I have an 8gb sandisk class 2 micro SD card.I had previously partitioned as fat32 and 1gb ext3 using Ubuntu 10.04 Live CD.Stupidly mounted in windows and now i can not format the card. The desire says damaged card.Win7 reports as read only and Ubuntu as /dev/mmcblk0 has been opened read only.
I also tried using HDDGuru Low level Format tool after reading some threads relating to this problem.Seemed to run fine but still shows up as read only.
Any suggestions of what i should try next?
Is the little switch on the sd card in lock position

Hi,you should try to delete the 2 partitions on your SD card and re-partition it by using either GParted in linux or Minitool Partition Wizard in Windows.Good luck

Hello.
I have bought a new SD Card (kingston 16gb Class4).
I had a lot of problems with ext3 make. By Gparted it have errors.
I have readed this topic.
Can I repair my SD Card?
Sry for my english.
How are you connecting the card? Via a card reader or still in the phone? If it's still in the phone make sure you are in recovery and not booted in to android.
I made it by card reader. Formatting and partitioning by recovery - errors.
Have you tried erasing all the partitions and creating them again? What happens if you click the 'Repair' button?
I've always done my partitioning with my card in the phone, connected to my PC while in recovery and used Minitool Partition Wizard for Windows (this software was suggested in a thread I read a while ago) and never had any problems.
There is also the possibility of the card having a hardware problem, so you might need to swap it under warranty.
yes, first i have erased all partitions (deleted)
On repair ext - error, fat32 works fine.
first make an extended partition for your fat32 and inside that a primary fat32.
The unallocated space make it ext3

shouldn't both partitions be primary (no extended ones)?
erase everything 1st keep it unformatted then create fat32 primary then ext primary (optional linuxs swap) this is what i have done when installed miui rom data2ext
i suggest you dont use that card reader try through the cell....
I have tried a lot of methods - ext still no works.

Where did you get the card from?
Stupid question but two of my friends bought cheap (fake) cards from eBay and both had problems with them, either the card kept losing data or they go errors loading from the card due to the poor quality. In which case you need to spend a little more and get a proper card from amazon on a high street retailer.
If not then as suggested use try formatting and partitioning the card through the recovery on your phone, most of the up-to-date recoveries can do this and it's the easiest way to get the card ass needed for a2sd etc. if it still doesn't work then take the card back it's probably faulty.
I bought this card too and even though I had no issues formatting the card I do have speed issues with it. I've been in contact with Kingston and they're looking into it. My writing speed is 1.6Mb/s....
But now a tip for you, I couldn't use Gparted since it's Live CD wont start my monitors. So I downloaded Easeus Partition Master. Very easy to use and it worked perfect.
Start with your Fat32 partition and then your Ext partition.
You can find the program here: http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html

Hi everyone,
I have a problem: I think I've ruined my 16GB Micro SD card.
I've tried to partition it using MiniTool Partition Wizard, into fat32 + ext3. Somehow, now Windows only sees 11.38GB on the card.
I've repeatedly formatted it to no avail. I've tried deleting all partitions using MiniTool, but it just keeps getting smaller! What am I doing wrong? How can I start again....I just want those 4 or 4 GB back!
Hi there. If I am not mistaken, Windows cannot recognized the ext partition. This is why you will only see the fat32 size. I suggest you to use Gparted live cd to repartition again your SD card

Yep, use Gparted and use a card reader or the phone in recovery. In recovery don't forget to mount all the partitions.

hi, i am using desire S-ON with 512 mb of ext partition created through rom manager. Now i want reformat my sd card into 1 gb ext 3 partition. Rom manager doesnt have any option of 1Gb. i tried using gparted live but that doesnt detect my sd card. I am connecting my sd card Via phone. Any clue on how can i get my sd card reformatted?
Use a usb card reader with gparted instead of through your phone

Connect the phone to the PC and mount the SD card from recovery BEFORE you turn the PC on and GParted should see it then.
Thanks a lot . mounting the phone before pc starts worked for me. Cant believe i wasted so much time because of this simple trick. Thanks once again

From what I can recall cwm only recognizes fat 32. You can format your sd card to fat 32 using a specific windows app. It's called guiformat.

You can also use Easus Partition Manager.
I've been using it for years. It's what I used to format my own 64GB MicroSD in Windows to Fat32.
It's free btw

can someone please let me know if the samsung galaxy 3 micro sd card can be formatted to something other than fat32 and if so what are the formats that are available and other question is if its dependent on the rom currently flashed to the device? thank u sorry if this has been answered before
I believe android requires fat32, but you can repartition the card to have an ext4 partition along with the normal fat32 partition. I've only seen that used for apps2sd use though.
I have a 64GB card in my phone that is formatted exFAT. It works fine except that it can not be seen be recovery. I also had to download an update for my old win xp machine to read the card.
