Hi all,
I have a HTC Desire A8181, SLCD, hboot 0.83 with AuraxtSense 7.4, its umbranded and not simlocked. I would like to install STOCK 2.2 (RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe)
Is it possible to simple execute .exe or i have to do it using other way? which way?
Thank you,
Marcello
Moved to Q&A. Please don't post question threads in Development.
Yes it is possible to just execute it, and it will guide you through the process.
There is other ways if you can't get it to work but start with the ruu
i second that. if you want to go back to stock unrooted rom, flashing a RUU is an easy way of doing that. but if you want other ways. you can try this one.

Hey Guys,
im getting a Desire through Telstra tonight, and the first thing i want to do is debrand the thing.
I have read up on some things but still a little confused, can someone point me in the right direction, of 1 how to unlock the phone, root it and the best ROM to install on it.
Much Appreciated
Ok i think i know what im doing now.
One thing though, i just want a normal rom to put on it, just debranded, can anyone recommend me something?
I dont really want custom roms etc
Look in the sticky in rom section, shows the stock roms available. Then you can upgrade to stock 2.2
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Ok so if i use this rom
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
Which are not rooted do i still need to root the device etc or can i just use this rom and it will update and remove the telstra stuff?
And is this the latest normal 2.2 Rom?
You need to root to debrand, then put the stock Rom on

Ok no worries ill do that, but is the rom i posted the correct Stock 2.2 Rom i would use in AUS? for the Desire?
Just remember having a goldcard always inserted, while debranding and OTA updating.
I was gunna do this method, no goldcard needed.

But do i only have to have the goldcard inserted while updating and rooting, then i can remove it?

HI there,
I used the unrevoked method and this provides "root" and ClockworkMod Recovery. I then initially downloaded [ROM-FroYo] Official Froyo HTC Sense ROM (16/07 v1.0c | OpenDesire Team) link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726300
The above rom is very much like the standard HTC sense ROM but without the Tel$tra bloatware. Have a good search on xda though as there have been a number of roms (sense like) been released since this one.
I have since moved on to [ROM-FROYO AOSP] OpenDesire v3.6.1 (720P | 2.6.34.5 SVS KERNEL | 1305mhz) (26/08). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712615
This rom is a "vanilla" (plain) version of the android OS and is half the size of the sense ROM, and is clean and fast, but you lose the "sense" interface and the HTC FM radio.
Everything else camera, wi-fi, GPS, phone, etc works perfectly from me.
BTW, all this is on a Tel$ta Desire (A8183) that is 3 months old. I have had no probs at all.
Hope this helps
Thats awesome info great so ill use the guide i posted to Root the device then i can install any ROM i wont, i think ill use the original 2.2 Rom that i posted earlier in the thread
to confirm even if i want to use a stock HTC RUU rom from the Stock Rom page i still have to Root my device?

It would be pointless rooting before applying an RUU, as it's not necessary and the flash process will remove root anyway.
That RUU you pointed to will break a Desire with an SLCD screen, so be warned.
Ok so i should just use a hacked rom thats based on the normal one, how do i find out if the phone i have is SLCD?
You can still use an official ROM. Read this for lots of info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749551
WOW now im even more confused i used to be able to hack my old HTC Touch Pro easily lol.
Ok so i have to hope my Telstra delivered phone is still AMOLED, then i wont have any dramas, to be honest im not much into running a custom rom, id rather just get rid of the telstra crap thats going to be on the phone, but i also do not want to brick it or break the screen in the process.
So if i just use one of the RUU updates in your post you linked me too it doesnt matter if its AMOLED or SLCD i can update to it without rooting?
Ill get the phone first work out if i have SLCD or not, then go from there.
I wont Froyo on my phone and no telstra stuff so i can make a goldcard and update, or if i have a AMOLED phone use the Rooting tool and update to any rooted ROM correct?
You can debrand on any type of screen using the correct RUU. You can root both types too.
If you root you cannot run an official ROM, but you can run something almost exactly the same.
Which Froyo Rom (rooted) would be the closest to stock?
To Confirm if i have an AMOLED phone i can just update a Stock Non Branded ROM without rooting? By placing the update.zip on the phone and updating using recovery mode?

hi widge
just go with the flow, unbrand it, root it and play with all the roms, your gonna love it. try em all and see what u like best. I am on nextsense rom 7 at the mo and waiting for the kitchen to open again so i can do some cooking. Tried opendesire a while back and it was pretty mint, may take a lokk at it again myself.
You can't switch to an unbranded rom by using update.zip files, you use an RUU to flash the phone, which requires a goldcard.
To install custom roms you root and install them as zip files in recovery.
You can do both on an SLCD or AMOLED screen, but with an SLCD screen you have to be more careful which RUU you use.
First of all i wan't to apologise because there's probably a thread about this somewhere, but ill be honest i searched and googled a lot and only got more confused. I am really lost in the terminology and everything that is availbale on this forum so i'm just going to ask here and hope for a simple answer.
I have an unbranded unlocked HTC Desire, which i rooted to the Nexus One 2.2 froyo. Now i want to go back to stock 2.1 htc sense so i can update it to 2.2. I can't use the stock roms because htc sync doesn't recognize my phone. so im kinda lost and don't know what to do.
Is it possible to do it? and if it is possible, then can some one please explain in a simple step-by-step form how to do it.
Thank you in advance!
Im pretty sure you can just extract the rom.zip from an ruu and flash it from recovery

Hello,
first of all, before doing something wrong
screen AMOLED or SLCD?
HBoot ? to check the Hboot vol.down+power
U can downgrade to 2.1 (HBoot 0.80) using a SAPPIMG there´s a thread in the forum explaining how to do it, but first check your screen type first...
If it´s AMOLED like mine i can post the RUU i used to unroot the phone and get the Froyo2.2
it's AMOLED
hboot version 0.80.0000
Ok so was mine, so i runned this RUU:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...3.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
then did the OTA update
i have froyo 2.2 already on it.
will this take me back to the 2.1 htc sense?
just tried it, getting an error that the phone is not connected to the usb. and it obviously is

Why is it precisely that you wish to revert back to HTC 2.1 then to HTC 2.2 again?
You can currently flash HTC 2.2 ROMs directly, which have HTC sync working. They are different to the Google/AOSP FroYo ROMs on many accounts, most paramount with the addition of HTC Sense.

Thank you everyone for your help and use full comments. I ended up using the guide from the desire development forum, its under "[TUT]Complete upgrading guide(root, unroot, flashing ROM & updates)" sorry i cant post links yet. . It is very easy and noobie friendly.
I downgraded to the stock htc desire 2.1 and updated with the official 2.2.
Now i have 2 issues with it:
car mode enables itself every 10 mins or so even if i switch it off.
and some websites reload themselves in 10 or so seconds after loading them.
any ideas?
Thanks
Enter recovery, and do a wipe data, or factory reset, settings>sd and storage...

Hello,
Please help me. I want to unroot my Desire. I rooted it with unlockr method. And I use now AuraxTsense. My Desire got 0.93 bootloader. Please help, how to unroot it? I try with exe files that are in Android development, but I always get 140 error, that it's bad ROM.
What ROM are you trying to go back to? What ROM did your Desire come with originally?

however just create a gold card and follow the steps, it debrands it during the process
Hey guys
I did a terrible mistake and upgraded my lovely Desire to RUU GB 2.3 from HTC... so, from now on I am stuck with this version.
Is there any way to revert/downgrade or anything else to get the ability to install custom ROMs again?
Thanks.

http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
revolutionary can s-off ur desire with GB, it will also install a cwm recovery, after that u can flash the rooted rom that u want
Just to add to the above comment..
Should you ever wish to return to STOCK froyo (i.e. HTC RUU), you'll need to downgrade HBOOT (can be found on alpharev site).
But as you've only mentioned custom ROM's, I guess you're good to go!
am i right in thinking branded handsets can update to GB the official and that will debrand and they won't need a gold card in future?
I have thought that but as i am not branded I can't test - but someone branded has asked if they need one and i am not sure...
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

When I didn't have my goldcard (or an SD adapter to create one) and wanted to revert to stock FROYO, I installed GB rom with no problems. I then created a goldcard, downgraded HBOOT and installed FROYO again.
So in short, I don't believe the GB update requires a goldcard. If you choose to downgrade again, though, you will require it.
I'm not sure on the custom GB roms, but this is certainly the case for the official release by HTC.
