do I have to wait for T-Mobile to update the software or will it be pushed asap?

should be pushed ASAP.
go into status and try a manual check. bear in mind that if it's done like the other devices when they get ota'd, it may be done over several days. so you may not get it till after the weekend.
Yours should go to 1.15.110.11
This 1.15.405.4 is the ROM that reviewers such as Tracy and Matt had right? I think that was the number in the video.
Just have to wait to see how long it takes T-mobile to push this out now.
Oh, and orange devices would go to 1.15.61.10 btw.
i got it via OTA earlier today but as you all know, NO INFO whatsoever! looks no different however hopefully will improve the shocking battery life......
YEAH RIGHT!
It mentions it on this page:
http://www.htc.com/europe/support.aspx
Doesn't say what's changed though...
Have not noticed any changes myself, most probably all back-end stuff.
What's all this about 405 builds for HTC and 110 builds for tmob and 60 builds for Orange?
Makes no sense.
My tmob phone notified me of an update today, but at the time I had to cancel it as I was busy. Now when I go to manually check for update it says I'm already up to date.
So where did it go?
First option on the "About" tab manual update.
Will I need to have the T-Mobile sim in for it to find the update then?
I have the 1.15.110.10 on my t-mobile and it wont manually update for me at all
Is the Desire going to be like some other tmobile phones and you cant get the official updates?
I have looked on the HTC support site and while it does say there is an update, can't it be downloaded via the site too?

Build number has always been difference between generic and branded HTC devices.
I've don my update, can't see any real change though. Maybe a miner update.
Things are much smooth on my Desire then my Nexus one.
Just checked for any updates on my Desire and it said there was one available, it downloaded no problem it changed my software number to 1.15.405.4 sorry I have no idea what it was before it was changed.

you need to wait for t-mobile version of the update unless you unlock your device

so if I unlock the device, HTC will automatically be able to know that and it will update with the generic update?

02 UK Deisre abroad will it update to 2.2

as per subject
My Desire was bought from O2, so has it's firmware.
I'm moving abroad next month, will I still get an update to 2.2 ?
I won't be using O2.. will that stop me ?
Would I be better flashing it with a generic rom ?
Thanks

It's about choice...
Why you need flashing? if you Desire daily usage for Phone, SMS, Chat and Check Email and little bit Browse the net.. I think wait until official release for Desire much better than Rooted/Flashing your phone
Thanks for the reply.
I'd prefer not to flash or root it if I can help it.
The question really is will a UK O2 Desire automatically upgrade to 2.2 if used in New Zealand, with Vodafone ?
Thanks
Probably not. My understanding is that receiving updates is dependent on your current version. I'm on Meteor in Ireland, for example, but I won't receive any specific Meteor updates, because I have the generic HTC firmware.
So if you're on a kiwi network, with the O2 software, you'll get neither the HTC update nor any update your new network rolls out.
So either debrand now and get the HTC update whenever it's released, or wait until it comes out and flash the 2.2 rom directly.
One other thing you could do is take it to Vodafone in New Zealand and ask them to flash their own software on it. Since you're a new customer, they'll most likely oblige.
But that's if they even stock the Desire, btw. If they don't you'll have to do it yourself.
One thing to keep in mind re:carrier specific firmwares is that it may take an awfully long time for upgrades to trickle down. You could be looking at an additional month or more between HTC releasing it and your carrier releasing it.
And even when they do, they might disable certain features (wi-fi tethering, for example, isn't too popular with mobile operators)
Thanks
that is what I'd thought..
I suppose the only other thing would be if O2 released it for download, then I could manually install it !!
Are there still issues with wifi and the generic rom ?
Yeah, that's another way. Bookmark this link:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/
The only issues were with people who people who debranded their phone and flashed to the generic rom. But for anybody else, there's no issues whatsoever.
Thanks
If I change the ROM is there any risk ? I'm not bothered about root, but would like to have the option of 2.2 when I'm not in the UK.
can you point me to a firmware flashing guide ?
Thanks again.
Well this is the latest (generic) rom update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684259
Very easy to install. Just download the .exe to your PC, and open it while your phone is plugged in. The installer will walk you through.
I don't know if it's that simple for branded phones though. You might have to debrand first... I honestly couldn't say. You might ask in that thread and list your FW number. Maybe somebody else will know.
You're sure it's a branded phone, yes? There's no .405 in the version number?
My firmware is : 1.20.207.3 CL171460 release-keys
I'll ask in the other forum.
Thanks

[Q] Brought DHD Overseas, Help!

Hey guys,
Just been looking around these forums lately and you all seem like the intelligent bunch so i was hoping you might be able to help me out here.
I Recentlly brought a desire HD from an online website (mobicity) and its a great phone/device, but it has come from singapore. its unlocked/unbranded but it feels like its not an australian/WWE stock rom. I am completely new to the world of android with this phone being my entry class but im pretty clued on when it comes to tech stuff (I've flashed other devices before, PSP's, iPhones) and after a bit of research, seems getting a "stock rom" is the way to go but i dont want a carrier branded one (telstra, 3, virgin) as im with a carrier that doesnt sell the HTC DHD, or I dont want a custom rom, I just want it to be a normal unbranded HTC thats as close to where im from.
When I select the languages I only get 3 choices - English[HK] and 2 chinese languages (not sure what they are!)
If it helps here is my software info:
Model: A9191
Android Version: 2.2.1
Baseband: 12.28g.60.140fU_26.05.05.27_M3
Build: 1.84.832.2 CL333804 Release-keys
Software number: 1.84.832.2
Browser Version: Webkit 3.1
Any help/Tips/Advice would be awesome guys!
thanks in advance!
Somewhere around here is an RUU for Oz and / or WWE version which should help you out.
Better still, go forth and "Root" *groan* about in the development forum.
I really really should apologise for that pun but I not going to...
Just a heads up, I've recently heard that the folks in Germany are getting their Gingerbread update, so I suspect the rest of the world is gonna get his pretty shortly. If you don't feel like waiting around then go on to the dev. section and check out the stock rom final build 2.36 that was recently released. You can flash it with out root access.
Good luck mate!
Software number: 1.84.832.2.. The 832 does indeed refer to a HK based ROM. Look for 405 in the software number for a stock WWE ROM. Example is 2.36.405.8 which I am currently running. (Gingerbread)
There's a few WWE ROMs here:

Hi Guys,
thanks for your help so far but when i Try to install another rom (older or newer) i get Customer error 131
with a bit of reseach seems i may have to get a "gold card"
so its more money for a micro SD unless theres a way around this error?
Also just been informed by my phone suppliers that stock roms are covered by warranty so im more relaxed about flashing now
thanks again

IMO, your supplier mean the stock rom for current device is refer to HK stock rom only. If your are from HK rom, then its should be HK rom only. If you flash others wwe stock rom, its mean you avoid your warranty. My meaning is, when you root your phone, you already avoid the warranty. In order to choose others stock rom to flash in your HK phone, you required your phone to be root first..
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I got mine imported from the UK (through clove.co.uk)
I'm with virgin mobile and have just kept the stock ROM it came with.
Just thought you should know there's some other people like you on here
hey guys
Well its still not working
Everytime ive tried to load up the WWE rom I get customer ID error 131
just curious, does it have to be a newer verison or can it be an older one too?
After speaking with the guy that sold me the phone he suggested the gold card method which didnt work either...am i stuck with this HK-rom?
[SOVLED]
So I Finally did it!
heres what i did:
Followed the Guide found here
THEN discovered my device was branded so i need to make a goldcard on MMC2 (been using mmc0 Prior)
Then Flashed via recovery mode to 1.32
then upgraded to 1.72!
the only think that worried me is that when i was 1.32 i couldnt do an update via the phone...was that a bug that was fixed later on?
just happy to have stock f/w on now, the phone seems quicker too!
thanks guys, for the help, and hope this will help anyone else with the same issue
if you went to all that trouble to flash your device, why don't you give customs a try?
I personally use CM7 with a Android Phone 7 skin.
If speed is your thing, the CM7 has overclocking options on it to make it more zippy, though its fast still plenty faster then with the stock roms. I've heard Android Revolution is even faster, but its running 2.2
Worse comes to worse, you can always restore back to your current rom.
lol due to warranty limitations i may jsut stick with the unbranded roms for now, or if my carrier (iiNet via optus) release a branded F/W ill go with that playing it safe works fine for me till i work out wha tthis phone can do for now

Ee UK variant. Software update.

Ee in the UK is notorious for not giving software updates. And this is concerning especially with Android L on its way soon! Anyone have any experience dealing with them at all?
They will update the phone, they have to. Not sure where these worries come from. Or s-off and convert the phone to unbranded wwe and have the fastest updates.....
Kinda useless to speculate on this topic, they must update but when they do .... that's something you have to wait for. Patience is the word you need i guess
