Question Dev's Read Please - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if i put this in the wrong place since its something im developing a rom it should be fine. I'm putting together a custom rom for MetroPCS users and there's just one thing that i haven't been able to figure out, how to change the decompiled rom's APN settings? I remember once when I had my Eris i saw someones vendor tree and I saw the APN settings there but idk how it works on the EVO. I know there's a apn-conf.xml in the /system/etc folder but that one isnt it. I'm using dsxida's rom builder. Any help will be appreciated.

ROM has my old Ringer!!

I am trying to dig through an old summiter ROM to extract ringers but can't find the ringers. I am looking at the ROM using WinRAR, but there is some NK file that is the largest of all; are ringers in there?
That is noob I know but I haven't broken up a ROM since the old Summiter days, and am lost.
What tools are there to break up a ROM to see the indivudual files in them?
I saved you the trouble as I keep those on my SC. Here's summiter's wavs and themes.
(I'm such a pack rat, keep every ROM Summiter, Faria, Molski and the rest of the rat pack ever released (and many that never made it to being released)
Enjoy!

Thanks for the help Doc, unfortunately I was unable to find it in your collection. I am going to move my thread to the general area per the others request and try to find this ringer of mine, check it out if you get a sec. Thanks again!!!

APN List

Can someone please tell me where the apn list is held when viewing a rom in WINRAR? I need to extract it from the stock rom (rooted) and input it to FroyoSense.
I have ran searches but cant find anything named 3g or apn.
found it...
If you could let everyone know where you found it that would be great.
It wont work as is, you need to edit it.
You need to change <apns version="6"> to <apns version="8">
This was posted in the FroyoSense (OpenDesire) thread.
The file your looking for is /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
Thanks for your input. I am trying to create my own update.zip that will push my BT apn settings to my phone as they are not included in any of the updates so far and I am using the latest FroyoSense Rom V1.0c.
Can someone please take a look at me file and tell me where I am going wrong? Cause it aint working yet it looks identical to others I have seen.
Any help appreciated.

At the last i made my custom ROM,now comes the questions?

Hello, atlast after 3days of download and work i have made a custom Rom that has my name on it with HTC Desire HD stuff and updates but now what i need to ask is :
1) how can i put my name Rom name in the Notification like RCMix or the others?
2) any easy way to make boot screens or animations or so found but that i can edit or anything?
3) any way to make a custem theme there is only the online thing and sadly i dont knw how to use it or its limited, i want like AuraxTSense is it possible?
4) if i have a update.zip file that has in it an .apk can i take it and add it to the app section and it will work normaly?
that is it for now thanks a lot for all the help i get and links....
To add your own version number, open the build.prop file and add it to the end of the 'Software version' line
To build themes from scratch, I believe that you'd have to rip apart the res-framework.apk.

If you change the .apk to .rar you can extract and see some jpegs and whatnot in their folders. This should be the one to edit.
Then again, these are the things I've picked up from the chatter between the more senior and tech-savvy.

Modifying settings.apk

What's goin on guys?
So, I'm doing a project for school and I chose to create a custom settings app for my phone. I plan to include tricksterMOD and Pimp my ROM stuff, but creating my own interface for it.
I've already modified the strings.xml to include 'Other' in the interface in res/values/ .. I just don't know what to add in settings_headers.xml in res/xml, or what smali edits to make. Anyways, my question is, could anybody help me? I know my details were a bit vague about what I want to do with it, so if you have questions, please ask. I could just use a hand in this
Thank you!
(Using the settings.apk in DreamsForgotten 4.2.1 ROM for the Toroplus, before using this anywhere I will be asking for his permission, and before turning this in I will make sure to let the teacher know I borrowed this from him/Google!!)

Adding an apk to SecSettings.apk

I've run through several how-to's and I still can't get an app to compile after I make the changes to add something to the settings app. I make the changes to strings xml and settings_header but then it won't compile. The reason for it not compiling seems to be an issue with the android manifest xml but in all I have done I do not alter it (or maybe I need to)
Anyone have an idea ? Thank you !

Most devs don't cruise the Q&A section, so you will probably get more help here. It will also benefit other members having it all in one place.
Some more info will help like what app you are trying to add.

Thank you. It's a bit unclear the best place to ask questions not related to flashing or someone else's ROM. That and I was getting pretty mad and now that
I read my above question,it is so vague and rambling.
I posted my question over there.
