My Evo Is stuck in the a bootloop. I can on get to the fastboot screen. I have tried updateing with the PC36IMG.zip file but this does not help. I have also clear data. I've tried going into the recovery menu but it just starts the boot loop again. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Need more information derrell1978. What are you trying to do? First, are you sure your PC36IMG.zip is good. Do you have a nandroid backup, can you get to recovery. Power off your phone, select power+volume down, see if you can get to recovery.
What were you trying to do before you got stuck in the bootloop?
I was going from Cyanogenmod to AvaRom. I cannot go into recovery only the fastboot screen.
Yeah you proly used the wrong pc36img. What hboot version do you have? You might have to reroot.
I have updated using three different P36IMG files from XDA Forums and still in a bootloop.

Hboot ver 0.79.0000
IF he was to re-root with unrevoked 3.21, would that process re-install the recovery?
Ive never used unrevoked but maybe. He definately has stock hboot. I suggest trying that. Or maybe using the first simple root. Do you have adb and android sdk installed

Assuming you have a way to get the file onto your sdcard (like plugging it directly into your computer), you can flash the recover image from hboot. I am not sure where you can get the plane jane clockwork recovery, but you can get the slightly modified clockwork recovery with easy scrolling enabled from the thread linked below. That should at least get you up and running again and then you can flash back the regular CW Recovery from Rom Manager if you don't like the easy scroll version.
Instructions for flashing from hboot are also in the thread.

I saw it but was guessing he meant s-off because of the way he said it. Hopefully unrevoked worked for him then as I don't think you have to have s-off for it to work.
Other option would be to flash a stock RUU from hboot. That should work even if he is s-on.

Either way. He's got hboot, which means its not a brick
to the OP
If nothing else works,
I agree with sdorn. RUU is the way.
Thats what will fix your issues.
If you cant get to recovery and you have S-on, meaning that you cannot flash a custom recovery, your only option is to RUU. There is a link in android development. You will need a windows computer. Try this and report back. If it doesnt work and gives you a USB error, simply: 1. Exit the ruu program (KEEP YOUR PHONE PLUGGED IN), and 2. Run it again.
Boom, no more brick
but, hours worth of retweaking.

This update there is no need to have s-off, you can do out with s-on. It is the official ota update from verizon. Just download it, put out on the your of your sd card, then power phone up while holding the power button and volume down button. It should recognoize the file and ask you if you want to install. This is easier than the RUU and just as effective.

He can't get into recovery, so he can't apply the update. He's got to ruu.
1. Download the update.zip file from here. (DIRECT FROM GOOGLE.)
2. Drop the file on the root of your SD card. (Meaning, don’t put it in any folder.)
*MAKE SURE IT’S NAMED UPDATE.ZIP!
3. Turn your phone off.
4. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power at the same time to boot into HBOOT.
5. When the white HBOOT screen appears, use the volume button to move down to “RECOVERY.”
6. Press the Power button to select “RECOVERY.”
7. When the triangle and exclamation appears, hold the Volume Up and Power button at the same time.
8. Using the volume button, scroll down to “apply sdcard:update.zip” and select it.
9. Your phone will now update!
10. It could take some time, so be patient. When it reboots, you are on official 2.2. Yay!

Unrevoked drivers don't play nice with the ruu.
Follow above posters to RUU to 2.2 stock.

So i wanted to get the new cm7 up and running. went into hboot and noticed that i still had .77 or something like that, remember reading that i should upgrade to .92. went back into the phone, downloaded .92, installed it....ever since then i haven't been able to reboot the phone into anything...besides hboot. it won't go into recovery. it won't do a normal reboot. it's hboot or nothing. this phone isn't the only contact with my family at home during the day that i have. so if anyone can help me i'd be very appreciative. If it involved adb...i would need exact lines of code. i've never messed with it, so its not in my bag of tricks. the phone was having issues with boot times for the last couple of days, but it always wound up booting up. well i've been waiting on it to boot up into recovery for 10 min now, and i don't think my luck for the day is about to get any better. did battery pulls, still nothing.
any info or help at all would be GREATLY appreciated.

it says it did. at the top of the hboot screen it says .92.000 and i'm just going to the recovery option from hboot. it won't boot the phone or into recovery though. just sits on the white htc screen, for 6 hours now.
When you update HBOOT, it can bork your boot.img. Reflash CWM and then restore a nandroid and you should be fine.

Hboot automatically recognizes the pb12img... It's the first thing it does.
Put the file on the root of the SD card (not in any folders), boot into the Hboot and let it do it's thing.
your sd card NEEDS to be formatted to fat32 though.

Recovery is flashed from HBOOT via a PB31IMG.zip, not from within itself. You can use the PB31IMG.zip that I've linked to below.

If the RUU isn't detecting the phone, try running it while in fastboot usb. To do that, boot to your bootloader. Select the 'fastboot' option. Then plug your evo in to the USB. It should say 'fastboot usb' now. At this point, try running the RUU. It should detect the phone and run from fastboot usb. When you tried the PC36IMG.zip, and it failed, what happened? Did it give you any errors? Did it not detect the PC36IMG? The more detail you leave here, the better help we'll all be able to give you. What hboot version are you on? We could try using fastboot to erase EVERYTHING in your phone, then try the RUU from a clean slate.
EDIT: Also, for the RUU to work, you do need to have HTC Sync installed on your computer. It contains the required drivers for the RUU to work.

Go to a on recovery thread and download the pc36img.zip to flash recovery. Once done go into your nandroids and restore if hopefully you have some and you did nandroids with A on. If not go to the clockwork thread and look for their recovery and see if there is an boot method to flash it. Then you can try and wipe all or run caulkins wipe all and flash thru recovery
Edit: that Amon and not A on

That is stock recovery. When you ran the RUU, it would have taken your phone back to Stock, out of the box.
Are you still S-Off?? (Check in Bootloader, at the top of the screen)
If you are, search Amon Ra Recovery, get the PC36IMG and put it on the root of your SDCard, and then reboot to Hboot (Vol-Dwn & Pwr at the same time)
It should discover the file, ask you to update, say yes, then it will flash recovery on your phone. Once it's done flashing, it will restart hboot, find the file again, ask you to upgrade, this time say no, then scroll to recovery and hit power button to enter. Now, you're in recovery, you can clear your caches and flash a ROM, IF you didn't screw things up by flashing the ROM from the other phone.
Matter of fact, since you have RUU flashed, you may want to just try to boot up normally before anything else, just to see what happens.
I was on one of the older Hboots, decided to update that and the radio. I flashed the new Hboot, now it says S-On and it DOES NOT reboot. Everytime I try rebooting, it shows the splash screen and goes right back to the Hboot menu! Can anyone help me?
Try running unrevoked forever from the recovery and it may let you unlock it. If not you may be stuck.

Yeah, I think I had .93 Hboot, maybe should have just stayed with that, I dunno.
if it's bouncing you back to hboot it could be for the same reason it bounces you back to recovery after using a format_all.zip file.
Go find Sprint Lover's 2.3. It comes in a PC36IMG file you can put in the root of your sd card and flash in the bootloader (aka parsing the update).
It's rooted so you'll keep s-off and your phone should boot. Also, once you're booted, download rom manager and put your recovery back
Hope this helps!
I am trying to return my father's evo to stock. It was rooted with CM7 stable on it. I have run through the RUU method but when the phone restarts it boots and then when the lock screen is unlocked the phone just restarts.

I had HTC Sync installed. I actually just uninstalled it per the unrevoked directions. The RUU completed but the phone just restarts when I try to swype to unlock it or if I wait long enough it will just restart on its own. I can't flash the S-on tool without a custom recovery installed, since running the RUU method removed the custom recover is that correct? I have tried to boot into the recovery via the hboot method and that just results in 5 vibrations.
are you able to use the phone.. can you install Clockworkmod recovery App?

Alright tried the Unrevoked method, it fails and says lost communication with device. Now the phone only vibrates 5 times when booting.
Thanks for sticking with me here, this has become very frustrating.
*Got it to boot, trying unrevoked again. NVM it restarted then vibrated 5 times. Now trying to get it to boot without the SDcard in.

Right now I am unable to the phone just keeps restarting after each boot. If i can get it to stop rebooting I will try to install clockwork recovery.
I am actually going to try an reinstall htc sync, reboot my comp, then rerun the RUU and hopefully that will stabilize the reboots.
