I just got a G2 leaving behind a G1 which had zero gaming capability at all. I'm looking for some cool HD games. I tried Gameloft but it keeps saying that nothing is compatible with my Desire Z. Anybody help please!
im playing nfs: shift, psx4droid, exzeus, blow up, etc
running perfect
Fruit Ninja, Mini Squadron, and Angry Birds are good games and the first two support Open Feint which is a friends list and achievement system similar to xbox live that supports multiplayer across Android and iOS

People were saying the GPU in the GN was just terrible but its not that bad and should last me the year or two i will have it. However if i get bored ill overclock and throw chainfire 3d on it till what ever the latest and greatest is out.
Here are the Benchmarks
Games played are HD
Riptide
9mm
Shadow Gun
Samurai II Vengeance
Asphalt 6 Adrenaline
Need for speed shift
n64oid test and more games
Note: i got mine imported(its actually pre released) running on T-Mobile dumped the forgotten Mytouch 3g fender 1.2 version for it. Coming from that and the g1 this is the snappiest device i have ever owned running android. I didn't care all about GPU because ill be doing most of my mobile gaming on the PSV anyways.
It's a pain that new games like Riptide (or any Gameloft title) don't work, ...but it plays N64 and PS1 games perfectly.
It'll be interesting to see SG2 benchmarks when the official ICS update is out.

The Galaxy Nexus has to run most apps in compatibility mode because they do not support ICS yet but, it has given me a great experience so far. Somethings telling me the sgs2 is going to slow down a bit when it gets the upgrade not because of hardware because of the new touchwiz coming with it.
We will have to see!

its actually a pre release model Ive had since the 16 got back today
I got an upgrade available to get a play for $50, and I'm wondering how great they are. I've been getting annoyed at the touch screen controls for gaming, and want a controller finally.
However, I'm worried as to how smooth, responsive, and great the graphics are with psx emulators or games like GTA3.
My Atrix is unlocked, rooted, and running CM7.
I saw quadrant scores at ~1700 with xperia play and got worried seeing as I score ~3500 no problem, and with Antutu the Atrix gets much much higher scores than the play especially in 3D and CPU.
Does anyone have experience with both phones and can give me some ideas as to how they perform against eachother?
with the exception of the screen, the play is going to be slightly slower/worse in most respects, mine generally doesnt lag, but it happens on occasion, the tegra2 gpu is not much better than whats in the play, so gaming wise its not far behind the atrix. the browser is ok, but im expecting a big boost to usability on that front when we get ics with hw acceleration. As a phone, the play is pretty good, not amazing, but it gets the job done.
It really comes down to the hw controller, yes, theres plenty of phones out that are better than the play, but if u want to play a game, i would take the play, every time. playing things like sonic cd, or super metroid, mario 64, crash bandicoot, etc etc etc(i have about 6k+ games on my phone, ranging from nes through to n64 and everything in between almost) the play dominates the competition, 99% of those games play and feel as good or better than they originally did to play....and that in itself is amazing, and its not just emulators the games on the market are very often xplay optimized as well, its kinda suprising given the plays relatively small market share just how many are actually optimized for this little unit.
i bought mine for $450 outright with the option of an sgs2 at about $550, maybe 6 months ago, and do not regret the purchase, ive used a few sgs2's and whilst nice, good luck playing a game an enjoying it, im not sure what im gonna do if they dont end up releasing a play 2....

Couldn't have said it better myself
Although I can say that GTA runs fine for me. I'm not sure how it runs on the Atrix, but on the Play it runs pretty much the same as the PS2 version
Upgraded from an unlocked 1.3 OCed Atrix I like my play much better. Most apps are written to work on 600—800 MHZ single cores so basically the second core doesn't do much. And most "tegra exclusive" games have ported to other phones and run 100% smooth (beat GOF2 two months ago)

How did GOF2 perform with the graphics and framerate? Did it look the same?
Also, how good is the responsiveness on websites, flash, streaming YouTube, Netflix, and texting in general?
Also, are you able to use the SD to install apps? That's one big thing I don't like is storage space.
My xperia play is extremely responsive in the internet browser and pretty much any other app that I use. I upgraded from an OG droid like a year ago and the xperia play felt incredibly fast. I just overclocked my xperia play to 1.6ghz now and it's even more fast. PSX emulation's performance is to the point where it feels as if it were made for the xperia play; the games just work flawlessly with the game pad. I have grand theft auto 3 also and it plays really smooth.

Very nice hearing that.
I still need to figure out if there's a way to use my 16gb as card for app storage because I have roughly 10gbs of apps/games on my phone.
I'd use up that 400mb in a second.
Also, can I adjust the PPI or resolution to match that of the Atrix since the screens are the same size?
Is there any video out for gaming on a TV?
Overall, I'm probably going to get it and sell my Atrix, I'm just trying to plan for it since my biggest problem is that memory issue. Going from 16gb internal to 400mb is a rough one for me.

I have like 76 apps and the majority give you the option to put most of the app data on your sd card. i have 182mb internal free space with all these apps, but I did remove all of the stock verizon apps too
I used titanium backup to force move a majority of my apps to the sdcard. Have over 300 apps and still have around 180mb of free space. Have my phone overclocked to 1.2 and it just flies. I am running the Verizon stock Tom minus all the crapware they put on. Great phone, love it. Games like shadowgun, modern combat 3 are all smooth and awesome to play.

the xperia play is a great phone
but i see it as if you have to consider the benefits of a xperia play over another phone then the xperia probably isnt for you. most people will instantly see that the hardware controls are its selling point and buy it for that. to use for emulators mostly.
Just tried out a xperia play today, I'm going to buy one. They got a sale right now that its free with a 2 year contract. It was smooth online and the launcher was awesome. I tried asphalt 6 on it and compared it to my phone in HD, and I couldn't notice the HD difference, but it ran perfect.
Ill be buying it next week and selling my Atrix for $200 so basically I get 2.5 months free

You can use a stock Motorola 16 gb SD on this phone, it comes with an 8. I just swapped them between my Droid and this when I got it. However you're better off buying a Sandisk 32 GB class 4 card if you want the best performance.
There is no video out.
You also cannot adjust the screen resolution unless you root the device.
I find it amazing that a phone with a gamepad doesn't have a video out..

Galaxy on Fire plays pretty well... I'm midway through it, and I've had my share of action with lots of ships and all around shooting and what not, and the Play delivers flawlessly.

Hi Guys,
I am planning to buy this phone in the coming months.
Couple of questions:
1. Is there any lag that you have experienced after installing a lot of apps because of the limited 512MB RAM? And my friend bought this device but it shows a total of only 384MB RAM, why is that?
2. How is the game performance of the Adreno 205 on this device. Does it support most of the games with good performance?
Asking these questions because i come from using Samsung Galaxy 3 (no GPU and 256MB RAM) and these were the two main problem areas for me. Do not want to repeat the same .
If I Remeber Correctly it has the same CPU\GPU as the Desire S\HD and they play the games pretty well. and regardless of the phone you WILL get lag when tons of crap is installed even if it's the ONE X or the S3. And it shows 384mb of ram because the rest is allocated to Android System. hope this has helped you
games in the category of shadowgun runs fine
nova3 and higher doesnt works
and for the ram issue u alrdy have got an answer
go for the phone i garantee ul nt repent
Games are running fine on this tiny phone . Well, not those beasts games that needs 1gb ram or Nvidia gpu's (if any) but the decent and good games are played well on One V. Buy the phone if you don't have other option because it is a fine one!

Thanks for your input .
Yup i am fully aware how Android runs apps. It's just that my current device had 130MB free storage on an average and all that gets used up with all the important apps. Even with those many apps the phone used to lag (it was OC'd to 1Ghz plus using the V6 supercharger mod). With a better phone i expect to be able to install a few more apps that i had to compromise on earlier and a few games. I was just making sure that my new phone doesn't frustrate me like my last one (it was the best mid-ranger of its time).

Thanks, will check them out (although I was not aware of these games before). My question though was more on the lines of compatibility. Because currently 90% of the games I browse show that they are incompatible with my device . I know the GPU is only a modest one and wont be able to run those FPS genre games very well. But how about those graphics heavy puzzle and arcade games (like Temple Run, World of Goo and Jelly Defense).

Thanks, I was actually thinking of Galaxy Ace 2. It has a much more impressive piece of hardware. But it does not have ICS out of the box, and Samsung are pretty bad with updates (don't wanna flash a ROM port the first day I buy the phone ). Plus the plastic body has no comparison to the sleek unibody design of the One V, really awesome to hold . Sense 4 is also a convincing argument towards One V.

Surprising to hear that since the Ace2 has a Mali-400 GPU, which is in my opinion gives much better performance than the Adreno 205. It might be asking too much but could you compare notes with your friend on performance and overall usability of the two phones?

So in the meantime I tried to install some games, but it really does not look good. Most recent games install just fine, but either are unplayably slow or don't start (black screen then exits after some time without error message, force close with error message, or error message about missing FPU), not even low-end arcade type games.
So far only a 1 1/2 years old version of Angry Birds and GBAoid seem to work just fine.
If anybody knows of any other games that can be played on a Buzz, please tell. Doesn't look like my 7y old son will be happy with that device.

Unfortunatly Buzz isnt good with gaming. Are you on a custom rom and what kernel ? (as you can make gameplay more smooth and less lag)
Your better off getting a cheap tablet for your kid to play games off.

I know, didn't think it's gonna be that bad though.
So far I managed to install Shoot Bubble v3.0 and Dragon Fly v4.15 in addition to Angry Birds v.2.0.2 and GBAoid v.2.4.7, a lot of other (simple) games just won't run. I seriously will have to think about another phone for my boy (a tablet is out of question).
BTW I have [GB] UltraBeam V0.03 on that buzz (comes with kernel 2.6.35.14-nFinity), setup with SmartassV2 176/748 MHz.
I found 2 games that are fun, here they are

Thanks. Searching for "Classic" in Play was a good hint, I found a few of those classic ones, but only installed a few. He's not supposed to play all the time anyway
Just too bad that none of the recent games can be used, still not sure if he's gonna get the Buzz, or if we'll use it for telephony only otherwise, and I'll give him a LG Optimus 4X HD. That's tough, on one hand I don't want to refuse him to be able to play really cool games, on the other hand I'm not sure if he's up to the task yet (more concerned that he bricks or looses it).
