Yo. So, I've been wanting to experiment with CM6 because you guys rant and rave over it, so I change my bootloader and nandroided my Fresh 3.3 setup. I have a Titanium from my Fresh 3.3 days as well.
So, how do I get my contacts/apps/settings and stuff back? This rom is obviously AOSP, so my settings for Sense-based applications don't have a place. What about my contacts? They were in my HTC Contacts app. Is there a way to transfer them to the stock Android Contacts app?
Should I restore my Titanium backup, or is that a bad idea because this is AOSP? I searched, but no luck. I'm sure somebody's done this.
Edit: Also, in other news, I don't have a data connection. Was there a radio update I should've done or something?
Bump. Come on, I want to use CM6 to its fullest. I tried another search and I can't find much.

The easiest way to back up contacts with aosp is with gmail and google apps.
The contacts should have synced into your Google/Gmail account. If it didn't, you probably messed up by disabling background syncing either completely or by disabling contact syncing specifically.
Mybackup..for everything.

Thanks for the responses. So, Google should have put my contacts back on by now? I have automatic sync enabled and everything, but I've never had it restore my contacts before. I signed into Google upon installing the gapps zip on the CM6 page, but still no contacts.
Also, can I hit restore "all data and apps" and stuff in Titanium, or is that a bad idea?

Better question: Did you have background sync, your Google Account, and Google Sync enabled back on your previous ROM?
Check https://www.google.com/contacts to be sure.
I ended up nandroiding back to my Fresh setup, exporting my contacts to my SD and then going back to CM6 and importing them. Then Google synced them without any problems. The apps don't really matter.
I'm really digging CM6. I thought I would miss Sense a lot and switch back after an hour, but this is awesome.

So I recently installed a new ROM and used mybackup root instead of titanium as the automated re installations of my apps was very tempting. However, upon trying to restore, it restored about 5 of my total apps. It lists all my apps in the program and just says: Nothing Restored. Is there a way to fix it? Or I was thinking if I installed Titanium could that somehow find all the backed up apps and reinstall them?
You can go to "SD CARD\rerware\MyBackup\" and there you should see the .apk's for all the apps you backed up. I haven't tried myself, but i'm pretty sure you could just install them. Might take a bit longer, but I'm not sure about the cross-compatibility between the 2 programs.
What about contacts? How do you back up those?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Those should be syncing automatically with your google account. Go into your gmail account and click on contacts on the side.
Will this work even if the contact says phone only?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
No, those you must manually backup, or you could add them to your Google contact list and then they will be backed up automatically upon sync.
Ok, thanks

And my Facebook app lets me get all the numbers that my friends r posted is there anyway to sync them with my phone like a stock Evo can do cause cyanogen wont allow this

Are you just missing the Google Apps? Most people's contacts are either associated with their Gmail account or the Facebook account.
If you need the Gapps, go to http://goo-inside.me/gapps and download the appropriate ones (the 20110307 are likely the most appropriate).
If you didn't back up your previous ROM, you cannot retrieve your "stuff", but once you install the Gapps, you can download any previous Market purchases again.

Are you referring to the built in hotspot tether or the app wireless tether? There is a fix for the app. Search the forum to find it if that is what you mean. Go into settings and then accounts and sync and make sure Facebook is set up to sync. If that doesn't help be a little more specific as to what you mean. Could be as simple as a fix permissions and reboot!

you didnt back up AT ALL?! not even like mybackups or titanium? nothing? zero? nada? goose egg? for serious?
I went from the stock rom to juggernaut today for the second time, and this time, some of my contacts are gone. I used to have about 200, now I'm down to 41. I have a backup of the stock rom that I did last night, but is there an easier way than reflashing that rom, saving the contacts, reflashing the juggernaut rom, and restoring the contacts?
Always sync your contacts with your google account so that no matter which rom you flash youll always have your updated list.

Does he have a google account setup?? Because if he did is only a matter of signing to your Gmail and they all should be stored there.
Yes he does I thought the same thing I was like its fin Google backs it up but nope not there either
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
This may sound funny but could it be possible that he has more than one and you're not using the right Gmail account? Well in any case you can go into that Gmail account that he used from a computer and check if those contacts are there; now if the're not then I think is fair to say they're gone almost for sure... Now if they are there then we can figure out a way to get those back in there.

Is he on a stock rom or have you installed something non-stock for him? Also, as stated above, log in to contacts.google.com and see whats there. If they are there then go into accounts/sync, disable google contacts sync then reboot, connect to good wifi connection, and re-enable contacts sync.
If they aren't showing up in contacts.google.com theeeeeen I might try another reboot. Or maybe fix permissions if you are rooted and your recovery supports it.

When I go to the play store the apps I purchased say I didn't buy them. Gmail won't sync. Samsung account won't sync. My contacts won't sync and mostly every thing else like this. Execpt my yahoo mail with the stock email app does sync. I have sync on. I have even tried manually doing it. Everything looks normal. I have tried several different roms clean install every time and this is without adding, changing anything. I have no trouble signing into any account. Its just that nothing is there.
Now here is the really weird part. I made a backup of my rom before I started flashing and when I restore my backup EVERYthing is find play store recognizes I purchased my apps everything syncs. I have never seen this before and I have now spend all my time for the last three days looking for an answer and I found some things to try but none of them worked. I tried clearing app data, uninstalling updates, reinstalling them, and some other things I'm forgetting right now. The only thing I can think of at this point is to unroot and go back to stock. I'm hoping that you guys will have some advice for me. Thanks
