Multitasking - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, when i hold home key, i just see 6 recent programs, but i want to see all of programs i am using on multitasking menu (like on iphone) is there any way to do that ?

I am sorry but its not possible...It can only display last six recent apps...BTW do you really use more than 6 apps at a time??

In some ROMs like opendesire and cyanogenmod you can set recent apps to 9 etc.. You can also use a task manager with a shortcut to see what's running.
But I do not recommend using a task manager on Android 2.1 or higher.

why ? I saw that on stock samsung galaxy s, when you hold the button it opens multitasking menu with 6 recent apps and under theme there's a link to all running programs

Sense 2.5 switch programs

Hello guys,
I'm using the Energy rom with sense 2.5 from march 17
I like very much sense 2.5, but
is there already an easy solution for switching between different programs?
because for example when I'm using Opera 10, I can't use the top left menu for program switching/closing
I'm thinking for holing hardware button may be?
and why most of the programs closed when I press X at bottom right?
my HTC task manager function for auto kill programs is disabled
Thanks

Multitasking

Hi
Just got my Desire and I like it so far!
It's a multitasking phone - allegedly! - but I haven't worked out how to have more than one program running and to switch between them. If I fire up the Internet, for example, can I leave it running and open Messages, for example, and then Maps? I realise that widgets are sort of multitasking but what about programs?
Cheers.

Press the Home button to exit an active application and go back to home. You can then open up anything else you like and leave the original processes in the Background. Hold the Home Button to see recent apps and click the one you want to return to (or select the icon in the menu, Either way)

Thanks. But how do I switch between running (open) programs? How do I know what is running? I thought you would be able to use the seven screens for different programs and flick between them.

[REQ] Overriding Home button long press

Hi!
Was wondering if we could somehow override the home button long press to run a custom application instead of showing the recent apps list? This way, we could develop a custom application which shows more stuff rather than just 6 recent apps.
Some ideas are - integrating a task manager which shows running apps, favorite apps shortcuts, shortcut to app drawer etc.
I could develop the application but I wouldn't know how to override the home button long press! Any ideas anyone?
Cheers,
San
Well, there is at least one (paid) app that already does this (could be more but i don't know of them) - "MultiTasking Pro" http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.tkdtnek23.app.multitaskingpro
It would be nice to have extra functionality though, such as a clock (say, if you're in the middle of a game and want to check the time).
As for how it works, just from testing it out, it appears to act as a launcher (given that single home button press takes you to home launcher). I gather this as I had to set it as the default app when i pressed home button for the first time, aswell asthe fact that you have to select the home launcher in the app settings.
The way the app works is, press home button once brings up the menu (overlaying existing app). press it a second time and it takes you to the "default" home launcher as selected in settings. If you hold down home, the original app menu pops up, reinforcing the fact that this isn't a replacement per se.
Of course, overriding the original home button hold function menu would appear to be a much cleaner solution, and I welcome any info on that... whether its integrated into touchwiz or what not... One things for sure, is that samsung modified it to include a link to their "task manager" app.
TaskSwitcher is better, faster, uses less memory and it's completely free.
However no app can replace the long press. It needs kernel/system file modding.

Indeed, not possible. Does anyone know if it was implemented in other android phones?
PS. Power strip is better =) Very very fast and you can see 12 recent apps + widgets. Itching thumb is very promising, but its a plain beta for now.
Yeah but itching thumb uses a LOT of memory.

For me Itching Thumb is currently the only task switcher style thing I find good enough (interface, functionality) to run next to Launcher Pro... I uninstalled all others I tried before.
But if I could have Launcher Pro on short press home, and Itching Thumb on long press home, that would be exactly how I would want that . Because I think optimizations such as memory use will come in time anyway.
I hope for the visual style to be integrated in android and have a real preview, live of the app.

Any idea on what would need to be modified?

[Q] Recent App List

I'm on CM7 nightly 256. I would love for a single tap on my home button launch the recent apps, then a second tap bring up the home screen. Is this possible? instead of a long press to open the recent app screen. I recently installed Perfect Task Switcher to fill the void left from the ics switcher and it leaves quite a bit to be desired.
If I were to self into writing an app for this, what function is called to bring up recent apps?

trying to get some samsung apps back after switching to CM9

So I've switched to CM9, but some apps are better in the stock rom IMHO:
1. the dailer (better graphics and allows to accept ccalls with the home button and disconnect with the power button)
2. the app drawer (has a list view with letter index)
3. the task manager (easily kill rouge apps, esp. the widget that gives a quick access)
Where can I find these to install?
Also, I'm using Go Launcher Ex now (because it allows for smaller icons in the home screen). But is there a way to make it use an alternative app drawer?
