I apologize in advance if this is a noob question, but I can't seem to figure it out and I've checked all the threads in the forum and a few on google.
Ok so, I recently installed the KingxKernel # 2 on my Evo running CM6.
Now I currently have setCPU installed and it works great, but for some reason, it won't accept that I can overclock the processor and it only allows a max of 998 Mhz. I know that my kernel/processor is capable of overclocking because I downloaded the Overclock widget and installed it and was able to clock to 1.26. (I only OC'd to 1.15 though because of some things i'd heard) So i guess I'm really just asking if anyone knows why I wouldn't be able to overclock with setCPU. If you think it's just a kernel issue, feel free to recommend a better kernel for overclocking, undervolting, etc. Thanks in advance.
u need to click on autodetect speeds. also, this should be in the q&a section

Thank you so much! I apologize for not posting this in the right section.
Galaxy S II running Lite'ning ROM v2.2
I've got the same issue with mine, except from that the Auto Detect won't fix it. I've got a Galaxy S II with Lite'ning ROM v2.2, and i want to overclock my phone from 1.2GHz to 1.4GHz. But for some reason, the max value of the overclock cannot exceed the original 1.2GHz. I'm also using SetCPU.

You're not using CF Kernel, are you? In order to OC you need some other Kernel
i use cf-kernel and have same problem, when i use autodetect i can even only clock max 500mhz :s

Alright, so set cpu has been updated and it says it has a beta setting for the evo. I was reading through the comments and one of them says that setcpu is only for controlling the cpu speed from standard 1ghz and lowering. If i wanted to overclock to 1.2(I think that's the highest i've seen around) I would have to get a custom rom. So.. i have baked snack v7... is that what they are considering a custom rom? or do i have to have a supported overlcock custom rom. then i use set cpu to control the cpu speed.
?
hah thank you.

You can only overclock the CPU by using a custom kernel, and at this point in time you lose camera

Is anyone having luck with overclocking? I've tried various kernels and am now running whatever is included in Calkulin's ROM, but anytime I go over 1.036 GHz with Overclock Widget, the phone locks up...anyone able to run the 1.26ish GHz setting? What kernel?
Sent from my Evo...
Not all phones can handle being overclocked to higher settings than their processors were made for
For instance I am good all the up to 1190mhz but any higher and I get a restart
1.152 is max for me.

the only kernel that has got me up to 1.226 is Snap 8.1 on CM^. I was able to run 1.226 stable where as with any other kernel/rom combo, I was only able to get mine up to 1.9.
So there is some truth to the every Evo is different theory when it comes to overclocking capability, but there are also some variable in the kernels such as voltages that can allow for higher clock speeds
nertch 4.18 @ 1.228
Thanks...that's kind of what I was hoping/expecting to hear. I didn't think they would set it up to go to 1.26ish if someone hadn't been able to get it to work.
mine will only goto about 1.2 before a restart so give it a shot and see how it goes haha.
I am using fresh 3.2 rom and netarchy 4.1.8 bfs kernel running @ 1.267
So i was looking around on App Brain for some rooted apps, and came across this. Figured i would give it a shot, figured no one had tried it yet on a dinc 2. And what do you know it works, Set my clock to 1.024, of course you have to be rooted to try this app. but since there aren't a lot of kernels out there, and the one that is doesnt work well with my rom, figure i will give this a shot for a while.
Anybody try this app? Confirm this works, seems to work for me.
I have used it, but it doesn't overclock because the stock cpu clock is 1GHz, or 1024MHz. I guess it could be used to underclocking, but thats about it.
Hmm seems to run a bit better...but who knows...at least its something until i can get a working kernel.
Any little bit helps
SetCPU overclocks right? I've got mine set at 1.305 MHz, but it has no modified Kernel, so I wanted to be sure that I'm really getting 1.3 GHz out of my processor

Download a system info app. Will tell you your CPU speed
sent from an under rated phone
I use it... I love it.
It even lets you set I/O scheduler.
Also, if your phone does an "unclean" reboot, the app wont apply your setting on next boot.
Setcpu will not overclock unless you have an oc kernal. You must be using a non-stock one.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
This app will give you your CPU stats so you can test, so you can underclock or overclock. Depending on what you want.
I have htc wildfire s ...i hav rooted ...i want to overclock it 806 mhz.....pls tell me the procedure to overclock..
I am using htc wildfire rom ..pls help
First you need a kernel that supports overclocking.
If you using a stock Rom then look for the kernel that matches your Android version eg. 2.3.3 or 2.3.5 you will find them in the development section posted by Jikantaru
If you install a custom Rom then it will most likely have an overclockable kernel baked in.
To change clock settings I recommend 'no frills CPU' search it in the market or you could use set CPU.
Once you install one of the above apps then change the min and max sliders to the desired frequency.
if we over clock it much does it effect the speed or hardware of the phone?
Your phone may hang.
There is SetCPU for XDA members:

You will definitely get better performance and it shouldn't cause you any problems.
Use no frills CPU I find its better than set CPU, when restarting your phone set CPU doesn't keep your overclock settings even though its set on boot.
As for the govonor settings I would choose smartass2 and noop for the scheduler.
I would keep the minimum frequency on 245MHz it can go lower but it could cause some issues (lag and slow unlocking and waking)
Note: not all cpu's are capable of running at the same speed, I'm lucky mine can run at 806MHz but some people have issues.
If you notice any problems like freezing etc, then drop the speed to a lower frequency until you find the sweet spot for your CPU.
I had mine at 806 MHz with no problems

so it wont cause hardware problems only lagging and other stuff

Should be fine mate.
But remember if in the very unlikely event something does go wrong I wont be held responsible.
youll have to need an overclock kernel for that. (and a rom which supports one)
go for dust kernel or cake kernel! These two are well known for high end kernels!
The new JMT JB 2.1 is overclocked to 1.8 ghz does anyone know how to downclock it back to stock
call me paranoid but my phone heats up a lot in 3d games dont want to fry my phone
for the life of me I cant find where to change it like in previous JMT roms...

I tried kernel tuner weird its telling me its not overclocked
the OP is telling me that JMT2.1 is overclocked to 1.8 ghz
I am confused

Since it's OC'd by default that is what any kernel tuner will show. That it's not OC'd. Just reduce it to what you want under CPU settings. Or do you mean kernel tuner is showing max at 1.2 (or whatever it is), and not 1.8?
thanks for your help... I've actually changed the mod back to v1.1
was having problems when on data would freeze... back to the stock kernel
I appreciate your input m8
