Is there a way to output evo to an older projector, which only has rca and vga analog inputs?
I searched around a little bit, I didn't find any mini HDMI to a/v. If anything at the moment you'll have to use adapters. Like Mini to standard/ female to female/ HDMI to RCA.

Those are expensive. I think the cheapest I saw was something like $50.
Yeah, they only way you are going to do that is with an HDMI to VGA adapter, which is not just a cheap adapter because the two standards are not compatible like DVI/HDMI.

What about your simple audio jack to vga? I think the software should pretty much be universal for that now.
EDIT: I guess you need hardware support for that

Those are scams, they never work because they don't have DACs.
And on top of that, evo has a Microhdmi type D. Not mini.
And on top of that, it would have to be Mirco HDMI -> HDMI, not the other way around, like you posted (HDMI -> mini HDMI).
Man, you are zero for 3 here.

You gotta realize those need a Digitial to Analog Converter.
Notice, that HMDI is to DVI-D,
while the DVI to VGA must be DVI-A.

As you my know there is no Hdmi dock for our 10.1 thats not really the truth. There was a post about using the center part of the 7 tab dock and some post-it notes as a work around well I ordered the 10" dock not knowing the it didnt have the Hdmi port, I was pissed, why in the hell do you have a multimedia dock with no Hdmi port.. So after seeing the video of the 7" dock I discovered that the center part will swap with the 10" dock that doesn't have the Hdmi port and now I have a real Hdmi dock...
P.s. you have to have the the power plugged in to the dock for the Hdmi to work.....

i totally agree that the dock without HDMI is just stupid. Just another way making us buy more **** a la apple-style.
Nice workaround' but how much was the total?
Yes you add the cost of the second dock but if you look around you can find used docks or other ways around this but thats not on the up and up, even tho samsung hosed us.....
as in the video does ur hdmi output crop the mirroring also?
Nope i think that was that guys TV mine is fine but i do have display settings on my TV...
so did you have to break the dock or anything to swap the parts? this has me interested but want to know what I am getting myself into lol
No the 7" dock comes in two pieces and the 10" dock pops right apart..
I think the fact that it so easy and it goes right together is what piss me off so much why not just sell this to start......
hahah that is awesome, least I know I can get full HDMI dock now for about 60$
thanks for all the info
And by the way i only paid $28 for the 7" dock at the veizon store...and make sure you get the two part style .... there is a all in one dock for the 7" you dont want that.
do you have a part number?
EDIT: I am 99% sure it is ECR-D980BEGSTA least newegg pics show it in two pieces and that is the model on there.
And fyI for anyone that doesn't already have the official hdmi connector is 40 bucks so this maybe a cheaper alternative that they don't want us know about and this is the only way to charger and watch HDMI.....

I'm not sure how reliable this site is http://www.cellularaccessory.com/epl-3phpbegsta.html , but its $27. I checked the local best buy and they did not have the usb or hdmi adapters.
This place had it for $20, http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...ies.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-hdtv-adapter/, but it looks like they took it down, but you can see by the cached copy that it was there.
Hi.
Seems there is a 10.1 part released.
Amazon

Newegg.
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834992792
That's the whole point of this thread there is no hdmi connector in that dock you have to purchase a separate 40 dollar piece that is currently unavailable at this time..
Sorry got confused.
Because it said on the newegg specs.
Port specs
3.5mm Stereo Audio Line-out
HDMI Output
30-pin Dock connecto
It's all good I saw the ad thought I can get the dock with a connector I was very pissed when i found out it did not have the hdmi connector
yeah I bought the 10.1 dock as well from new egg and they had it listed as the HDMI dock. When I got it I was pretty disappointed I even ordered the HDMI cable as well. Went to buy the 7 from new egg and they wanted nearly 60 bucks for it. So I ordered the e-bay version. Thanks for the tip.
they blotted out the HDMI port.

Hey everyone, I unfortunately don't have an HDTV, so I can't use an MHL adapter. So can anybody recommend to me a good micro USB to RCA adapter that I can use on a TV?
Ummm wow. Uh you can pick up a MHL adapter and maybe try to convert HDMI to VGA (analog signal) then VGA to RCA.
The HDMI to VGA convert the signal from digital to analog required for what your looking to do.
I suggest monoprice for the adapters because it may not work. I think the phone requires some kind of communication from the TV before it will output at all.
Maybe go to radio shack and ask them. They work off commission and usually let you try the parts in the store before you buy it.
LTE EX Galaxy Nexus CM9
Asus Transformer Revolver
I was looking at monoprice and I couldn't seem to find one cable that would do it, and I was hoping that I didnt have to use adapters on adapters to get the job done.
I found this on amazon: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=463383511&pf_rd_i=915398

but unfortunately it goes from the headphone jack, which I would assume doesnt send out the picture quite as good as from the usb, but hey for less than a buck (canadian) what do i got to loose right?
But I would still like some suggestions on what I could use through the micro usb
Please don't order that you are wasting your money, the phone doesn't support analog out of the headphone jack. Also you can't convert a digital picture to analog via cables. There is no way to go from HDMI to RCA without expensive conversion in which case you should just buy a HD TV.
Damn not the news I was hoping for, thanks though for the insight!
Search Amazon for B0047PDBP0, you've looking for an HDMI to composite (not component) video converter. However, even a cheap one is ~$50 and the quality won't be great even with a good one. You may be better off putting that $50 towards an HDTV. Amazon also has a few cheap 720p models in the $100-150 range.
Really??????

I hate to say it, but after all the crap you need to go from MHL to HDMI to component to composite, you'd be cheaper off with a 20" HDTV from your local electronics store.

there are cheap ones on ebay.. i dont know if the phone outputs the required data for this cable to work, however.. has anyone tried? i'm interested because i only ahve composite video available on the screen in my car
Without d/a conversion the signal is still digital and not analog regardless of the plug(s) the adapter changes the HDMI cable into. If your screen supports a digital input, then it might work, but I doubt it does.
if you already have an MHL cable, then youre $50 away from getting what you want http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CNiDrvDUmLQCFelDMgoduyAAtg

I want to use my Note 2 for presentations, but not all projectors have HDMI input yet. Is there a way to chain a HDMI to VGA adapter to the MHL to HDMI adapter? Or exists a working MHL to VGA adapter for the Note 2?
(I saw in another thread that not all MHL to HDMI adapters are compatible with the Note 2 - how can I tell?)
Thanks in advance,

VGA is analog, HDMI is digital, it will not work without some sort of big external converter that would require a power supply and what not...

I think this is not entirely correct, since there exist DVI(digital) to VGA(analog) adaptors:

Actually, kosanrio is right, you would need one of those powered converters. As for your dvi adapter idea, you need to remember that dvi is made in a digital and am analog format, and is only interchangeable if the equipment supports both formats. In this case, that would mean your mhl adapter needs to support analog output. I can assure you that no mhl to HDMI adapter will support that.
Just Google for mhl VGA adapter. They exist, they are relatively inexpensive, and you should look for reviews stating it works with your phone model.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
mhl adaptors need to be "11 pin" MHL adapters.
they are usually easy to recognise because they always have something like "made for galaxy s3" or "compatible with galaxy s3" written on the packaging or product page.
as for your presentation problem: wouldn't it be an idea to invest in a Pico projector?
it costs some money, but then you'd have an HDMI compatible projector no bigger than your phone, which you could just slip in your pocket or bag.
it wouldn't be much more to carry than an MHL/HDMI to VGA converter.
I'm looking to buy a MHL cable, so I've been browsing ebay.
I found this one which is nice because its length (4 meters, 13 ft) allows me to be on the couch while having full access to the phone.

The problem is, my TV doesn't has an USB port, and I don't see any micro-USB female port on that cable.
Am I buying a crippled/broken cable or am I missing something here?
I've seen other MHL cables (3 meters, 10 ft), which look like they have a female micro-USB port (for connecting either the power or the USB cable)... the problem is that they ship from Hong Kong... which takes a whole month to arrive!
1 for phone (micro-USB male), 1 for power/charging (USB Male) and 1 for HDMI port in TV.
I bought this cable and it works perfectly. So I have near TV laptop with USB
HDMI to RCA
Guys will this cable work?

That's rigth, the MHL cable needs a power connection, in this case is using the USB connection to do that, the MHL Samsung Original cable needs to connect the AC Adapter or USB cable to works.
You has to have a PC near to connect maybe.
it is simple, really. mhl needs a connected charger.
the cable suggested in the OP seems to be layout to use a tv's usb port, so the power supply will be at the end which also has the hdmi port.
the regular mhl cables, like the samsung original one, are just an 8" cable with required power supply via micro usb (female) at the end of the phone. pro: it also comes with a female hdmi port, so you can vary the length of the cable to match your usage profile, while the other one is fairly hard to extend.
either way, you will need a power supply, either on the side of the phone, or near the tv.
PS: have you thought about using an AC usb power connector for the power supply of the cable in post #1. these are fairly common, cost no more than 1$, and i assume, there is a power outlet near your tv.

I've just received the Analogix SlimPort HDMI adapter (SP1003) for my Nexus 5 and it works fantastically with my short 1-2 metre HDMI cables.
However, if I try a 10 metre cable, the display cycles between on and off every few seconds.
Now, I'm not sure whether it's the length of the cable or if it's the cable's version. My shorter cables are most probably version 1.3 HDMI cables. The 10m one is 1.4 with ethernet.
I've read somewhere that HDMI cables with ethernet do not work with SlimPort. Is that correct? Should I order an older 1.3 version? I'm thinking 10m is a bit excessive anyway and I'll probably go for 3 to 5 metres this time anyway. But I didn't want to order one with ethernet and experience the same problem!
I have a 3m 1.4a HDMI cable and experience the exact same situation. Same happened with a MHL 1.0 adaptor I tried with SG Note 3, so I concluded the cable is just to long for a phone to provide signal. But I'm not sure about this.
I have a hdmi 1.4w/ethernet cable that I use with my slimport. About 2m I think. No problems.

I have been wanting to buy a longer hdmi cable for my Analogix SlimPort SP1003. After reading a couple posts, I'm not sure if a longer cable will work as well.

I don't suggest to use a cable longer that 2m.

If you don't mind me asking, from where did you pick up your Analogix SlimPort? It looks like it's only available from a 3rd party seller on Amazon for $50, and I can't find any other reputable sellers that still sell it for it's original $30 price (or preferably lower ). Thanks.
So I sent the 10m cable back and ordered the cheapest 3m cable I could find from Amazon UK here. It doesn't even say what version it is, so I assumed it was 1.3 without ethernet.
I got lucky as this cable works perfectly. No dropouts at all.

I got my adapter from Amazon UK here for around £20 ($30) as I live in the UK. I can't seem to find the same one on amazon.com. One of the cheaper ones might be just as good as the adapter is only passive anyway.
