I recently rooted my Incredible and put the most recent stable version of Cyanogen mod on it. I've been trying to get my wireless tethering to work on my desktop PC but haven't been able too. I'm not sure what settings I am messing up and on which end.
I am currently running an intel PC with Windows 7 64-bit. I went into my device manager and enabled ad-hoc connections on my wireless adapter but still no luck.
Any ideas?
Android Version: 2.2
Kernel Version: 2.6.32-ga81a44f
Mod Version CyanogenMod-6.0.2
I use the wifi tether from here: code[dot]google[dot]com/p/android-wifi-tether/
It says it's for 2.1 but it works fine in 2.2. FWIW, I'm running stock 2.2 rooted with unrevoked3.
It also creates an infrastructure network rather than an ad-hoc network, so you can connect with more devices, such as other android phones.
Quick question: Is anyone else having trouble with the WiFi Tether for Root Users and/or the built-in hotspot on Cyanogenmod 6.1 RC4? I've wiped, reflashed, fixed permissions and nothing seems to make it work. I know I'm missing something that's obvious to everyone else. BTW, both work fine on the stock rom with root & bacon bits.
I gotta be doing something stupid. Can someone help?
Thanks!
you'll get a better/faster response if you ask in the CM rom's thread.
cm6.4 includes a custom version of wifi tether therefore it causes problems with the wifi for root
Use Barnacle.
its possible to have usb tether on this rom? i tried clockwork mod tether and more more other apps but nothing than errors when its trying to connect. I tried to look for answer, this is my last chance.
Hello all,
I'm planning to go back to 4.1.x (AOKP milestone 1) since the WiFi tethering on 4.2.x is broken.
I still have the AOKP flashable zips and gapps. Do I just simply copy the ROM and GAPPs to the root of my SDCARD (when mounted via USB on my PC) and start flashing away when in recovery mode?
I now the 4.2.x has a different file structure compared to thd 4.1.x so I'm hoping that the contents of the SDcard root (seen via the PC when connected to the USB) will not be deleted when I flash back to 4.1.x.
Is my understanding of flashing back to an older ROM correct?
Thanks.
WiFi tethering isnt broken on 4.2. Maybe it is on the ROM you are using but it has worked fine for me on CM 10.1 and Carbon ROM. But if you want to go back, I cant say for sure what will happen to your files since I have never downgraded. I assume your personal files on your "SD Card" will be safe and will be there after downgrading though.
I tried Bigxie's deoxed, tried Android Revolution HD 10.x, and Rootbox's 4.2.2 nightly including both official releases with the same result where WiFi tethering doesn't work. In my case, the client that is trying to connect will connect, IP is assigned but it won't be able to access the internet.
As of yesterday, I also tried Muzzy's ROM with the same result. I'm hearing that 4.2.2 changed how the tether flag is set, and gives the carrier more control over it.

Hmm. I'm not sure. I am on Verizon. I dont know if another carrier would cause problems with it.
Thanks for the repsonses JS. I'm still googling away to find out any more fixes. Worse comes to worse, I may just rever to 4.1.x.
I used bigxies deodexed until rasbean 4.2.2 was released and tether regularly with no issues on either. My N7 just works, for my laptop I have to set security to WPA2, on open or WPA it won't gain internet access. Have you tried that?

It's working just fine on me gnex. CM10.1
Thanks, I will look into rasbean 4.2.2.
I tried setting the WiFi tethering to open, WPA and WPA2 with the same results. It connects to my phone, but no internet connection.
I'm beginning to think this may have been set/limited by my carrier recently.

I was looking at that ROM too. Looks like I'll be busy tonight and will do some ROM flashing.
Thanks all.

I borrowed a friend's SIM card, installed it in my GN and enabled wifi tethering and it works. It looks like it has something to do wtih my current carrier.
My assumptiom that it worked on 4.1.x and stopped working on 4.2.x may have coincided with their wifi tethering policy changes.
Now I can stop looking for that special ROM. Case closed.
Anyone here using Official LS 4.4.4 by iiD4x?
I tried tethering with usb or wifi but it cant work properly.
If i tried using hotspot tethering for the first time, my laptop able to found the network and connected to it. But my laptop cant connected to the internet. I tried with usb tethering it doesnt work either.
I reboot my phone and try usb tethering it doesnt work at all. My laptop cant connected to the network. I disabled it and try hotspot, it occuring the same problem.
Anyone know how to fix this? Or anyworkaround? I've post logcat on LS thread. But no answer yet.
I'll post the logcat here later.
Thanks for your helps.
Edit:
Tethering problem is kernel fault.
Changing kernel to cm11 or chrono kernel will fix the tethering problem.
WiFi tethering also don't work on SlimKat if I'm right. If you want it to work then flash ParanoidAndroid or CandyKat or something else.
